Dreamweaver 8 access database connection

I have installed dreamweaver 8 on a local server running IIS
2
I am trying to connect to an access database also located on
the local sever
all connections appear to work and you can see the live data
that is in the database, but when I try to preview the page
or view from a diffrent machine. It displays a page not found
error
I think this may be related to the testing server, I am not
sure
I am running windows server 2003 and creating a .asp files
file and have configured the testing server as local
any ideas or is there a better way to sync my database to
dreamweaver
thanks

It's obviously your connection to your db. Have you created a
DSN (via
Control Panel) or a connection string?
If you've created a DSN, which I suspect, try editing your
connection from
the Database panel, and chosoe Use DNS on Testing Server. The
reason it may
not work on another machine is your connection uses a DSN,
but of course the
DSN hasn't been created on the other machine. This would be
the same for any
other machines.
You may prefer to use a connection string instead. Should
look something
like this (modify path and file name):
"Driver={Microsoft Access Driver
(*.mdb)};DBQ=C:\Folder\mydatabase.mdb"
Let me know if you need more on this,
Piers

  • Dreamweaver asp Database Connections

    Am using Dreamweaver 8 (and the Missing Manual book) to set up dynamic webpages using asp and a database.
    Have used IIS to get my server set up at localhost and have downloaded files including mdb from site associated with Missing Manual book. Am on pages 700-701 of book.
    Have selected Custom Connection String using the connection name connNationalEx. Then connection string:
    "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\DWDynamic\nationalEx.mdb"
    Have selected "Using driver on this machine"
    Response to "Test" is "Connection successfully made" which is great!
    After OK I get the following message:
    "C:\inetpub\wwwroot\nationalex_root\Connections\connNationalEx.asp contains an invalid path" which is not so great!
    Have tried changing and matching capitals and/or no capitals. Prob something simple but I can't see it.
    Am doing a website for local Scouts on a voluntary basis and due to child protection laws they have asked for a log in system. Am happy with Dreamweaver and CSS but I may have bitten off more than I can chew here with log-ins! Any help appreciated with above.

    Perhaps there's a remnant of an open database? When I used
    Access
    Database, it would create an LDI or some thing similar when
    it opens an
    mdb that could, on occasion, remain open even after being
    close?
    This probably isn't the case but perhaps it can give you a
    clue.
    You may also want to try moving it so that it's not where it
    was and
    then connect to it in it's new location.

  • ASP Development for Dreamweaver - Access Database

    I am following a tutorial on the adobe site for how to connect to an Access database using Dreamweaver CS5.  It states that I cannot connect to Access unless I have changed my settings to enable 32 bit applications.  I am unable to find this function using Windows 7.

    I have Windows 7 Ultimate here and I just followed the tutorial. Works OK.
    Which flavour of Windows 7 are you running?
    Can you get to the IIS Manager?
    Launch the Internet Information Services Manager by selecting Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
    From the tutorial
    Enabling connection to an Access database on 64-bit Windows
    The Microsoft Access Driver is not available in a 64-bit version, so you need to use the 32-bit driver.
    Launch the Internet Information Services Manager by selecting Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
    In the Connections panel, select Application Pools, and select DefaultAppPool in the center panel.
    In the Actions panel on the right, click the Advanced Settings link.
    In the General section, set Enable 32-Bit Applications to True (see Figure 13), and click OK.

  • Crystal Reports and Access database connection error

    I had this in a different forum with no hits, so I am trying this one.
    A person that I work with has multiple reports set up that pulls from an Access database that is password protected. When we moved everything over to a new computer, those reports now say that it cannot access the fields inside the database. It never pops up with a login screen either, like it does on the old computer. I played around with the ODBC, with no luck, couldn't get anything to work. I have also tryed relinking the database, but I keep getting connection problems. We are on a network, so her settings should have all moved with the new computer. Along with the database and the reports being on the server, so they were never moved. I am thinking it has something to do with a system file.
    I also found this document on this site, but cannot find the download it mentions, sounds similar to my problem.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/208b8fe5-681e-2b10-d2bb-b201f266d0ab
    Does anybody know how to fix this without the utility mentioned in the above link, or know where I can get the utility??
    We are using Access 2007 and Crystal Reports 7.  The database is not save as an Access 2007 database, but a regular mdb.
    Please Help!

    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Hello Chris,
    Crystal Reports does not store the database password with the RPT file.  This is by design (Crystal is not a database security product).  This is true of all versions of Crystal Reports.
    If your users need to see fresh data when opening the reports then they will have to log in by providing at least the password.
    You can send reports with Saved Data that won't try to hit the database, but the data won't refresh either.  To save data with the report go to the File menu and click next to Save Data with Report.  Refresh the report and then save it.  The report will now have saved data and won't try to hit the database when opened.  If the user hits the refresh button then they will get prompted to log into the database.
    I hope this helps.

  • JDeveloper 10g - ODBC (MS-Access) database connection

    Hi!
    I'm a new JDeveloper user.
    I can connect to an ODBC (Access) database and I can see tables in Oracle JDeveloper 9i. It's work fine.
    I can connect to an ODBC (Access) database but I CAN'T see tables in Oracle JDeveloper 10g(Connections Navigator-tables). It's NOT expanding table items. But when I enter an select sql command in SQL worksheet, it shows me datas in my tables. it's work. How can I resolve this problem?
    I've downloaded only JDeveloper 10g Preview zip file at www.oracle.com. Do I need download any program or application/driver ?
    Thanks...

    Note that JDeveloper 10g is only a preview release-- i.e. a beta. I'm sure that there are bugs in it at the moment which will be addressed in the final release.

  • Access database connection

    Hello:
    I noticed your response on the Adobe web site. I am working with Lifecycle and I am trying to connect to an access database.
    I step thru the setup and I get a Connection Successful message.
    When I open the form it finds the first record in the table but that is all I get.
    I want to be able to put in an employee number on the form and it will auto fill the employee information like First Name and Last Name.
    Just like a lookup does.
    Is there a way to get this done?
    Please help.
    Thank you

    Hi all
    The issue that Jenn was working on is exactly what I need too.
    I am looking for a solution that 1 single user changes a few criteria fields, using adobe pro,
    Once the criteria is set, download the appropriate data from a database (Acess or Sql)
    Then send the form to 1 user for completion,
    they will send it back to a user who will update the database.
    Jenn's issue sounds just like mine.
    Anyone know how this was resolved or suggestions as to where I should look for a solution?

  • EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error with MS ACCESS database connection

    Hello,
    I got the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error in the hs_err_pidXXXX.log file.
    I am using MS ACCESS and jdbc-odbc bridge to access to it.
    The problem is the tomcat server crashes every a couple of hours.
    The error log is attached.
    I searched this error on line and tried a couple of things that they suggested. But no helps.
    I tried increasing the heap size, and change the Java option to -Xint.
    But all no help.
    Would you take a look at the log file and suggest anythings?
    Thank you!!!

    There are some other solutions possible.
    1. Get another driver. The only one known is java only so it wont crash. But is not not free.
    2. Use a proxy driver. That means that another app actually does the database work. If it crashes you just start it again (which you can do in your main code.) That way it won't take down your server. There are commercial jdbc drivers that claim MS Access but are are really just proxy implementations as an option in this area.

  • DW Procedures to connect to MS ACCESS database located on remote server

    I am confused about the procedures within Dreamweaver CS3 to connect to a MS ACCESS database on a remoter server.
    I am working through a tutorial book, "Dreamweaver 8 with ASP, Cold Fusion and PHP Training from the Source", but the instructions are unclear concerning the procedures to connect to a MS ACCESS database located on a remote server.
    The book indicates that the server administration has to create the DSN for you and screen shots indicate that you will result in a list of DSNs to choose from when creating the connections .asp file.
    I went through the procedures to create a connections .asp and resulting in a connection without and tables (of course) because I do not initially have any connection information from my remote site.
    I have generated the required two lines of code as follows for my MS ACCESS database connection on my remote server:
    'Database connection info and provider
    strCon="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="&_
    Server.MapPath("database\trans.mdb") & ";" &_
    "User ID=xxx;Password=xxxxx"
    The question that I have is:
    How does this connection coding relate to the "connections/conn_newland.asp" file that was create within the Dreamweaver screens?  How do I merge the ASP coding?  The file (/connections/conn_newland.asp) generated within Dreamweaver is as follows:
    <%
    'FileName="Connection_odbc_conn_dsn.htm"
    'Type="ADO"
    'DesignationType="ADO"
    'HTTP="true"
    'Catelog=" "
    'Schema
    Dim MM_conn_newland_STRING
    MM_conn_newland_STRINT = "dsn=newland;"
    %>
    Any advice would be appreciated.  I know that this is simple but debugging an error from an  ASP coding merge would be a "bear" to debug!

    I have not used MS Access myself (fortunately) but I believe it works much like the old, old way of achieving a multi-user database in FileMaker.
    That is, it is not a true client-server database but more a peer-to-peer database and that each peer opens the same database file which is available to multiple user via file sharing. Therefore as elikness said it should just be a matter of putting the files on your Lion Server and then sharing that folder/volume using SMB sharing.
    However one thing to be aware of, since MS Access is not a true client-server database I would imagine it uses record locking to manage simultaneous direct access to records in the same files. File or Record locking is something that has historically been a bit flakey when using Windows clients with a Mac file server (and probably vice versa).
    While I am not proposing it as a solution to consider seriously, it is worth you knowing that FileMaker Pro is a database system that is available for both Mac and Windows and depending on how you configure things can be considered to stretch from a configuration very similar to MS Access at the low end all the way to a high-end MS SQL Server style setup at the top end. See http://www.filemaker.com for details.
    There is also a a third-party tool available for migrating databases to or from FileMaker Pro and it can convert MS Access databases to FileMaker Pro see http://www.fmpromigrator.com/
    You could use FileMaker Pro just on Windows machines if you wish.

  • Connecting Access Databases remotely?

    Currently:
    Currently I have a Java application which performs all I wanted and the limitation in it is "It only resides on the Local machine for which it needs to work". I have the Microsoft Access Databases located on a Remote Server and I install the Java app on the remote server to connect the databases using a connectionString "jdbc:odbc:DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=D:\DATA\DPPI\DATA\DPPI\DPPIPR01.mdb"; It connects to Access Databases and do all the bussiness logics with them.
    Enhancements (to be done):
    1. Making the application online - not a big issue.
    2. Connecting the databases remotely - its the only concern.
    So, if I make the Application Online the Access Databases need to be connecting through network (somewhat like ip or some web address).
    Problem:
    But after going through this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11388277/connect-to-access-database-remotely, it seems my requirement can not be completed.
    Is there any way if I'm able to upload the database to the online web hosting server and access the database from there only? If yes, then how should I do the connectivity since Access Database connects by giving the fully qualified name containing drive letter and all. But how should I proceed further so that I may be able to connect the mdb Databases remotely?
    ADO .Net Solution:
    After going through the link:
    http://webcheatsheet.com/ASP/access_connection_strings.php , it seems we can perform remote Access Database connectivity.
    The solution for the ADO is something like:
    connectionString="Provider=MS Remote; Remote Server=http://your_remote_server_ip;" &_ "Remote Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=c:\your_database_name.mdb"
    I'm a tad confused to how Access Database we can connect.
    EDIT
    There is one more question in my head.
    I'm making use of Type-1 Driver. By making use of Type-4 Driver like HXTT Access(http://www.hxtt.com/access.html), a commercial type 4 driver for MS Access, supports it. But is there any open source Type-4 Driver like this?

    Thanks for your responses guys. It seems I'm heading in a right direction (but can't completely say as I would also like to be concerned about the performance issues.)
    For the time being I would like to consider this approach until it is fully confirmed.
    Please let me know if I'm proceeding in a right way? (developed a webservice using Jax-ws testing application)
         1. I wrote a Jax-ws webservice published and tested on the localhost - its returning the response (tested using Soap-Ui).
              So, I would like to have the same application to be acting as a Server to be deployed on the Server housing the Microsoft Access Databases. It would connect the database and return the result to be consumed from Client.
         2. From the other end I opened the Soap-Ui such that I edited the Endpoint like: (this call would be actually made from the Online Application)
              Previous End point of the Wsdl- http://localhost:8080/myService/services/Invoker - tried and tested
              Edited End point of the Wsdl for testing - http://remoteIp:8080/myService/services/Invoker
              I got the Error stating:
                                            ERROR:org.apache.http.conn.HttpHostConnectException: Connection to http://192.168.1.6:8080 refused.
         Please let me know what I'm doing wrong or is there a special requirements for calling the services remotely?
    EDIT
    I took the IP address by executing ipconfig.

  • Design question for database connection in multithreaded socket-server

    Dear community,
    I am programming a multithreaded socket server. The server creates a new thread for each connection.
    The threads and several objects witch are instanced by each thread have to access database-connectivity. Therefore I implemented factory class which administer database connection in a pool. At this point I have a design question.
    How should I access the connections from the threads? There are two options:
    a) Should I implement in my server class a new method like "getDatabaseConnection" which calls the factory class and returns a pooled connection to the database? In this case each object has to know the server-object and have to call this method in order to get a database connection. That could become very complex as I have to safe a instance of the server object in each object ...
    b) Should I develop a static method in my factory class so that each thread could get a database connection by calling the static method of the factory?
    Thank you very much for your answer!
    Kind regards,
    Dak

    So your suggestion is to use a static method from a
    central class. But those static-methods are not realy
    object oriented, are they?There's only one static method, and that's getInstance
    If I use singleton pattern, I only create one
    instance of the database pooling class in order to
    cionfigure it (driver, access data to database and so
    on). The threads use than a static method of this
    class to get database connection?They use a static method to get the pool instance, getConnection is not static.

  • Lot of DataBase connections

    Hi,
    I am using OC4J as web container and Oracle 8i database on Sun solaris. I am using following scheme to access database connection.
    I have one Properties file that carries information about the driver,url,user and password
    I have one class RDBMServices. In constructor I reads that properties file. I have one getConnection method that setup connection Following is the code
    * Gets a database connection
    * @return a database Connection object
         public static Connection getConnection()
         Connection conn = null;
              try
                   Class.forName (sJdbcDriver);
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection (sJdbcUrl, sJdbcUser, sJdbcPassword);
              catch ( Exception e )
              System.out.println(e);
              return conn;
    I also have one method that is used to release connection.
    * Releases database connection
    * @param a database Connection object
         public static void releaseConnection (Connection con)
              try
    if (con != null)
              con.close();
              catch ( Exception e )
    Ok now in every JSP page where I need database access, I just create object of RDBMServices and execute queries on it. When I am done then I just call releaseConnectio() method to release that connection. So I am doing this in every JSP page. My problem is that I have lots of database connection open eventhoug I am releasing connection. For example I ran 50 users test and they Open 150 connection becasue every user goes through three pages. Please help me how I can get rid of this problem. THANKS
    Faizan

    This example demonstrates how to configure a JDBC source and how to make a
    JNDI lookup to access it. This example assumes you are using the scott database
    user and EMP table exists in SCOTT schema.
    1. Create an new entry in the $J2EE_HOME/config/data-sources.xml file as
    follows. Make appropriate changes to the connection information.
    <data-source
    class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
    name="OracleDS"
    location="jdbc/OracleDS"
    xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleXADS"
    ejb-location="jdbc/OracleDS"
    connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
    username="scott"
    password="tiger"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:ORCL"
    inactivity-timeout="30"
    />
    2. The following Servlet (GetDSUsingJNDI.java) demonstrates how to make a
    JNDI lookup to retrieve a JDBC data source named "jdbc/OracleDS".
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    import javax.sql.*;
    public class GetDSUsingJNDI extends HttpServlet {
    InitialContext context = null;
    DataSource jdbcURL = null;
    Connection conn = null;
    public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
    super.init(config);
    // Obtain connection using JNDI Lookup
    try {
    context = new InitialContext();
    jdbcURL = (DataSource) context.lookup("jdbc/OracleDS");
    catch(NamingException e)
    throw new ServletException("Error looking Data Source", e);
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
    throws ServletException, IOException {
    response.setContentType("text/html");
    PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter (response.getOutputStream());
    out.println("<html>");
    out.println("<head><title>Getting Data Source using JNDI Lookup</title></head>");
    out.println("<body><H1>Getting Data Source using JNDI Lookup</H1>");
    // Connect to the database
    try {
    Connection conn = jdbcURL.getConnection();
    out.println("Connected to database successfully ..");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT ename FROM emp");
    out.println("Results of the query");
    // Display Results of the SQL Query
    while ( rs.next() ) {
    out.println( "<br>" + rs.getString("ename") + "<br>");
    conn.close();
    catch(SQLException e)
    throw new ServletException("Error connecting to Database", e);
    out.println("</body></html>");
    out.close();
    3. Compile the servlet using javac.
    D:\j2ee\home>set CLASSPATH=D:\j2ee\home\orion.jar;D:\j2ee\home\jndi.jar;D:\j2ee\home\lib\classes12.jar
    D:\j2ee\home>javac GetDSUsingJNDI.java
    You have to include D:\j2ee\home\jndi.jar in the libraries for the project
    properties for the project in the Jdeveloper to compile this in Jdeveloper.
    4. Deploy the servlet on OC4J by copying the GetDSUsingJNDI.class to:
    <9iAS ORACLE_HOME>\j2ee\home\default-web-app\WEB-INF\classes
    5. Run your GetDSUsingJNDI Servlet and your servlet should be able to
    connect to the database successfully.
