Dreamweaver 8 and Windows 7

I got a grant and am studying Dreamweaver 8 at college, without realising it was so ancient!  I have a new Dell with Windows 7 at home and have read about  problems with using Dreamweaver 8. I want to get Dreamweaver to use at home, if I get a later version will I be able to figure it out?  I don't want to spend a lot of money, as it's only for personal use. Thanks, Katherine

if I get a later version will I be able to figure it out?
It would depend on your knowledge of HTML and CSS.  The more you know about those two, the easier DW will be.  Be aware that DW8 and DW11.5 (CS5.5) are quite different in many respects, all of which parallel the extraordinary changes that have occurred in the web since ~2006.
CSS is now the driving focus of DW as well as HTML.

  • Dreamweaver CC and Windows 8.1 - Can't Find A Valid Editor For This File Extension

Was running the latest version with no issues and then I loaded Office 2013 .. Now when I am in the remote site and try to double click on a .cfm file, I get a dialog box..Can't Find A Valid Editor For This File Extension..
I tried the support chat and they said Dreamweaver support was not available, try again later???
So I thought I would reinstall the CC version and now I can see the Dreamweaver icon next to the files but still ... can't open the file..
    Any assistance would be appreciated?
    Leo

The issue is only in Windows 8.x where when Dreamweaver CC is installed, it is not able to turn on the file type associations by default.  The workaround for now is to manually add the extensions both within Windows and then within Dreamweaver CC itself.
Go to Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set Your Default Programs and select Dreamweaver CC and then select 'Choose defaults for this program' and Select All or the extensions you want to open in Dreamweaver CC
Start Dreamweaver CC and go to Edit > Preferences > File Types/Editors and add '.cfm .cfc' to the extensions and then add C:\Program Files (x86)\Dreamweaver CC\Dreamweaver.exe then click on Apply and Close
    That should be it.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 and Windows 8 Issues

I have Dreamwever CS3 and Windows 8 and I keep getting errors that can only be resolved by closing down DW and losing the work I have processed so far. I happens mostly when I use extentions such as Webassaist Data Bridge. I have visited their forum but they advised me to checkout you trouble shooting service.
    Please advise

    Hi,
If Dreamweaver is working fine without the extensions, I am not sure if we should be troubleshooting Dreamweaver. Just to be sure, Windows 8 is not a supported version for Dreamweaver CS3. It could possibly work, but wouldn't have been tested on Windows 8 as Adobe supports only the previous two versions of any software.
This is my best answer. You could wait for other experts for their opinion.
    Thanks,

  • Dreamweaver 8 and windows 7 problem

    can anyone help please.
I recently transfered Dreamweaver 8 onto a new pc (windows 7) and find that the program keeps crashing on start up.
I've tried running the various DW compatibility options but with no success.
If anyone has experienced this problem or knows a solution I would love to hear from them.
    Thank you

If your crash message start with "1. Failed to install IS Kernel file" then
    you can do following:
Go to the "Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8" folder.
    Double Click Dreamweaver.exe.
If your porgram now starts correctly, make a link to the Desktop.
If you wish you can copy the link to the All Programs menu too.

  • Dreamweaver 3 and Windows 7

Yep, sorry folks - I still have a copy of Dreamweaver 3, which after all these years still does a good job for me.
    But.....
Will it work on Windows 7?
Looking at a new PC, but the last thing I want to do is to find out it does not work and have to find more cash for the latest versions of Dreamweaver.
    Thanks in advance
    Mark

Yes. Adobe has a "no more than 3 versions back" policy for upgrade eligibility.
MX 2004 is the earliest version from which you can upgrade to CS4.

Unfortunately you'll have to pay full price to get CS4.

  • Dreamweaver 8 and Windows 7 64 bit no Server Debug

I have DW8 up and running but I can't get the Server Debug to work for Coldfusion.
Has anyone been able to get this working?

I have not run the older version of DW with Windows 7, but if the feature is not working it is a possibility that it is due to the out-of-date Dreamweaver.  Adobe's policy only allows users to upgrade from the previous 3 versions.  So for you Dreamweaver CS5 is the last chance you have to upgrade.  Once CS6 goes on sale, you will be forced to pay the full retail cost for the application again.  If you are having problems I would recommend downloading the demo of CS5 and see if it is working.  Different versions can be installed side-by-side.  The only restriction is that you cannot run the old and new versions at the same time.  If the problem is fixed, it is likely an incompatibility and upgrading is the only solution.  If the problem is not fixed, please repost.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 and Windows 7

We were just upgraded to Windows 7 from XP at work and althought my CS3 suite is not showing any signs of problems, Dreamweaver has this bug where when I am browins for a site folder using the Edia Sites dialog box, the settings don't save any folders deeper than one level, so for example, if I am locating the testing server location for a site, and that location is X:\devsites\sites\site4 and during the session I dorows to that location and open that site4 folder and click ok to select it, DW CS3 only takes the devcites folder top level as the desired folder. I have to manually type the path in the testing server folder field in order for DW CS3 to accept the location. Is there any support currently provided for bugs of CS3 since CS4 is already out?

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and Windows 7 Compatibility

When using CS4 (Dreamweaver and Fireworks) the "Properties" panel does not display correctly when running in Windows 7. The bottom half of panel is out of site no matter screen resolution and the input boxes "Title" etc are cutoff vertically.
Is this a compatibility issue, and if so, does anyone know of a work around?
    Thanks for any help--Patrick

    Try
CS4 Property inspector fields truncated (Windows)
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2032992
    Workaround
***Goto Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Display
***Select on the left "Set custom text size (DPI)"
**Set whatever scale percentage you want (DPI)
***Uncheck "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling"
    Click "OK"
When you load up Dreamweaver you should see the whole Properties pane.
In the case that you don't after changing that setting restart your computer and try again.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and Windows 8

I have recently purchased a new laptop running Windows 8.  I am a private individual who runs three websites using Dreamweaver CS4, one for a school and two a non-profit organisation..  The local view shows every file on my drive instead of only the files in the in the folders belonging to each website.
    Is this a compatability issue?
    Can anyone offer assistance?

When you set up the Local Root folder, make sure DW is putting the right path in. I know there is a glitch in DWCS4 that would put basically "on directory up" as the folder even if you browsed to the right place and hit OK. (up until a couple weeks ago, I was still using DWCS4 and fought this issue every time I made a new site)
Go into your broken site definition using Site > Manage Sites > Edit
    Click the Advanced Tab
Look at the Local Root Folder text box. This is where DWCS4 likes goofing up. If your site's root folder was supposed to be C:\Users\yourname\Desktop\Folder1 it will likely show C:\Users\yourname\Desktop instead. You should be able to change that manually by adding in the correct folder name at the end.
Otherwise, the way to fix it when you're making a new site is to browse to the correct location twice when adding the local root folder during the Site Definition process. It will usually pick up the correct location on the second attempt.

How do I tile the Dreamweaver panels and document windows to tile instead of being superimposed?

I'm not sure what may be causing your issue on the right side of the screen, other than possibly your application frame is wider than your screen size so you aren't able to drag the window tab far enough to get the highlighting effect. Make sure your application frame is maximized to your screen by hitting the middle button in the top right of the window so it changes to the double square icon. That way, you'll know whether the edge is off screen or not.
Only certain windows can be brought to the top or bottom since those are reserved for toolbars and the Properties Inspector respectively.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 in Vista 64 and Windows 7

I am running Dreamweaver CS3 on Vista 64 and Windows 7 Pro for about 2 months now.
When I go to set up a new Site Definition and select a Local root folder, I find I have to go down an extra directory in order to get Dreamweaver to select the directory I want as root. (example: have to select the image directory).
Windows 7 is out officially now, I wonder if this problem has been fix in CS4, and how CS4 preforms on Windows 7.
I have been hodling off upgrading to CS4 for a year now, since Adobe has not make any statements about Windows 7 support.  If adobe has release some statements, can someone point me to the statement?
What is the possible release schedule for CS5, I am thinking May 2010?

That's as good as anyone else's guess.
    CS: Sep 2003
    CS2: April 2005 (19 months)
    CS3: April 2007 (24 months)
    CS4: Oct 2008 (19 months)
CS5:  May 2010 would be 19 months - but only Adobe knows the real date.

  • Need details on how to move existing website to Dreamweaver CS6 and to Business Catalyst web hosting

    Hi All,
I need assistance with transferring an existing website  - imagessays.com  -  (designed with Dreamweaver CS4) to my Creative Cloud CS6 account - and to web hosting by CS6 Business Catalyst.
…  step-by-step instructions would be most useful.  I've got the Dreamweaver CS6 onDemand book, etc.,  ...  I guess I’m just not enough of a geek to work my way through the steps and to get my site back moving ahead online.
Beyond that, need advice as to how to repair a couple of non-funcitonal links on the site (check out imagessays.com to see a couple of pics that don't work).  I'm looking forward to uploading more content and to do major upgrade to the site, but am unable to do so ... need technical support re how to do these simple (should be) things.
Since setting up the website over 5 years ago, I have migrated from Dreamweaver CS3 to CS4 .... and now to CS6 ...  and from a Dell XPS 450 running Windows XP to a Mac Pro desktop running Mac OS X.
These changes of version / machine / OS  have separated me from the ability to do the one simple thing that I need to do with this straightforward website, that is:  upload new pitchers and writins .
I look forward to assistance and support for this.
    Thanks,
    Jim
