Dreamweaver 8 Behaviors for pop-up menu

I am a novice user of Dreamweaver 8. I created a site using
pop-up Behaviors for a dropdown navigation bar. I've read about a
lot of problems others are having, but part of my problem I have
not been able to locate anywhere.
After I created my template and want to save changes to the
template and update the files based on this template, I go thru a
series of JavaScript errors. It never updates any files in the end
and sometimes shuts down the program. An example of ONE of the
error messages is:
At line 1654 of file "C:\Program Files\Macromedia/Dreamweaver
8\Configuration\Behaviors\Actions\Show Pop-up Menu.js": The
function saveDocument() is currently unavailable.
The more pages attached, the more error messages I get....
all are .js errors.
The other problem is the links from the pop-up. I've double
checked them in the behavior pop-up menu... they appear to be
correct and sometimes work, but not all the time.
Everything I read says that I should create the navigation
with pop-ups (drop down menus) in Fireworks. Is Dreamweaver that
unreliable that this can't be done within itself?
If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong to receive these
errors and how to correct my links so they are reliable, I would
very much appreciate it. I have recreated this site 6 times and the
errors are consistent.
Thanks, cjbyrnes

You read about all these problems, yet you pressed ahead and
used them? Why?
DW's Pop-up menus are incompatible with DW's templates.
Embarrassingly sad,
but true.
Did you read about and investigate any of the many
alternatives posted?

  • Translucent background for Pop-up menu

I am looking for assistance for a translucent background on a
pop-up menu I am doing in FW-MX2004. I am trying to do tech note
tn_15526 and on step16. Would we select all the files at once or do
them individually and do Reverse all Frames to all of them at once?
I also wanted to see if anyone actually did this tech note
and got it to work, or is there a tutorial to do similar. Thanks
    for any help.

The red squares are showing you that there are buttons that are overlapping. With the Marquee Tool (m) on Photoshop just select the part you want for the button from your background and then right click & select Layer via Cut and then put the new layer you made into the folder that belongs to that button. You can put a background on any pop-up menu but you have to cut it into pieces and put them in the folders of the buttons, and also make sure that they are not overlapping.
Here are some pictures I did for my pop-up menu (it has 8 pages with around 9 buttons each page & with each button with a background):
Also here is a link of a blu-ray I did with this pop-up menu: http://youtu.be/pEjKmIYM_8I

  • Behaviors Pop Up Menu

I have been using adding the behavior 'Show Pop Up Menu' to create a drop down list for my link menu. I add all the page links and upload. It works fine on the website. However if I try to change anything the next time I open the page in dreamweaver it has lost all the links.
In the events box I have still got On mouse out - hide menu etc but when I double click on On mouse over - show pop up menu all the links and text have dissapeared in the Contents section of the wizard part.
Can anyone help me with where I am going wrong. As everytime I want to make a change I have to re add all the pages and all the links.
    Thanks in advance
    Rachel

Thank you, I am using Dreamweaver MX.
I am a novice and have sort of understood that link you gave me! Basically does it mean that the show pop up menu behaviour is rubbish and there is no solution to my problem!?!

  • Pop-Up Menu for whole column

    Hello iWork Eperts,
I understand that there is an easy way to select certain cells and Format them for POP-UP menu. But when a new row is added then I have to do the formatting again for the cell. Is there any way to do this POP-UP menu formatting for whole column so that when a new row is added then the cell in that column is automatically formatted for POP-UP formatting.
    Regards
    Kartik Mittal

    Hi Kartik,
    Here's a step by step:
Start by formatting a single cell (B2 in this case) as a popup menu cell Edit the items to your preferences (I've left them at the default 1, 2 and 3).
    Copy that cell.
Click on the Column Reference tab ( B ) to select the whole column.
Command-click on B1 to remove it from the selection.
Paste (to fill the popup, and its current selection, into all cells in the existing column).
    Result:
You've now set up the necessary condition for the format (and currently selected value) to replicate as you drag te Row control tab downward to add more rows to the table.
If ALL cells above the one where rows are to be added contain the same popup menu (or the same formula), then that menu/formula wil be filled in to new rows as they are added.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Pop-Up Menu Issues

    I am using CS3 Fireworks and CS3 Dreamweaver to edit a pop-up
menu originally made in Fireworks. I have not altered the pop-up
menu code whatsoever, and when I preview the index file that the
pop-up menu is in from Dreamweaver, the menu appears to run just
fine. There are no numbers within any of the file names or menu
items. For some reason, once the index file is loaded onto my
server, certain menu items do not show up and the ones that do are
out of order. There are multiple pop up menu's within the index
file, but those two are single tiered and work fine. The pop-up
menu in question has 2 sub-groups. Could this be the
    problem?

    pixlor:
OP is using CS3 and the menu blog is talking about the menus
    in earlier
versions of FW, so *most* of the points made in the blog
    don't apply.
That's not to say that using CS3 pop-up menus is a *good*
    thing....

  • Pop-up menu in fireworks8?

    Hello everyone:
I have few questions regarding modify layers and exporting
    file from Fireworks8 (FW8) to Dreamwaver8 (DW8)
    a) I crated a single menu item with a sub pop-up menu. I
crated menue item with hostspot method. Once hotsopt added, There
is another blue behavor layer inide hotsport layer. I can drag this
inner layer by using pointer tool.
I noticed on over state, the background color won't cover
whole gray area of orginal background. Is there a way I can modify
the size of inner blue behavor layer so over state background can
    cover whole area?
    sample pop-up menu
    b) I used rectangle tool drawed the menu item, once hotsopt
is added, is there a way I can modify the size of menu item?
    c) Are there any online documentation describe how to export
file from FW 8 to DW?
    d) Please share with me if you know good online tutorials
that demonstrate how to created customized pop-up menu in FW8.
    e) how can I change file name extension before export the
    file into DW.
For example change file extension to
    .htm to .html
e1. where can I find the .htm file and .css file associate
with my pop-up menu. I couldn't file them once I crated my .png
    file for pop-up menu

  • Pop up menu speed.

Is there any way to speed up the sub menu views? i.e. click on Settings on a channel strip....wait...wait....is it coming ....will it open...did I click it? Same with right clicking on a track header on the arrange page. It's not a huge deal but is becoming a little annoying.

On G5 is normal to wait for pop-up menu.. expecially if you adding many folder.
on my personal experienxe there is some of the follow action that totally solved .. or better should reduce a lot of waiting time!
    1) Repair Permission (run crons periodically by using some 3rd party mantaince utility)
    2) switch off Network File and other sharing option
    3) use a fast Hard Drive (Raid striped if possible) and system drive free space arround 25%
    4) Disable spothligth
    5) disable Journaling...
attention please about the 4 and 5 point
I suggest to enable those points after finish to work with Logic...
because Spotligth and Journaling are very important for securuty and safety of your files.
Those of points work on My G5...
Sometime Just repair permission and restart your mac may be sufficient
    Good Luck

  • What happened to 'Show Pop-Up Menu' in Dreamweaver CS6?

I've been using Dreamweaver for several years now and through several different versions. In Dreamweaver 8, under Behaviors, I had 'Show Pop-Up Menu' as a way to create attractive menus. Now in CS6, it is gone. Is there a way to get it back or at least an alternate way of adding pop-up menus?

The menus that were part of the older version of DW using javascript have been deprecated.  In addition, the CS6 Spry feature has also been deprecated.  As a result you are left with a few options.
Option 1 - Get an addon from the exchange (Adobe Add-ons ) or from third party sources like PVII ( Projectseven.com - Products ).
Option 2 - Consider a framework or CMS that comes with a drop down menu code or UI admin option to maintain the menu.
Given that you still have a menu on your website, for the time being, you should be able to edit the code to maintain the menu, but moving forward I would definitely seek out an alternative solution.

  • Troubleshooting pop-up menu in Dreamweaver 8

    Hello,
    I'm using Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.
    1. Created a pop-menu woith 6 items all linking to 6 different anchors in a different page.
    2. The first 5 items work fine - they link up to the 5 anchors in the destination page.
    3. The 6th item when clicked simply closes the pop-menu and does not link to the anchor in the destination page.
(Completely checked the anchor name and also tested that anchor by linking from a different page).
Please reply asap. Please see HTML Code below:

  • The spry pop-up menu I built in Adobe Dreamweaver worked fine in my old Firefox, I updated Firefox today and the menu no longer works--despite disabling the pop-up blocker in Firefox preferences...what's the problem??? I need the menu to work!!!

I built a new pop-up menu for my website using Spry in Adobe Dreamweaver. Because of some differences in .HTML and .XHTML
it took me days to get it right. I tested every variation in Firefox until it worked perfectly. Today, I installed the newest version of Firefox and now the pop-up no longer works. I changed the preferences in Firefox to disable to pop-up blocker and it STILL DOESN'T WORK...although an older style of pop-up menu (menu machine) which is no longer supported by Adobe, DOES WORK.
    HELP!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT.

    pixlor:
OP is using CS3 and the menu blog is talking about the menus
    in earlier
versions of FW, so *most* of the points made in the blog
    don't apply.
That's not to say that using CS3 pop-up menus is a *good*
    thing....

  • Pop-up menue created by Fireworks 8 does not work well in Dreamweaver 8

    Hi there,
I have experienced some strange behaviour of Dreamweaver 8
with respect to am enuebar with pop-up-Menue-HTML created by
Fireworks 8. Having designed the pop-up menue in Fireworks 8 all
works fine if you view it through Firewoks. After having exported
the XHTML-Code for Dreamweaver in a file all continues to work fine
if you view it with IE 7.
When imported to Dreamweaver as Fireworks-HTML blue boxes
were shown around the bar and the pop-menue appears with blue boxes
around. Viewing this stuff by pressing F12 in Dreamweaver shows up
the page in the browser with the menue bar and all the submenues (I
cant stand it anymore). I tried a lot of things but I failed. Help
    would be appreciated very much.

Have a read of this article - may convince you why it's not a
    good idea to
    use these menus:

  • Pointless change to Safari 6.1 pop-up menu for links

Can somebody please put the adults back in charge of OS development at Apple? This morning I was prompted to install the latest OS update, which includes a new version of Safari (6.1). Almost immediately I noticed this change to the order of items in the pop-up menu when you right-click a link: the position of the first two items is switched. That may seem like a trivial change, but if you're accustomed to opening different types of links in new tabs or new windows, then you've established a bit of muscle memory in your mouse hand, which is now thrown off by the change: you'll instinctively choose the wrong item. One of the basic principles of software usability is that you leverage the learned behaviors of your users, you don't turn them into obstacles.

It seems somebody at Apple strongly believes the UI must be tabbed for all things you do. I feel we're told "don't use windows if you can use tabs". Well, I won't be using tabs (neither in Safari, nor Finder, nor nothing), because they waste a precious line of display space.
Too much silly things done in OSX since Lion. As the OP said, please put adults back in charge of OS development. Thanks.
Big thanks also to MacOsX for sharing his (working) solution for this Safari bug (yes, it's a bug)

  • Help with transparent background for the pop up menu!

    Hello everyone,
I am working on a Web site which has a pop up menu created in Dreamweaver 8. The pop up is over a picture and I'm thinking about to make its background transparent. I'm not really a programmer to be able to do it manually but I'm familiar with JS. Would anybody be able to help me with this? I truly appreciate it.
I could find the code but don't know where to place it! The JS file is about 700 lines!!! I'm so confused...Below is the source file for the JS that you could download...
