Dreamweaver 8 Extended Find

I have been a big user of Homesite and am trying to migrate
over to Dreamweaver 8.
I am having troubles with the 'Find" of Dreamweaver 8.
Homesite made it easy to search a folder and subfolders, but I
cannot get that to work with DW8. I specify a folder to search in
but it does not find text which I know is in the files.
any idea of what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks for any and all help/comments/suggestions.
Russ

I don't know how you are doing the search. Can you give us a
step-by-step
rendition?

  • Extended Finder Information

I have a large number of video files stored and I'd like to be able to view (and sort) a list of them in Finder, or similar, showing not just date & size etc but also some of the extended info, particularly video dimensions e.g. 1280x720 and audio channels e.g. 2.
I can see this information on an individual file basis from the Get Info pane, but with over 1,500 files that isn't practical and doesn't allow me to sort.
Is this possible in Finder, or is there a separate tool / package I could use?
    Thanks in anticipation.

Not doable with Finder. As for other apps, you might inquire at the AppleScript forum under OS X Technologies.

  • Dreamweaver cannot find server for Module insert

I am getting this error when trying to insert a BC module in Dreamweaver :
"The page "http://plotters.businesscatalyst.com/Utilities/ModuleManager.aspx?ModuleName=module_catalo guelistdump&App=dw&Language=en_US&ContainerId=0" was not loaded because Dreamweaver could not find the server "plotters.businesscatalyst.com". Please make sure you are connected to the internet and the server name is correct."
Everything else seems to be working properly. I can connect to the server, manage the site, upload, download. However the BC integration does not seem to be working.
The site is designated as a Business Catalyst site within Dreamweaver. Is it possibly an error with my username or servername?
    Thanks!

    Hi Nate,
If you are still having troubles and confirm everything else is working via DW/BC I recommend reaching our direct chat support so they can test your accont on their end to attempt to replicate the issue.

  • Dreamweaver Cannot Find Files

This weekend, I went to make a routine edit on one of my DW sites, and it said that no location had been defined for the files. I went into Manage Site and browsed for the source files, and DW worked just fine - for about eight seconds. Then, it wouldn't open any files - when I tried to get or put them, DW gave me the same error, that it could not find a defined location for files. I repeated the process, and DW worked for a few seconds before doing the whole thing over again.
I quickly found that this was the case for ALL of my websites, and I am unable to edit any of them.
I'm running CS3 on an iMac.
    Thank you!

I searched for a solution for this and the closest thing I found is an XP related post regarding Dreamweaver MX or MX2004.  Either way, what everything seemed to point to for that Windows user was a permissions issue that DW was having problems saving the file, thus it couldn't save the defined site information.  Have you installed any new software recently?  What version of DW is this?  What version of OS X?  Can you try repairing permissions as a starting point to see if this other post had any merit?

  • CS4 Dreamweaver Question: "Find all" has stopped working.

Dreamweaver will no longer perform a search using the "Find All" option. Nor will it place results in the Search panel.
Can you help in answering the question of how to make it work again?
    Dreamweaver will . . .
Find Next within the current document.
Find Next within a specified folder.  And, with repeated mouse clicks will find each instance within the defined set of pages.
    It will NOT . . .
Find All within the current document.
Find All within the defined set of pages (e.g. folder, site, etc.)
The Search Panel at the bottom of the page will appear when the Find All search starts, but nothing populates in it.
Your help in answering this question is most appreciated.

It worked a couple of times, but no longer. Any other thoughts?
If you have experienced it several times and using latest updates for CS4 this means there must be more going on.
Do you check and repair your disk permissions for OSX on a regular base and do you have also latest updates for OSX (software update) running regularly?
There are two other options, purge cache for folder (or delete the entire cache file to the trash and start again caching). In the Bridge prefs is a setting to also purge global cache. (Per CS4 it seems save to use this setting, earlier version could bring you in trouble as Tai Lao often has stated)
You will find the cache file in the user library caches folder and it can grow to huge proportions.
In the same library in the preferences is also a  Bridge plist file that can be deleted.
Both Cache and plist file will refresh itself with a default empty file as after first install once you restarted Bridge.

  • Dreamweaver: cannot find CSS Designer

I need some help. I am trying to find the tab or panel that allows me to use the CSS Designer. I try to follow the videos that Adobe posts on learning how to use Dreamweaver, but it doesn't help a lot cause i can never find any of the buttons the videos are using. Espcially now, I cannot find the tool to allow to edit using CSS. I need some help here.

Go to Window > CSS Designer or hit Shift + F11 to open the CSS Designer.
If those don't bring it up, you're likely using a version that is older than the addition of the CSS Designer (DWCS6 or earlier).
Go to Help > About Dreamweaver to check your version.
If you do have CC or later and only get the old CSS Panel when you go to that menu or hit the shortcut, it would mean you need to hit Ctrl + Alt + Shift + P to switch the CSS Panel to the Designer.

  • Extend finder bar over two monitors

is there any way to extend the finder bar (the bar at the top with FILE EDIT, time, etc, not sure what to call it) across two monitors? so that the apple and FILE EDIT, etc. controls are on the left monitor and it extends to the right monitor where the time, airport, display, sound, etc. controls are.
I'm pretty sure you can't do this in MAC OS X, so i guess i'm asking if there is any software that can do this.
    Thanks!

I have not heard of anything like that. There are some contextual menu (right-click menu) and desktop customization tools out there, I think.
You can move the menu bar (and Dock) from one monitor to the other and change the relative position of the multiple monitors, just drag them around in the System Preferences Layout or Position view. The white menu bar can be dragged from one monitor to the other.
I always have my Dock on the bottom, and it stays on the monitor with the Menu Bar, not sure what happens when you put it on the right or left sides and you have two monitors.

  • Extended Find/Extended Replace Not Catching Line Breaks

I need to do a massive find and replace to change a block of
code that's in hundreds of files.
I attempted to use Extended Replace like so:
    Find what:
    old code line 1
    old code line 2
    etc.
    Replace with:
    new code line 1
    new code line 2
    etc.
I picked the right folder, all the boxes on the right are
unchecked, and I copied the old code directly from one of the files
it was in. So why isn't it finding the code block? It only seems
able to detect one line at a time, but what's the point of having a
massive find and replace that only works one line at a time?

I remember running into this kind of trouble. It had to do
with encoding. What if you simply perform an extended search ?
My guess is that the string you are searching does not have
the same encoding as the files you are searching (a bit like
searching "line1 & vbcrlf" while files only contain "line1
    & vblf".
I suggest the search string is copied from a file, or even
better, you select the string you want to search for then simply
click the search/replace button : the search field will already be
populated. Can you at least find the search string in the file it
    comes from ?

  • Help! asp - Dreamweaver cannot find an editor for this type of extension!

    Hi Guys
I'm using CC 2014. I'm running a couple of websites where I made the contact pages using a .asp extension. I need to urgently modify some of these contact pages but I get this error saying Dreamweaver cannot open the asp pages. Can anyone help or advise me on what to do please?
Found the answer that works to open the page in this thread: Can Not Open ASPX Files In Dreamweaver CC ? However I cannot save any files as ASP as that extension seems to have disappeared. How do I save asp contact pages in future?

Sure you can, rather than saving the file with the default .html, replace the .html with .asp.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 "Find and Replace" not working

Since I've started working in DW CS6 I've noticed that the Find and Replace feature isn't working completely.
E.g. If I select a block of code, then open Find and Replace, tell it to find "<br />" and replace it with "</li>" it only replaces the first instance. The rest of the <br />'s are still <br />'s.
Is this happening to anyone else? I may have to switch back to CS5.

    ** ANSWER/Workaround
Change the selection in the 'Search:' dropdown from the default 'Source:'  to 'Text' or 'Text (Advanced)' and you will get the desired result.
bracdiver, your post may be useful in some examples, like the ones I posted above. However, this does not work in my intended example below (which is source code specific), where the actual source code needs to be replaced:
    Sample
<p>These are true or false questions. Place your answer on the blank under each question.</p>
    <ol>
        <li>There are twelve in a baker's dozen</li>
<li>35% of people are going to school.</li>
<li>There are seven books in the Harry Potter series.</li>
<li>The longest running play is "Les Miserables"</li>
<li>There is no blank under this question. <i>Answer beside this question instead.</i></li>
    </ol>
    Using these options
Find in: Selected Text (first four list items)
    Search: Source code:
    Find: </li>
    Replace: <br />___________________</li>
    Options enabled: Match case
    Desired output:
<p>These are true or false questions. Place your answer on the blank under each question.</p>
    <ol>
        <li>There are twelve in a baker's dozen<br />___________________</li>
<li>35% of people are going to school.<br />___________________</li>
<li>There are seven books in the Harry Potter series.<br />___________________</li>
<li>The longest running play is "Les Miserables"<br />___________________</li>
<li>There is no blank under this question. <i>Answer beside this question instead.</i></li>
    </ol>
    CS6 DW output:
<p>These are true or false questions. Place your answer on the blank under each question.</p>
    <ol>
        <li>There are twelve in a baker's dozen<br />___________________</li>
<li>35% of people are going to school.</li>
<li>There are seven books in the Harry Potter series.</li>
<li>The longest running play is "Les Miserables"</li>
<li>There is no blank under this question. <i>Answer beside this question instead.</i></li>
    </ol>
Using your workaround (with 'Inside Tag' option set to li), this will not work as does not change any text at all.

  • Dreamweaver cannot find, and thus apply, templates after uploading the website to server

    Hi,
I am using Dreamweaver 8, and my problem is like this:
When the site was first built using Dreamweaver, I created a template, after which I was able to apply it to other existing/new pages by [Modify/Templates/Applying Templates to Page].
However, after uploading all te files to the server, and then downloading them back to my computer, when I tried to apply a template to an existing/new page by [Modify/Templates/Applying templates to Page], Dreamweaver showed that there is "no template" in the entire site - despite the fact that the folder containing the .dwt file was successfully downloaded from the server.
Also worth mentioning is that, for the pages that are already attached to the template before I sent the files to the server, they are working just fine even after I have uploaded them.
I saved the files in the following manner:
    >ROOT FOLDER
    >>>TEMPLATE FOLDER
    >>>>>>template.dwt
    >>>indext.html
    >>>OTHER PAGES FOLDER
    >>>>>>page1.html
    >>>>>>page2.html
I also tried to save the template.dwt directly under "ROOT FOLDER", but that didn't work neither.
Is somebody else facing the same problem? Or does anyone know how to solve this issue? It would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Your Files panel (F8) should look like this:
    site - YourSiteName (C:\YourSiteName)
         index.html
         -OtherPages
              page1.html
              page2.html
         -Templates
              template.dwt
If your .dwt file is located in any location other than the Templates folder, it won't work.
Templates are not a server-side technology.  Templates only work on local files in Dreamweaver.
I suggest you open your template and examine the code to ensure it is valid and that the Editable Regions are properly defined.
    http://validator.w3.org/
Then open a child page made from that template to ensure it is pointing to the correct Template.dwt file in your Templates folder.

  • Dreamweaver not finding CF8 help

I have DW CS3, then installed the latest CF 8 update. When I
go to the Reference tab I can clearly see the Adobe CFML Reference,
and I know it has the latest tags in it. However, when I'm coding
and hit Shift+F1 on any of the newer CF8 tags like CFFEED the help
results show "The topic was not found in any of the reference
    materials currently installed."
    What's up with that?
When select the "Adobe CFML Reference" from the book
drop-down and "CFFEED" from the CFML drop-down the help is right
    there.
This actually happens for the majority of tags I want to get
help with. Is this a bug, or do I need to make a config change
somewhere? This is crippling my efficiency. Thanks for any tips or
    advice.

Can anybody at least replicate this problem?

  • Dreamweaver Can No Longer Find Template

I have an intranet that I put together in Dreamweaver using
templates. Originally, all the links between the pages were
document-relative, and the site was defined as just the basic
folder containing all the intranet pages and related documents. It
was easy to make new pages ; just open a new document using the
    template I'd created.
A co-worker suggested I make a few modifications to the
site--namely, make the links root-relative, and redefine the site
based our office intranet test server (our "Q: drive"), instead of
simply using the folder itself, which is buried several layers deep
on the Q: drive. After redefining the site, however, I can no
longer get Dreamweaver to acknowledge or find my template. The
intranet site as a whole still works, and it still uses the
template, but when creating a new document, I can't get dreamweaver
to find my template so that I might apply it to a new document.
Does Dreamweaver by default look in a specific location for a
Template folder? Can I designate where I'd like it to look for it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Michael

The function of Templates in DW is ONLY to modify local
    files. The
structure of your remote site has no bearing on whether
    templates function
    locally. Or am I misunderstanding?
To function properly locally, the Templates folder MUST be
    located in the
root of the local site. Is that still the case?

  • Find text Between tags with a Regular Expression

I am trying to find specif text -- table names - within a
<cfquery> tag in all my cfm files. I am using an extend find
function in Homesite (I think Dreamweaver has the same
    functionality). This expression works:
    <[Cc][fF][qQ][uU][eE][rR][Yy]
    [^>]*>[^>]*(EventName|AttendeeName)[^>]*</[Cc][fF][qQ][uU][eE][rR][Yy]>
for find the text EventName or AttendeeName. However, if
there are other cf tags like <cfif> within the
<cfquery>, then the tag/text is not found.
Can anyone help? It is a useful expression to have if you are
trying to transfer applications developed on a windows machine to
a, say, linux machine, and have table name sensititvity issues with
    mySql.

Oops: sorry. Stick a question mark after the asterisks to
    stop the matches
    being greedy.
    Used this:

Can't help you there. Sounds like HS's regex processor is
    bung: there's
nothing non-standard or tricky about that regex (which might
    cause
compatibility issues; JS vs PERL vs Java, etc).
HS on the whole is bung (IMO). Have you considered using a
    text editor
    that is... err... *current*? ;-)
No, can you suggest one. Just use HS for years and it does
    most of what I want.
What sort of errors is it giving?
Regular expression error No 17. Bad expression format or
    internal error.
