Dreamweaver 8 issue.

I have Dreamweaver 8 running on Windows Vista (yes its an old version of DW). The interface / menus in DW look fine but when I open any html file the font/code is faint and blurry. I thought it might be a corrupted font issue but all other programs on my PC work / look fine. Anyone know how to fix? I did try to re-install it.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but since you mentioned a
cross-grade I
have a question. I will be making the move from being PC
based to MAC based
in the next 6 months. Since I will be replacing my aging dell
laptop with
an imac pro, my next desktop purchase will be mac as well
With the current CS3 I will just be running in parralels, but
I asked about
when cs4 comes around if I could just upgrade to the mac
version. I was
told by a cs rep that this is not possible I would have to
purchase a fresh
install. Is this not correct, is there a way around it?
thanks,
randy

  • Help With Various Dreamweaver Issues

    Dear Friends,
This is my first post and I appreciate any help any of you
can give me. My knowledge of web design is minimal, but I do have a
basic understanding. The fundamentals of HTML and web design as a
whole are pretty clear. My weakness, however, shows in the fine
detailed issues that come up throughout the course of designing a
website, and much of it may have to do with a lack of knowledge
with the software I'm using. I love Dreamweaver CS3. It's an
    excellent program. I'm totally hooked!
I'm in the process of building a website for a friend who
owns a retail gift store. The site has a total of 41 pages. The URL
    is
    http://www.southerncharmgifts.net
It has taken me over a month to get this site to the place
where it is now. I've learned a TON about web design, CSS, and the
Dreamweaver program itself. I've been able to work through many of
the issues I've had, but I'm stuck on a few things:
    1.
    Browser Issues.
I've found it hard to sync the content between browsers:
    namely IE and Firefox.
    For example:
In IE the sub-menus wrap (as I want them to), but in Firefox
they do not. But in Firefox the sub-menu
box borders are visible (vertical menus), even though the
text doesn't wrap, but it's obviously in the dimensions that are
    seen in IE.
In Firefox, the sub-menus are too far from the parent. It
looks bad. But they are perfect in IE.
The background image is centered in IE between the menus and
adverts, but not in Firefox. How do I get the background image to
remain between the menus and adverts? (Note: There is no background
on the home page. Also, wider screens seem to move the background
    in IE, too.)
In the horizontal menu "Category" the sub-menu item "Babies"
cannot be selected in Firefox. In IE it works.
There are gaps between items in the horizontal sub-menu. It
appears to be related to items not wrapping, but it doesn't seem
that enlarging the sub-menu box causes the item to not wrap. For
example, under "Category" "Candles & Fragrances" is wrapped and
it seems to be the reason why there is a large gap between "Babies"
and "Eyewear." If I can find a way to get Candles & Fragrances
to NOT wrap it might remove the gap.
    2. CSS Issue.
I can't find a way to have the sub-menu hover
underline instead of highlight the items. I want it to
    underline.
    3. "False" Issue.
    In the
vertical sub-menu "by CATEGORY" the word "false" shows up
just below the word "Babies." (It's hard to see, but it's there.)
    THANKS!!

Your limited research has failed to uncover the essence of
    proper technique
in creating web pages. Layers are NOT a general layout tool
    and will cause
you much more grief than you ever imagined. Here's one big
    reason -

    > divs/layers are an excellent tool in Dreamweaver
They are, but only for specialty applications.

It is my personal opinion based on seeing hundreds (if not
    thousands) of new
users throw themselves on their swords as a result of having
    committed to
pages built with layers, on this very forum.

Starting over from scratch need not involve a redesign of the
    graphics. But
on a site built from layers, it would certainly involve a
    rethinking of the
    layout method. Read this -

  • Flash / Dreamweaver issue

I posted this in the DW section as well.
On the home page of my site I have a flash file inserted
below a navigation bar. Every 4 seconds or so, the image swipes
over to show a new image. The problem is that when I'm using the
navigation bar above it (created in Fireworks and inserted as FW
html) the dropdown items disappear when the "swipe" action occurs.
It actual looks like it gets covered up by the moving image. It
does this in both Firefox and IE (5.2 for Mac) but it works just
    fine in Safari.
    Can anyone help?

Would saying "never use flash buttons" be an acceptable
    response to this
    question?
If not, then blast on. If so, then I commend you for your
    wisdom and
adaptability. Flash buttons are a very poor choice for a
    website.

  • MySQL Localhost Connecting to Dreamweaver Issue

    Hi,
I have just iinstalled and set up MySQL v5 on OS X 10.4.3.
I am using CocoaMySQL as a GUI to add / edit tables and data, this works fine as when I connect to MySQL and a database I don't have to enter a password. I use the following settings...
    host: localhost
    user: root
    password: <empty>
    database: test
    Everything else is empty.
This works fine. But when I use Dreamweaver 8 to connect to MySQL I get issues. I use the following settings...
    Connection name: test
    MySQL server: localhost
    User name: root
    Password: <empty - don't have one>
    Database: test
I have also tried using 127.0.0.1 as the MySQL server address.
I get the following errors when I try to test connect the connection...
"HTTP Error Code 404 File Not Found"
So it can't find the MySQL connection? and it brings up an error when I click 'OK' saying that I should have a password.
I think the major issue is not being able to connect in Dreamweaver when I can connect in CocoaMySQL!
Anybody out there got any ideas?!?!

    Hi,
I had the same problem, and I think that you should use your public ip to connect to mysql.
I think that this problem comes for some dns issue on which I'm working on.
Try to connect to your server using mysqladministrator you can download for free at mysql.com to see the root privileges or to connect to your mysql daemon using terminal with mysqladmin -command utility.
Read my post about mysql 5 maybe you will find some interesting things...
    Good Luck

  • Help, Dreamweaver issue

I have created a rollover menu, which I tested in the Safari browser before exporting, in FW, and the rollover works great. When I export to dreamweaver, rollover no longer works. What am I doing wrong? Help!

You may not be doing anything wrong. Take a look at this article and see if it helps to resolve the issue: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/behaviors-fireworks-html-dont-dreamweaver.html

  • Infuriating Firefox / Dreamweaver Issue - Please Help!

    Hello
I'm close to finishing a quick job for a friend -
    http://www.loveheadmistress.com/
It all works fine in Safari but is messing up in Firefox,
    Opera etc
The issue is with the swap image function on the main menu on
    the left.
When viewed in Safari all the images swap and restore fine
but in Firefox etc wen the first and last options in the menu are
rolled over the image disappears, giving a terrible strobe effect.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really know very
little about web design as you can probably tell from the overall
    construction.
    Thanks!
I've posted this twice - any idea where the delete thread
    button is?

Hello, I read your post about the rollovers not working once
you import the html/images into DW. I am having the same problem,
and it's driving me crazy because it used to work fine. I haven't
    done anything differently.
So, I am wondering if you ever got a solution to this.
    Thanks!

  • Dreamweaver issues in firefox

Hi, I built a website in dreamweaver and it works well in all browsers except for firefox. As you can see the back ground colour is peeking through and the content columns are sometimes floating out of place. Address is reconinspection.ca.
    Thanks for your help.

First of all, it looks like your are doing tables for your layout. Since you have no tabular data within them (a spreadsheet or calendar might be a good example), I have to wonder why you're using tables at all.
You are also using inline styles. You need to understand HTML and CSS and to construct your page correctly, using modern standards.
Just looking at your HTML, you're doing no general "wrapper" div. Instead, you're creating one <div> for the problem area and figuring it's going to suffice. You have images for navigation and then an image above and below your navigation instead of just making a background color.
Here is how to make a real website:
Don't use inline code to place anything. Place it in rules in your external style sheet and you do not need a separate style sheet for each rule (you have two: "site-layout.css" and "site-layout-content.css" each containing one rule).
In your one CSS stylesheet, after you have your body the way you want it, declare how you want your text to be in your body. That includes how links should be and how your header elements (<h1> through <h6>, or as many as you actually are using) should be.
Then make a "container" div, also referred to as a "wrapper." You should declare a common background for everything in that container and, in your case the rule should be:
    background-color: #241E20;
The "wrapper" should have the width you want for your whole website (everything else needs to fit in there). Based on what you have done, I would recommend:
    width: 968px;
Now, you've got a container to put everything inside of.
Next, declare your header. You don't need your images for the top and bottom above and below your navigation because your color is all ready done. Instead, you declare a header div with a height of your "Recon" image or simply allow that image to define your height. Now, within that header div you create a navigation div. Navigation is going to need to be positioned out to the right. You're also going to need to position it down from the top of the header div thusly:
    #nav {
         margin-left: 346px;
         margin-top: 51px;
This positions your navigation as you currently have it to the right of your Recon image and down from the top of the div. You'll place your HTML code for your navigation within that div.
We've done the wrapper and the header. Now for the fun stuff.
You need a div for your banner. I would place it outside of your header, even though your header could contain it. It's simpler from your standpoint because you'll be thinking of blocks within blocks. You don't even need to declare it within CSS, but if you want to put text over it or to position a div that will have the "Recon Inspection, LTD" text in it (which you can do in CSS by creating a div that moves the text down like we moved your navigation down as well as gave it a left margin that places it where you have your text in your picture.
Making a text block like that is very good for search engine optimization, as search engines cannot "see" photographs. And your alt text "home_banner_image" doesn't say anything about your company.
Now let's get to the fun stuff -- and your actual problem.
    Define a content area:
    #content {
         margin-left: 20px;
         margin-top: 10px;
For your content area, you have "about us" That should be a <h1> tag and should be formatted so that it is apparent. Search engines will look for these tags for key words in your page. It will pick up your background from your "wrapper" or "container."
Type in the rest of the text and make it a <p> as you have done, only with left margins that will place the text where you want it. And, rather than do a <p> </p> above your "about us" text, define the <h1> with a left margin the same as your <p> text and with a top margin that avoids the need for that non-breaking space paragraph.
Now, you'll see all of your text in that div. So how do you handle the photograph?
Create a float right with a margin:
    .fltrght {
         float: right;
         margin-left: 30px;
I am estimating that left margin, it may not be exactly right, but you will push your text to the left with that. You put your photograph in right after the <h1> tag:
    <h1><img src="images/about_us_image.jpg" alt="about_us_image" height="338" width="452" class="fltrght />About Us</h1>
Now your photo lines up to the right of your text and you can change the alt= text to say something more about the company, like alt="Recon provides advanced  API Inspection services and Non Destructive Examinations in compliance with all applicable governing bodies" this would place that alt text into a first header which is good for SEO.
Now, you don't have a footer. You may want a copyright. So you need to clear any floats with your footer.
So you want to define your footer (I am using HTML4 and CSS2.1 here)
    #footer {
position: relative; /* this gives IE6 hasLayout to properly clear */
clear: both; /* this clear property forces the .container to understand where the columns end and contain them */
Now, you may want to have a contrasting color for your footer with different colors for text within it as well. I frequently define text to be a little smaller in footers, unless they contain navigation.
In your HTML, all of your divs lie within the "wrapper" or "container" div. That includes your header, your banner, your content and your footer. Some of your divs lie within other divs, like your navigation lies within the header and the text for Recon Inspection, LTD lies within your banner.
In your HTML, when you are making your <div> close the tag (</div>) before you do anything else. If you have divs within divs, place them and close them. Then go back and insert your pictures, HTML and text.
That's how you should do your page. And this will work in all browsers.

  • Fireworks and dreamweaver issue. How they work seamlessly?

Hi, I am new to these programs.
I am trying to make a website using fireworks and
dreamweaver. I've made my navigation area and headline in fireworks
(simple navigation on left side and header on top). When I export
this to dreamweaver, I am unable to make text etc in the blank area
(main body content area) because as soon as I start typing,
dreamweaver moves my navigation around because I think it is
somehow linked to the main body area?
I think I am missing a crucial step in this process.
How do I use fireworks and dreamweaver seamlessly to allow me
to edit body content of my pages, and not have it change anything
    on my navigation area?

  • Dreamweaver or Flash Issue??

    Hi everyone,
I downloaded the Dreamweaver 8.2 update last night and when I
opened dreamweaver, it ask me if I wanted to convert the scripts
that were no longer relevant and stupidly, I said yes to all my
files. My flash objects can no longer can be viewed on my website
however when I hit F12 to preview my files in dreamweaver I can see
them, they just do not upload or rather the page online is blank.
I’m not sure if the following targets my problem because I
have so many errors now, but these two errors stood out:
    1. The tag name “embed” Not found in currently
    active versions [HTML 4.0]
    2. The tag table doesn’t have an attribute
“height” in current active versions [HTML 4.0]
    Script example:
    1. <script type="text/javascript">
    AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase','
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0','wid th','584','height','333','src','Media/main','quality','high','pluginspage','http://www.mac romedia.com/go/getflashplayer','movie','Media/main'
    ); //end AC code
    </script><noscript><object

    height="333"></embed>
    </object></noscript>

  • Dreamweaver 6- installed AppServ to read CMS website (php files)

    Hi there,
I have installed AppServ as my local testing server as I wish to read a website that was built as a CMS (bespoked site), the site has downloaded into my local site folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\My Documents\Websites\GB Forklifts Test Site\httpdocs\
I have then set-up the site:
    1. Servers: localhost    under Testing
    Server Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\My Documents\Websites\Local Server\AppServ\www\GB  Forklifts Test Site\
Web URL:  http://localhost/GB Forklifts Test Site/
Testing Server: Server Model: PHP MySQL
When I click on the index.php file on the testing server (and also attempted on the Local site folder), the page comes up, I then get asked to click Discover, which I do then the Script waring comes up i.e You must discover dynamically-related files in orde to list them int he Related Files toolbar etc  I click Yes and the following message is displayed :-
Dynamically-related files could not be resoved because the site definition is not correct for ther server, Retry / Setup.  I clicked on Retry, which wasn't successful so pressed Setup and it reverts back to the Site set-up as in 1. above.  Please can anyone help, many thanks
I click on Live view the following msg appears from the test server:-
    Not Found
The requested URL /GB Forklifts Test Site/TMP2bqrfi.php was not found on this server.
    Apache/2.2.4 (Win32) PHP/5.2.3 Server at localhost Port 80
and the following msg via Liver view appears from the Local  Site Folder:
    Not Found
The requested URL /GB Forklifts Test Site/httpdocs/TMP1jdoyhk.php was not found on this server.
    Apache/2.2.4 (Win32) PHP/5.2.3 Server at localhost Port 80

Firstly, to be clear,  this is obviously not a dreamweaver issue but probably something in the apache configuration. To research this, I would try the following:
Convert the includes to "require" to see if errors appear. Make sure error display is active
Create a simple PHP page that has no includes and try it.
Try in at least Firefox and Chrome.
Check the paths in vhosts.conf (did the paths need to change change from one version of XAMPP to another)
Is apache listening to port 80 alone? (Listen 80) and are the virtualhosts set up for *:80?
    Is LoadModule vhost_alias_module modules/mod_vhost_alias.so uncommented in httpd.conf

  • Dreamweaver 8 on INtel Mac ftp problems????

The basic setup: I have an emac, installed Dreamweaver 8 (actually the entire studio package), it works fine. I want to move our webpage to a new imac (intel). I've copied the files, installed Dreamweaver 8, done the set up for the site.
The problem is: I can't get the FTP connection to work. Whether I'm in the SIte Management section, the TEST part, or trying to connect (with the little electric plug icon), I get this message...a file activity window opens, "An FTP error occured -- Cannot make connection to host. Dreaweaver could not connect because the serve is down or not accepting connections."
Things I've tried: I've explored diligently the Adobe/Dreamweaver website.
I've deleted the Files for Dreamweaver, the web site files from the local host, I've tested the connection using other FTP methods (safari -- a test suggested by Adobe or FEtch); I read some of the posts here after searching for Dreamweaver/Intel items. The server is not down since I've been able to connect an upload from another computer; the computer does perform FTP using other methods...which I suppose I can do...but it makes an extra step.
    I"ve tried using Passive FTP or not; I've tried everything I can think of...or suggested by outside sources (adobe, an instructor who teaches Dreamweaver, the Apple forums here); I modified the Hard drive name to eliminate spaces;
I've come to the conclusion it is more an "Apple" issue rather than a Dreamweaver issue.
I'm using the Dreamweaver on an emac and it works flawlessly!! But I need to use the emac for other purposes and set up the website on the Intel imac...
The Question: Any ideas or solutions or something to try????
Thanks for any help, suggestions, ideas. Cathy (working in an elementary school computer lab...)

Yes--I've tried the "test" ftp address suggested by Dreamweaver; I've used fetch to connect as well as upload something.
I've connected to the server from another computer....
Thanks for trying but...the server seems to be functioning okay.

  • Dreamweaver and Business Catalyst no longer keeps synchronization

Not sure is this is a BC or dreamweaver issue (probably BC but I will ask here first anyways), but ever since updating DW CC a couple of weeks ago the two systems can no longer maintain correct synchronization data. So I now get the following popups:
Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know how to FIX it or know if it is a bug in DW or BC?

I checked the blog page and can see that blogs are listed on page :

Are you referring to any specific blog post not displayed on page ?
If you are referring to Blog creation from site backend , then please check the invoice due as I cannot access site backend.

  • HELP - Multiple issues showing up.

I am just installed OSX Mavericks.
My dreamweaver is not showing Form Objects under the Accessibility menu.  So I decided to try to re-download dreamweaver.  But my Adobe Application Manager will not open.  And it won't download to reinstall.
    HELP.
    MD

We are experiencing multiple issues as well. We have a district that we have updated to Mavericks. The Creative Cloud programs DreamWeaver, Flash, Afer Effects all giving issues upon the update.
When trying to update using the Creative Cloud Desktop app, nothing updates, Always failing. Also, when trying to update via the Apps themselves, it will not allow us to update. Local Admin on the machine logged on, Signed into the Creative Cloud with the Enterprise logon, Updates Greyed out.
DreamWeaver issues:  Continually crashing and freezing during proces of renaming, organizing and linking files.
After Effects:  Will not launch after the new Mac OS update. Showing version 12.0.  Not compatible with OS X 10.9.  Update does not show up in the Creative Cloud Desktop App. Only update shows up on a freaking blog page:  http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/10/after-effects-cc-12-0-1-update-fixes-crash-on- mac-os-x-v10-9-mavericks.html
Flash Pro: Flash will allow to save into only certain drives, but will not allow user to open that file and acts as if it cannot read it.  Files can only be re-opened if they are saved to the local desktop/local drive. Not a network drive.
The testing between Adobe and Apple was no short of poor with these updates and OS update as well.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 + Safari for Windows problems

    Hello
Well first off I would like to Thank Apple for making a Version of Safari that runs on Windows. As a web developer (using DW CS3 for Windows) I always had to upload a test webpage to a server, look at it on a Mac, and go back to Windows to make adjustments. Now I can do it all in Windows.
I am having a problem with previewing a page on my local machine. When I preview in Safari it just opens my Safari Homepage. I have to preview in Firefox, copy the URL, and paste it into Safari to view my page in Safari.
I don't know if this is a Dreamweaver issue or Safari issue. Any help at all would be great. Thank you.

    Thanks, Sarah.
My post went out before I was finished. Then tried editing it, during which you replied. My reply to you was then lost, because I'm not allowed to edit... Sorry.
I have been busy figuring out what Safari for Windows will and won't play back through tedious trial and error. It did leave me insecure as to the reliability of AE's output; hence my question. But with this news, I guess it makes more sense for me to just leave it, and hope Safari for Windows users will figure to get another browser, right? Or wait.. maybe I could put in a message that will show to those users...
    Thanks again & all best,
    Phil
