Dreamweaver 8: Missing Snippet

I am noticing that I am missing the "Basic: Text Block"
snippet in the footer folder. Where can I find this to put it in
there?
Thanks, Oneb

I have this called "A basic block of text".

    you probably have to install the Dreamweaver update so that
    you're on
    version 8.0.2. just search Adobe.com for Dreamweaver update
    and you
    should be able to find it pretty quickly.

  • Dreamweaver CC, save snippets on a cloud service

    Does anyone know how I can share my DW CC snippets over a cloud location with my other machines? e.g. Save all snippets to google drive and have them sync with all my machines?
    Thanks all.

    Hi all, thanks very much for the prompt responses. I appreciate that. However, what I am looking to do is share my snippets folder via an online service, google drive was just and example, it could be Adobe CC, iCloud, OneDrive or whatever.
    I know I can email or cloud save the configuration/snippets folder somewhere and then re-install on the new machine, but that is very cumbersome. What I am actually looking for is a way to map Dreamweaver's snippets to a cloud location, giving the flexibility of working at home on a web project and thus creating snippets, then having the freedom to drive to the office or move to a laptop and continue working from where I left off with immediate access to my newly created snippets on the other machine. Much like you can with .AI templates etc.
    Seems to me that currently DW saves snippets locally with no ability to re-map this location. I think Adobe have missed the mark a little bit with this, they have a cloud platform and lots of things do not sync over it, including, in my case at least, all my keyboard shortcuts and workspace setups etc.
    Does anyone know if the above is possible? Thanks again all....

  • Dreamweaver 8. missing image elements on upload

    i created my whole site in photoshop CS2 and "save for web"
    over to dreamweaver CS2. only on the home page...when i preview the
    site in dreamweaver there is no problem, but when i upload the site
    to the remote server it appears to be missing some image files, so
    it randomizes the images that are there (redwoodbaptist.org) any
    help would be greatly appreciated.

    Wow! What a mess. You're simply paying the price for trying
    to build a web
    page in a graphics app. The HTML graphics apps create is
    messy and fragile.
    Plus it looks like you mucked about with it once you got it
    into DW. I see
    image pieces that have been resized in DW, stretched and
    squeezed and maybe
    in doing so you rearranged some of the. Rest assured DW
    didn't "randomize"
    your image slices.
    The only to ever have a worthwhile site is to start over and
    do it right.
    Use text for text and export only images from Photoshop.
    Create all HTML in
    DW.

  • Missing Snippet Descriptions (upgraded from RH7 to RH9)

    Hi all,
    I've pretty much successfully upgraded my RH7 project to RH9. I only noticed two problems, one of which is the subject of this thread - the descriptions for each of my snippets isn't displaying. It looks to me like this problem has something to do with the way descriptions were previously stored (in a title tag for RH7 and lower versions?) versus the way the descriptions are now stored (in a meta tag, i think, for RH8 and higher versions?).
    I took a look at the hts file for one of my snippets that was upgraded from RH7 to RH9. The code looks like this (I've bolded the snippet description):
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <meta name="generator" content="Adobe RoboHelp 9" />
    <title>Use this text above the table that explains Action menu items.</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <p style="margin-top: 2pt; margin-bottom: 2pt;">Select an action from the
    menu and click Go. </p>
    <p style="margin-top: 2pt; margin-bottom: 2pt;">&#160;</p>
    <p style="margin-top: 2pt; margin-bottom: 2pt;"><span class="NoteTitle">Note:</span>
    The Action menu may change depending on the content, the content's status,
    your permissions and what you have already accessed. Therefore, the options
    explained below may not all be available at the same time.</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    THEN, I created a brand new snippet in RH9. The code looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"  "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <meta name="topic-comment" content="this is a new test snippet" />
    <title>New Snippet</title>
    <meta name="generator" content="Adobe RoboHelp 9" />
    </head>
    <body>
    <p>This is placeholder text for your snippet. To add content to the body,
    replace this text. </p>
    <p>&#160;</p>
    <p>For information about applying snippets to topics, press <b>F1</b>.</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    Notice how the description for the brand new snippet starts with "<meta name" but for the snippet that was created in RH7 (and then automatically upgraded by RH9), the description for the snippet starts with "<title>".
    I have 101 (exact count) snippet files and would hate to have to go into each one and modify this line of code myself, so my question is this:  Does anybody know a good, faster way to 'upgrade' all of my hts (snippet) files to follow the new RH9 format?
    Here are two things I've tried:
    1. Using TextPad, I manually made the change in the .hts file. Result: The description still does not display in the Description column in the Snippets pod (on the left in the screenshot below), but it DOES display in the Snippet Properties window (on the right in the screenshot below).
    2. Copying the description from TextPad, then opening the Properties window for the snippet and pasting the description into the Description field, and saving the snippet. This WORKS...but I'll have to do it 100 more times to fix all my snippets, AND the Title tag still ends up being incorrect.   Although things LOOK correct in the Properties window (i.e., the Name field indicates the correct name for the snippet, and the Description field now contains the correct description), here's the resulting code:
    <meta name="topic-comment" content="Use this text as the explanation for the Add To Cart Action menu option." />
    <title>Use this text as the explanation for the Add To Cart Action menu option.</title>
    So, the meta and title tags end up having the same values! The title tag should say "Add To Cart" - I don't know how it's possible that it doesn't contain this text as the value for the title tag. Thus, it seems like in order to get the descriptions in there correctly, I have to do a copy, then paste into the Properties window in RH9, but to correct the Title tags I have to open the .hts files in a text editor (i.e., *outside* of RH9) and enter the correct title text for each snippet. Is this really going to be this time-consuming to fix?

    Let's try again.
    First forget thinking in INCLUDE mode. Everything will be included unless you exclude it.
    Example.
    Topic 1 has tag A applied to the topic
    Topic 2 has tag B applied to the topic
    Topic 3 has tag A applied to some of the content (let's say to the word Redrabbit) but not the topic itself.
    Topic 4 has the tag A applied to the word Redrabbit and tag B to the word Greenrabbit but no tag on the topic itself.
    This is how it should work.
    Topic
    Topic tag
    Text tagged
    Expression Not A
    Expression Not B
    Expression Not A and Not B
    Header 6
    1
    A
    Topic will be excluded
    Topic be in output
    Topic will be excluded
    2
    B
    Topic be in output
    Topic will be excluded
    Topic will be excluded
    3
    None
    Redrabbit is tagged A
    Topic will be in output but the word Redrabbit will be excluded
    Whole topic will be in output including the word Redrabbit.
    Topic will be in the output but the words Redrabbit and Greenrabbit will be excluded.
    4
    None
    Redrabbit is tagged A and Greenrabbit is tagged B
    Topic will be in output but the word Redrabbit will be excluded
    Topic will be in the output but the word Greenrabbit will be excluded.
    Topic will be in the output but the words Redrabbit and Greenrabbit will be excluded.
    Below is the expression dialog.
    Here I have selected from Available Tags and put them in Exclude.
    Click Advanced and you will see how RH writes the expression.
    Written like that, does it now work for you?

  • CS6 Dreamweaver Extensions Missing

    I have just updated from CS5, and normally Extension Manager imports all extensions from the previous version on installation. this appears to have happened with the other apps, but not Dreaweaver. With Dreamwaever selected in Extension Manager there are no extensions showing at all. My Dreamweaver CS5 had 45 extensions enabled. I don't want to have to look them up one by one on exchange and install them. How do I import them?

    I did this by launching the Extension Manager panel in DW CS6 and  hitting the Install button.
    Browse for old version of DW / Extension Manager / Configuration / Extensions / and clicking each of  the .mxp files.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 missing 'border' in properties

    Dreamweaver CS5 and below contained the 'Border' property in the Properties pane. But in CS6 it does not contain Border.
    I found this extremely useful, and easy to set my border quickly on my images.
    Is there a way to turn the function back on so it appears in the bottom Properties Pane again?

    I appreciate Nancy O.'s "it's to create compliant code" explanations, but after reading this thread, I still haven't gotten any idea how to do what I need and want to do.
    It would be much appreciated if someone could explain how to—on an image by image basis—apply a thin border to an image using DW 12.
    I too used this tool (In DW 2004/Mac) to easily and quickly add borders to images, and have now spent more than an hour trying to add a thin border to an image on a website page.
    DW 2004 won't function on OS 10.6.8, so I upgraded to CS6/Mac via Creative Cloud.
    I am not happy to discover that what was—for me—an often-used function is not available anymore, and there's no workaround that I can seem to discover without having to spend more time (=$$)
    Dreamweaver draws many types of users, and they use it in ways that get the job done for them.
    I'm a business owner who creates his own websites. DW's WYSIWYG approach and results caused me to spend the (big) bucks in 2007 to get a tool that was and is a high-end website development tool.  I may not use more than 20% of the capabilities, but that's my choice, or more my situation due to lack of time and money to hire developers whom I'm sure could get the job done.  Maybe that's in the future. (One can hope... )
    Needing to upgrade to get a working tool, I drank the Adobe-aide and bought into Creative Cloud.
    Reading this thread, it seems that the development direction (either at the HTML code guru level and/or as a result of that at Adobe) has been to—in effect, anyway—force users to fit their work to the tool, rather than the other way around.
    It's akin to being told our 2007 vehicles now can't drive on city streets because they're not (allow me to mix metaphors) HTML5 compliant.
    I did try Muse, but found that it was very slow to respond, was difficult to get elements to stay put, and limited in how certain things could be used without added expense of hosting on the Adobe business whatchaallit site.
    I was dissapointed, and found that my and caused me to spend more time learning to use something new that ultimately didn't fill my particular needs. A circle.
    So back to Dreamweaver, but through Creative Cloud.
    And... after spending an hour or more trying to do something that was simple... and venting a bit here... I still need to know:
    How to—on an image by image basis—apply a thin border to an image using DW 12.

  • Classic ASP support in Dreamweaver CC missing

    The prime reason why I bought CC is for a website that requires Classic ASP support. (I am returning back to Dreamweave after 8 years), to my surprise, I found ASP is not in the list, Nor ASP.NET.
    This is very BAD.
    Before cancelling my CC subscription, I like to give one last try to post my request here.
    Is there any way I can gain ASP support in Dreamweaver CC?
    Thanks,

  • Missing component of Dreamweaver

    I have been using Dreamweaver for a long time without any
    problems, now, reinstalling Windows XP and Dreamweaver after a
    breakdown I suddently face an annoying problem.
    When I try to insert a Flash Button into the page I get the
    following error message:
    &amp;quot;Could not create the Flash button because a
    component of Dreamweaver is missing. Please reinstall
    Drewaweaver&amp;quot;
    I did of course try to reinstall Dreamweaver but without any
    result, same error appears.
    The name of the button is: FZ MultiButton and I have been
    using it (them) before.
    I can insert other buttons without problems.
    Today I have updated Dreamweaver to version 8.02 but still no
    succes.
    The most annoying thing is that I don't know which Component
    is missing and hope somebody out here can help.

    you probably have to install the Dreamweaver update so that
    you're on
    version 8.0.2. just search Adobe.com for Dreamweaver update
    and you
    should be able to find it pretty quickly.

  • Dreamweaver Snippets Don't Appear in Snippet Folder

    In Dreamweaver 5 on Windows XP, I created multiple snippets. I created a folder for them in Dreamweaver called "My Snippets." The snippets work fine. However, I can't find their source files where they are supposed to be in Windows File Manager C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\Snippets\. Neither the folders nor the snippets are there. I have done numerous full hard drive searches and cannot find them anywhere.
    The reason this is an issue is that every time I updgrade to a new version of Dreamweaver, all my personal snippets vanish and I have to recreate them. I also can't share them with anybody (I can't find the files).
    Any ideas why this might be happening?
    Thanks!
    Darren

    However, I can't find their source files where they are supposed to be in Windows File Manager C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\Snippets\.
    Uhh - that's not where they are supposed to be.  Check Documents and Settings/<user>/Application Data/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5/en_US/Configuration/Snippets.  That's where all user defined items go.

  • Dreamweaver missing CS6 items

    Dreamweaver is missing these items.  Is it a setup issue or are they not included yet?
    Design Notes indicator on site files tab.

    Upload indicator missing.

    There were many changes between DWCS6 Disk > DWCS6 Cloud > DWCC
    Many items that were in previous versions have been removed. You can check out a lot of it in the DWCC Blog: http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/tag/dreamweaver-cc
    If you have DWCC and attempt to use a DWCS6 resource (web tutorial, book, etc) there will be many missing items.

  • My custom snippets disappear after updates

    This has been an issue with several versions of DW. When I enter my own snippets, they will be there again when I open DW a few times, and then later, they just randomly disappear. This always happens when I upgrade to a new version of DW. Maybe I installed an update and that wiped them out this last time, but I am not entirely certain that updates are always the cause of the missing snippets. Is there any way to back up these snippets or can Adobe prevent this behavior in the future?
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Each DW version installs as a stand-alone application.  Your custom snippets are saved under your user name in a folder called snippets within the Configuration folder (on Windows 7 this is here for me - C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5\en_US\Configuration).  You can copy and save that folder, and then after installing the new version place it in that same location except with the new version of DW (i.e., Dreamweaver CS6).
    On a Mac, this location is <user>::Library::Application Support::Adobe::Dreamweaver CS5::en_US::Configuration
    If you have not uninstalled the older version, you can recover your snippets from that location.

  • Dreamweaver as code generator for use in other applications?

    Hello and thank you in advance for your time and your help!
    I realize and apologize for this lengthy post but I had to explain my issue thoroughly...
    I've just begun teaching myself to use Dreamweaver CS3 (on an iMac running OS X 10.5.8 - Leopard) with the  "Dreamweaver CS3 Missing Manual". I don't know HTML or CSS but am very  willing to learn as much as I can. In the near future, I hope to create a  new website for my domain in Dreamweaver. However, I have an urgent and  immediate need and would like to know whether Dreamweaver can serve a specific purpose...
    My question is whether I will still be able to accomplish the following (even if it is by different means) once I convert to Dreamweaver from FrontPage AND whether or not I should abolish all of the current files at my web server and remove FrontPage extensions before I invest any time into making Dreamweaver my new tool for website development and maintenance.
    I have a domain hosted by GoDaddy and a rather old website that I created using FrontPage 2002 (on a Windows XP desktop). For over 5 years now, I've used FrontPage so that I can work WYSIWYG to generate HTML code that I use in my eBay auction listings. Recently, however, the "network folder" for my web server (on the Windows XP desktop) stopped accepting my password and I cannot find a fix for it. It's my opportunity to finally break from FrontPage but I'm hoping that, before I do, someone can tell me whether or not Dreamweaver can serve my interim and long-term purposes.
    I've been uploading image files using the "network folder" in Windows XP that I set up with FrontPage over 5 years ago. I "drag and drop" or "cut and paste" image files from my computer to my web server in Windows Explorer via the "network folder". Once the images are on the web server, I open FrontPage and ensure that the images show up in my web server files. I then open an existing .html document that I have saved on my hard drive, replace text and images within the file, save the file under a different file name, and then switch to code view where I copy the code directly from FrontPage into my eBay listing. This works perfectly well and has for over 5 years. I do not publish these .html files to the web, nor do I upload the .html files to my web server. They exist only on my hard drive and simply to provide the underlying HTML code for the eBay listings and nothing more. This method allows the images in my eBay auctions to be automatically sourced to their location on my web server without requiring me to do anything more than insert the image(s) from my web server into the .html document/file.
    I think I'm discovering that Dreamweaver works specifically with websites and I'm wondering whether I can use it more generically in this way. If I'm learning correctly, Dreamweaver is quite particular about web server files having an exact match to a root folder on my hard drive. I've defined my site within Dreamweaver and I've since downloaded all existing files from my web server to my hard drive within a folder that is designated as the root folder. However, when I now open an existing .html document (one originally created in FrontPage and stored on my hard drive only) and replace an image (by cutting the existing image and dragging the other from the "remote view" of the "files" pane) with one that exists both on my web server and in my root folder, Dreamweaver makes the source/reference path point to the image file on my hard drive and, as you know, that won't do if I transfer that code to my eBay listing. So I've uploaded the actual .html file to the web server within Dreamweaver (something that I never had to do with FrontPage) and now I can change the HTML code manually (or the source in the "properties" panel for the image) for the image source to include "http://mydomain/..." (it doesn't include that automatically as FrontPage did). That now seems to make the code work but I have to store my .html files on the server and I have to make that manual change.
    My question is whether I will still be able to do accomplish  the following (even if it is by different means) once I convert to  Dreamweaver from FrontPage AND whether or not I should abolish all of  the current files at my web server and remove FrontPage extensions  before I invest any time into making Dreamweaver my new tool for website  development and maintenance.
    Thank you very sincerely for taking the time to read this and for your response and good advice!

    Get Turbo Lister (a free page editing and listing tool from eBay).
    http://pages.ebay.com/turbo_lister/
    eBay uses some seriously flawed markup on their auction pages.  In fact, they don't even ALLOW you to use good code. You're better off using their proprietary tools for this.   IMO, DW is not the right tool for creating eBay pages.
    When you're ready to build a serious web site, come back to Dreamweaver.

    http://sites.google.com/site/livesnippet/javascript-files
    live_snippets_startup.jsx - has finished.
    Initiate the dialogs and the essential styles, elements and variables to be ready for the other scripts.
    new_from_the_selection.jsx - has finished.
    This export the selected text (and only the selected - not the story) as a new InCopy file to a folder called "live_snippets" inside the document's parent folder. These InCopy files named automatically with four digits like this file "live_snippet.0006.incx".
    The selected text enclosed with starting and ending marks by adding small anchored text frames with nonprinting attribute and labeling these text frames with the snippet number (the number of the Incopy file).
    check_the_document.jsx - has finished.
    Check and states of the instances with their Incopy files. and mark the modified and missing snippets by spoiling the font style of the starting anchored text frame contents so they appear in the preflight panel. And changing the colors of the modified snippet to blue and missing ones with red.
    submit_this_modification.jsx - hasn't finished yet.
    Modify the snippet (the Incopy file) by re-exporting the instance that the text cursor inside it.
    update_this_instance.jsx - I haven't started with it.
    placing the snippet (the Incopy file) to update the selected instance (by selecting the starting anchored text frame or by putting the text cursor inside the snippet.
    place_snippet.jsx - I haven't started with it.
    place a snippet in the text cursor location without having to browse to the live_snippets folder (only getting the snippet number is enough).
    I will continue until the collection reach a perfect stage and has a comprehensive abilities.
    The current features:
    You can choose to place the snippet so the instance follow it with formatting or without formatting.
    You can add a description to the snippet which stored in the file meta data.
    Intended features:
    You can nested the snippets so it's possible to exclude partitions from the snippet to be in variety. Also in this feature you can change the order of the sub-snippets inside their parent so the global layout and the decorative elements could be changed permanantly and easily.
    I want to put these files on an online service (the google site is temporarily) , web site or forum so we can make our modification, online read and write code, supply our comments on the code lines and functions level, showing the downloads count, tracing the versions...
    So, is it available in this forum tools, because I tried to add the files from New>Document in my forum page and faced with a forbidden message.
    Also I hope if any one see that this approach is an unnecessary repeating of existing InDesign tools or plugins already in the market. Please tell me.
    When creating. The "With Format" option is set as default but you can change it for every instance (Not done yet) to its own option.
    These anchored text frames have nonprinting attribute, but we could print it by modifying the export or print options in reviewing stages so the numbers can be used as a reference in emails and broadly modifications
    When the achieve the ability to nested the snippets so we can in this question example change the points and assure that all questions have the same wording.
    The small circle indicate that the instances shares only the contents without the format.
    The Incopy files created automatically without the need to specify the location or name.

    What about if we put the marker on a separate layer to assure that the text will not be spoiled. How could we do that?
    Is it possible to use tags in the text and a text frames in a separate layer for showing the instances informations.
    But I tried to mark a text inside a text frame grouped with an anchored group and get this message:
