Dreamweaver 8 - new install won't import .ste

My hard drive screwed up and I had to reinstall windows 7.  I re installed dreamweaver 8 the exact same way I always do on a new computer or fresh install, went to import my saved .ste files which those same ones worked fine so far every time. This time it is not working.
I do:
> site
> manage site
> import
> browse to where I store my backups, I have 4 .ste files there
> select one
> open
> it tries to look inside the file I guess, then it stays in the browse files window and says "no items match your search"
Macromedia Extensions manager came up for a second I think? Could that need something, if so what? I opened it since it was showing in my recent programs but I don't know what to do with it.
I keep my programs on a 2nd drive and I did not remove my previous install, I wanted to avoid that if I could and just installed over it, it is only a few months old and for most programs this works ok. If no one has a solution I will try that next.
Thanks for any suggestions.
<moved by mod from downloading,installing, setting up - kglad>

I forgot to mention, I installed the 8.02 update and the 2nd 8.02 update that solves not saving ftp login passwords.
Yes I am able to manually create a site definition.
I just tried uninsalling and removing all files & re installing and tried again. It did add the name of the .ste before, but it was taking the directory where the .ste file was. It seems to have all my other settings, I just had to direct the path where my files are. It threw me since that never happened before.

  • New Photos Won't import from iPhone into iPhoto

i have photos i can see on my iPhone 4
but when I plug into USB on my MacBook Pro it
    is not importing
    please help

I am experiencing exactly the same problem, my iPhoto used to detect my iPhone and proceed to the automatic transfer of new photos, and now it doesn't anymore.
I've done quite a bit of research on this issue, but I can't seem to have any luck in fixing it...
Here's some fixes that I found on other sites that you could try:
    1. Reset the iPhone and your Mac.
    2. Check (from memory) if you have any pictures in your camera roll that weren't taken with your iPhone camera (this includes screenshots, photos downloaded from the web, email, etc.), this may be the cause of the problem and it's what makes iPhoto not recognize the phone as a camera anymore.
As for my problem, I've tried everything: resetting the phone, resetting my MacBook Pro, first deleting all photos that might be causing the problem, now I've deleted ALL my photos, and my Mac still won't detect my iPhone as a camera.
iTunes can see it just fine, and I can sync with it perfectly, but I can't sync it with iPhoto for the life of me...
If anyone could help, that would be perfect...

  • Logic Pro 9 new install won't load due to plug in problem - Rewire

Just installed Logic Studio with Pro 9. Every time I try to open it, it hangs. The loading window shows that Logic Pro 9 is searching for a TC Electronics plug-in called "TC voicestrip.vst". I get an error message from my TC Powercore stating that the sample settings in the host application are incompatible, so I've disabled the Voicestrip plug ins in AU Manager. I even removed those plug ins from the Plug In folder. After Logic Pro 9 hangs, I quit out of it, then get a message that says the app has quit unuexpectedly possibly due to a problem with Rewire. When I chose to send the error message to Apple, here's the msg it sent:

Any ideas how to fix this?

Two things: VST's don't work with Logic anyway, and they won't work in any program if you put them in the components folder. The Components folder is for AU plugins (that work with Logic) and the VST folder is for, well, you can guess...
But your real problem is Rewire. You must either update it to a compatible version, or remove the folder Propellerheads from *Library>Application Support*.

  • 10.3 Server new install won't boot from Mirrored RAID - HELP!!

    Hi all,
I had 10.3 Server running fine on a 450 MHz B&W G3 (home server use, nothing too demanding), when I decided to add a 2nd HD and run the server from a RAID mirror (both 80GB drives). I had problems enabling RAID on the boot drive with diskutil in Terminal, so I decided to rebuild the server. I didn't have much besides the system on it, so backing up data and re-installing isn't a big ordeal (or so I thought).
No problems creating the mirror set once I re-formatted the drives. The install seemed to go fine (10.3.4 on install disk), but upon restart, I got the flashing system folder/question mark. When booting from the install disk, Disk Utility recognizes the RAID, and Startup Disk recognizes the mirror as a viable boot drive and allows me to select it and restart. Same problem, no system found.
When I run diskutil info for the mirror, it lists the mirror volume as Not Bootable.
I've checked the disks with both Disk Utility and DiskWarrior - all looks OK. I've reset PRAM and NVRAM, taken out added PCI cards, and disconnected all FW and USB devices (besides kbd and mouse).
Unfortunately, B&W G3 can't boot from an external FW drive, so I'm stuck with booting from a CD/DVD for troubleshooting.
My next step is to re-install on a single drive again and try to enable RAID and mirror, but I'd sure like to avoid that if I could.
I've searched through this board and didn't really see this particular situation. Any of you smart server folks seen this before -- any ideas or suggestions??
    TIA,
    Brad
    B&W G3   Mac OS X (10.3.4)   450 MHz, 10.3 Server, 80GB RAID mirror

if you backup your data from a NON-RAID Drive (Single drive), create a RAID array and then Restore from the backup you created... you will find you cannot boot from the drive.
Apparently the sector or drive header information in a non-RAID drive is different than in a RAID array... so when you restore the backup data from the non-RAID drive to the new RAID Array; you effectively corrupt the RAID array not allowing it to be booted from.
The solution is to create the RAID array and then re-install your system from scratch... copying over the data you want to keep from your initial backup one file at a time (don't do a complete system copy or you will once again, corrupt your new RAID install).
I had the same problem and it took me a great deal of time to figure it out.

  • New install won't boot

I got a new laptop a couple of days ago and wanted to install Arch on it. Everything went fine until I tried booting it. I'm not sure where it gets stuck but I believe it's at the step where it waits for UDev uevents to be processed. Why I believe this is, is because that's also the point where it takes a fairly long while to get past when booting the install CD.
I took some pictures and a video of my laptop trying to boot into Arch which you can find here: http://yuri.vm.madoka.be/arch/
The first picture is where it gets stuck when booting normally, the next pictures are taken when booting from the CD.
If anyone could help me it'd be greatly appreciated.

JokerBoy wrote:adding nomodeset to the kernel boot line helps?
That one worked. Before this I also tried blacklisting nouveau by booting System Rescue CD. On that CD I also noticed I couldn't boot into a graphical environment so is it nouveau not playing nicely with my hardware or my hardware acting up? (New laptop...)
I also just tried installing the official NVidia driver and so far I have successfully started an X server which seems to work perfectly.
So basically I'm just wondering if there's a way to get Nouveau working in case I need it. I'll be using the official drivers when using Arch but if I ever need a GUI on my System Rescue CD I'm pretty much f'ed at the moment...

  • ITunes / Windows XP - New install won't open

I know other people have had this problem - I appear to have installed ITunes and QuickTime ok, but when I try to open ITunes nothing happens - it doesnt open, no error message etc.
I've trawled the internet looking for solutions, have uninstalled/reinstalled at least 5 times....disabled other applications, cleared Temp folders etc. I'm at my wits end...can anyone help?
Dont know if this is relevant but I have an old version of MusicMatch on my computer with a library of music in there and use MozillaFirefox to access the internet.
    thanks

I appear to have installed ITunes and QuickTime ok, but when I try to open ITunes nothing happens - it doesnt open, no error message etc.
some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
    (1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on the PC?
    (2) try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)
    (3) reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

  • New Install Won't boot after GRUB

I have been using ArchBang for the past year and a half so I finally thought that I knew enough about Linux to try installing a true Arch Linux system.
I followed the beginner instructions carefully and was able to successfully install my system (or at least I thought) and GRUB.  I am currently running my system on a Dell inspiron with two separate hard drives.  The primary drive is the one I am trying to install Arch on while I have Windows 7 installed on the second drive.
The drive I installed Arch on is /dev/sde.  I think that I successfully installed GRUB given that when I boot my computer it goes into GRUB and shows both my Arch Linux install and my Windows 7 system and when I select Windows 7 in GRUB it successfully boots.
But when I selected my Arch install in GRUB the system does not boot.  It just shows:
    /dev/sda1: clean, 31087/3751936 files, 478966/15000685 blocks
and then I am left with a blinking cursor and after a few minutes I get:

Anyone one how I fix this?  Do I need to reinstall?  As I said before I didn't receive any errors during the install and GRUB seems to be working correctly. Please remember that I am a newbie but please help!

No you don't need to reinstall, you do need to fix your grub configuration though.  It sounds like it is not properly pointing to the root partition.
Post your grub config and your partitioning scheme.
    Partition Scheme from lsblk output:
Name         MAJ:MIN        RM        SIZE        RO        TYPE        MOUNTPOINT
    sda             8:0                  0           931G       0            disk
      sda1         8:1                  0           57G         0            disk           /
      sda2         8:2                  0           7G           0            disk
      sda3         8:3                  0           866G       0            disk
    sdb             8:16                0           111G        0            disk
      sdb 1        8:17                0           111G        0            disk
    sr0             11:0                 1           1024M     0            disk
I don't now if this output of the partition table is what you want given that the lsblk is the only command I am familiar with.   The sdb disk is where the windows install is.

    Hi, BartleyBauer.
If the media that you are attempting to sync plays in iTunes, try removing the preference to sync music as this remove the media from the device.  Once this is done, try syncing the media again.

  • New install of Lightroom CC won't import any native RAW files from supported cameras (worked in LR 5)

Import fails, won't convert to DNG on import, won't import as native RAW CR files, Canon 1D X and 5D MkIII. HELP!

Won't IMPORT any files!!! Have deinstalled and re-installed LR CC, downloaded the latest DNG converter, used that to convert my Canon 1D X files to DNG, tried to import those DNG files, error. Error reads as follows:

The following files were not imported because the could not be read. (383)
    Suggestions anyone? Thank you!

  • CS3 .ste files won't import into CS5

I recently upgraded from CS3 <on XP> to CS5 <on Mac Snow Leopard.> I expected a learning curve, but I also expect that software works as specified.
My CS3 site definition files won't import. I followed the instructions in DW help to the letter:
Manage Sites---> Import--->browsed to .ste files, selected Choose, and nothing happens. The sites don't show up in the list in the Manage Sites dialog box. ARE THERE MISSING INSTRUCTIONS? IS THERE A PLUG-IN MISSING?
After I've tried to import them, the .ste files are then 'greyed out' from the list of files. It doesn't matter what source the .ste files come from: jumpdrive, email, etc.
Note:  This is a new, fresh & clean Snow Leopard install, and my files were transfered at the Apple Store. The CS5 install was just last week as well.
I have client sites to update. Please help!

Yes, I did export the .ste files from XP/CS3. I saved them to a jumpdrive, and also emailed them to my Macbook. I know some people don't read or follow instructions before they ask for help, but that's not the case.
This seems to be a CS5 issue in Mac Snow Leopard. Important note; I was able to import the .ste files to an XP machine running a demo version of CS5. I've moved site files before with CS, CS2, and CS3, on XP. Never had an issue with those flavors or that OS.
On my Mac, after I attempt to import the .ste files, they become 'greyed out'. All other file types (.html, etc.) also appear 'greyed out'. It seems like there's a missing step in the instructions?
Update:  I right-clicked the .ste files in my Downloads file, and chose 'Open with Dreamweaver'. THEN they imported successfully, and prompted me to choose the root folders. (If nobody answers the front door, knock on the back door!)
Thanks to all for your suggestions, but I think the problem is behind me. Long live the right click!

  • IPhoto won't open after new install and restore of back-up

    Hi guys
My hard drive just died (for the second time in 6 months!) so I have just gotten the computer back with a new drive. I did a new install of Tiger from my original install CDs, did the download thing to get all the updates, and ran a "restore" from my external drive using iBackup (http://www.grapefruit.ch/iBackup//index.html) to restore all my previous system settings, documents, etc. So far this seems to have worked well, a couple of 3rd party applications didn't re-install - specifically Neo Office and WiFind - but I was able to manually install those and everything seems to be working fine.
Except iPhoto. It won't open. When I click the dock icon it bounces once and does nothing. No little arrow under it or anything. Nothing at all happens when I click the icon in Finder (in the Applications folder). When I searched it in spotlight it told me there was a file called iphoto.crash.log, so I went and had a look at that hoping it would tell me the problem, but I don't understand it. I'm not particularly good at the behind the scenes stuff with computers.
Wondering what I should do now - if someone can perhaps interpret the log file and find the issue if that would help, or if I should uninstall and re-install iPhoto by itself (and if so, how?), or if there is something else that may be causing the issue. I noticed there are a few files relating to it when I search with spotlight but I don't know which of them might be relevant. I could post a screenshot if that is allowed, or post the log file if it would help?
Thanks in advance for any advice or help!
    Regards,
    Chloë

    400 Updates???
Did you Repair Permissions before & after each one?
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

Oh, for Pete's sake, folks!  The forum FAQs state very clearly that posters should always perform a forum search BEFORE POSTING.
This question has been asked and answered here ad nauseam here.  I'll bet there are dozens of such questions here in the last few months.
    How To Get Help Quickly
    Before you Post:
Firstly - have you really checked the 'help' option in the program? Many problems can be solved far faster by getting the answer from the Help File.
Secondly - check the Forum FAQ folder. There's advice there on many common questions and problems
Thirdly - use the 'Knowledgebase Search' option near the top of this page. Or you can click here to go to the relevant page and enter your search words there - or just search for 'Photoshop' there to see summaries of all the relevant items.

New install of CS3 on my new PC laptop won't open NEF (Nikon RAW) images. Same PC product opens them on my older desktop, and CS5 for MAC opens them on my iMAC.
What am I missing? CS3 has been registered and activated. Thank you

    Hi, Again, John,
I followed the instructions to the letter, and nothing worked. I still got the wrong kind of file message. After I tried to use the plug-in, I could no longre open pages in IE or Firefox. I have to wipe my new computer and reinstall everything. This time, I made CS3 the first thing I installed, and followed the instruction again as follows:
    "Windows
    ®
    1. Exit Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Bridge.
    2. Open My Computer.
    3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
    4. Navigate to Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats.
    5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to anot
her location (for example, a new folder on your
desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, fr
om the download into the same folder as Step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge."
Still unable to open RAW images in PS. I did notice that the two files I copied to the desktop folder were the same, although one was slightly larger than the other. I chose to keep both.
Why is CS3 working on my desktop from the same disk with no plu-in, but not on my new laptop? Is it Windows 8.1 instead of XP? That doesn't make much sense. PLEASE help. This is insane.
