  • Dreamweaver templates not updating on second installation

I have just purchased the new Dreamweaver CS5.5.  I installed it on my laptop first and it is working fine.  However the package is not working correctly on my husband's laptop.  He is finding that the templates are not updating the files despite going through the process. I am the 'techie' in our partnership and I did make sure both installations were identical.
Updates we are trying to make are outside of the editable regions.
It has taken me years to get him to accept an update for this programme, and now it doesn't work for him, he is not well pleased at me spending hundreds of pounds, when the Dreamweaver MX2004 worked well for him.
Please can someone point me in the right direction to put this right.
    Jean

We are not working on the same templates.  In our partnership, I build the templates and then turn them over to my husband to input the content.  The particular problem we are incurring at the moment is on a fully functioning website.  We noticed that on changeover from Dreamweaver MX2004 to CS5.5, the css file wasn't being read, the difference being:
    from  <link type="text/css" media="all" rel="stylesheet" href="/styles/style.css" />
    to <link type="text/css" media="all" rel="stylesheet" href="../styles/style.css" />
don't really understand this, but having updated the template, the dialogue box came up asking if you want to update all files connected to template, said ok, and the finish dialogue box says 211 files updated.  But when you open the file it hasn't actually updated at all.
Website looks ok online now as he has went back to MX2004 to upload a new page.

  • Dreamweaver 8 - not updating links when moving files

I am still having problems getting Dreamweaver 8 to work the
same way as my Dreamweaver MX2004. When I use the file panel in
Dreamweaver 8 to change the name of a file it does not update my
links throughout out site. I have gone to EDIT > PREFERENCE and
made sure that update links when moving files and the Prompt box is
    checked.
I have also tried Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache
    but it's not working.
Can anyone please help. Thank you.

Give me the code from a link that is not managed by DW,

  • Dreamweaver CS3 - Not Updating Files

I have this problem since upgrading from Dreamweaver MX2004
to CS3. I edit files on my local machine. I then tell Dreamweaver
to syncronize files and put newer to remove (which it does). But
when I check the remote nothing has been updated. Lately I have
been getting the message about files being newer on the remote when
they are not. I tried the fix of unchecking synchronization info
and then re-checking, but it still does not update anything. I
noticed that I modified a file at 11.01am, and uploaded it. It
didn't update but the remote file is showing as being modified same
    date but 6.15pm.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? I have been using
Dreamweaver for about 6 years with no problems.
    Many thanks
    Alan.

  • Dreamweaver template not updating Contribute pages

Currently I'm trialing Dreamweaver (MX) and Contribute
    (3.11), to check
that it's a workable solution for my company, in terms of
    editing and
auditing, but right now I'm having a problem.
I have some templates (.dwt files) that I create in
    Dreamweaver, for
use with Contribute, i.e. I create the template, other people
    create
the content for our site based on the those templates.
The issue is that when I make a change to the template, I
    would expect
the pages created in Contribute to be refreshed to use the
    new
template, but that doesn't appear to be happening. The only
    way I can
get the page to be updated is to edit the page in Contribute,
    go to the
Format menu and choose 'Template Properties', then hit OK
    again to
close this dialog. I then see the page refresh with the new
    template
    changes.
Am I doing something wrong? I would expect, as I mentioned,
    to have all
pages automatically updated when the template is saved, and
    published.
Is there a setting I need to turn on, or a procedure of
    publishing the
template that I need to adhere to?
    any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Mark. While I think I've found most of
the things you mentioned since my first post, it is useful to get
confirmation of my finding, which appears to be consistent with
    your post.
Here's what I've found, and later, why I'm not really liking
    it:
If I edit the .dwt file in Dreamweaver and try to save it, I'm
prompted to only update those files I have locally that reference
    the template.
I can only update those local files that are checked out,
though the saving process will check them out automatically
If I create a new page using Contribute, I must refresh the
    templates first
    My concerns are:
if I can only update those files I have locally, then do I need
to have the whole remote site stored locally too? My company site
is huge (as it's translated into 6 languages) and has multiple
contributors/editors. It sounds like I will have to download the
entire site before I edit a template, and put it back again
afterwards. Is that right?? it sounds rediculous, so I'm sure I've
    got it wrong.
if I have the files locally, I must check them out before or
while saving the template. However, I then have to check them back
in manually. Again, with potentially 300 to 400 pages per template,
that's a lot of manual checking-in. If the saving process can
automatically check pages out, can it also automatically check them
    in again??
Like you, Mark, I find it strange that Contribute requires a
manual refreshing of templates. I've searched all the options I can
find, but I don't see an auto-refresh templates setting, which
would be sooo useful. As it stands I will have to instruct each
editor/contributor to refresh before they create a new page, and
    pray that they do.
any further advice from Contribute/Dreamweaver users would be
greatly appreciated. How do users with very large website handle
this? Are there any tricks or hints that you can pass on?

  • Dreamweaver Template not updating pages error code 2?

    Hi All
I wonder if someone can help me - I have a site that i made with Dreamweaver. I then got a new computer (windows 7) and updated my dreamweaver from cs4 to cs5. I have just tried to update my pages and it doesnt seems to be working.
Not sure what information you need - but I have a root folder and within the root site there is a folder with Templates and the templates have the extension .dwt
I have read some posts that say recreate the cache which i have tried - this hasnt worked
I then read another post that says you can update the pages by Modify > templates > Update Pages..
When i tried this I get the update dialog box, but when i try to update the pages i get the following error message:
"error accessing file - (name of the dwt file), file not found, error code 2"
Can i ask the what is the error code 2 - i mean is there any information about the error code which will help me to resolve my templates not being found? as i am bit stuck...
Would appreciate any help on this and thank you in advance
    Regards
    Lorna

I would like further help with the issue Guy McMickle identified.
When I update links to my two template files I receive the above Error Code 2 message four times. There are 22 page files based on these templates.
The <!-- InstanceBegin template... code does not exist in either of the template files. I does, however, show up in every one of the 21 files that were created from one of the two templates. In these files it shows up in uneditable header code.
Why does the error code only show up four times? If the instanceBegin code is only generated when a file is created based on a template, how can it be avoided or corrected?

  • Dreamweaver templates not updating *.php file

    Hello everyone,
I have been given an exisiting website to update that uses
    Dreamweaver templates.
I have made the changes successfully within the content.dwt
file, saved it, and then uploaded both the new content.dwt file and
the related *.htm pages that were linked to it.
After going to the website to double check the new pages I
found a *.php file that uses the same template, content.dwt, but it
never asked to update that particular file.
So, I opened the *.php file in Dreamweaver and tried to apply
changes from the content.dwt file to it using: Templates - Update
current page, but no such luck. Since there is no code at the start
of this file like the other *.htm files how do I "connect" it with
the newly updated template. I tried making a small change on the
content.dwt file so see what files would come up in the "do you
wish to update..." list but for some reason the *.php file is not
    there.
Perhaps the answer is fairly obvious to someone who has
worked with Templates a lot but since I have just started working
with templates I still have a large knowledge gap in this area.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Mr Zedd

Can you post a link to the PHP page, please? This will allow
    me to see the
    HTML markup on it....

  • Dreamweaver Teamplate with Library Item for Navigation/Sidebar not updating editable classes

I have a Dreamweaver Template that contains two Library items. One Library item is my navigation bar, the other is a sidebar that shows different content depending on what page you are on. I'm assigning an editable class "active" to the navigation bar to show you are on a particular page, and also assigning the editable class "active" to the sidebar to reveal a portion of the sidebar with links pertaining to that specific page. The default value for the class is "hidden". So what is happening is when I open a page I have created and "edit" the Library Items in it to edit these classes, it resets resets all the other pages on the site to the default class values. How am I able to use editable classes and Library Items to achieve this kind of functionality? The idea is to only have ONE navigaton bar to update on the site and to only have ONE sidebar item to update. Here is an example of the sidebar and navigation in action so you can see what I'm going for. Notice the green button in the navigation bar (that is a list item with the class "active" which is an editable class in the Library Item, also notice the tan links in the sidebar, that is an unordered list that has an editable class of "active" in the Library Items --- these editable classes reset to their defaults when updating the Library Item on the website).
    http://www.brumleve.org/joe/temp/CAP/mission.html

In my understanding, whenever you edit the contents of a library item, it will update all other occurances of this library item on the rest of the site. That's "working as designed" as far as I know, unless you break the link by telling it to not update - which kinda defeats the purpose I think.
But theres another way to do this using template properties, i#ve been using this approach myself a couple of times:
Write your navigation bar in the template (.dwt) file itself, then select the class= of your first menu item and choose .. (names might be off, I am using a non-English copy of DW): "modify > template > make attribute editable" from the main menu. Do so for all your menu items and name these new template properties something like "item_x_class"
You'll end up with something like this in your template source:
    <div class="@@(item_1_class)@@">
    and a matching
    <!-- TemplateParam name="item_1_class" type="text" value="active" --> in the header
Now, on each page, you can set the class within the template properties dialog ("modify > template properties"). If your main menu changes, it won't overwrite your template properties, but still update all pages when you do make a change to the menu.
If you're using multiple templates for your site, consider nesting templates, so the master template already includes your navbar and all subsequent templates will "inherit" changes to the navbar code (sans the editable class property).
Hope this helps.. or at least gives you an idea for further experiments..

  • DreamWeaver Template change not updating children webpages?

    Hi Group,
Sorry for my newbie question here.
I loaded an HTML webpage, and saved it out as a DreamWeaver Template file.
I then created webpages from the template file (( File - New - Page From Template - Site - Template), and made sure that the "Update Page when Template Changes" check box was selected/checked.
I then created several chldren webpages, and saved them as .html files.
I decided to change the navbar system - part of the uneditiabel region in the template - by opening the template file and edit-ing that file, and then saving it as the same DreamWeaver template file.
However, the webpages did Not Update to reflect the navbar changes in the template fle !??!???
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I believe it is something that I'm doing incorrectly with DreamWeaver ..

    Additional Info:
No -I haven't been able to get the DW Template feature to work on other sites - this is my first application of it to a website (actually it's the whole reason for getting DreamWeaver... I know it works, I know that I'm doing something wrong.. I just don't know what it is...)
All the .HTML files (index.html, cad.html, cam.html, etc. etc.)  are in the website's root directory.
The Template file is in its own sub-directory folder named "Templates".
Right now even the .css file is in the root directory....
Thank You for trying to help me -  I greatly appreciate it.

  • Dreamweaver Template files not updating other files

I took over a website and the site uses Dreamweaver Templates.  I'm not too familiar with the way that Templates works.  Anyway, the nav (links at bottom of website) need to be updated.  I updated the secondary.dwt file within the Templates folder.  I uploaded it, but it's not updating the pages on the website that use this template file.  Please help!

When you update the template from within DW, you should get a dialog asking if you want to update all of the files that use the template. When you click "OK" everything is updated across the site.
If you updated the template outside of the defined site, it won't update anything and you may have a bit of work on your hands.
In DW, you should have a Files tab with a drop down menu. The drop down menu should have all of your defined sites. Choose the site you are working on and a list of the files in that site will appear. Choose the template and make your changes and it will ask if you want to update everything else.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Code Coloring not updating

    Hi,
Recently, when trying to edit the code coloring in Dreamweaver CS4, it will not update the colors after I hit "ok." Anyone know why this might be? I've tried restarting Dreamweaver, clearing the cache, and even seeing if it would work on new documents but none of that helps. Thanks for any help!
    - Matt

Are you sure you're changing colors for you open document ?
I have issue with coloring too, but I thought after all this time CS5 will finally have Save option for exactly this issue. So I don't have to repeat this over and over again.

  • Dreamweaver cs6 does not update links when moving files.

Dreamweaver cs6 does not update links when moving files. I've tried changing my general > settings for "Update links when moving files" to "prompt", and Ive tried "always". Neither work for me. The files are moved fine, but the links don't change. When it's set to "prompt" - I'm never prompted. Is this a bug or is there another setting somewhere?

I haven't define a site. I've opened an index.htm file within a folder structure that I have on my MAC. When I moved a  file called art.htm (within the files tab) from a subfolder into the root folder with the index.htm file, it didn't update the image links in art.htm.
In order for DW to manage links, you absolutely MUST Define a Site...
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs5/gs01-defining-a-new-site/
Also, you MUST use the Files tab within DW to move files around within your Defined Site in order for DW to know it needs to update links.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 will not update.

My Dreamweaver CS6 will not update even though the updater program claims success.  I am trying to update to 12.3.  My existing version is 12.0 Build 5861.
    I noticed that user named
       wpccdistancelearning
has had the same problem, but I have not noticed any solutions provided.  I'm having the same problem as others with Dreamweaver saying that "Synchronization information can not be found... "  Putting an edited file will not update on the web site server.

Like I mentioned, I'm not sure about version 12.3, but this post seems to have some info that might help you...
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1283959
As for the Synchronization issue, are you just doing a normal Put (up arrow icon) or are you attempting a Synchronize (small circular arrows icon)?
Using an actual Put action shouldn't care about synchronization info and if it were missing you should have the option to Put anyway.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 Templates not updating pages since i copied the website to a new computer

Dreamweaver CS6 Templates not updating pages since i copied the website to a new computer
First i install CS6 on the new computer
    copy the projects
    import the websites
Now, when i change any template the pages do not update any more. New pages working correct. Also manuell updating works.
    Any Idea?
Where are the info about the join template and the pages. Seems on the old computer - but where?
    Thx

    hm?
now I made a new page from the template on the new machine - and find one difference:
    New Page:
    <!doctype html>
    <html lang="de"><!-- InstanceBegin template="Templates/mainvorlage.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
    <head>....
    Old Page:
    <!doctype html>
    <html lang="de"><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/mainvorlage.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
    <head>...
The slash / after template=" is not there on the new machine. If i remove the slash on the copied pages and restart dreamweaver then it works. A lot of work, but i can solve my problem this way.
Maybe there is some checkbox for path handling...?
