Dreamweaver 8 root site problem

I recently upgraded to version 8 from MX. My root site is on
my network storage, and never had a problem with MX. My image paths
are all wrong and now have just broken link placeholders. After
doing a little resaerch, I mapped a drive to my site folder, and
now the images are back IN DREAMWEAVER. My problem now is when I
pre-view a page in a browser (F12), the image links are broken
again...... any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, the two dots mean "go up a level". The first link
is a root
relative link, and it's the leading slash that refers to the
root.

It would happen in both, if you have temp files disabled in
both. No doubt
you had them enabled in MX and not in DW8. Check your Preview
in Browser
preferences.

  • Very annoying Dreamweaver multiple sites problem

    I have Dreamweaver CS5 running on a Mac version 10.6.8.
    I have 7 different/separate sites that I maintain. Let's say I'm working on Site A and I have 4 or 5 pages open in Dreamweaver. Then a request comes in for me to update one of the pages from Site C.
    So I use the drop-down menu in Dreamweaver to now switch to Site C. Which is on a different server and completely separate from Site A.
    Dreamweaver hates this. It basically slows to a crawl trying to switch to this new site, takes about 2-4 minutes to actually make the switch so I can then see Site C's files. And once Site C is open, if I happen to click on of of Site A's open files, it takes another 2-4 minutes to be able to work on it, because Dreamweaver must be switching back to Site A's server?
    But, I have the exact same set-up at home and this does not happen.
    And if, before I change to Site C, I close all of Site A's open files, the change is much quicker.
    But sometimes I forget to close all the files (and I think this shouldn't be necessary anyway) and am stuck waiting and waiting.
    Old versions of Dreamweaver did not do this, that is going on and can I fix it?
    Thanks
    Steve

    Honestly I have Transmit also installed on my computer so if I need to make a quick edit on a file in a second site, I usually just open that file and upload with Transmit so I can keep working.  I think you bring up a good point though about Dreamweaver's workflow for a lot of developers.  Maybe you should file a Feature Request for this.  Maybe it would be helpful to modify the Upload button to have a drop-down arrow next to it as an "Upload To" so that a developer could upload a file to a second site without having to open that site and stop their workflow.

  • Dreamweaver & Contribute Administration Problem

    I've got an odd scenario for a client site that I
    inherited after several other developers were involved over the
    past 2 years... I fear that the one who created the Contribute
    Administration interface is the one where there are some other
    legal problems involved, and there is no relationship left. If I
    contacted them, they would not cooperate. Sad but true.
    What I want to do is remove the previous Contribute linkage
    and then reinstall a new Contribute site administration that I can
    drive henceforth. I use Dreamweaver MX 2004 (still) and have no
    problem at all in accessing a client site via FTP, but the second
    problem is that I don't actually have total access to the hosting
    server panel as usually is the case. So, if this is going to
    involve deleting specific files, I'll need to know what to look for
    (if it's within my view) or what to direct the hosting contractor
    to find & delete.
    I presently update all content on the existing site design,
    but that's not very efficient and it's expensive at my rates for me
    to doing the day-to-day content update that the client could easily
    manage themselves via Contribute. Every time I first access the
    server via Dreamweaver FTP to upload new files, I'm prompted about
    enabling Contribute connectivity. I have Contribute, but don't have
    this client's Contribute Administration keys or details. Those are
    forever lost, I'm afraid.
    I've recently redesigned the site, and it would be ideal to
    enable my client to use Contribute. However, I'm caught in a loop
    since there is no way to access the orignal Contribute site keys.
    How can I find and remove the existing Contribute Administration,
    then reinstall Contribute with new Contribute Administration of the
    site? If I try to administer the site via Dreamweaver (Manage Site
    - Contribute tab), once it checks through the cache, I get an error
    that says "Could not find a page at the specified site root URL.
    Please check the site root URL." I'm wondering if the previous
    developer may have actually deleted something just to be nasty...
    they were pretty vile and unprofessional about a lot of things.
    This is far from the typical scenario I'm used to where I
    always have total control over the hosting environment, too.
    However, relative to an e-commerce component of their site, when
    I've had issues and knew what to ask for, the site hosts have been
    pretty responsive. I might be able to ask for specific files to be
    removed if I could only know what to direct them to do.
    Any ideas? Many thanks.

    > open up a third-party FTP client and log into the remote
    server.
    > Look for a folder named _mm that contains a file named
    contribute.xml
    >
    > delete that file and folder.
    Alternative:
    download the contribute.xml file and open it in a text
    editor.
    There is a way to reset the contribute Admin password if you
    get this far
    and want to leave the setup as-is but don't know the
    password.
    i can google for the answer i've given in the past, short
    version of what i
    remember, look in the .xml file for
    password="randomcharacters" and change
    it to password="" meaning password has no contents.
    upload the contribute.xml file to same location on the remote
    server.
    then login using contribute admin, and when prompted for
    password don't type
    anything, just hit enter key. Then reset the password.

  • Import and export a root site in a site collection in sharepoint2010

    Hi,
    I have site-collection in sharepoint2010 i.e. http://test.com/ and i have subsites under it that looks like this http://test.com/HR,http://test.com/payroll etc..
    root site in site-collection i.e. http://test.com/ has to be imported from other SharePoint farm but the subsite under it should not changes i mean the HR and Payroll
    let me know how to import a root site from prod farm with out affecting the subsites or breaking the subsites..
    if this is possible, please let me know the import and export commands without affecting the subsites
    Thanks,
    sarath.
    Sarath Sannadi Sharepoint Dev at Saksoft

    If you want to restore it root level in target farm then the Subsite under the site collection will not change.
    you use Backup-SpSite
    Backup-SPSite http://test.com -Path C:\Backup\site_name.bakand then in the target farm use Restore-SpsiteRestore-SPSite http://test.com -Path C:\Backup\site_name.bak -Forcechange the path accordingly.

    Hi  ,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you encountered the error “Application error when access /_layouts/AreaNavigationSettings.aspx, Error=Object reference not set to an instance of an
    object” when you try to enter Navigation Setting page.
    For your issue , please refer to the blog:

  • How to properly get folders, files into Dreamweaver Defined Site Folder from desktop

    I, obviously am a new Dreamweaver user, and I need to know
    the proper way of going about getting a folder, files, ect. from my
    hard drive into my Dreamweaver defined site folder. I understand
    how to insert an image from my hard drive into DW and it shows up
    in my site folder in the Files Panel. More specifically, using
    Lightbox2, after downloading Lightbox and placing those elements in
    a new folder on my hard drive, what is the proper way to get that
    folder into my site folder?
    Also, how can I properly add images to an images folder in my
    site folder in DW for possible later use, without inserting them on
    the page. I know by inserting them on the page from a folder on my
    hard drive, Dreamweaver prompts me for DW to recognize them. I
    would like to know how I can get them in there and DW to recognize
    them without actually inserting them on my page.
    And can and how can I move files, images, pages from one site
    to another? or should I? Thanks, if anyone can help me with these
    file moving questions.

    To restate courtney's explanation, *anything* that you paste
    into the site's
    local root folder will appear in DW's File panel, and will be
    considered by
    DW to be a part of the site.

  • Dreamweaver losing site setups

    A couple of months ago after an update Dreamweaver lost all my site setups. I have them all backed up and saved to STE files. I now have to open Dreamweaver, no sites listed in the Site Manager, and import the site I plan to work on. The next time I open DW the site setup is gone. I haven't been able to find any information related to problem via Google or Adobe.
    Help...

    Before proceeding, please check out this link about the latest release of DWCC update: The 2014 release Of Dreamweaver CC Is Now Live!
    Are you seeing Dreamweaver not quitting properly? The site preferences might be getting lost since DW is crashing on quit, and hence they are not getting saved.
    Can you try changing any default preference settings, and quit DW to see if it gets remembered the next time you launch the product?
    You can launch preferences dialog using Ctrl+U shortcut key.

  • Search - search for a specific list in the root site

    Hello ,
    I have a SharePoint portal .
    The structure is  "Root Site >> Sub site 1" && "Root Site >> Sub site 2" .
    I configured search on the server.
    in the "Search Result web part" , I set  "{SearchBoxQuery} Path:{Site.URL}" in the query text because I want when user in "Sub site 1" , search only through this site.
    The root site has a "Document Library" .
    I need when user on sub site 1 and search for a word . I need to search only on this site and just a document Library on the root site .
       How Can I do that ?
       Thanks
    ASk

    Hi himo,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to search only on one library of the root site and the subsite 1.
    I suggest you use the following query to query the result in the search result web part.
    {searchboxquery} Path:http://server/rootsite/subsite1 OR  Path:http://server/rootsite/library

  • Value does not fall within the expected range in my itemupdated eventreceiver while accessing a splist column on the root site collection

    hi,
     I am performing the below operations:
    1) Itemupdated event handler when a document is uploaded into the document library
    2) Now amreading another list which is in the root  site level so, i used spsite, spweb again and accessed that splist and trying to read single line of text column and user or group column.
    Now when i am reading this, i am getting the error "Value does not fall within the expected range".
    I went to resource throttling under central admin -->my current web appln and changed that value to 20  from 8
    even after performing the above, i am getting the same error.
    pls help anyone has faced this issue before.
    Accessing a splist which is under root site collection within the itemupdated eventreceiver is allowed in SP ?

    hello sir,
     as per my requirement i have to access a  splist which is residing in the ROOT SITE COLLECTION OF THIS WEB APPLICATION. the event receiver i have written is residing in one of the few document libraries within the sub site. there are hundreds
    of sub sites exist in this site collection. I need to access the root site collection within the itemevent receiver and access thatperson column from that splist. why i ahve kept this list at the root site collection level [
    http://server1:2020/ ] , because this  splist is the UI for customer's sp admin for performing  weekly tasks. like adding few items in the splist and my event receiver fires and check this column- person /group
    column ]  and apply permissions on the  document.
    so my doubt is it possible to access the root site collection from my event receiver code.
    spweb from properties web is just the subsite url and not the site collection. i want to get the root sitec ollection url's splist.
    also am already running this code under runwithelevatedprivileges.

  • Weird dreamweaver keyboard mapping problem

    weird dreamweaver keyboard mapping problem:
    Hope this solution helps someone out. If you have q's, ask
    and I will try to help.
    I was having a weird problem in dreamweaver... Whenever I was
    in code view and typed "shift+i" to make a capital "I", instead it
    would paste from the clipboard.
    I finally figured out what was happening. I compared the
    menu.xml in my app support folder in the user library to the
    original menu.xml file that was in the application folder. I went
    through until I came across the diff:
    menu.xml in my library/app support folder:
    <!-- Windows Navigation Shortcuts -->
    <shortcut key="Cmd+Ins" name="Copy2" platform=""
    command="if (dw.canClipCopy()) { dw.clipCopy() }"
    domRequired="FALSE" id="DWShortcuts_HTMLSource_Copy2" />
    <shortcut key="Shift+Ins" name="Paste2" platform=""
    command="if (dw.canClipPaste()) { dw.clipPaste() }"
    domRequired="FALSE" id="DWShortcuts_HTMLSource_Paste2" />
    <shortcut key="Shift+Del" name="Cut2" platform=""
    command="if (dw.canClipCut()) { dw.clipCut() }" domRequired="FALSE"
    id="DWShortcuts_HTMLSource_Cut2" />
    orig menu.xml file:
    <!-- Windows Navigation Shortcuts -->
    <shortcut key="Cmd+Ins" name="Copy2" platform=""
    command="if (dw.canClipCopy()) { dw.clipCopy() }"
    domRequired="FALSE" id="DWShortcuts_HTMLSource_Copy2" />
    <shortcut key="Shift+Ins" name="Paste2" platform=""
    command="if (dw.canClipPaste()) { dw.clipPaste() }"
    domRequired="FALSE" id="DWShortcuts_HTMLSource_Paste2" />
    <shortcut key="Shift+Del" name="Cut2" platform=""
    command="if (dw.canClipCut()) { dw.clipCut() }" domRequired="FALSE"
    id="DWShortcuts_HTMLSource_Cut2" />
    There was a diff in the "platform=" tags. The orig stated
    [platform="win"], my config stated [platform=""] (nothing in
    between the ""'s). So, I reset the platform tag to be
    [platform="win"] in my settings and then relaunched dreamweaver. It
    fixed the problem.
    Not sure how this occurred, but it works now.

  • First time going to a site where I do not have access and clicking the back button I'm returned to the root site instead of the site I started from

    Greetings,
    I have SharePoint 2013 enterprise using ADFS for authentication.  I have an issue where the first time going to a site where you do not have access and clicking the back button you're returned to the root site instead of the site you
    started from.
    ie:
    1) at site http://www.sharepoint.com/sites/finance/home.aspx
    2) browse to
    http://www.sharepoint.com/sites/finance/private/home.aspx
    3) receive a message: you do not have access to this site  ((oops went to the wrong location - I'll hit the back button))
    4) click the browser back button
    5) get returned to http://www.sharepoint.com/pages/home.aspx
    This only happens the first time browsing to a site that I do not have rights to, after this I can browse to the same site and hit the browser back  button and return to the correct site, or any other site that I do not have access to.
    Any ideas as to why this happens?  Ideas of where to start looking?
    Thanks

    Hi Robert,
    From your description, when you receive access denied message and hit back button in browser, it redirects you to the root site but not previous site. However, this just happens at the first time.
    You may try to use some tool or check log which can tell us how does it handle the request when you hit the button. And compare the issue time and non-issue time.
    I'd suggest you use Netmon tool:

    off. I guess we will rarely create projects with PWA, so I will see if creating a Project in Desktop has the same effect.  Still would like to understand why this is happening.  Thank you.
    Site Provisioning settings are located under Central Administration -> Manage Service Applications -> Project Application Service -> Manage ->
    Project Site Provisioning Settings
    Turning that off allows the group creation to cease.
    Then PWA Settings -> Operational Policies -> Connected Sharepoint Sites
    allows selective creation of a Project Site (Workspace)
    This set up is perfect for what I require.

    I assume that you're talking about the SharePoint security groups for each Project site? If so, then this is as designed. Each site can have different users, so this is absolutely necessary when you use SharePoint. If you do not want to create project sites
    for your projects automatically, you have already discovered how to turn off automatic site creation.
    If you turn off the Project application service, you disable Project Server. I don't think that is what you want to do. I don't understand your objection to the groups because if you are running in Project Server classic permissions mode, Project Server
    manages the group membership for you.

  • Root site collection size

    hi All,
    I've run: stsadm -o enumsites -url <webapplication name>
    and that's brilliant, but I need to know find information size on the root site collection so what it holds, and all the webs etc. it has any suggestions how I achieve this?
    Thanks

    Afraid not
    so what im looking for is something similar or the same as what you get when you run:
    stsadm -o enumsites -url <webapplication name> whereby it gives you all the sites under the web application with size owner etc
    Now I have the above, I need to drill further into the root site collection as that's where the majority of my data is, and need to understand which area within the root is taking it up

  • Missing Promoted Links app in root site

    Hello All,
    I'm working on an Intranet site for my organization.
    It was created in SharePoint 2013 enterprise, with the site collection created using the publishing template.
    Under the root site, i have 8 subsites.
    In each of the subsites I can add the Promoted Links app by going to Settings >> Add an app.
    However, I do not see the Promoted Links app in my root site in Settings >> Add an app.
    Do I need to "enable" this app in my root site somehow?
    Thanks in advanced.

    1) Any UPN change in your organization
    2) Any authentication changes on Web Application: if you switched between NTLM to Kerb.
    3) Check if User Profile Service is able to connect to AD/DC.
    4) PeoplePicker: What is your peoplepicker doing.
    5) Check SuperUser/Reader accounts are properly set.
    6) See if blobcache is setup correctly
    In my case, I had issue with PeoplePicker. How would you know? Open Manage Web Applications, select a web application and select User Policy. Try to add a domain user there and see if it resolves user name. If not then this means users who are trying to
    create their mysites are having one of above mentioned issues.
