Dreamweaver 8 settings to Dreamweaver 9

I recently upgraded to Adobe CS3.
When I launched Dreamweaver 9 for the first time, it seemed
to find all my sites defined in Dreamweaver 8 but when I try and
connect to the ftp, I found that although it copied the sites, it
did not include the ftp address, username or passwords.
Is there any way to get all the information to go in. I have
over 20 sites defined and would hate to have to manually enter the
information again.

the info should have been copied over-
to do it manually, open dw8
menu->site->manage sites
select a site, click export.
click yes to include ftp info
save the .ste file in a folder
rinse/lather/repeat for the other sites
open dw9
menu->site->manage sites
Import button.

  • When previewing my website in Dreamweaver flash crashed - I need to change the security settings but don't know how to do this

I use Dreamweaver and Adobe Bridge to create slide shows on my website. When 'previewing' the slideshow - in Dreamweaver it opens Firefox - it crashed and the dialogue box opens telling me to change my 'settings' - it doesn't do this if I preview in IE - which I don't understand. I need help in knowing where to go to change the security settings so that this doesn't happen. Incidentally, when I am on the web through Firefox, my website slideshows work perfectly>

You can set the pref dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs to to -1 on the about:config page to disable the timeout.
    See also http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

  • Dreamweaver CC 2014 Sync Settings does not appear to work for me...

I synced all of the settings from one computer to the cloud with all options checked.
Then when I import those settings on another computer that I installed dreamweaver on, it appears as though nothing is coming down. Sites info does not come down, my application preferences (code coloring specifically) don't come down.
I am at a total loss...

Here are two screen shots to show you what I am seeing.  The first screen shot shows it allowing me to select (highlighted in blue) my admin user (which is what I am locced in as).  The second screen shot shows it allowing me to select the "Guest" user (highlighted in blue).  However when I click on the user "Orion" nothing happens.  It will not change to highlight that user.

  • Dreamweaver altered my browser settings

Hello, I was editing a new template and doing fine until
SOMETHING in dreamweaver altered my browser settings and now when
you click on ' view page" in IE browser I have lost the scroll bar
and can no longer access half of my page. ITS GONE. I have gone
over the code dozens of times, I even downloaded a new template and
still I cannot get the scrollbar to show.
I have tried to work on this for a week contacting the
template people and my hosting. While I was working on another page
I put my cursor over an area on my page where some of the borders
were.... just looking around at different areas but NOT altering
ANYTHING. When I went to close that page a notice came up from
DREAMWEAVER that ' Settings for the browser had been altered did I
want to save them?" SEEING THIS ALARMED ME that this may be the
problem so I said NO and the page was okay. However this may have
been what happed on my index.html page. Even tho I didnt type or
edit ANYTHING on the page at the time. I was moving the cursor

THIS MAY HAVE BEEN WHAT ALTERED MY PAGE and now I cant see '
half of my index.html page and there is no scroll bar.
PLEASE HELP I have gone everywhere to get some help

If you can't see half of your page, it's probably in your
    code. Sounds like
a tag of somesort hasn't been closed.
As Ade said, post a link to your page, or put the page
    through the validator
    http://validator.w3.org/ this
    may pick up your problem.

  • Site definition settings on FTP use in Dreamweaver CS4

I work on a MackBook Pro, Mavericks OS, with Dreamweaver CS4. In filling in my settings in Site Definition dialog for local site and remote site, sometimes doing a Test I get the message that I am connected, but when I try to upload through Put arrow in Files Window I get the message "FTP error occurred cannot make connection to host. Your login or password is incorrect. Check your connection information."
I do get the FTP transfer to work sometimes, but then it stops working. I have used a template to set up my pages. Could my settings using the template have something to do with it?

    Definitely not.

It could be because you haven't defined/setup your site.  In DW you always need to define a site before you can do anything.  I suggest read this part 1 tutorial to get the idea.

  • Where can I find my settings file in Dreamweaver CS6?

I was given a brand new computer two days ago by our IT staff.  They were kind enough to load all of my software onto the hard drive.  However, they did not migrate any of my settings over and now I have a problem.  All of my ftp information for my website was on the old hard drive, but I need to have all of that information to set up the new hard drive.
Can anyone point me in the proper direction?
    Ubiquitous information:
    Dreamweaver CS6 v 12.0 Build 5808
    Windows 7 OS
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!!

Without access to the actual DW program that used to be installed, you're going to be stuck manually adding your FTP when you re-create your site definitions for the new installation.

  • Dreamweaver FTP connection settings (CS5)

I am wondering if anyone can help me with my issue I am having. I am running a big website and have been using Dreamweaver CS4 in the past and that worked like a charm so I decided to upgrade to CS5 and some things got weird. When entering in my servers I enter in all of my settings that I had on my past version using ftp then my domain and port 21. I enter in the correct username and password but when it tries to connect it says it fails.
    Any suggestions??
Am I supposed to use sftp now??
    -Tim

Without knowing your FTP login credentials (Don't give them out here of course) it's hard to say. It's more likely a user error.
The best thing to do is login to your hosting provider's control panel and look for your FTP login and campare the info.
    The obvious woud be
User error - missing something when typing in crendtials ex: server, path or no path to dir example htdocs/html/
    password/user login
    Server down try again
    Internet connection down try again

  • Dreamweaver MX 6.1 Deletes Site Settings etc...

    Hey All,
I had a fresh install of XP and Dreamweaver 6.1 recently.
This is the second time Dreamweaver deleted all of my settings for
my sites. Any idea why? I never had this problem before. And no, I
will not upgrade to a higher version.
    Thanks,
    Jay

It has to do with a Windows Registry bug .. I don't think the
    Export feature
on the Site Definitions box was there till DMX 2004, but I
    could be mistaken
about that. I haven't used 6.1 in years.
There is a backup utility for site definitions available ..

  • Copy Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 settings

I want to copy the Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 settings ( FTP log-in to a new PC, I already installed Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 on the new system...

Have a look here http://cookbooks.adobe.com/post_Migrating_Dreamweaver_configuration__site_settings-17658.h tml

  • Dreamweaver 5.5 site settings

Hi, Till some time ago I've used fire ftp for managing files online. They are nicely opening in DW with a number in front of the files name. Then I decided to configure "site's" in DW built in manager. I've configured a remote server it's not working like I hoped.
1.When I open a file form remote server, it's not editable "on line". To do it I have to save that file and then PUT it on the server which is not very productive. Any way to overcome this?
2.How to switch of the prompt "do you want to override local files" and make "yes to all" permanent.
3.Do files edited on-line have any sort of indication that they are "on-line" and not local?
4.Is there any way to export Dreamweaver settings, mostly "sites" settings?

I don't know if it help's but I am using win7 64bit, DW 5.5 newest FF (but it worked also with older versions).
You could try "open with" (from the context menu)-> add program ->insert DW path -> connect to your server -> open with ->select dreamweaver ->edit.
I don't think it has something to do with the server (I am using linux, by the way).
I found this on FireFtp site, hope it helps:
For your local files, sometimes you want to be able to open a file with a different program than the default one. Let's say I have an image file - sometimes I just want to look at it and that defaults to Firefox (what else?!) but sometimes I want to edit it and for that I need Photoshop.
So, I right click on my image file, go to Open With->Add Programs... The associated extension with the file (in this example, ".jpg") will already by listed on the top-left pane. I give my program a name in the Name textbox, in this case, Photoshop. I click "Browse" and find the Photoshop executable file (on Windows, this is usually under the "Program Files" folder somewhere). And optionally I can add Arguments, but for most users and most cases it's enough to leave that box alone. Then I hit "Apply". I'll then see in the top-right pane that my program is now associated with that extension. In a similar manner, if I want a program to be associated with all extensions and all files I can select "*.*" (which will always be there) and add programs to its list.
Now, when I right click the file again and look under "Open With", I will have Photoshop as one of the options - I can select that and the file will open up with Photoshop.
For remote files, selecting Open With will download the file and put you into Remote Edit mode. From here you can work on your file, save it, and FireFTP will automatically upload your file when it detects you've modified the file.
For Mac users: When you create a program entry for Safari, for example, you would think the path to the Application is probably: /Applications/Safari.app
and logically so, because when you browse the directory you aren't allowed to go into the Application's hidden contents. However, this is not the correct path. Right-click on an Application and do "Show Package Contents". The correct path to the Safari application is actually: /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
Not very intuitive, I realize, for you Mac users out there. Maybe in a future version there will be an easier way to access these hidden Application contents.

  • How to retrieve FTP connection settings for live website? [was: Dreamweaver MX question]

We have a website that is live (and hasn't been edited in 5 years), but we cannot update it because the company no longer owns the computer which had Dreamwewaver MX installed on it and thus all the settings are lost.  I downloaded Dreamweaver MX on another computer and have all of the files for the site, but don't know how to "reconnect" this to the live site.  Can someone please advise?

Once you have all your FTP info, you'll create a new, blank site in DW.
Once that is created, you connect via the Files window (little plug in icon) and choose Get (down arrow). That should prompt you with "Download entire site?" to which you should click "Yes".
That will download the entire current site from your server to your computer's HD. From there, you will simply edit the pages locally, test them in the browsers installed using Preview In Browser, and then upload to the website, overwriting the online files.
DW cannot edit files on your server directly, it's designed to work locally, then upload and overwrite files on the server.

  • How to reset Creative Cloud Dreamweaver to default settings?

I have installed Dreamweaver via the Creative Cloud.  I need to reset it to its default settings.

    Thanks for the reply Jon,
I tried those in instructions, but Dreamweaver CC doesn't have the same folder structure. I went into the app folder and found the color preference xml but changing the name didn't do anything based on the cloud sync settings.
I just started playing around with the code color settings, and before you know it I had it all screwed up. Seems silly that there isn't a "set to default button" .
All the documentation sends me to DW 6 or below.

  • Define version control settings ftp in dreamweaver cs6 from cs4

My ftp in dreamweaver cs6 is telling me I need to define version  control settings before it allows me to update or get into files on server. Can someone tell me how I would define version control in dreamweaver cs6 please? Thanks

I was able to get around this by turning off the "Use FTP performance optimization" option under the Site>Server>Basic>More Options area.

  • Transfer Settings Dreamweaver CS3

I would like to know if there is a way to transfer all my
saved settings, (FTP access info, Snippets, etc.), from one
computer to another. I use Dreamweaver CS3 and will be buying a new
computer soon. Is it a simple matter of copying a folder from the
App Data, or is something more involved? Windows Vista 32 Bit
    Thank you.

Hi - thanks for your reply to both of you. At the top level I
have the index.htm. At the same level I have the images folder and
within that all the images. i wanted to attach an image of what I'm
seeing when I look at this page in DW but there is no place to
attach here. I see broken links on all images that come from the
template that the page is based on, but I can see the image that is
in the document itself except one. On that one I noticed there was
a leading slash which when removed the image appeared. I have
experimented with one of the sites (the least important). I have
attached style sheet from new location and that now works. I found
that most of the images were set to site root but were showing
something like ////f:/C... etc as the URL so I reassigned the image
to site root and all the images appeared in DW but not in preview
in browser and then uploaded the whole site and most of the images
did not appear again. I compared the ones that did appear to the
ones that don't and found that any set to site root, even though it
was showing the correct file path, were not showing. Now I have
gone back in to test again and into the template and have changed
one of the images to document so it now is ../images/imagename.jpg
and uploaded and that now works. So does this mean I MUST use the
document path and not the site root path? What is the reason for
using one over the other? What am I doing wrong in the site root
method. The site all sits in a folder created by the host called
public_html but this does not show up in the URL if you visit the
site. In DW it would be set to domainname.co.uk and the host
directory is set to /public_html/ then at next level you have
index.htm and images folder with all the images. When the images
that didn't work were set to site root the properties of the file
location on the server show up as
domainname/public_html/images/imagename - and this should also find
them because that folder does exist. I do not enter the
/public_html/ folder anywhere but in the site definition where it
is listed as 'host directory' because all my files have to sit
within this folder. The images that work and are set to document
show up in properties as domain/images/imagename - so is it the
addition of this public_html folder within the URL of the image
that is causing the problem? If so how can I avoid that if DW is
picking it up from the host directory in site definition? Which is
better to use, site root or document relative? Sorry to be a pain
but before I go through any more pages and sites making the changes
I want to make sure I'm making the right changes with your
guidance. many thanks for your help. You can check what I'm going
on about at www.willowlane.org.uk where I have left the missing
images for now. many thanks. Tracy
