Dreamweaver 8 trouble: Is it my laptop that is dying or my external hard drive?

Hello all.
Beginning yesterday, I have not been able to successfully
open files in DW8 on my laptop. I use the Files menu, the one at
the lower right corner of the screen below the CSS menu. When I
click on the file, nothing happens. So I click again and I get an
error message:
Title: rundll32.exe
Message content: The instruction at "0x7c910f29" referenced
memory at "0x00000000", The memory could not be "read".
Here's why I think it's my laptop:
When I use the File menu at the top, left of the screen...DW8
opens every file I ask it to without fault.
Data: I own (the last of this brand that I will ever own) a
2-year-old Dell XPS laptop (bought new, mind you). I have been
warned by friends that the motherboards in this brand has a
tendency to degrade. My friends are professionals who fix computers
for a living. This isn't a rip on the manufacturer. I really need
to know because this is going to necessitate buying a new machine
at a time in which I can not afford to do so. Lately this machine
has been doing funny things, but I need to know from the experts
here if anyone knows the possible root of this problem. I use an
external Seagate 160MB USB hard drive which has served me
flawlessly for almost 2 years.
So...is it my high-dollar laptop, Windows XP or some Freak Of
Nature that is providing me with this nonsense?
Please help...
Many thanks!!!
Sincerely,
Wordman
PS - Other than this, I have enjoyed a continued learning
experience with web design and to date all my XHTML and CSS pass
the W3C validator...which thrills me no end.

  • Laptop no longer can mount my external hard drive

After updating to Mavericks, my laptop no longer can mount my external hard drive. What on earth is going on here and how can I fix this?

The drive is spinning and I was using it the night before I updated my macbook. It is viewable in disk utility but not in finder, and attempts to mount it are thwarted. The problem is literally coincident with updating the mavericks. When I click verify it didn't appear to have any problems but I will retry when I am back at home and report the findings.
It is a Toshiba 1GB external hard drive and has adequate power. Lights are on, etc.
I have not checked on another computer as do not have one available, but that will be my next step.

  • Itunes doesn't sync music that was transferred from an external hard drive

I transferred a song from an external hard drive onto itunes on my laptop. The song plays through itunes on my laptop after I've disconnected the external hard drive, but it won't sync the song to my iPhone. I have a lot of music on that ext. HD and I'd like to listen to it on my iPhone.

    Hi, Alex 58.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try opening iTunes with the external drive connected and sync the music over to the iPhone.  If all media is located on the external drive, iTunes will not sync the requested media to the device without the drive connected.  You may need to remove the sync music preference and reapply it for the media to transfer.

  • HT4927 I have just downloaded iPhoto from the app store. The photo library from my old laptop was backed up on an external hard drive and I retrieved the photos from there.  Now when I open the photos on my new Mac Book Pro, they are small - am I missing

I have just downloaded iPhoto from the app store. The photo library from my old laptop was backed up on an external hard drive and I retrieved the photos from there.  Now when I open the photos on my new Mac Book Pro, they are small - am I missing something?
I am using 10.8.2 Mountain Lion btw

I dragged the Photo library icon from the backup drive on to iPhoto on the laptop
That means you imported one Library to another.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
So the reason you're seeing small photos is because you're seeing the iPhoto thumbnails from the back up library.
    So, what to do?
Do you still have the back up? If so, trash this bunged up library and restore from the back up again. HOw to restore will depend entirely on how you made the back up, but no version of restoring includes importing the library.

  • I do have problem with my apple Tv. I can't play the movies that I have in my external hard drive

Hi to all. I do have a problem with my apple Tv. I can't play the HD movies that I have in my external hard drive which is connenected to my macbook pro. Some of them don't play at all and it's switching off the XBMC, and some of them are just starting for a few seconds and then is getting paused trying to buffering for a long time. The simple avi movies are playing with fewer stops for buffering. What is the problem? Can you help me?

Have you jailbroken your device? If so we cannot help you here

  • Once I upgraded to ML, I'm now finding that my Seagate Free Agent external hard drive is no longer being backed up by Time machine.  Do I have to wait for Seagate to update their drivers for this hard drive?

I tried your suggestion, and it's been giving me the message "Preparing for Backup" for the past 8 hours.  Does this mean TM is backing up my hard drive?  I'll give it a few more hours, but if nothing else happens, I'm not sure what else to do.  I'm not sure if there are any new external hard drives that are compatible with ML yet.

  • I would like to freeze saving to icloud and perhaps transfer some of that data to my own external hard drive.  I don't want to lose anything already stored there, but don't want to purchase anymore cloud space.  How do i accomplish this?

I would like to freeze saving to icloud and perhaps transfer some of that data to my own external hard drive.  I don't want to lose anything already stored there, but don't want to purchase anymore cloud space.  How do i accomplish this?

It seems that saving to iCloud is a default.  My Pages documents automatically save there unless I change to save to destination.  I probably just need help in setting up the cloud.  When I tried to change the setting, though, it told me that if I made the change, all data on icloud would be eliminated and i don't want that.  I would ideally like to save everything on my external HD and not bother with iCloud.  Certainly don't want to buy more storage space.  Thanks for replying so promptly.

  • How do I set up ITunes on Lap so that it downloads to an external hard drive and doesn't eat up space on my laptop?

iTunes was eating up all my hard drive, so I bought an external hard drive
    Question 1:
After I move the iTunes file over to the external hard drive, do I just move the file on my lap top to the trash folder and will that free up space on my hard drive?
    Question 2:
If question 1 is good, the next time I down load a movie or song is there anything I need to do to get it to download to the iTunes folder on my external hard drive?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
    This article will help you.
    1. Yes, you can trash the original folder. If you have a large media library, then yes you should free up a good chunk of space. However, you must also empty the trash. You can't just leave it in the trash or it will take up space.
    2. Once you select the new media folder in iTunes as the article tells you, I believe all new downloaded media will automatically go to that new folder.

  • I back my music and photos from my windows laptop before it broke on a external hard drive . I just got a new mac book can I use the hard drive to put my wave files and JPEG files on to my mac book

My old lap top broke I save all my music what is wave and my pitches is jpeg on external hard drive
the old laptop was a window base laptop
so I got a new mac coming and I been told my hard drive won't won't on the mac and I lose all my photos and music
    any help
    thanks

If your external drive has the right ports, you should be able to plug it up to your Mac and copy over your photos and wav files. You'll probably (I don't know this for sure as it's been a long, long time since I've dealt with wav files) need to convert the wav files to MP3 or some other format (but I would try opening them directly from iTunes, first - wait a second... yes, iTunes will open wav files).
There are only a fixed number of ways that Windows drive can be formatted and a Mac can read (though not necessarily write) them all. So you should have no trouble with that.

  • I recently restored my laptop and also iTunes from an external hard drive, but when I play songs, it says the original file could not be found. How do I locate and fix this?

I recently restored my laptop with Windows 7 and imported my iTunes library from my external hard drive. When I try to play songs, it says it cannot and that the original file could not be located. How do I fix this?

Put the files back where iTunes expects them to be.

  • Laptop no longer recognizing songs in external hard drive.  Only ones in internal hd.  Says file cannot be found and exclamation pt. to left of song.

My laptop no longer recognizes my songs in the external hard drive.  It still plays the ones stored on my internal hd fine.  It's just started doing this.
The song's names still appear in the music library, but when I try to play the song, anexclamation pt. comes up to the left of the title, and it says the file cannot be located.
OS is Windows 7 Home Premium
    Thanks.

Thank you Tal, sounds like a nice resolution of the username difference problem, i will try this as soon as i get home, but are you sure this will not duplicate all the exhisting songs in my library? Most of my songs were renamed/rated and have a "number of times played" number, which does matter in most of my smart-playlists...
    Thank you in advance.
When I tried my suggestion, I had around 3 three separate folders on my computer which had music in them. The music in these folders was dragged and dropped into iTunes when I was adding it onto my iPhone.
I had foolishly moved some of the music from the other folders and into the music/iTunes folder iTunes then showed the exclamation mark beside these tracks and showed the not found or words to that affect window/popup. I then placed the folders (that contain the music) back to their location which there were at when I originally dragged and dropped them into iTunes, after this the exclamation mark and the not found window naturally did not appear anymore.
    I then done the following:
    iTunes 9:
Choose File > Library > Organize Library.
    A message will pop up.
Place a check next to "Consolidate files" and click OK.
After I had done this, all the folders that contained the music that were in the 3 separate folders, were then placed in one folder, which in my case was,
    C:\Users\MY USERNAME\Music\iTunes\My iPhone\iTunes Media\Music
Sometimes (depending on the device) it can be (your username)/music/iTunes/iTunes music

  • How do I import favorites onto a restored system from a backup that I made on an external hard drive before I had exported the favorites?

I have downloaded Firefox to my laptop, which crashed, and could not be restored by my backup software. All files reside on an external hard drive, including Firefox. I had not exported my favorites prior to the crash. How do I import those favorites from the external hard drive?

Favorites or '''bookmarks'''? Firefox can't handle the "favorites" data, you need to restore that data to IE, and then export it in bookmarks.html format which is what Firefox can import.

No you cannot, it doesn't allow that level of customization.

  • How can I import my library that is saved on a  external hard drive but it's not saved on the iTunes media folder?

I need to restore my computer to it's factory settings but I don't want to loose my playlists and my library (windows). I can copy any file from the computer because it's in good working order. All my music it's on a external hard drive, but there's lots of media files that I don't want to sync but need to keep! Any way to do that!?

I think that I didn't explain my self correctly, My iTunes media it's not consolidated. May I consolidate the media on a external drive (X:\). ?
Yes. But consolidate to X:\iTunes\iTunes Media.
The why I'm asking is because the music library (176gb) is way more than the computer drive (C:\). Remember that all the media is on a external hard drive (J:\)
The steps I gave earlier will work to copy the whole library onto the new drive, in the correct layout for future ease of use.
