Dreamweaver and Front Page
This is a simple question. I've been asked to build a site for a friend who wants to be able to edit revise himself. He is PC/Front Page based, I'm Mac/Dreamweaver.Will he be able to access the site and make changes in Front Page? Thanks for any input.
You are twisting the dragon's tail with this idea. I wouldn't recommend you allow your friend to edit the site with Frontpage. Why? For a number of reasons -
Because of the way that FP writes code and implements various program-specific features, you may have difficulty fixing things that he might have broken inadvertantly when you go back with Dreamweaver - UNLESS you are very familiar with HTML and CSS (and javascript)
Because of the way that FP wants to up/download files (using http protocols), if you upload any files to the site using Dreamweaver (with FTP) you may well "BREAK" any functionality he might have added to the pages
Allowing anyone to touch a carefully crafted site with FP just gives me serious willies
In summary, I DON'T RECOMMEND YOU PROCEED WITH THIS PLAN.

Dreamweaver CS4 and Front Page
I am rather new to Web design and editing. Currently I have Dreamweaver CS4 installed under Vista 64. Now I need to update a Web site designed in Front Page. What would you recommend as the best way to clean up the old code? Has anyone used the DW extensions (Import Front Page Site Wizard, Cleanup Front Page HTML Sitewide, Publish Web command) for DW MX2004 on Vista 64 bit?
How are you exporting? If you want a working button dirextly from FW with no other coding then export as HTML and images then in Dreamweaver Insert>Image objects>Fireworks HTML
BUT the better way is to make the button with rollovers (images will be placed in frames) export images, be sure current frame only is not checked and export. In Dreamweaver insert button then use the swap image behavior for the rollover. When you exported from Fireworks the rollover image is appended with the number 2. -
My web site is in front page and has not been updated recently because of that. I would like to convert to Dreamweaver. I understand all the inconsistencies with Front Page and realize I can't just do a import. I just want to have roughly the same thing in Dreamweaver; a simple page with navigation bars.
I have been searching in vain trying to find how-to convert-material. For example, the Adobe site has an introduction page "Customizable starter designs for beginners" (probably what I need) but the link takes me to a non-Adobe site discussing CSS.
So I am looking for some get up and go information for Front Page users to allow me to REBUILD the web site (with cut and paste of course) in Dreamweaver.
Thanks,Hi Fred,
In the time that the experts on the forum get back to you, have a look at a similar discussion where this topic has been discussed extensively.

Dreamweaver 8/Front Page editing
A quick question for someone...If I build a basic website in
Dreamweaver 8 and upload it to a server, can it be edited by
someone else with Front Page, whether they download it from the
server or I give them directly the files?I wouldn't dream of combining DW and FP on the same site.
And, if the site
has been built with templates in DW>4, FP won't know what
to do with the
template markup. Also, if you have used DW's Library items,
or Server-side
includes, FP won't know what to do with them either.
It's likely to be a long, slow, train wreck.

Dreamweaver and dynamic pages {subject line edited and truncated by moderator}
I want to create a page that will automatically load info from a existing database into preset area's like a clients name and previous purchases. Can Dreamweaver do this? and How?
Assuming you're using MySql databases with PHP scripts, start your journey here:
Get one of the following local testing servers for your OS and follow the installation instructions.

Is there a way to import existing front page website to expression web?
My Husband can't do any programming. He can do his website with his old FrontPage only.
However we now have Windows 7 on a new 64 bit system and front page 2000 isn't working properly.
Is there any way to import his Front Page web into Expression Web easily? Or is there a later version of Front Page that would work on Windows 7 64 bit? What you do is make a copy of your current website. Then make sure that you are not using any shared borders. Be aware that the only webbot still supported in "include files" because EW will handle that in the local copy and update the contents
when you save then publish pages. If you are using FPSE to publish you may want to find out how to use FTP because if your host hasn't already discontinued them they will be doing so since they were discontinued in 2005.
Once you have made sure that you aren't using shared borders make another copy on flash drive, usb, dvd or home network to your new computer. Then simply open the folder you have copied using Site > Open Site and navigating to the location of the website
folder. You can then enable meta data to keep track of changes. If you husband is used to FrontPage 2000 there will be a learning curve. Had he been using FP 2003 it wouldn't be as great since it supported DWTs. If you go to
http://by-expression.com/page/EW-Video-Basic-Website-tutorial and download the asset file then work along with the tutorial to learn how to use Expression Web. The tutorial was created
with people migrating from FrontPage in mind. It does use version 2 instead of the current v4 but at the basic level the only real difference between the two is in the interface where all site functions have been moved to the Site from the File menu so you
don't do File > New > Website but Site > New Site. There are other tutorials on the site and in the resources sticky at the top of this forum to help in the transition. Frankly, I think EW is easier to use properly than FP was.

Viewing new template in dreamweaver cs3 reverst to front page ??
When i save a new template in Dreamweaver CS3 and then try to preview in IExploer it asks me "do you wnat to open or save this file? when i select either it reverst to my old MS Front Page editor
From their website:
" Adobe Flash (version 8 or higher) is required to edit the

Do you own Flash? Are you familliar with action scripts? If
not, then you
probably want to start with a plain html template and learn
how to code html

Convert Front Page 2003 to Dreamweaver 8
I've done my best to go through the help pages and forums and
only have found import and conversion "extensions" for Dreamweaver
MX to import / convert a Front Page site - but I have Dreamweaver
8. My Front Page site is not to complicated. Just a lot of basic
content with FP shared borders and links:
www.alfredricci.com
(click one link on the home page to see the shared borders
and links)
I have the site on my Mac Book Pro with DW8 on OSX. Please
be so kind to guide me to the best / fastest / most efficient way
to import & convert this without starting from scratch.
Much appreciated,
AlfredBefore doing anything else, take a couple of weeks to
gothrough the DW
tutorials, and also to study HTML and CSS. The more you know
about those,
the easier your transition will be. DW expects alot more from
you than FP
did, and as a result, you may find it much more frustrating
to have the raw
reality of web development staring you in the face rather
than the wizards
of FP.
> Is there a way to convert a Frontpage site into a
> Dreamweaver site
1. I'd define a Dreamweaver site that points to a location on
your hard
drive for the local site's root, and to the current FP site
on the web as
the remote site
2. I'd use Dreamweaver (if your host supports FTP
connections) to download
the remote site to the root of the site you just defined on
the hard drive.
This will pick up all the pages *after* webbot action so that
shared borders
and all are already present in the page HTML. This will also
pick up all of
the server scripting. Note - in the event that you are not
able to connect
using FTP since some FP hosts block that protocol, you will
have to use a
third party 'site copier' like Black Widow, QuadSucker, or
WebCopier, (or
even the DW extension called SiteAssist from WebAssist) to
connect and
download using http protocols. Doing it this way will *not*
retrieve any of
your server-script code, if any (unless you have used the
WebAssist
extension).
3. I'd create a DW template for the pages, that captures the
"shared
border"
effect you had in FP.
4. I'd copy and paste content from each FP pages to a new
template child
page and then save the new child page with an easily
identifiable
nomenclature that is distinct from what was used on the FP
site (since you
are saving the new child pages into the same local site as
the FP pages).
5. When the basic site is completed, I'd upload the new DW
pages to some
staging area/webspace, and by using the browser, I'd verify
that the site
(as it now exists remotely) is complete.
6. Then I'd create a *new* DW site in a new location on the
hard drive, and
connect to and download all the files from the staging site.
7. You can now delete the original FP site from your local
system if you
want.
You now have a complete site (minus any of the FP extension
server-side
code) that has no FP footprint.
If you have used any FP server extension functions on the
original FP site
(form processing, guestbooks, tables of contents, etc.), you
will have to
recreate those functions in DW using 3rd party scripts, or
scripts that you
write yourself.

Howdy Folks,
My Dreamweaver CS6 edits to old Front Page site changes display in preview browser OK …But will NOT display on live server site.
To anyone who can step up to the microphone and speak “solution” I will be much grateful?
Bob MacDonald / VIPpromotionsAre you sure you are uploading the pages to the correct location?
Could you post a screen capture of your expanded files window, showing the remote server and local file structures?
I'm guessing they're not identical and that you may be uploading to a redundant root folder. -

It's much more than not being editable. They will be broken

Technically correct, but woefully understated.

Different values beetween front page and saved data
Hello,
I have problems to saved data correctly. I acquire data with Labview 6.0 and a counter/timer card. These data appear on my front page. But when I save them in a table file, their format is modified, rounded.
For exemple: on my front page values are 20.675 , 21.012 and in my saved file these values are 20.750 and 21.000, even if I checked all the numbers format in the diagram, and declare them in extended precision.
Where is my mistake ?
Thank you for your helpHello shadok,
that's strange :-)
Try this simple example. If this works, then something with your data is wrong...
