Dreamweaver and inDesign hang on launch

I am running Mac OS 10.7.4 and suddenly both Dreamweaver and inDesign hang on start up. Is there any tech support out there that can lead me through this problem?

I would test to see if you get the same behavior in a new account with administrative rights and try deleting the user preferences for these two apps.

  • CS6 Dreamweaver and InDesign quit immediately on startup.

I have installed CS6 Design and Web Premium on a MacBookPro OS10.9.4 that also has CS5 Design and Web Premium installed.  Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, Fireworks and Flash all open without problem. BUT CS6 Dreamweaver and InDesign quit immediately on startup. CS5 programs all still open without problem.

Yes! I beleive this is a bug in the Installer where it leaves ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 8.0 marked read-only, and then InDesign crashes early in the startup process (in the "AdobeBIB" component) when it tries to write its preferences and it fails to do so.
This is a longstanding bug and nobody understands why the installer messes it up.
So the answer is to either trash the above folder, or to hit Cmd-I (File Info) on it in the Finder and make sure it is set to read-write under Sharing and Permissions.
I just got done complaining a lot about this to Adobe, actually, last night. Bugs 3478250, 3478260, 3478263, 3478267, and 3424687.
(Of course, I might be wrong and it could be somethign totally different).
If the above doesn't work, try a new user account on your machine.
Oh, and also, you'll need to hit Cmd-Shift-G in the Finder and type in ~/Library to get to the hidden library folder (though there are other ways).

  • What does CSXS.InDesignPlugin do? AKA how I stopped InDesign hanging on launch.

    Here is the system spec:
    Mac Pro, 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 4GB RAM. Snow Leopard 10.6.8
This is with a fresh install of CS5.5 + running the 7.5.1 patch. It has a volume license applied. We use no third party plugins and I have uninstalled CS4....
So, I've just spent four hours fixing a problem we've been having since recently upgrading to CS5.5. On launching InDesign, it would very quickly reach 100% CPU on one core and be flagged as not responding in activity monitor. It would take around ~70 seconds to reach a usable state. This is not what I had expected.
Having read a lot of people having lag and speed problems with InDesign CS5.5, I've tried all the deleting preferences, setting draw modes, turning thumbnails off etc. I finally got to the point of trying removing and then re-adding the plugins from the folder /Macintosh HD/Applications/InDesign CS5.5/Plug-Ins.
Finally I ended up with only one plugin removed, namely CSXS.InDesignPlugin from the folder /Macintosh HD/Applications/InDesign CS5.5/Plug-Ins/UI. If I leave this out of the folder then InDesign launches in ~4 seconds, which is what I would expect.
    So, my questions are:
    What does CSXS.InDesignPlugin do?
Why does it make launching the application so slow?
Can I just leave it out of the folder, or will bad things happen if I do?
If anybody (particularly someone from Adobe) has any information on this then it would be extremely appreciated.

TL;DR: CSXS.InDesignPlugin seems to add an apparently non essential menu item that I think I can live without.
    Longer version:
OK, I did some further investigating and found the following results:
With CSXS.InDesignPlugin in the Plug-Ins folder, the menu item InDesign > Manage Extensions.. is available in the InDesign menu just above the Preferences menu item.
If I remove CSXS.InDesignPlugin frm the Plug-Ins folder, the menu item InDesign > Manage Extensions.. dissapears.
If I click on the Manage Extensions.. menu item, it launches the application Adobe Extension Manager CS5.5. Interestingly this application gives the option to remove CSXS.InDesignPlugin.
So: It would appear that CSXS.InDesignPlugin adds the Manage Extensions... option to the InDesign menu. The purpose of this menu item is to launch the application Adobe Extension Manager CS5.5 from within InDesign. As I know the location of Adobe Extension Manager CS5.5 should I ever need to launch it, I am concluding that under my circumstances the loss of the Manage Extensions... menu item is acceptable as it has not yet had any observable adverse efects on stability, useability or, most importantly, files output for print.
If anybody knows anything else I would be very interested to hear. I'll post any longer term findings if they ever arise.

  • Upgrading Dreamweaver and Indesign to newer versions

I currrently have Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 on Windows XP. I am purchasing a windows 7 pro 64-bit computer and would like to upgrade to  CC or CS6. Will the files that I have created in these previous (old) versions be able to be opened on the newer versions? If not what do I do?? Any help is appreciated!

Code is code.  You can work with your old HTML & CSS files in CS6 or CC.   Simply tell DW (latest version) where to find them on your hard drive.   Site > New Site.
NOTE:  DW CC uses different Extension files.  Older MXP Extensions will need to be converted to ZXP files.

  • Dreamweaver MX 2004 hangs at start on new Mac Mini OS X 10.5.5

Dreamweaver MX 2004 hangs at start on Brand New Mac Mini OS X
    10.5.5.
Mac Mini is brand new, right out of the box. Fresh OS.
I try to start Dreamweaver, and it hangs, and then the
Problem Report comes up with the attached info. I've uninstalled,
downloaded Dreamweaver and re-installed. Nothing works.
----------------------- Here is the Problem report
    ----------------------

    Thanks for the reply.
I downloaded and installed the update.
I still get the exact same problem, and error report.
I have the exact same problem with Fireworks MX 2004 as well.
After a fresh download and install of the software, clicking on the
application icon just causes it to bounce momentarily in the dock,
and then it crashes and the error log comes up.
I have been able to install Flash CS4 without incident,
though. It works fine, with no problems.
I shouldn't have to do this on a brand new mini right out of
the box, but I'm going to run a restore on it, and then try a fresh
    install once again.

  • IPhoto 9.3 hangs on launch

    Hi,
I have a problem opening iPhoto and I've exhausted every diagnostic measure I can think of.
The problem is that when I launch iPhoto it hangs.
If I open it normally it tells me I need to update my library and presents a dialog with 'cancel' or 'update'. At that point it hangs- I can't click either of the options.
If I open it holding down OPTION then it asks me what library I want to use.... and hangs without letting me select an option.
If I open it holding down CMD-OPTION then it presents me with a set of diagnostic options...and hangs before I can select any of them.
I have tried repairing permissions & verifying the disk- no problems found and still hangs on launch
I have tried removing the plist preference file out of the ~/Library/Preferences folder- still hangs on launch
I have tried deleting the iPhoto 9.3 app from the Apps folder and reinstalling it using the Mac App Store- still hangs on launch.
There's no message in the console about iPhoto crashing. It's obviously not a photo library problem as it crashes before it even opens the library and it can't be the app itself as I've re-downloaded it. I presume something external to iPhoto is having an issue but I have no way of finding out what that is.
Anyone got any good diagnostic steps I can take?

Hi, not sure if your able to help me, but I have the same problem with iPhoto.  I suspect, like u did, it hass something to do with another app.  Mail crashes every time I try and open it too.  alas restarting my mac has not helped.  Any ideas???

  • After download and installation, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro all won't fully launch.

After download and installation, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro all won't fully launch. From the Windows icon pane, I click on the program, it opens the Sign In Required pane, I sign in, it opens the Thank You pane and reverts back to Sign In pane or never opens the program.
Acrobat also keeps giving me a popup to sign in, each time I look at a .pdf file.
I have tried uninstalling Acrobat and then redownloading. It didn't work.

  • After the latest Security Update 2012-001 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) my Adobe Photoshop CS 8, Dreamweaver 8, and InDesign CS programs crash when I try to save a file.

After the latest Security Update 2012-001 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) my Adobe Photoshop CS 8, Dreamweaver 8, and InDesign CS programs crash when I try to save a file. HELP!!!

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 Hangs On Launch

When I attempt to launch Dreamweaver CS6 v 12.1 the application hangs after creating the user interface on Windows 7. One issue I noticed is hanging when updating site cache for a very large PHP site.
I have deleted the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6 folder and the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6 registry entries. However when I relaunch Dreamweaver it still knows about the very large site and begins trying to update the cache. Where is the information about sites stored so that I may delete that entry?
I am not sure this is the problem but it is suspect. What other things can I do to figure out what is causing Dreamweaver to hang on launch? Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

    Hi,
Please take a back up of all your sites (You can export all your sites from manage sites dialog) and delete the following key in regedit.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Common\12.0
Now install 12.1 update and relaunch Dw

  • My Firefox 8 for Mac no longer will launch properly. It opens, and immediately hangs before loading the home page and connecting to any website. Does anyone have any ideas about how to correct this? Thanks!

All I get is a blank home page, along with a spinning beach ball. I cannot open the preferences to try to clear the cache, and must force quit to get out of Firefox. I have tried clearing the cache from the Library, and trashed the preferences file. I uninstalled the application, and reinstalled a newly downloaded application. I have restarted the computer many times, and run the disk utility to repair permissions. Nothing has worked. I have not added or upgraded anything on my computer since Firefox was working just a few days ago. Safari works fine connecting to the web. I have read through most of the support documents at Firefox Help, but cannot find anything that addresses this specific problem of hanging immediately after launch.

I have the exact same problem--and it just started around November 11, 2011. I have rebooted, reinstalled, and relaunched many times and Firefox just hangs on launch. Spinning beach ball of death and all that.
I have not installed any new software or changed anything on my computer.

Long story short: Simply get CC for teams. At 500 bucks a year it's a steal and those 5 licenses in the base package (or was it 10 even?) cover all your computers, at least the 3 ones you mentioned. For system requirements refer to the individual product pages.

  • InDesign CS6 and CC hang constantly in Windows 8 x64

Id anyone else experiencing a similar problem? If I do anything at all in InDesign, the application will "hang". I can still move my cursor, it does not crash, I can still see what text block or other item I have selected, but I can't do anything at all with it. Oddly enough, if I press "esc" one time, I will get the frame handles, and I am then able to do whatever I wanted to do with it. If I deselect it, the select something else (or the same item again) it does the same
thing. I get a box around the item, but can't do anything with it. I can't move it, I can't select the text, I can't select anything else. BUT ... if I hit "esc" I get the handles, and can then do what I want. This is extremely annoying. I have both CS6 and CC installed on my desktop here at home, using Creative Cloud. Both versions exhibit the same issue, regardless of file (they all do it, even a brand new document with only one word placed). At work, I have a desktop that is running Windows 7 x64, and they both work fine. The issue seems to only be happening on my desktop here at home, running Windows 8 x64.
Any thoughts would be extremely grateful. Thanks!

Thanks. I periodically check for new drivers and have indeed installed the latest drivers. Last night, just as a check to see if it was a problem with new drivers, I installed an older version of the driver and it still behaved the same, so I reinstalled the newest drivers. I'm going to get with Wacom's support team and see if there is any known issues from their end. Thanks for your response. Double-checked this morning, and the problem does not exist here at my office where I have the nearly identical set up, with the exception of running Win 7 x64 instead of Win 8 x64. Same model tablet, same drivers from June of this year, same file. It seems to be an issue with Wacom, Win 8 and InDesign. I don't have any issues with Illustrator CC, PS CC or LR 5.
