    imovie won't open on mac
what do I do ....  I have clicked force quit as it is unresponsive?
I have shut down computer. Unplugged power for 30 seconds and opened back up still the same problem. Help please!!!

So you don't have the iLife 09 disk either? (Can't remember if that was a separate disk or not).
Hmmm, it'd be better if you had the iLife disk.....
So, first you need to buy Snow Leopard (call Apple, it's the best price there); once you install it, update it to 10.6.8. That will give you the Mac App Store - you need that to buy Mountain Lion (download only, no disks). You will also want to up your RAM memory toa s much as you can - Mountain Lion is somewhat of a memory hog.
If you don't have your iLife disks, then a bootable clone on an external drive is an absolute must have just in case. You should do the first one before you install Snow Leopard just in case. Then, once you're up to 10.6.8 and all your applications are updated 9ncluding iLife, make a new bootable clone before you download/install Mountain Lion. Keep that clone safe just in case you need to revert or something goes wrong (especially if you don't have disks).
Once Mountain Lion is downloaded, first dismiss the installer and find it in your Applications folder. Make a copy of it and put it in a safe place (so you don't need to download it again). Then begin installing; when finished, run Software Update. Hopefully, your iMovie will be updated to the latest version. At that point, I'd make another clone and keep that one updated.
Having said all that, I'm not sure about iMovie not responding now - since you don't have disks, you can't reinstall it, so I don't know if upgrading will work. Normally one should take care of any problems before upgrading, but unless you want to buy a retail iLife 09 or 11 (which is still available online here and there), there isn't much you can do about installing.

Adobe Illustrator CS6 won't open in Mac 10.10 without Java SE 6 Runtime. Where do I get it.
I went to Jave and downloaded the latest version of Java 8 Update 31 for Mac, but it still won't open.

    dchasin,
You may be able to get round the legacy JAVA requirement as follows:
Create empty folders at “/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk” and “/System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle”, to make Illustrator use Jave SE 8 as it should.
The solution was presented by Kals in post #7 here:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1637908
    Here are download sites:
    Win:

    Mac:

Some have found that the page may turn up blank to start with, so it may be necessary to reload the page.
Others have found that it may depend on browser. Specifically, a switch from Safari has solved it in one case.

  • Dreamweaver MX won't open mac 10.4.8

I just installed dreamweaver mx (education version) and the
hotfix and dreamweaver bounces in my dock for a moment, then a
splash screen shows up for a second then disappears and dreamweaver
won't open. The other applications in the MX suite (flash,
    fireworks, etc) open just fine.
If i have the hotfix and have uninstalled and reinstalled,
are there any other ways to fix this?
I should also mention I am using a macbook pro.

Michael, my guess is that you've installed a third party utility to modify the OS in some way, and it's broken. We've seen, for example, people who installed utilities that were supposed to improve network operation unable to get reliable network connections as a result.
There's a utility that can remove unnecessary components from the OS. Unless used with caution, it can kill Rosetta.
Haxies can break after an OS update. That's not Apple's fault, and it's a reason I don't install haxies such as Shape Shifter, for example.
Does this happen with other PPC applications that have to run under Rosetta?
What to do: If you've installed third party utilities that modify OS functions, remove them one at a time and restart. Try Entourage after each restart.
BTW I don't suspect smcFanControl as the culprit.

Hi, pmajor. Welcome to the Adobe user-to-user forums!
I noticed that your error report indicates that you are using build 4909 of Dreamweaver CS5, which is the release version. There have been some updates since, so I would suggest that you install the latest, 11.0.4 (build 4993), and then see if the problem persists.
You can get the latest update by going to Help > Updates in Dreamweaver, or by downloading it from the following page and then installing it: http://adobe.ly/DWUpdates

  • Dreamweaver CC Won't Open Files

I'm a DW newbie, and I just installed DW CC after getting a CC subscription. Upon opening up DW, I discovered that it won't open any locally saved HTML files; the interface will flash for a millisecond, as if the file is about to open, but then...nothing. This happens whether I use the File...Open command, double click a file in the Finder (with DW defined as the default program for opening HTML files), or define a site in DW and double click a file in the Files panel. I've uninstalled (including Preferences) and reinstalled the program a couple of times, but it still doesn't work, and I have the necessary specs that are defined for DW's System Requirements (including the latest version of Java installed). I've noticed some users have had the same or similar problems with earlier versions of the program, but couldn't find a definitive "fix" anywhere. I'm running DW CC 13.2 on Mac OS 10.7.5
    HELP!!

    Hi Nancy,
Thank you for your time and patience following this issue up with me.
I won't try to create a new Mac User Account though.
The following answer is not to you, rather to the team @ Adobe.
I have nothing "bizarre" or "unusual", all other Creative Cloud software works just fine. Adobe is the one who should be taking the time to sort this out, not me.
It really amazes me that I have a paid subscription and "all of a sudden" I am working with multiple scenarios, deleting or renaming files when all I want is to receive the product/service that Adobe agreed to charge and offer
    to me.
I already moved to Coda, not using Dreamweaver anymore. I don't have time to debug other people's software.
    Thank you

  • CS6 Dreamweaver software won't open, how do I solve this problem?

I have CS6 (not cloud) installed on my computer, I use Photoshop and Illustrator regularly with no problems.  I recently got a freelance job that requires me to use Dreamweaver.  I've used it in the past but it's been some time since I've opened the program.  Recently I've tried to launch CS6 Dreamweaver and the Application won't open, but my Illustrator and Photoshop programs open just fine.  I tried to update my software through the Adobe Application Manager but its claiming that the update has failed and cannot be applied.  Is there a reason my applications are not working properly?

If you have turned on your hidden folders (which is necessary in both PC and Mac to see the folders at the correct locations) and they don't exist, a full reinstall is going to be the only thing that will get you going most likely.
Use the cleaner tool reinstallation steps available here: Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Mac won't open non-Mac software

I turned on my desktop Mac this morning and none of my non-Mac applications (Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, InDesign, Cyberduck, etc.) would open. The Mac applications -  Mail, iChat, Preview - work normally, but not Safari. I re-started the computer several times and they still won't open. The icons bounced up and down for a long time, then stayed still but the light under the icon that indicates the application is open was not on.  When I opened the "Force Quit Applications" window to force quit the applications, some of them (Photoshop and InDesign) showed as open, while the others (Microsoft Office and Internet browsers) showed as "not responding". I don't know what is happening - everything was fine when I last used the computer.
So far, I have tried repairing the permissions using Disk Utilities, which did not help.  Any idea on how to fix this will be very much appreciated.
    Mac OSX 10.7.5.

Thank you, sanjampet and a brody. I reset the SMC but it didn't work. And I don't have Mackeeper. I also tried resetting the PRAM and did a few other things (throwing out preferences, etc.) but none worked. At the end, I decided to re-install the operating system using OS X Internet Recovery. It took about 7 hours but it solved the problems!  After re-installation, I was able to open all non-Apple applications without any problems. In fact, they seem to open a little faster than before. I wonder if the re-installed OS came with patches that fixed the problems. It did ask to download a java script when I opened InDesign.
@a brody; thanks for setting me straight about Apple vs. Mac. I was pretty distraught yesterday (lost a full day of important designing work) and wasn't thinking clearly ...

  • Pdf files won't open on Mac

I have a Mac, OS X, 10.9.4.  I recently downloaded the newest version of Adobe Reader 11.0.09 and installed it.  I left my computer before the installation was completed, and it turns out it wanted me to close Firefox.  I did, but it was the next day.  The installation finished, but maybe a little weirdly -- I don't remember.  Now, certain .pdf files (that I have opened many times in the past) won't open.  The adobe page opens, with the filename at the top, and the page blank below, then the page disappears after a couple of seconds.  Some .pdf files open fine.  All files will open with Preview.  I think I need to reinstall Adobe Reader, but don't know how.  If I try to download and install, it says my version is up-to-date.  Please help.

Removing Adobe Reader XI basic files from Mac OS X
*Note: These steps are for a machine that ONLY has Adobe Reader installed.
    1.  In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu item (Command + Shift + G)
    2.  Type this:  /Applications/
    3.  Select the Adobe Reader application
    4.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the Adobe Reader application and select "Move to Trash"
    5. In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu item (Command + Shift + G)
    6. Type this:  /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    7.  Select the file "AdobePDFViewer.plugin"
    8.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the "AdobePDFViewer.plugin" and select "Move to Trash"
    9.  In the authentication window with the text "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this", provide your administrator password.
    10.  Select the file "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin"
    11.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin" and select "Move to Trash"
    12.  In the authentication window with the text "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this", provide your administrator password.
    13.  In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu item (Command + Shift + G)
    14.  Type this:  /Users/[YOUR_USERNAME]/Library/Preferences/
    15.  Select the file "com.adobe.Reader.plist"
    16.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the "com.adobe.Reader.plist" and select "Move to Trash"
** This gets rid of the BASIC items that Adobe Reader installs.  There are other files that can be removed and I'll put them  in after this notation, but this should be sufficient. Reboot the machine at this point to make sure everything is cleared from memory and then download the Adobe Reader installer.
    Good Luck!
If you want to completely remove Adobe Reader and the user specific files then proceed with this caveat and warning:
    ***WARNING***
THESE NEXT STEPS WILL REMOVE ALL PREVIOUS ADOBE READER AND ADOBE ACROBAT USER SPECIFIC PREFERENCES INCLUDING DIGITAL SIGNATURE CERTIFICATES, SEQUENCES, JAVASCRIPTS, ACTIONS, SHARED REVIEW ENTRIES IN THE TRACKER, CUSTOM STAMPS AND MORE.  IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT REMOVING THIS FILES DO NOT PROCEED.
    ***WARNING***
17 .  In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu item (Command + Shift + G)
    18.  Type this: /Users/[YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/
    19.  Select the folder "Acrobat"
    20.  Control + Click or Right-Mouse Click the "Acrobat" and select "Move to Trash"

  • Dreamweaver CS5 won't open any files from a project

    Hi,
I'm working on a simple website. I work on it from 2 different locations (home and work), and the files are stored on a removable USB disk. The problem is that for some reason Dreamweaver won't open any files made on the other computer. It shows the sitemap, eveything. But when I click on a file, nothing happens.
I've tried a couple of things:
    1. recreate the site in the site manager - still the same problem
    2. remove the preference folder - still the same problem
The only solution is that I have to copy the files to my desktop, recreate the website in the sitemanager and then it works. But only if I copy the files to my desktop, any other location on my HD (not the removable USB disk) simply doesn't work.
Does anybody know why this happens? Or even better, does anybody have a tip of how to workaround this problem?
    thanks!

The D600 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and later - not CS5 unfortunately.

    FREE
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all D600 Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in CS5

  • ITunes 10.5 won't open on Mac

I downloaded the 10.5 update to MacBook but now iTunes won't open at all.  It generates a crash report each time I try to reopen the software.  I've rebooted, downloaded anew and reinstalled.  I haven't tried a full uninstall and reinstall yet, I'm hoping there is a solution short of that.  Thanks.

I am experiencing the same thing this morning on Snow Leopard after Security Update + iTunes 10.5 update + Aperature update. It has completely disabled not only iTunes, but also Skype, Adium, and Google Chrome. My Mac is pretty much unable to communicate with the outside world as a result of this. Can anyone help?

  • Why won't iTunes won't open on mac mini?

Recently installed 2 gigs memory in my 2007 mac mini, wiped the hard drive, and installed OS x 10.6.4.( done at the apple store ) iTunes icon appears in applications but won't open when clicked. Help. I'm an old guy and not very computer savvy

You do not have to load the airport utility.. a newer version is already included on the computer.
Just go to the applications / utility directory and start airport utility.
