Dreamweaver CS2 stopped putting files

Dreamweaver CS2 (Toshiba, XP Home) stopped putting files
using either up-arrow or Ctrl+Shift+U put command. After both
repair, then uninstall-reinstall, same symptoms. Deleting or
renaming remote file on server in side-by-side view, followed by
drag-drop of modified file does upload, but any attempt to upload
with overwrite is failing...without error message. The dialog
appears, disappears normally...but nothing happened on the server
(godaddy...they checked their end to be sure). Referring to common
HTML, JS text files, etc.
Suggestions anyone?
Thanks, Doug ([email protected])

It's a common problem that people run into with FTP issues.
Unfortunately, rather than walking someone through the steps it is
easier just to point point people to the KB articles they need
because sometimes files or preferences get corrupted and they just
need to be fixed which was obviously the case that there was an
issue with the site preferences not working.

  • Mac CS5 Dreamweaver won't put files

Just bought new mac, and CS5 Suite...
Exported PC site info(CS4), moved all files over, logs in to site fine, and edits files etc fine, connects to remote FTP, can download files, yet get permission errors when trying to put anything... pc still no problem... All settings are the same as far as I can see.. what could I be missing here on setup? Any ideas? I dont have contribute on or syncing or anything... static pages, nothing dynamic, just html & images.

The Host Directory is blank, thus the root, which is working fine on the PC.
As far as I can see even thought they format the content in different locations seems all the settings are the same, and since I exported/imported the settings, they should be identical.
    CS5.5 v11.5 Build 5344
Also noticed this seems to be site specific as other sites work, yet this one does not... keep getting permission errors... have tried changing permissions to various choices, still no luck.. and again works with the permissions they already have on PC so makes no sense that is it.

  • Dreamweaver will not put file to ftp

I have identified the site in management tools, entered the ftp info, user, password, etc. and tested the connection, which went through successfully. When I edit an html page and upload it does not go through. I'm stumped!

I had not identified the root folder on the remote server. All set!

  • Simple question: Where can I set dreamweaver to auto put files on save?

I know I have seen this on other peoples computers that have
CS3 and I would like to do that at work but I cannot find where to
set that up. It is very sweet in situations where I'm testing code
and continually uploading to a server to do so.

that option is found in the Remote Info of your site
    definition.
however, most people here would strongly advise against doing
    that.

  • How to stop my Preview button from auto putting files to the server?

Hi, I just had a tech guy to my house helping me with dreamweaver and when he left my program is working differently.  It did not automatically put files when I previewed them.  Now I can't preview anything without it putting the file to the server.  I created a contact form as a php file.  Could that have anything to do with this change?  I appreciate your assistance!

Hi, I actually had to turn off the test button to the server to stop it.  In preferences nothing was changed.  I have checked "prompt on put" and "prompt on get".
It only stops putting my files while I have the testing unchecked.  Thanks for your reply.  I really appreciate it.

  • DREAMWEAVER putting files in wrong folder

Our webhost ATT made a big server switch. I've made all the changes required to point Dreamweaver in the right direction, but the files I try to "put" on our website are going to a hidden folder and not on the active site. I've spent loads of time talking to ATT tech support and they say that the changes need to be made in Dreamweaver. I know enough about Dreamweaver to change and 'put' files on our site. HELP!  This folder has to be updated frequently as we sell tickets for performances online.

OK, I think that still used the CS4 style menus...
    1. Verify you have your site definition open. From the Files window (F8 if it's not open) in DW, make sure you have the site name showing in the left hand drop down and Local View in the right hand menu at the top. Below those will be your toolbar starting with Connect and ending with Expand. Below that will be all of your site files, which should look something like...
Where your site should say something like...
Site - YourAwesomeSite (whatever you named your site in DW)
         -htdocs
              -index.html
              +css
              +fonts
              +pages
              etc...
              etc...
    2. If your site looks like the YourAwesomeSite example above, where everything shows up under the htdocs folder, all you need to do is click and drag the files out of htdocs and drop them on the MyAwesomeSite level. DW will ask you to update links, click Update or Yes. Delete the now empty htdocs folder.
    3. Test the pages
    4. If everything is working in Preview, Go to your settings: Site > Manage Sites > click the site you are working on > Edit
    5. Under the Advanced tab, click Remote Info and make sure /public is in your Host Directory (it might also be called Root Directory or Server Root maybe). If you had to add it, click Apply or Save or Done, whichever one is there. Close the settings window and the Manage Sites Dialogue
    6. Click the Expand button in the Files window. That will make it take up the whole screen and place your remote view on one side and local on the other.
    7. Hit connect. If everything is set up correctly, you should only see the public folder and its contents on the Remote View side. If you see anything else at the top of the file list for remote view, your FTP info is not set up correctly.
    8. If you are seeing the public folder and its contents only, go ahead and click Put to put the entire site to that folder.
    That should do it.

  • How to stop php file opening in Dreamweaver

    Hi,
I have never used Dreamweaver and I am not using it at present, but after installing Xampp on my PC, the php files open in Dreamweaver. The pages are blank so cannot even be modified.  Is there a way I can stop these files opening in Dreamweaver?
    Any advise would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    je543

Dreamweaver cannot open files if it is not installed.  Be sure to check the Windows programs or Applications folder on a Mac.  You can also run the Adobe Clean Script to remove all remnants of Adobe programs on your computer.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Alternatively you can always right click on a file in Windows or on a Mac and choose the associated program and change all files.  By default those files will open in a text editor unless an HTML editor is around.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Blank Page After Putting File To Server

After putting a shtml file to the server it is blank on the server side. I've tested it from another PC with Dreamweaver same version & setup and it works fine so I assume it's not the server. The file is correct on the local site side but server side is blank yet file size is the same. If I did a sync and had it do the dependant files it seemed to work once then wouldn't work again. If I FTP to the server and drop the file all is fine. I deleted the local user profile and created it and it worked once. I uninstalled Dreamweaver and re-installed it and get the same problem. I exported the site then imported it to a different computer and all is fine on that computer. Not sure what to do

    <<
Sounds like a strange problem, but take it a step at a time to sort it out. -- Thanks!
First, SSIs only work when the file is viewed with the browser. In the process of getting the file for the user, the server (if it is set up to handle SSIs) will then insert the contents of the included file before it ships the whole thing off to the user's browser. -- Not sure why you're mentioning SSI's
Viewing files on the remote - I assume with FTP and a text editor? - proves nothing. -- I think you're wrong, Viewing a file after the transfer and comparing the local version and the server version does prove there is an issue if they are not exactly the same since they should be
What browser/version are you using? Have you tried other browsers? -- Browser/version is irrelivant since the file on the server side is truely BLANK after you click PUT in dreamweaver and it suposidly "sends" the file
    >>
Sorry if I'm not explaining it well.. Let me try again..
Websites all setup and working. index.shtml happens to be setup as the main index file and was working perfectly (had been for a few years)
After a computer was imaged over the summer with a default image, CS3 was installed again. The Site was setup and the user connected to the site, then modified the index.shtml file. After saving the file they clicked PUT and sent it to the server. It seemed to flash quick and not truely send it like it use to. Use to take a second or two not a close to instant flash. After this happens the page is blank. Here's what I did to dig into and see what I could find.
Exported the Site , Imported to another computer that had the same image and had CS3 installed (same as the one having a problem)
Modified the index file and saved then put it. Worked no problems. Ran that test a few times. No problem.
Back to the problem computer. Made a change saved/put the file , blank again. Used Filezilla. Downloaded the recently put file to my desktop and opened it. Completely Blank. (I opened with a txt view and even opened with Dreamweaver) I checked the index file on the problem computer in the local folder it is in. Everything is there and perfect.

  • Finder has stopped putting my folders and files in alpha order.  What happened?

Finder has stopped putting my folders and files in alpha order.  What has happened?

When you check and reset that file setting back to alphabetical order, does it stick?
Sometimes a user permissions issue may cause a slight problem, so if this is the
only issue, you could try to 'repair disk permissions' in Disk Utility, However if there
is some other problem and this is only a symptom, something else may be the cause.
If files have been moved between user accounts, then previous account settings &
user permissions may be included with the moved file, so this matter may require
you to look into the settings within each file, via Get Info on the highlighted file name.
You can change permissions and privileges to some extent within this area.
And at times, a simple restart may be required, if the unit has been on awhile. Given
a portable computer, unlike a desktop, your use may not include leaving it on for
months at a time; so it probably has been restarted more than occasionally. Mine,
set to automatically sleep & spin-down the HDD when not in use, is up for months.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • An FTP error occurred - cannot put [file name.htm]. Dreamweaver encountered an internal data error

I get the message “Server not responding” whenever trying to add files to my web site via DW. The following message appears: "An FTP error occurred - cannot put [file name.htm]. Dreamweaver encountered an internal data error. Please try the operation again."
I called the hosting service provider, and they said they were able to upload a 20 mb document with no problem. I was also able to upload a document using Filezilla.
Therefore, the problem must be with DW.
When I go to Manage Sites and choose my site and get to the Test Connection button, the test is successful, which further confuses the issue.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Does this help?
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/861606
    Also check the log:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/937231
It is possible it is a host issue but because they use a higher level account to test that they do not see the error.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 vs CS5 putting files

I have both versions installed on my computer. I can put files in CS4 to the server. When I close out of CS4 and use CS5 it (CS5) will not put a file to the server. I can do the test fine and it connects. I have copied all the settings and they are the same. I am useing the ip address of the server. I have disabled the firewall and have tried all settings for FTP type. Then when I go back to CS4 with my  firewall turned on the connection works fine I can up load and download as usual. Is there some type of variation on how the two versions work? Any other idea of what to try?

I deleated the Server from CS5 and then closed the program. Opened the CS4 version exported the settings and then imported into CS5 then tried to put the file and it would not go error message says  "
test.html - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put test.html.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.   Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.
File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.
    Files with errors: 1
    test.html"
So then I go back to CS4 and it works. In between I have deleated the file off the remote server so that it does not have to overwrite the information.  Pretty wierd.

  • Help! Dreamweaver keeps automatically 'putting' my template onto the server every time I save it.

For some reason Dreamweaver keeps automatically 'putting' my template onto the server every time I save it, overwriting the template that was originally on there and I don't know why. It never used to do this and all my other sites work fine and don't have this problem... I don't want it to keep overwriting the files I have on the server... does anyone know how to stop it from doing this please? I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give.
If it helps, I'm using CS4.
    Thanks,
    Catherine.

    Thank you!
For this particular website I only have one template. The website is up and running online, but I'm still working on it, trying to improve it and I'd like to preview before I upload it to the server and alter the other pages. I did have a backup of the template on the server as you said, but because I was experimenting with something in the local copy, the design changed quite a lot, and suddenly it was 'put' automatically (which was something it had never done before) resulting in a loss of the original template. Fortunately I ignored the prompt asking me to update the pages from this template, so the overall design of my live website has remained in tact. I pressed F12 as I always do and instead of taking me to my default browser for live preview, it 'put' the template onto the server. This is what I'd like to avoid doing again.
Thank you for your response! I really appreciate your help.
    Catherine.

  • Why can't I put files up?

I've been building a site on dreamweaver and I have had it up and running for several weeks.  A few days ago I found that I was not able to put files up that I had made changes to.  If I put a new file up, it goes up just fine...but say I make a change to my index.html file and try to put it up to replace the old one, nothing happens.  Dreamweaver says it is putting the file, but the old one is still in place.  This is a new problem; I was able to make changes easily a few days ago.
I know I could just delete the index.html file and then put it up since putting up new files works, but I know this shouldn't be happening and if there is something going on I need to address I'd like to figure out what it is.
The only thing I think it might be is possibly the rss feed script or site map script that I have running on my remote server.  I believe I purchased them and put them up a little over a week ago and they are set to create new files every seven days, so the timing suggests that these scripts may plausibly be involved in this issue.    Aside from that, I have no logical idea why the put action stopped working out of the blue for established files.
    Any suggestions are welcomed!  Thanks!

yes, it is looking like that's just what I'm going to have to do. perhaps i just need to take down the whole site and try again and hope it doesn't happen again.
i tried your suggestion and i was able to see the test page on the remote server.  i'm completely baffled by this.  i might call adobe tomorrow during business hours and see if one of their guys can take a look at it for me.
do you think it's possible that the site map or rss feed scripts i have running on my remote server might somehow be related to this problem? they are set to generate after 7 days and it was about that long after i initially placed them in my remote server that i had this problem.
thanks so much for your assistance, i do appreciate your efforts to help

  • I am connected to my remote server and "put files" but the web page files do not update, whats going on?

I really can't figure this out:
So I use a different computer at school for web design, I bought Dreamweaver to work on it at home, I get the files fine from the server that I uploaded at school but then I make changes at home computer and connect and "put" them and I check online and the web page doesn't change one bit.
I don't have the exact file extensions from the computer at school but when I connect and get I have a similar folder(s) set up and then it downloads them into Dreamweaver file manager box and makes the folders there I downloaded. The site shows up fine in Dreamweaver after I "get" so great I thinking.
But... not so fast, I change the page in Dreamweaver, preview n a browser and look right on so I "put", connect to server and upload. Then I check online an its still the same I uploaded the CSS and HTML and dependent files by dragging over and also using the up arrow "put" as well but nothing changes on the web page online.
What is happening here I am so confused?
Thanks a bunch, I mean I can still preview as I go but I really curious why my "put" files don't change my web page like at all!

Have you tried refreshing the browser, or deleting the browser cache?
