Dreamweaver CS3 FTP problem

Hi,
I am unable to connect to my remote server using my new copy
of Adobe Dreamweaver CS3
When I test the FTP connection I get an error message
I can connect without problems to my remote server using
Microsoft Frontpage and the exact same FTP address, login, and
password - so it is not the server which is at fault
Things I have tried without success
My hosting company told me to either leave the host directory
box blank or put a / in it. Neither of these options work
I have tried retyping my login details carefully.
I have tried checking the ‘use passive FTP’ box
I have tried putting a colon and the port number after the
FTP address
I have tried writing the FTP address with and without the
ftp:// symbol
I have tried setting the FTP time out preferences at 60secs,
30 secs, 120 secs, 10 secs, and 5 secs
I am wondering what else to try, and how I can check whether
or not the software is being blocked by a firewall (in Norton for
example - my windows firewall is switched off) as I do remember
getting a message about this during the install. Or would it be a
good idea to uninstall and reinstall the software?
I would be most grateful for any further information or
advice.
Many thanks
Pippa

> When I test the FTP connection I get an error message
What is the error message?
Here's my experience.
1. A firewall (any firewall, including but not restricted to
SP2) may be
blocking your attempts. It's best to completely disable them
while you are
troubleshooting this.
2. The FTP host field should usually always be filled in like
this -
''www.domain.com'' (without the quotes) and with NO leading
protocol (e.g.,
http:// or ftp://) (of course, you can always
use the IP address, too).
3. Enabling Passive FTP (usually the default for 3rd party
FTP programs) in
your Remote site definition can often be the gating factor in
a balky FTP
connection.
Make sure you use those guidelines and usually your
connection problem will
be solved.
By the way, if you find that #1 allows the connection to
proceed, then you
have to figure out what it is about your firewall that is
blocking
transmissions. CS3 allows you to fine tune firewall support
via the
Remote site definition, but you may also need to do a very
simple thing of
permitting CS3 to make outgoing connections in the Firewall
configuration.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 FTP Error: Cannot make connection to host

I have Windows Vista with a new purchase of Adobe Dreamweaver
CS3 Web Premium. I am a regular Dreamweaver user since version 2.
But this FTP situation still baffles me.
    1. I have set up all my FTP parameters as usual and have
tried to use "Passive FTP" and the "Secure FTP" settings, but to no
    avail
    2. I tried to FTP via explorer and do have access to my
hosting service. The problem lies related to Dreamweaver itself.
    3. I tried to check to see if my Windows Firewall would
affect it, but it is included in the firewall exception list.
I checked the other forum listings related to this problem,
and one of them mentions about the 60 second issue. I also checked
my site preferences and it is set to 60.
I don't want to use Cute FTP. I've been using Dreamweaver for
all these years and found it annoying to get another program just
for this. I am hoping to resolve this issue here on the forums so
that other Dreamweaver CS3 users can use FTP to upload their
    site.

  • Dreamweaver cs3 FTP Fault - Not connecting anymore

    Hi,
I hope someone may know the cause of this wierd problem
My dreamweaver cs3 has just stopped connecting to server for
    any of my sites
(i got over 100 sites and tried quite a few).
My other ftp program external to cwcs3 is fine and continues
    to work. This
using the same connection settings as dwcs3 site profiles.
    Nothing has
changed on my dwcs3 profiles but yestarday I had the daylight
    saving problem
(and last year) where i had to delete the cache file as per
    adobe tech doc.
DW no longer crashing but i think this ftp not connecting is
    only since
    yesterday.
I have also installed the various windows updates that came
    out recently.
The other machines in the office continue to work fine. All
    machines import
the same saved profiles, but if i remove the site profile and
    reimport it
still dosent connect, but repeating this on another machine
    works without a
    problem.
All machines in this floor have Vista Business/ CS3 web suite
    connecting to
a windows 2003 standard ed server running iis and
    iis/microsoft ftp server.
Same result with windows firewall disabled. Only other
    security app is NOD
anti-virus, again all machines are the same.
All i get is an error telling me to try passive etc, but i
    know this isnt
the fault as the other machines with the same settings are
    fine..
here is a copy of the ftp log after trying to connect,
    selecting a file, and
    selecting put.

If i was that anal about cpu overhead, would i be using
    dreamweavers built
in ftp with its feature 100%cpu usage. Even on my core 2
    extreme 9000 cpu!!
Thanks for the links, but everything in them has been ruled
    out. The issue
is clearly not a setting within dw. Its some sort of windows
    firewall
    corruption
Even running wf.msc (advanced win firewall config) provides
    no clues

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Installation Problems

    Hello,
I have just got Dreamweaver CS3 and Photoshop CS3 and have
had some real issues with installing them! Here is my situation
    explained.
    I first installed Dreamweaver CS3 after un-installing a
previous version of Dreamweaver (the one from Macromedia) and it
installed as normal. I then tried to install Photoshop but it only
got as far as 8.46% and would go no further! I did a system restore
and tried installing Photoshop before Dreamweaver and it installed!
I then tried to install Dreamweaver but once the "Adobe Setup" got
to 100% it disappeared and the Installation screen did not appear,
in fact nothing happened! I went in an endless loop of installing
one before the other and have landed and having Photoshop on the
computer and not been able to install Dreamweaver! As I mentioned,
if I don't have Photoshop installed, Dreamweaver will install and
    vice-versa.
I'm thinking it is a conflict problem, but I dunno where to
begin looking. I've cleared the computer of useless files and
registry entries (I use a program called CCleaner) and I also went
    into
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe and did a search for
'dreamweaver' and deleted everything that came up, just so it'd be
    like Dreamweaver was never installed.
I used the CS3 Cleaner because I previously had the PS BETA
but it never worked right and it kept failing when deleting stuff,
so I dunno why that was.
If anyone knows any reason why this is doing it and have any
ways of helping me out, I would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
P.S. I am on Windows Vista Home Premium

You may experiencing the same problem that I had. If you had
a previous Beta installation installed, it may be preventing the
    new installation.

Symptom is that the Photoshop installation gets as far as a

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Uploading Problem

Cannot upload my first Web Page to the Web Site (Host). I
have tested and have received the following message:
"Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 connected to your Web Server
    successfully."
When I PUT Index.html from Local to Remote, I receive the
following error message: "Index.html - error occurred - An FTP
error occurred - cannot put Index.html. Access denied.
I have invested too much dough for a WW2 non-profit
organization for this not to work.
    Thanks in advance.

I tried enabling passive FTP but it doesn't help.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 ftp won't connect

Very unusual ftp problem: Server is MS IIS. I have multiple
Dreamweaver sites defined for this server. Been using them for
years. All sites connect fine except one. The one initially worked.
For the one problem site, clicking the Test button in Remote Info
tab connects just fine. Clicking the Connect button in Files will
time out every time. Using WSFTP to the same site and folder works
just fine. The only difference between this site and the ones that
work is the folder name. They even share the same parent folder.
ftp connection parameters are the same. How can this be?

I solved it myself. It turned out to be a corrupt site
definition in Dreamweaver. By deleting the site, then recreating
it, everything works as it should.

  • DreamWeaver CS3 FTP suddenly stops working

About a week ago DreamWeaver's FTP stopped working, for any
of the 25 plus sites I have set up in it. I control the server I am
trying to FTP to, so I know none of the passwords or anything else
has changed. All of the sites have the same error when trying to
    connect, which is:
"An FTP error occurred - cannot open remote folder
/public_html/. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there
    could be a permission problem."
Well the folder does exist, as nothing has changed. I am able
to FTP fine with other FTP apps including CuteFTP, so I know this
is a DreamWeaver specific problem. I tried reinstalling / repairing
DreamWeaver from disc to no avail.
    Thanks for any help.....

I'd like to chime in too if I may. Dreamweaver is a very
reliable software client but can anyone really backtrack to the
point where ftp puts GUI to shame? Forgive me but I'm stuck using
Dreamweaver as my sole island of hope for all client/ server
transactions.. I'm not even interested in using one of those 'mini'
clients who's functionality do make your head spin! I'm somewhat of
a freestyle learner so maybe that explains why I've never seen the
host-server designated "public" folder renamed as "public_html"???
I don't even think my webhost would let me rename that folder as
    such, I hope that helps!
    Thanks,
    Nate

  • Dreamweaver 8 FTP problem

    Hi,
I have updated from Dreamweaver MX 2004 to Dreamweaver 8.0.2
three days ago. Everything went well with that update.
Dreamweaver 8 has kept my old FTP data so I was able to
connect without problem to my server and work flawlessly with my
files. But today, I thought it could be a good idea to refresh my
FTP data, so I have removed it and build new FTP server data inside
Dreamweaver 8. -- Now I can connect to the server, but I have lost
all my links to my folders, etc. Pictures are not displayed anymore
until I have to write the full path
    http://www.etc.etc/etc to relink
    to my folders.
Do anybody knows why, without having changing the links into
my site, dreamweaver doesn't recognize the relative path that links
to my folder? FYI, every .html, .js and .css files are placed
inside the same root folder, my pictures are placed in sub folders
    in the same root.
    Best Regards

    > After having installed the FTP part,
    > the local preview mode has cut access to almost all my
    files???.
Not possible unless you made some mistake. Did you by chance
    create a
TESTING server as well? I have seen some people duplicate the
    Remote site
settings for the testing server - and that would be a
    problem.

DW8 does allow this approach, but it's a very dangerous mode
    to work in -
particularly if you are not too sure about what DW is doing.

  • Dreamweaver CC - FTP problem to access

I´m having some problems to upload files with my Dreamweaver CC.
Every time I try to upload something to the root of my FTP, I get an error message, meanwhile  I try to upload to a sub-folder I don`t get any.
You may think that it's a FTP permission issue, but I have check with my provider, made some test and it seems that there is not the problem.
But more strange is that I also have Adobe CS5, and with this one I can upload my files to root without any problem. I have checked both configurations and they are exactly the same (obviously same host, user, pass… etc.).
Do you have any idea where could I have the problem?
Thank you very much for your support

Hi. Is there any progress in solving this problem?
    The error message:
    The path inside Xcode:
The SDKs for 7.1 and 7.0 were installed/added from the option Xcode> Preferences> Downloads.

  • CS3 ftp problems

Hi I have a client who wants to use contribute. I set it up
on my computer to test it out.
I was able to edit frm contribute BUT after that when I went
into DW I could not up load any images (even small 1kb .gifs) I
    kept receiving the error:
images:ethernetcable.jpg - error occurred - An FTP error
occurred - cannot put ethernetcable.jpg. Access Denied. The file
may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.
    2column:p7dejavu:img:dj_logo.jpg - same - not transferred
images:opertator3.jpg - error occurred - An FTP error
occurred - cannot put opertator3.jpg. Access Denied. The file may
not exist, or there could be a permission problem.
I tried to remove the contribue access (though I am still
prompted the site is set up for contribue depsite having created a
    new root folder)
I then downloaded another ftp program (cyberduck.ch) I was
able to upload the images to my server outside of dreamweaver but
they are not showing up on my webpage. (when i look at remote
server I can see them in correct folder).
I am totally lost on what to do, my hosting company has no
    clue why this is.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS?????

    thanks for your reply.
I could not see the mm_ notes folders on my server or in my
route folder via dreamweaver but I found them in my route folder
when on my computer through finder. (there was one folder called mm
and one called notes) I moved both to trash but I am still getting
prompt this site is set up for contribute compatibilty and the same
error when I try to upload.
any ideas on what i should do???

  • Dreamweaver Cs3 CSS Problems

Good day, I am having problems using my new version of CS3.
When I am working in split view, or design view for that matter,
any css that I add to the page does not show up when designing the
page. Whether it is inline or attached, I don't see the changes to
the page while working on it. Is there something I need to adjust
in my properties to make this work? I have not had this problem in
Dreamweaver MX 2004. Any and all help would be so helpful. Thank
    you in advance.
    Rob

Hi SnakeEyez, thank you for a prompt reply. I do not have the
page uploaded as I just started working with it. I don't understand
how it would be a code problem if Dreamweaver is adding the code
for me. For example, when I add
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    body {
    background-color: #003333;
    -->
    </style>
the page is still white when designing. Any ideas why this
    is? Thanks.

  • Dreamweaver 8 - FTP Problems

    Hi.
I have a problem with Dreamweaver 8. If I put in some FTP
Sites - they work fine. But everytime I close Dreamweaver, then
start it up next time, the usernames and passwords of the FTP Sites
are deleted. And then I always get the Error "FTP Error occured -
    Connection to host failed...."
I dont know if thats a bug or If I just don't see an option
to turn that off, but I cant seem to find anything and when I
searched google and the forums, I didnt find anything either.
    Thanks for any hep

  • Dreamweaver CS3 FTP Error

Dreamweaver CS on Vista Pro, everything has worked fine for
the last 5 months I have been able to ftp to all my sites. Then
last week I started getting the following when I tried to connect
    to my sites:
    quote:
Operation timed out...canceled...An FTP error occurred -
cannot make connection to host. No response from the server. This
may be due to one or more of the following reasons:
    - Accessing the server requires firewall settings that aren't
properly set. Please verify that the firewall settings in the Site
category of the Preferences dialog box are properly set, and that
the Use Firewall option in the Site definition dialog box is
    selected.
    - The server may be accepting only passive mode or only
active mode. Toggling the "Use Passive FTP" checkbox may help you
    establish a connection.
    I'VE TRIED
    THIS A FEW TIMES
    - If you are connecting to an IPv6 enabled server, please
select "Use IPv6 transfer mode" checkbox in the Advanced site
definition dialog. THIS IS NOT THE CASE AS CONFIRMED BY THE HOST.
    - Your local firewall may be blocking the incoming FTP data.
Please disable it to see if it makes a difference. THIS HAS BEEN
TESTED A FEW TIME WITH NO LUCK.
    - It is possible your FTP may be using a non-standard FTP
port (21). If you need to specify a non-standard port, enter the
port number after host name separated by a colon":". THIS IS NOT
THE CASE AS CONFIRMED BY THE HOST.
I have no problem connecting using CuteFTP and using the
exact same settings as used in Dreamweaver. Also weird is the fact
I would connect to a site, and then come back latter that day and
could no longer reconnect. It was like I was able to only connect
one time with site after this started happening. Now No sites are
able to be accessed through Dreamweaver FTP.
Anyone else experiencing this and/or have a solution?

  • Dreamweaver CS3/Flash problem

Hi everyone, I recently upgraded to Dreaweaver CS3 from 2004
MX. However, I'm having a problem trying to display a Flash banner
    on my website.
My site is www.flaccidsacks.co.uk, you'll notice on the index
page the Flash banner at the top.
However, I updated a couple of pages, and you'll see if you
click on "Record Labels" that the Flash banner doesn't appear. The
source doesn't even appear to have the name of the Flash file.
However, in the Dreamweaver design panel the Flash file is in
the correct position, and it appears fine when I preview it. It
seems though that Dreamweaver is doing something when I publish the
page that's preventing the Flash banner from appearing.
I would be very grateful for anyone who can spare a minute to
    help me.
    Thanks
    Lyle

When you clicked "yes" a folder named Scripts was generated
    in your files.
Upload that folder to the server.
