Dreamweaver CS3 Linking Using Spry Menu Bars
Hello,
Please forgive my noobieness. I used to use Adobe GoLive and
am now transitioning to Dreamweaver.
I have the layout of the website I want using a template
provided by DW with a fixed main content area, header and a footer.
The banner and the horizontal menu bar are at the top. The content
would be displayed below as each button from the menu bar is
clicked. I have followed the directions in the Missing Manual
series but I still seem to have problems.
1. For example. For a button listing Directions. I have it
set to link to the proper .html file called Directions.html. This
was set using the Spry Properties. Same for Home and a pricing
menu. However when I run it using Firefox it opens a new tab and
displays the chosen content there rather than in the existing page
where the menu bar is located. In IE I cannot even get the page to
jump to any place else. I dont here the clicking noise or even some
kind of recognition that is trying to load the chosen page.
I see a list for target but those have no effect.
2. Secondly. In IE the menu bar drop down works really slow
even when I view other peoples websites that were built using CS3.
In Firefox it seems to work fine.
Any suggestions would be great and appreciated. Attached is
som code.
Hi Peter,
only to show you my impressions.
1. FF:
2. IE8:
There is no "failing".?

HOW DO I USE 'SPRY MENU BAR?'
Please i need an indept explanation of how to use spry to create menu bars to my satisfaction. Your useful information shall be highly appreciation. Thanks!
Spry menus have been deprecated and, if you are using an older version of Spry, it will not work on Mobile!
So don't.
You can do drop-down menus with rollover effects and everything simply by using straight HTML and CSS. You do have to know HTML and CSS though. Another great way to simply use a plugin is to go to Project Seven and buy their system (there are others out there, but the guys at PVII are particularly crafty and their menu systems work with all browsers, including the really bad Microsoft ones).
Here is a link to a tutorial that will show you how to do a straight HTML and CSS3 dropdown menu yourself. -
Dreamweaver Help | Working with the Spry Menu Bar widget
This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/using/spry-menu-bar-widget.html
Adobe has discontinued further Spry development.
http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2012/08/update-on-adobe-spry-framework-availability.htm l
You can continue using Spry but if mobile & tablets are your concern, I would use a different menu system.

Spry Menu Bar Editing Links PLEASE HELP
Ok I am a new user and this is my first site and I have a question regarding creating links in the spry menu bar.
I created my home page with a spry menu bar and I have begun creating pages to link to my home page.
My question is when I navigate to another page from my home page my spry menu bar on the second page does not have the links set for the spry menu. Do I have to input all the links again on each additional page or is there an easier way to copy from my home page.
I am creating an online store and my homepage menu bar has over thirty links to products pages. Each page has the original banner and spry menu bar from my home page but the links arent set on any of the products pages. Do I have to go into each one of my thirty pages and create the thirty links to the other pages? and if that is the case what if I want to change or add additional links to the home page for new products launching? Do I have to update the links and spry menu bar on all of the additional pages as well?
If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Any answer would be helpful even if its not the one I want.If you're not using DW Templates to spawn site pages or Server-Side Includes for sitewide menus, you definitely must edit each menu on each page and upload to your server. Tedious.
Server-Side Includes are a huge time saver. Learn to use them.

What replaces the CS6 spry menu bar in dreamweaver creative cloud 2014?
Hi,
Previously I used Dreamweaver CS6 and the spry menu bar widget (horizontal). I do not see this in Dreamweaver CC 2014. I am looking around in the Insert Panel (jQuery UI) but don't think a spry menu bar equivalent is listed.
Is there such an equivalent built into Dreamweaver CC 2014?Basic CSS drop-menu

Spry Menu Bar Advanced Styling Question
Hello all,
I am using Spry Menu Bars for the first time and have checked
out most of the online documentation. I have gone into the CSS file
to customize much of the look of my first menu using the
documentation I could find.
I would like to do the following, but can't seem to find the
CSS code bits to do it:
1. Change the height (not width) of my top menu trigger item
-- it has created some unwanted padding.
2. Change the width of my submenu independently of the top
menu item -- eliminate cramping and allow for longer text than the
top menu trigger.
3. Change the submenu text color and size independently of
the top menu item text.
Here is a link to my sample navigation bar (only the first
item "Latest News" has a menu):
http://stage.ecdi.com/includes/nav_bar.html
Sorry for the extent of my request, but I have gotten
blurry-eyed looking for posted material that answers my inquiry. I
wish there were an easier way to accomplish complete styling,
considering how popular these menus are.
You guys are the best...
MattHi,
could you have a look here to David's tutorial: http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/sprymenu/customize4.php?
... or this thread (2: gramps) e.g: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/801176#3519178

MattThe reason you don't see a lot here in this forum is because
Adobe created a Spry forum. The first thing I would recommend doing
is updating Spry if you have not done so before:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/
Then you can head over to the Spry forums here:
http://www.adobe.com/go/labs_spry_pr1_forum
To answer your question though, everything you want to edit
is in the CSS document in the SpryAssets folder. All of the
attributes are defined in there. -
Vertical spacing spry menu bar
I have a Spry vertical menu bar-CS3. What spry menu bar rule do i change to increase vertical space between items? And what property do I make the adjustment in? Thanks. I messed up the default spacing some how and am not sure how get back to default which provided more vertical space between items.
Thanks. DonnaYou forgot a linl to your page online

Question: My spry menu bar is not displaying correctly in Dreamweaver
Hello,
I am new to Dreamweaver CS5, so coding isn't my area of expertise. My problem with my spry menu bar is that it does not display the tabs on the menu bar correctly. When I try to apply new changes to the CSS of the horizontal menu bar, half of the tabs will change and the other half will not. Also, I am unable to drag and move the menu bar itself around, a function that I was once able to do before. At times, only one tab of the menu bar will display itself, without any of the other tabs as well.
I have a hunch that my problems stem from some coding errors in the SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css, and possibly in the SpryMenuBar.js. On the CSS Styles panel, my SpryMenuBarHorizontal.CSS list reads as follows:
I also have a hunch that something about this line-up is also incorrect, but I don't exactly know what the problem is.
Here is what my coding for my SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css looks like right now:

And here is what my SpryMenuBar.js coding looks like right now too:
SpryMenuBar.js
This file handles the JavaScript for Spry Menu Bar. You should have no need
to edit this file. Some highlights of the MenuBar object is that timers are
used to keep submenus from showing up until the user has hovered over the parent
menu item for some time, as well as a timer for when they leave a submenu to keep
showing that submenu until the timer fires.

If anyone could possibly steer me on the right direction with this, I'd be very grateful! I've been struggling with this for about a month now and I feel like I may have only made the situation worse.
I'm not sure if I have to keep making a new spry assets folder in my website or not or if I have to drag and drop the spry assets into the root folder. I have restarted my website over at least a dozen times by now. I have tried changing folders, dragging and dropping various spry assets folders everywhere and I have also uninstalled and reinstalled my copy of Dreamweaver CS5 in the hopes of getting my spry horizontal menu bar to act normal. I am completely new at Dreamweaver and I really, really need some help with this.
Thanks!I haven't been able to get my site posted up yet. Here is a link to it anyway:andrearosales.com
I will be working on connecting my files up to my server. At the moment, here are some screen shots of some messages that I am getting when I am saving my file.
I'm not sure what to make of these messages. I tried to put a new spry horizontal menu bar on my main page, and when it appeared, it displayed as a spry vertical menu bar.
Here is a picture of what it looks like:
I"m going to refer to the links that were suggested to me though. I'm not sure if pictures of the code will help to solve my problem. I'm going to try again to connect my files to my server though. -
Spry Menu Bar Colors and Pictures in Dreamweaver
I'm having some trouble changing the color of the spry menu
bars that I created in Dreamweaver. Whenever I preview them in a
browser they show up as grey with black text. What I want them to
show up as is blue with white text before the mouse goes over them
and highlights them. When the mouse goes over them I want them to
still be blue with white text and also my drop down menu options as
well.
What would be the fastest and easiest way to do this and if
there is what css code is required for me to change? I'm unfamiliar
with how css code works.
I'm also having some problems with copying and pasting
pictures and editing them too. what software can i download that is
free that i can use to edit my pictures.
I have the trial version mind you and I'm trying to get this
finished as fast as I can.> What would be the fastest and easiest way to do this and

Bring up your page and adjust the CSS in the
SpryMenuHorizontal.css or
SpryMenuVertical.css page that is attached. All the color
values are in
there.
>I'm unfamiliar with how css code works.
You need to change this. Without a thorough working knowledge
of HTML and
CSS (at the very least), you will never have great success in
either
Dreamweaver or web design. I first learned web design using
Notepad, typing
every single tag, and I am soo grateful now that I had that
solid coding
experience .. without it, this program would be very hard to
master.

Free? I'm not sure any more .. you can use either the 30 day
trial of
Fireworks or Photoshop (Fireworks would probably be easier to
pick up) but
if you're going to do a lot of this, you need to get some
good tools and
learn them well.

Sorry if it's something really basic...I'm a noob to web design.
Thanks!Don't use reserved words in JS
var event = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("events.xml", "catalog/event", {sortOnLoad: "date", sortOrderOnLoad: "descending"});
event is such a reserved word. If you change this to event1 then all is well.
I hope this helps.

Dreamweaver Spry menu bar focus state
How do I keep the link highlighted when I am on that page using the Spry menu bar feature in DreamWeaver CS5.5?
Thank you,
DeniseI understand what you are saying but do not have a clue how to implement this script. I am more on the designer end of things. I am comfortable editing CSS but this is a bit out of my radar. How do I make a separate SpryDOMUtils.js file?
What and where of this info do I copy into my html file?
Here are the pages I am trying to get this to work on. On this page I want the Dwell link on the left to be the orange color:

Thank you for your time.

Having issues linking spry menu bar to my other pages
Hey everyone,
I am brand new to web development. I am currently using the trial of DW and I must say I love it. I am having issues with my spry menu bar though. I will click on a certain box in the menu bar and use the properties page at the bottom and insert a link to another one of my webpages that I have created. However when I test my webpage, it will not be linked to it. Instead it is linked to #, or my index page. Now my domain name is: thecampuscocktail.com. I have created two other pages "feedback.html" and "speedydrinks.html" and even when I enter those manually into my browser (i.e. "thecampuscocktail.com/feedback.html") it gives me a page not found error. So I may be doing something incorrectly with uploading my pages however I have used the "put" option with all of them and I have used the "sync site wide" option. I am also using a template though that shouldn't affect it. Being brand new I know very, very little about coding. But here is the code to my template:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

It depends. I can see your two pages as in this link:

You need to describe what these issues are. -
Spry Menu Bar link colors not consistent
I have a horizontal Spry menu bar set up with 4 items in it.
The first item is the Home link and does not have a submenu, but
the other 3 items do. What I want is when you roll over the main 4
items the text link color will be purple (#583399). When an item
has a submenu the rollover text link on the submenu links will be
green (#89b11a).
My current code almost works, but the problem I am having is
that the Home link
without the submenu changes to a green color instead of
purple like the other 3 main links. If I add a test submenu to the
Home link then it turns purple like the other links. How can I get
the Home link to change to purple like the others without having a
submenu attached to it?
Here is my html code that refers to the menu:
<ul id="MenuBar1" class="MenuBarHorizontal">
<li><a href="index.html"
class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">HOME</a></li>
<li><a href="about.html"
class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">ABOUT</a>
<ul>
<li><a
href="services.html">services</a></li>
<li><a
href="bios.html">bios</a></li>
<li><a
href="news.html">news</a></li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><a href="work.html" class="MenuBarItemSubmenu"
>WORK</a>
<ul>
<li><a href="design.html">design</a>
</li>
<li><a
href="advertising.html">advertising</a></li>
<li><a href="casestudies.html">case
studies</a></li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><a href="contact.html"
class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">CONTACT</a>
<ul>
<li><a href="#">.</a></li>
<li><a
href="location.html">location</a></li>
<li><a
href="opportunities.html">opportunities</a></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
Here is the Spry CSS code that pertains to the links:
/* Menu items are a light gray text with padding and no text
decoration */
ul.MenuBarHorizontal a
display: block;
cursor: pointer;
padding: 0.5em 0.75em;
color: #666666;
text-decoration: none;
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
/* Menu items that have mouse over or focus have green text
ul.MenuBarHorizontal a:hover, ul.MenuBarHorizontal a:focus
color: #89b11a;
/* Menu items that are open with submenus are set to
MenuBarItemHover with purple text */
ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemHover,
color: #583399;
/* Menu items that are open with submenus are set to
MenuBarItemHover with purple text */
ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemSubmenuHover,
ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarSubmenuVisible
color: #583399;
And
here
is a link to my test file so you can see what I am talking
about.
Thanks for any help and let me know if you need anything else
to help with it.Anyone??

Spry Menu Bar using CSS background image without losing submenu ( V) indicators
Spry menu bar sets the down and side submenu indicators using
a positioned background image. I have a requirement to use a
specific background image yet must retain the > and v submenu
indicators. Without having to generate full width custom background
images for each of the menu item types to include the side and down
menu indicators, is there anyway to use a generic background image
and show the indicators using just CSS?Don't use reserved words in JS
var event = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("events.xml", "catalog/event", {sortOnLoad: "date", sortOrderOnLoad: "descending"});
event is such a reserved word. If you change this to event1 then all is well.
I hope this helps.

Ordering photos in Web Gallery
I would like to impose an arbitrary order on a Web Photo Gallery. What is the recommended practice for doing this? Add a metadata attribute and sort on it? Rename the photos including an order field in the name? I tried simply dragging and dropping.

I used to use Pluginlab for building my site navigation as it had a wonderful integration into DW and also created a sitemap.xml perfectly. However, that being said, the drop downs don't work on iPhone and it seems they've gone out of business, anyw
