Dreamweaver CS3 Spry Updates

Just been reading the Edge newsletter for June, and picked up
on this under the section describing Ajax features in DW CS3:
Adobe say-
"Because Spry lives independently on Adobe Labs, it will
continue to evolve and become more robust and powerful. Upcoming
releases will include JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) support,
unobtrusive JavaScript support, HTML datasets, and more."
With each stable release of Spry, is there going to be an
update for DW to expand the functionality within the software, for
instance, update the Spry toolbar to contain buttons for new
features etc?

Dreamweaver CS3 - Not Updating Files

I have this problem since upgrading from Dreamweaver MX2004
to CS3. I edit files on my local machine. I then tell Dreamweaver
to syncronize files and put newer to remove (which it does). But
when I check the remote nothing has been updated. Lately I have
been getting the message about files being newer on the remote when
they are not. I tried the fix of unchecking synchronization info
and then re-checking, but it still does not update anything. I
noticed that I modified a file at 11.01am, and uploaded it. It
didn't update but the remote file is showing as being modified same
date but 6.15pm.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? I have been using
Dreamweaver for about 6 years with no problems.

Dreamweaver cs3 spry collapsible panel, can it go verticle?

I'm trying to create an online menu for a restaurant and I want the spry collapsible menu to extend upward instead of dropping down after clicking the tab. I have been searching for two days now and cannot seem to find any way to manipulate the script in order to create the desired effect.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks again.

My apologies for the previous post, another senior moment.
Without touching the JS, the best way is to work with the CSS to achieve what you want although this will comprimise the workings of the widget. Have a look at the following

CS3 Spry Accordion Link Color

Greetings:
I am attempting to change the link color to "none" within a
Dreamweaver CS3 Spry Accordion navigational element and I am unable
to make the changes I need. I have tried to change the internal
link page properties within my HTML document and also set the "a"
properties in the linked CSS file to "text-decoration: none" and
the link color still remains in the Accordion navigational element.
Do you have any suggestions on how I can fix this?

in your spy accordian css file, put:
a:link
text-decoration:none;
or, even better
.nolinkunderline
text-decoration:none;
and then apply the style to your accordians hyperlinks
i am assuming it's the underline element that you want
removed

Dreamweaver cs3 crashes after spry update

I used the spry updater tonight and DW has been crashing all
night. crashes 90% of the time when putting or getting files and
about 50% when trying to save a file. Any idea how to roll back?

Searched in Adobe Knowledge Base and found useful TechNote on
Re-creating the Dreamweaver user configuration folder on Windows
(TechNote 36bda422)
Carried out guidance and problem solved. Previously crashed
when selecting text - now you can see app is thinking about
crashing as there is a pause, but now gets over issue and gets on
with things.
This prompted me to revisited the preceding advice on this
page re Diana and deleting the WinFile Cache. I then realised that
I had deleted my previous DW 8 file sitting under the Macromedia
directory rather than DW 9 under Adobe.
Not sure if it was because I had rectified the problem by
deleting the whole dir iaw TechNote or whether it was just the
cache file, but either way one of them did the trick. Stable for
now, but watch this space.

ANN: Using Spry 1.6 with Essential Guide to Dreamweaver CS3

It has been brought to my attention that most of the example
files in
Chapters 19 and 20 of "The Essential Guide to Dreamweaver CS3
with CSS,
Ajax, and PHP" don't work as expected after upgrading to Spry
1.6. This
is because Spry 1.6 handles HTML in CDATA sections
differently. The
solution is to add entityEncodeStrings:false to the options
passed to
the Spry XML Dataset. For details, see the book's updates

Could not update DW CS3/Spry 1.6.1

Hy@all,
I could not update my DW CS3 (version 9.0 build 3453) to Spry
1.6.1 :(
If I run the Spry161Udater1.0.0.mxp, I get the error message
'Could not update one file, extension will not be instaled'
Any solutions ????

Hmm...I haven't heard of that before.
Try getting rid of your user config folder and installing it
again.
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS3\Configuration
Mac: MacHD:Users:username:Library:Application Support:Adobe:
Dreamweaver CS3:Configuration
Get rid of the entire 'Configuration' folder and then try
reinstalling.

Radiobutton spry in dreamweaver cs3

Hi,
Was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.
I have downloaded a trial version of the dreamweaver cs3 and was
doing a web form for the first time with spry's. I found them
really good to use however there is no button to click for a radio
spry.
Or is this because i have trail version? or is it not listed.
I know i have .css .js for radio buttons however its alot
easier to just click on a button cant somone shed some light on
this?

Spry Accordian in Dreamweaver CS3

I am using Spry Widgets in Dreamweaver CS3. However,
everytime I insert the spry accordion - it doesn't work right if
too much text is in one of the tabs. For Example: I have 3 tabs in
the Accordion. Everything works well as it should if there is just
a little text without a scroll bar. However, when there is a scroll
bar in the Accordion - it doesn't work right. The panels do not
minimize, all the panels are open. When I click on one panel, it
doesn't do what is is suppose to.
Did I do something wrong here? I don't think I did.

Without seeing your page (code) I am guesing what your
peoblem is, but try this.
Check you have the SpryAssets folder and js content correctly
referenced between page and external folder. Check that your js
script, which should be the last script tag set before the closing
body tag is in place on the page containing the accordion.
Also, you can change the accordion panel behavior to a
flexible height, which contains all content, and removes the
vertical scroll bar. You need to edit the CSS and add a new
property to the accordion object when it is initialized. Find the
.AccordionPanelContent CSS class and delete the height property;
change the overflow property to hidden.
Next tell the Accordion object to use flexible height by
going to the bottom of the page and finding the code that has
(something like: var Accordion1 =
Spry.Widget.Accordion("Accordion1"); in the code. Add
useFixedPanelHeights:False to the constructor function so it looks
like this:
var Accordion1 = Spry.Widget.Accordion("Accordion1",
{useFixedPanelHeights:False} );
That should remove the scroll bars.

Dreamweaver CS3 After Mac Software Update

Dreamweaver CS3 has an issue with CSS background display and
other display issues after installing latest Mac software updates.
Display in browser is unaffected.
The culprit seems to be the Quicktime Version 7.6 update.
Changes to the folder located at System \ Library \ Quicktime seem
to cause an issue with Adobe products.
Solution: Do not intall Quicktime 7.6 update OR after update
replace Quicktime folder with previous version of folder from
backups. Restart computer.

I'm having other similar issues, where the splash window that
launches when you first start the app just sits there for about 3-4
minutes before dreamweaver launches. See no effect with other adobe
apps. This started after a mac update and an adobe update of some
other programs. FYI... I'm using CS4

I've had the same issue - it's been caused by the 10.6.7 update breaking Java on OSX. I managed to fix it by re-installing the "Java For Max OS X 10.6 Update 4". You can download it from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1360

Using Spry how to stop Dreamweaver CS3 from Changing Code

I am using Dreamweaver CS3 to build/maintain a website www.ghoter.net. I started using Spry to insert data from an xml file as I need the data in the xml file to show up on several different pages, includeing the home page. The data in the xml file changes from time to time. This is working wery well. But I am having a problem with Dreamweaver automaticly changing a line of code in the html files every time I make a change to the html file. The line of code that is being changed is in the head of the program.
This is the line of code that is being changed: The xml's name is data-3.xml The date from the xml file goes at the top of the left collumn.
The good code is: var ds1 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("data-3.xml", "customers/customer",{distinctOnLoad:true});
The above line of code is automaticly being changed to this below, which does not work:
var ds1 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("data-3.xml", "customers/customer",<MM:BeginLock translatorClass="MM_SPRY" type="MM_SPRY_DATA_REFERENCE" orig="{distinctOnLoad:true}" ><MM_DYNAMIC_CONTENT DYNAMICDATA=1><MM:DECORATION HILITECOLOR="Dyn Untranslated Color">{distinctOnLoad:true}</MM:DECORATION></MM_DYNAMIC_CONTENT></script><MM:EndLock>);
I can replace the bad line of code with the good code just befor saving the html file and the good line of code will be saved with the file and the web page works as it should.

Hi Jack,
I think (not sure though) that the Library Item is causing the problem. I never use the Library Item because server side includes are far more efficient and need less maintenance.

If you have PHP serverside scripting language, use DW to add serverside includes using PHP.
Getting back to your original problem, try without the Library Item and see if DW still changes the code.

Cant Update Dreamweaver CS3 #9 3481

I recently bought a copy from adobe of CS3 Dreamweaver and
all is well except a couple of needs to restart now and there. I
tried to update using "help" , "updateing" and it says no
interconnection to internet can be found. I am connected and tried
disableing my firewal ZoneAlarm, the firewall in trend and all
other possible problems and still get the same message. Is there a
way to update via download or do you have a soution?

You're mistaken. There were no updates for Dreamweaver CS3, apart from the Middle East version.

Can't run updater 8.0.2 on Dreamweaver CS3 install

I have that FTP user name and password problem where it's
lost every time you re-start the program. Reading this forum I
found that I needed to use the updater 8.0.2. That downloaded fine
and when I tried to run it I got the following message:
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows
installer service because the program to be upgraded may be
missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the
program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your
computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
I double checked I downloaded the English version of 8.0.2
and I have the English version
My disk is an upgrade disk which I've also had in the drive
during the update.
I tried totally uninstalling dreamweaver and then installing
and doing the update again.
Regardless I get this error, I also get the error with 8.0.1
updater
Any suggestions?

Your subject line says you're trying to run this on DW CS3.
It's already
built in to CS3. The 8.02 updater was for DW 8.

Just updated to Firefox 3.6.9, I'm building a site and the Dreamweaver CS3 Preview feature no longer works in previewing my pages. Any fixes available?

Just updated to Firefox 3.6.9 this morning. I'm building a site using Dreamweaver CS3 for a class and the Preview feature was working fine before the update. I can preview my pages in other browsers successfully, but now if I choose Firefox, no window opens.
I have a Macbook Pro, OS X.

Sorry, Mozilla did a security fix that broke Dreamweaver with Firefox. Virtually no other programs were broken with that fix, and considering the age of Dreamweaver (~5 years since it was last updated) they decided not to back-out that security fix for one old, elderly program. This problem was discussed at length back in January and February after Firefox 3.6 was first released.
