Dreamweaver CS3 template uneditable

Dear Community,
I created a template in Dreamweaver CS3, editing the template worked up until today. The site is www.slothbob.com, which maybe irrelevant, but in the content part of the page (center), when opened template in dreamweaver, it seems to have a lock down, only allowing an "editable region" where that text is. I am trying to get out of this lock down trap, so I can edit other slices in the template. Also, it prompts that my template is nested directly or indirecty, but before when editing was possible, it seemed to just incorporate the changes to every page across the site. Again, my goal is to just editing some of the slices in dreamweaver that would be an axiom across every page on the site, but in lock down (code greyed out and everything). I appreciate everyone's time and input and thank you all greatly.

The link that you posted is bad.  Please try again.
The symptoms you describe tell me that your "template" is likely not a template but a child page.  We would need to see the code to know for sure, though.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Template

    I'm using Dreamweaver CS3. I use a template that I've always
been able to make changes and automatically update the pages that
use it on save. I've made some changes to the template, but when I
go to update all the pages using that template it says:
    Done.
    files examined: 1183
    files updated: 0
files which could not be updated: 0
    total time: (0:00:02)
Nothing is updated. I have a large site to update and am in
    desperate need of help.
    Thanks!!

Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes
    not propagating
    from Template to child -
    1. Rename the Templates folder
    2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in
    the site other
    than root level
    3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which
    will not
    propagate)
    5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server
    without also
    uploading the changed local files
    6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template
    and child page
    is broken
7, Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the
    template,
adding page specific content, and resaving the template with
    an *.html
extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if
    this is the case
by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything
    like <!--
TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done). If
    you *have
done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DWCS3) using
    FILE | New > Page
from Template, select the template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced >
    Recreate Site
Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing
    them. Have you
    done any of those?

  • Are dreamweaver CS3 templates responsive?

    Hello,
I need to create my project that will work also in ipad and the new cellphones?  I'm using Dreamweaver CS3, and already almost done with the project when I was asked to have this new parameter - the site has to be responsive to these devices.  Will the template in Dreamweaver CS3 work with these devices?  I don't currently have these devices to test.  How could I test them.  If not, any suggestions... Any help, please....
    Zandy
    [email protected]

Unfortunately, CS3 predates the "responsive design" concept by a few years. You can still make responsive designs using it, but it requires more knowledge of handcoding the CSS/HTML. If you look into Media Queries and Responsive Design online, there are quite a few sources that give you the info you'll need. Depending on your level of comfort with CSS and HTML, they may be a great help, or a confusing mess.
    http://www.lynda.com is a good resource
As for previewing things for smaller devices, Firefox has a nice little thing built in for that...
Tools > Web Developer > Responsive Design View (Ctrl + Shift + M).

  • Dreamweaver Cs3 Template Application help!

    hi folks
I have an index page which I made into a template - I then created six main 'title' categories from this template. Then, I saved each 'title' category as a template, and created about 6 or 7 'sub category' pages from those templates - the thinking being that if I had to make major changes, I could make the changes to the templates in each category (as they all share look and feel within a category).
    I have 2 problems/questions:
1> I needed to detach the 'aboutus.html' page from the indextemplate.dwt to make some minor changes in uneditable areas - now, however, when i reapply the template, major changes are applied, as the aboutus page has changed significantly from the template. Is there a way I can apply *just* certain changes from the template? I thought the behavior was that it only applied the latest changes from the template - not the *entire* template from top to bottom (in a sense, it 'synchronized' the 2 together after I did the modify/remove and modify/apply actions).
2> My 'sub' pages - which were created as 'new' pages based on the 'Title' page templates - they dont seem to be updating. I *do* get the 'update' pages'
dialogue box when i save changes to the templates - but the changes are NOT being carried through. Is this because the templates are 'nested' - i.e the templates which are the TITLEs are actually based on a template themselves.
    Thanks!!!

Is there an inherent problem/bug that makes nested templates a broken 'feature'?
No, it's just a feature without a good reason to use it.  I look at it this way - I use templates to make my development/maintenance tasks easier.  Why would I then add a complexity to that reason that actually makes my tasks harder again?
that still doesnt really help me with how to 'prevent' the template from overwriting everything on the page. the one that had that issue was NOT one of the nested ones.
This is how templates work.  If you are finding that you need to edit a page in a region that is non-editable, you have to go back and re-work your template to allow such edits to survive the next update.  This is MUCH better than detaching a page, which defeats the whole purpose of using templates in the first place.

  • Columns in Dreamweaver CS3 Template Pages Not Displaying Correctly in IE8

I have a site that has most pages created with a template page that displays three columns below the navbar (counting a small column to the left for the logo at the top the table has four columns).  The home page (index.html - not from the template) displays the same colums as the template pages correctly, but all the pages created with the template show the first column as way to wide and the next two columns as far too narrow.
I have trawled the internet to find a solution, but as my knowledge of HTML is limited it is proving near impossible for me to even find a relevant forum topic, let alone a workable solution.  All I want is for the template pages with three visible columns below the navbar to display the same widths as those in index.html.
I am working on a mac and the pages all preview fine in Safari, Firefox etc, but not in IE8 on Windows 7 machines.
I have tried rather indelicately to shove various bits of code in to fix the width of the columns and render such commands as table-layout=fixed etc, but with absolutely no effect.
    The site is: www.southoverfoods.com
If anyone can help I will be grateful.

You do want to fix these errors -
    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.southoverfoods.com%2Fabout.html&charset =%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
    Most are straightforward.
If you view the page in IE9, and click on the compatibility icon, the rendering looks right.  Unfortunately, I cannot force that rendering with any of the accepted meta tag usages!
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" />
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE8" />
So I'm a little puzzled what to do....

  • Dreamweaver cs3 template theme help

    Hello,
I'm very new to dreamweaver and just getting use to it but
wanted to ask a quick question for one of you professionals out
    there.
With the theme portion of Dreamweaver (currently all I have
got use to). I can make a pretty cool site with the theme layout
but sometimes I will save it and then try to do another page and
the theme page looks great on the dreamweaver side but on the
actual internet the site looks terrible like all the font is
different and the links don't have the hovering graphics, etc. I
was just curious if any one knows why it does this on certain
pages? Let me know. Thanks for your help in advance.
    Mark

    > Let me know.
It would not be possible to diagnose without seeing a) a page
    that's "good"
and b) a page that's "bad". Screen shots will not work for
    this - we would
need to see the code. Can you show us those two pages?

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Templates

When I update a template or library, I seem to have all the
empty spaces that are assigned with the lettering
"{products_image_1} {products_content_1} up thru all the ones I
don't have assigned, some pages need all of the table contents and
other pages do not, but they are all tied into the same template,
as is the library "sidebar". I go back and delete them all before
uploading everything to the web, but it is a royal pain that I have
to go and spend well over an hour to go back and update all the
pages that were perfect before I did one little simple update, like
changing a picture on a template or lettering... Can anyone help me
    stop this from happening.
    Thank you,

You are not using a DW template if you see markup like this.

  • DW CS3: Template & CSS Rules problems

Dreamweaver CS3 Templates and CSS Rules.
I've built a basic html page with a header, navigation links and main content area, then saved this as a template with the content area as the edit region.
When I create new html pages from this template I want to insert Divs in the edit region for each new page, which I can successfully do, but for some reason Dreamweaver is not allowing me to create new CSS Rules for each new Div? So I'm not able to control position, text layout, colours etc for the new content. So my question is how do I do this?
I got around this with the current website by creating the template with virtually all of the content for the entire website firstly, then deleting as necessary for each page, which I know is the wrong way to build html site pages from a template!
I wonder if someone could please point me in the right direction to get me back on track? Any pointers would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is a meta tag at the start of the CSS rules. Here's a copy and paste of the code generated in DW CS3. Template was created from a html doc...
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

  • Contribute CS4 with Dreamweaver CS3

I have a number of sites created with Dreamweaver CS3, and
intend to provide update access with Contribute - but Contribute
CS3 is now hard to get hold of. Will these sites work with
Contribute CS4 if developed with DW CS3: general functions such as
editable sections, checkin/checkout. I don't want to upgrade my
    systems yet to CS4.
CS4 suite has much higher system requirement than CS3 - which
probably means a hardware upgrade first - so want to avoid this.
Can't find any info on this anywhere.
    Thanks

I just read on the adobe website that:
    "Contribute CS4 works with Adobe Dreamweaver® CS4

Does that mean it wont work with Dreamweaver CS3 templates?

  • DW 8 Templates in Dreamweaver CS3

    Greetings,
I am currently working with a Dreamweaver template (Version
    8) and I have recently installed Dreamweaver CS3 to check it out. I
wanted to update several pages with the updated template in CS3,
but when I tried, I got an error related to nested editable
regions. I checked out my code, and cleaned it up (it is strict
xhtml 1.0) and tried again. I didn't get the error, but none of the
pages are updated. Does somebody know why this could happen?

If you have made changes to a template page and those changes
    are not
propagated to the respective child pages then only one of two
    possibilities
    exist:
    1. Your changes were made to EDITABLE regions in the template
    files, or
    2. The site cache is corrupted, and can be fixed by using
    SITE | Advanced >
    Recreate Site Cache
Might one of those be the cause?

  • PLEASE HELP - Problem with 2 column fixed template in Dreamweaver CS3

I am trying to create a website using the 2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and footer html template in Dreamweaver CS3.  I tried putting a picture in the right side bar as well as with in the main content or left portion of the page, and neither picture is showing up when I view it in any of the browsers I'm using.
I've made some minor changes in colors and sizing, but other than that no other changes.  The pic I put in for the header is showing up just fine though.
Any help or advice to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Here is the base Dreamweaver code including the pic references that I'm trying to show on either side - when the browser opens, it only shows a blank space where the pics should be... let me know what you think.  Thanks!!

Do you own Flash? Are you familliar with action scripts? If
