Dreamweaver CS4 and Windows 8

I have recently purchased a new laptop running Windows 8.  I am a private individual who runs three websites using Dreamweaver CS4, one for a school and two a non-profit organisation..  The local view shows every file on my drive instead of only the files in the in the folders belonging to each website.
Is this a compatability issue?
Can anyone offer assistance?

When you set up the Local Root folder, make sure DW is putting the right path in. I know there is a glitch in DWCS4 that would put basically "on directory up" as the folder even if you browsed to the right place and hit OK. (up until a couple weeks ago, I was still using DWCS4 and fought this issue every time I made a new site)
Go into your broken site definition using Site > Manage Sites > Edit
Click the Advanced Tab
Look at the Local Root Folder text box. This is where DWCS4 likes goofing up. If your site's root folder was supposed to be C:\Users\yourname\Desktop\Folder1 it will likely show C:\Users\yourname\Desktop instead. You should be able to change that manually by adding in the correct folder name at the end.
Otherwise, the way to fix it when you're making a new site is to browse to the correct location twice when adding the local root folder during the Site Definition process. It will usually pick up the correct location on the second attempt.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and Windows 7 Compatibility

When using CS4 (Dreamweaver and Fireworks) the "Properties" panel does not display correctly when running in Windows 7. The bottom half of panel is out of site no matter screen resolution and the input boxes "Title" etc are cutoff vertically.
Is this a compatibility issue, and if so, does anyone know of a work around?
    Thanks for any help--Patrick

    Try
CS4 Property inspector fields truncated (Windows)
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2032992
    Workaround
***Goto Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Display
***Select on the left "Set custom text size (DPI)"
**Set whatever scale percentage you want (DPI)
***Uncheck "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling"
    Click "OK"
When you load up Dreamweaver you should see the whole Properties pane.
In the case that you don't after changing that setting restart your computer and try again.

  • Can't install Dreamweaver CS4 on WIndows 7.  Setup error

I can't install Dreamweaver CS4 on WIndows 7.  I get a vague error that says Setup error, sontact Adobe Customer Support. Adobe Customer Support refuses to help me.  That really upsets me.

First of all I would like to thank the people that responded to my post.  I am extreemly impressed with your eagerness to help and your concern for my problem.  Thank you very much! I appreciate it.
I did not see a way to get a transcript of my chat.  I should have printed it at the conclusion of my chat. Overall though, I think my concerns are with Windows itself and also how Adobe as a company handles a call from someone who gets an installation error that says "call Adobe Customer Support". I purchased this program to run on Windows 7 and I am installing it on a Windows 7 computer. I feel that if Adobe is going to give a vague error message and tell you to contact them, they should give me more assistance than "your product is too old, good luck on the forums". I could see if I am calling and asking them how to do something, maybe my product is too old for that, but I think their responce was unacceptable.  I hope enough other people complain so that Adobe changes this policy.
Wow, this has taken an enormous amount of time to deal with. I imagine this is mainly a Windows file permissions issue, but I think Adobe needs to take some ownership for a client having to spend many HOURS trying to install their program on the original OS they purchased the program for.
I definitely do not like the way the Adobe Dreamweaver installer deals with errors. Here are the facts as I know them.
When the installer would fail on install, the subsequesnt install would fail, but it would give a VERY cryptic error stating that the install failed and I need to contact Adobe customer service.
In order to re-install I had to un-install.  Naturally my un-installs failed every time, too. After lots of trial and error and checking the forumns, I found   the program install folders under c:\programs. I deleted them, re-booted, unistalled again with no errors.  Then I could re-install without the vague "contact Adobe customer support" error.  Note that I had to re-install several times to get to the bottom of the installation problem so this took a long time to figure out.
In the end, I had to manually delete files from C:\Windows\Installer in order to get Dreamweaver to install.  This took a long time to figure out, too.  It still installed with errors, but it said Dreamweaver would work with limited functionality. So far this is good enough for me and I am tired of spending non-billable time on this.
Following is one of the main erros I got during the first failed install.  IF ANYONE KNOWS EXACTLY WHY MY INSTALL WAS FAILING I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.  IT SEEMS LIKE IT DID NOT HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE OPERATING SYSTEM TO ACCESS THOSE FILES, BUT THAT SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE AS THE PROGRAM IS INSTALLED AS ADMINISTRATOR. Any thoughts???
    Thanks again everyone who helped!

  • CS4 and Windows 8 compatibility

Has anyone successfully installed CS4 on Windows 8? I am currently using Windows XP and received a pop up saying Microsoft are no longer releasing updates for XP after August and I am entitled to a free download of Windows 8. I am trying to decide whether to do this but risk losing my use of CS4 which I really don't want to do. Any advice much appreciated as not sure whether to just continue with XP. Thanks in advance.

If you search Google using the terms "CS4 and Windows 8 compatibility" you can probably find various results from both Adobe and Microsoft that should give you some idea of how much of a gamble you might face in changing your OS.
In my own experience, a change in OS has yet to be a positive experience... while most people loved XP in its day, I suffered years of poor performance with it as an upgrade from the moment it was installed and regretted doing it.  Maybe you've had better experience and aren't as shy of it as I am.

  • Need to re-install DreamWeaver CS4 and Captivate 4

I have license keys for DreamWeaver CS4 and Captivate 4. I just had my laptop reimaged and need to reinstall this software--however, I can find downloads for only Version 5 of these products.
How can I reainstall the older versions?

Go to this guy's profile, where you will see his blog address.  Go there and you'll find links to old versions.  Very handy!    Make sure you follow the instructions about logging into Adobe etc first to the letter or it won't work.

  • Dreamweaver cs4 and css

I was using Dreamweaver MX2004 befor and now am trying to use Dreamweaver CS4. and not very familiar with it
    My question is:
Is there is a parameter or option that I hsve to set in the Dreamweaver preferences so that I can modify attributes
to text without having to create a CSS rule?  Because actualy, everytime I want to modify the appearance of text I am asked to create a new CSS
    Tank you for your attention
    Bert

I'm afraid that you will have to tough this one out and learn some CSS.  There is no way to retrograde DWCS4 so that it works like a version that is 4 years older.
Once you spend a few minutes on this task, you'll wonder what all the angst was about.  It's really very simple.  And you will have to get beyond the old (and BAD) habit of styling your content using the Property inspector....

  • Error Installing Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows 7: Installer Database is Corrupt

Error Message: The Installer Database is Corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer Service.
I bought a new laptop and would like to install Dreamweaver CS4 on it. It is already running fine on my desktop, being installed back in 1/2011. Both PCs are Windows 7 but the new laptop is Windows 7 Professional.  I have downloaded the two install files ADBEDRWVCS4_LS1.7z and ADBEDRWVCS4_LS1.exe multiple ways and to multiple locatons on the laptop. I've run the .exe file multiple ways and extracted to several locations besides the default (c:\users\userid\Desktop\Adobe CS4). After the extract completes and it tries to run setup I get the same message "The Installer Database is corrupt. Please Contact Adobe Customer Service" (which I did and they just gave me another download link I had already tried).
I even copied the folder with the extracted files done on my desktop (where the install had succeeded). And still got the same message when I ran setup.exe on the laptop. I tried running it with a "run as administrator" command prompt, double-clicking in Windows Explorer, start > run and the same thing happens. At least it doesn't appear that it has actually installed anything yet.
I did notice that my new PC has a program called "7-zip 9.20" installed which I do not remember installing and its install date is prior to my purchase of the PC so I'm guessing it came with it (HP Pavilion 15t running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit). The Windows 7 Desktop does not have this program installed. It is available from C|net where it has a good rating. Perhaps setup.exe does further extracting and the 7-zip program is the culprit? This is a long shot.
I searched for others with this problem and found lots of issues installing Dw CS4, but none quite like this.

Awesome! That worked! Actually I searched three folders (Program Files, Program Files (x86) & Program Data) for caps.db and found:
    c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premier Elements\caps.db (dated 9/2/2011)
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Backup\caps.db
I ignored the first one since it might be needed by the Premier Elements 10 I installed yesterday and changed the name of the other one from caps.db to barb.fix.
I changed the install folder from c:\Program Files\Adobe to c:\Program Files (x86) just in case CS4 is a 32-bit application which I had done before when installing on my Windows7 Desktop. Now that the install has completed I see that I have caps.db files dated 5/5/2014 in
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\caps\caps.db
c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\backup\caps.db (barb.fix is still there but is only 26kb vs 3291 kb for the new caps.db)
Thank-you so much! Now wish me luck when I try to open it for the first time!

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and Coldfusion 8 - help on configuration

    Hi Guys,
I'm not a Coldfusion user and I cant find anything from the support docs. I hope you can shed some light on my issue. I really need some help on this.
    Here's my set up:
Dreamweaver CS4/CS3 installed on a Win XP Pro SP2 machine
Coldfusion 8 installed on Windows 2003 server (http://[servername]:8500). IIS is also running on the server.(http://[servername])(Testing Server)
Coldfusion 8 is located in C:\Coldfusion
    wwwroot = C:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot
Coldfusion is on Trial mode right now. Installed as a self-contained server (first radio button in installation)
Built in webserver was selected also during the installation
    RDS Password enabled
    Issue:
When I define a site in Dreamweaver CS4/CS3, I cannot connect to the Coldfusion part of the testing server.
I tried both Local/Network and FTP but I can't connect.
Here's the sample information the i put in the site definition of Dreamweaver under the Advanced Tab.
    1st example:
    Category: Testing Server
    Access: FTP
    FTP Host: [servername]:8500
    Host Directory: /test
    username: [username]
    password: [password]
    URL Prefix: http://servername:8500/test
** I tried checking and unchecking the checkboxes under password
    Error: FTP Error Occured
    2nd example:
    Category: Testing Server
    Access: Local/Network
    Testing Server Folder: [servername]:8500\test
    URL Prefix: http://servername:8500/test
Here's the interesting part on this setup. When I go to the Basic tab to test the connection for the testing server, I get this message, "[servername]:8500\temp.html contains an invalid path". After I hit OK, "The URL Prefix test was successful." message appears
    My Questions:
what's wrong with my setup? Is my prefix correct?
what else do i need to configure?
is Coldfusion conflicting with the IIS on my server? Should I configure Coldfusion to work with IIS rather than setting it up as a built in webserver?
What questions do I need to ask? XD
I hope someone can help me on this or guide me to the right path. I can access the files when type http://servername:8500 on the browser though.
    Help please? Thanks in advance!
    -dis

Port 8500 is the port the built in web server is listing to to respond to client requests.  To view ColdFusion code on the server you would put http://servername:8500/myCFMLfile.cfm in a browser.
To have your Dreamweaver help you write these files you just need to tell it how you want to connect to servername.
For FTP you would need FTP enabled on servername and be able to FTP to c:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot\ on servername.  Then you would set up something like this in Dreamweaver
    FTP HOST: servername
    Host Directory: ???
(depends on what your FTP root is for the FTP server on servername and how it relates to c:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot\
    username: ...
    password: ...
    URL Prefix: http://servername:8500/
(What you would put into the URL of a browser.)
For Local/Network you just write the file to the c:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot\ directory on servername.  This assumes that this directory is shared and available to users over the network.  Which it probably is by the little known drive hidden share default on most windows systems.
    Access: local/network
    Testing Server Folder: \\servername\c$\ColdFusion8\wwwroot\
(Or other UNC path to the desired network folder)
    URL Prefix: http://servername:8500/
(Still what you put into the URL of a browser)

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and Photoshop elements 10

Can i intergrate Photoshop elements to work with Dreamweaver cs4, Photoshop shows up on the editor button in Dreamweaver but when i try to use it it tells me it cannot find the file, even thought i no the file is there, Is there some setting i am missing here ?
    Tony.

I don't have Photoshop Elements to test with, but you should be able to associate it with image types in Dreamweaver.
Open the Preferences panel from the Edit menu (Windows) or the Dreamweaver menu (Mac), and select File Types/Editors in the column on the left.
Select an image type in the Extensions field, and then select the program you want to use as the editor in the Editors field. I doubt if Photoshop Elements will be listed, but you can add it by clicking the plus button above Editors. Navigate to the Photoshop Elements application file, and select it. Then click the Make Primary button.
You need to do this for each type of image you want to edit in Photoshop Elements.
    Click OK when done.
