Dreamweaver CS4 displays generic icon

This is not a functional problem, but being a visual perso
n, its driving me crazy. Dreamweaver CS4 displays a generic icon on my desktop, o
n the start menu, and also in the installation directory. All of the other CS4 programs (from Design Premium) display properly. I have tried reinstalling Dreamweaver, replacing the icon manually ("change icon") and done a disk cleanup to get rid of any temp and cached files but to no avail.
Any idea what is causing this or how to fix? I am running Windows 7 Pro.
Thanks
Donna S

I have the same problem except with ALL jpegs, not just small ones. Other file types (pdfs, eg) preview just fine in cover flow, and I am able to open all the jpgs by themselves in any program, they just don't render in cover flow.
I think this happened in conjunction with the upgrade to 10.5.1.
Any help would be most appreciated!

  • Bridge CS4 showing generic icon for TIF... sometimes

I recently installed CS4 and Bridge, all updated to the latest versions.
    Here's the scenario:
Desktop running Windows XP Home with all updates and patches applied running CS4.
Laptop running Nikon Scan to acquire scans using Coolscan 5000.
    Both PCs on a network.
I open CS4 on the desktop PC.
I open Bridge using the icon at the top of the CS4 Window.  I navigate to a folder where I keep newly scanned files -- these are TIFs.
On the laptop computer, I scan an image and it is saved to the laptop hard drive as a TIF.  Using Windows Explorer, I copy the TIF file from the laptop to the scan folder on the desktop that is open in Bridge.  Instead of seeing a thumbnail for the file in Bridge, I only see an icon that says "TIF."  I press F5 to refresh the view and nothing happens.  I double-click the TIF icon to open the file in CS4 and the image looks fine.  Still, only an icon in Bridge.
To replace the icon with the thumbnail, I can do one of three things:  close Bridge and reopen it, or purge the cache for the scan folder, or select the icon and right-click on the icon and "Purge Cache for the Selection."
Is this a bug?  Is there something else I can do so that when I add TIFs to the folder that is open in Bridge, I see the thumbnail and not the generic icon.
Thanks very much for any help here.

    Curt,
    Thank you for the reply.
If I click on another folder and then back to the scan folder, I still see the generic icon.  However, I did the test you suggested and copied some TIFs made by another program into the scan folder, and the thumbnails show up right away.  So, you are right that something about how the Nikon software saves TIFs is causing this problem.  The Nikon TIFs must have a thumbnail in them because I can view them after doing the other activities I mentioned.
I'm not a software expert, so I don't really understand how this stuff works, but at least you've helped me explain why it's happening.
    Thanks again.

  • Windows 7 Toolbar displays generic icon, not Acrobat icon

I hve used Acrobat forever. However, recently, the Windows 7 toolbar has been displaying only a generic icon, not the Acrobat icon, when the program is open. I have not discovered yet how to change the icon in windows 7 (Microsoft always tries to keep such things secret because they are control freaks).

How is the SD card formatted?
Maybe it needs to be in a format that the windows machine will understand, like FAT32.

  • Disk volume mounts displaying generic icon

I've been having a regular problem with a Drobo disk system, which becomes inaccessible periodically.
When I remount the device using
    diskutil mount Drobo
... the volume reappears, but instead of the usual icon:
    I get the generic icon:
Why is this, and is it fixable without physically disconnecting the Drobo's USB cable, and reconnecting?

    Hello Stacie-P8
First welcome to the discussions area.
There are a few things to try before erasing the HD. That would be my last step.
I would try trashing the keyboard preferences. Open the HD go into the system folder, then to the library, then to preference panes. There you will find the prefs for the keyboard. Drag to trash and then see if that helps. The computer will generate new prefs.
Next I would try to borrow a keyboard and see if the problem occurs. It could be a short in the keyboard or a broken wire if it isn't an optical keyboard.
My feeling is that it is related to the keyboard and not the HD.....Jim

  • Cover Flow displays generic icon only for small JPEG files

I recently used the excellent CocoThumbX to strip off all the Adobe preview icons from my Photoshop-created images (a mixture of JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files). That neatly solved the low-res "fuzzy" Cover Flow thumbnail problem lots of users have complained about.
However, now I have a problem that I haven't seen addressed elsewhere. Lots of my JPEG files still appear as generic JPEG icons in Cover Flow. They are all Adobe Photoshop JPEG files, and they are all no larger than 150KB in size. There's nothing wrong with the files as Quick Look displays them without a hitch, and I can open them in Photoshop no problem.
Any idea how to get Cover Flow to render their thumbnails properly?
Resaving them from Photoshop fixes the problem, but I have thousands of such images and don't want to resave all of them even with a batch action if there's some other simple way of fixing this.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 display issue

    Hi all
I have a really weird problem and it only seems to affect certain pages I create but when I go into design view when looking to edit a page, some of the page doesn't display within DW, if I click in the area and go to split view I can see the relevant text showing in the code view or the link to an image if that is what is clicked on.
The only way I can resolve this is to goto the view menu and choose not to display styles under style rendering, then of course I do not see the page as it will look in a browser but I can then edit, insert or remove text which when I then check to display in a browser works fine with all css applied.
These pages in the main were created in DW CS3 so not sure if that is the issue but I just cannot seem to resolve the issue so any advice or ideas would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Omron

Thanks for the reply Bregent, the interesting thing is it displays perfectly well in IE, Firefox and Chrome so not sure it is a code error however here is the code:

  • Footer displayed inaccurately in Dreamweaver CS4 php page

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from Dreamweaver 8 to Dreamweaver CS4. Our organization site uses mostly php pages. When I attempt to open these pages in Dreamweaver CS4 the footer menu bar displays innacurately down through the center of the page and won't allow any edits as it acts like a top layer or something. Usually it acts as a menu bar on the top of any page on our website.
As it should appear from an online screen shot: You'll notice the orange menu bar across the top.
A shot of the Design View in Dreamweaver CS4:  You'll see the menu options are running down the center of the page as text.

This seems like a simple solution but I'm just not sure what it would be.
    Thanks

The live view or preview functions do not work and lead to the error: "Not Found, the requested URL/html/index.php was not found on this server.'   This is another issue that I don't understand.
Unfortunately, I did not develop this website and have a minimal knowledge of html and Dreamweaver.  I'm not sure if I can answer the question about which menu system we're using - would seeing the code of the footer help?   I'll paste below in case.
And just to be clear, the problem only occurs in editing in Dreamweaver, but when uploaded to our server it appears correctly.
    Thanks for your help!

  • 'Browse For File' icon not working in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hello All.
Ever since upgrading my copy of Dreamweaver from version 8 to CS4, I seem to have accounted an annoying bug (?)
If, for example, I want to change an image on a webpage, I would click the image in question on the screen and by using the Properties panel would select a new image by clicking the 'Browse For File' icon in the 'Source File Of Image' section of the panel.
Then I would select the new image, hit 'OK' and the image would be changed.
Now when I do this nothing happens - the original image remains and cannot be altered.
I now have to manually type the link of the new image into the 'Source File Of Image' field, which is a pain.
I have even disabled my firewall and anti-virus just in case these were somehow conflicting but still no change.
    Any ideas anyone please?
    Thanks,
    Jon
Using Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows Vista Home Premium SP2

If Dreamweaver is behaving in an odd way, it frequently means that there is a corrupt personal configuration folder.
Close Dreamweaver, locate the personal configuration folder, and rename it.
When you restart Dreamweaver, it should create a new configuration folder with all the program defaults.
For details of how to find the configuration folder, see this page in the Dreamweaver FAQ.
    Hope this solves your issue.

  • Dreamweaver CS4- I can't get my site to display the proper image.

I have a Dreamweaver CS4 Template with an editable area for a header image. I have already assigned a new image to all the header regions but when I moved the site to the web host the pages will only display the Default header image from the template in the editable region, even though when I check the file name in the Modify Templates window it displays the proper name, but displays the wrong image.
What is wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.

Did you upload the new header image?
This one is currently being displayed.

  • Generic icons are displayed after visiting bookmarks instead of Favicons.

    1. I have done multiple searches over the past month trying to find a resolution to this issue without any success. Somewhere during the last two Firefox updates all of my bookmarks are now displaying the generic icon instead of the specific icon for that URL (i.e. www.doctoroz.com).
    2. The few responses, to the multiple posts for this same issue, have been no help (with a couple needing to be deleted as they don't answer the question (padding posts?)).
    3. Could a Master Thread be created grouping related questions and responses?

If this is a feature, it sucks!

  • I have just updated to ISO 8 and my app icons are not displaying the correct icon but just a generic icon. Anyone had a similar problem?

I have just updated to ISO 8 and my app icons are not displaying the correct icon but just a generic icon. Anyone had a similar problem?

That happened to me for a short period of time after I updated. It didn't do it with all apps, but it did it with a few here and there. Try a few basic standard troubleshooting steps. Close all apps and reset the iPad.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
You can also try resetting all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.
Hopefully it will be something simple, but don't rule out restoring the iOS software, if nothing else works, but start with this easy stuff first.

  • Display JPEG files not on desktop as thumbnails, not generic icons

I understand from previous forum entries that bringing up menu with command-J and checking "show icon preview" will display image files ON THE DESKTOP as thumbnails. This has worked fine for me. However, most of my image files are not on the desktop.
How do I get the system to display all JPEGs and other images not on the desktop as thumbnails. These are in folders, either on the startup volume or on other volumes.
My son who is a PC user was surprised that my Mac image folders contained all those generic icons and not thumbnails, like he is used to on his PC.
Hope there is an easy answer to this, and I greatly appreciate your help.

I have continued working on this issue since I posed the question, and discovered that I have to have my images in "icon display", not "list display" (which I have usually used).
When I changed to icon display, the menu from command-j allowed me to display all my icons as thumbnails.
The menu (command-j) from the list display doesn't give that option, so I was stumped until I stumbled on to this detail.
Thanks again to all who have helped me in the past on these forums. You're the best.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Live View - background-image does not display

I'm teaching a basic Dreamweaver CS4 class, and one of my students happened upon a unique problem.
Although the students were not required to use LiveView for their assignment, the student noticed that when he clicked the LiveView button to look at his assignment, that the background-image property that he set on the #header DIV does not display.
I tried duplicating his problem by building a similar site to his, using the exact same Dreamweaver Starter Page he used, but I'm not able to reproduce it the problem. If I define a new site using the files the student sent me, the problem comes back.
I'm completely stumped. What could possibly be causing the background-image CSS property to stop rendering in Live View?
Thanks for any help at all!

    Hi
Check your students css code for invalid or missing mark-up, or linking to the background image. Another possible problem, (occurs on some sites but not all) is to check if the url is enclosed in quotes as these are occasionally required but not always, also check for spaces in file names
    e.g. - background-image: url(../images/yourimage.jpg); should work but occasional requires quotes as in - background-image: url("../images/yourimage.jpg");

  • Problem with Dreamweaver CS4 workspace

    Hi
I have just installed the Adobe CS4 Design Premium software on my Macbook Pro (OS X) and I have a problem or two with the Dreamweaver CS4 workspac:
    1) When I have no file open, no matter which workspace I choose from the drop down list, I have a "see-through" area where files are generally displayed (see attached screen shot). This means I can see my desktop picture, or any other open files, in the background. This is very desturbing! If I click in that open space it also takes me out of Dreamweaver.
How can I get just a basic grey background in my workspace, instead of the silly see-though??
    2) I have no close, minimize or maximize icons at the top left as I have in Photoshop or Lightroom!?!!  Why is this and how can I get it there?
Thank you very much in advance for anyone who can help!

I have the same problem - just installed Dreamweaver yesterday on mac. Will be interested to see if anyone has a solution for this!
