Dreamweaver CS4 Hangs On Loading

Hi folks!
I have been trying to start Dremweaver and it gets as far as iinitializing browserlab and just hangs.
Does this sound familiar to any one?
bookie56

Ok, I checked around with other people on the team and here's the story: we had to make a number of changes to our login process to be able to work with CS6. Unfortunately those changes are completely incompatible with DW CS4. We're not sure why your copy of DW is hanging on startup (maybe there's a login dialog waiting for a response in the background or something), but even if it wasn't hanging I'm sorry to say that the BrowserLab plug-in for Dreamweaver just won't work with DW CS4 any longer, and there is no way for us to fix this issue.
That's the bad news. The slightly better news is that if you make use of the BrowserLab for Firebug add-on, you still should be able to edit local content in DW and preview that local content in BrowserLab. The workflow is described in this blog post: http://blogs.adobe.com/browserlab/2011/08/22/testing-private-content-with-browserlab/
Hope this helps,
Mark

    Hi,
When booted in Safe Mode on XP, Dreamweaver CS4 works fine.
However opening Dreamweaver when booted in normal mode, causing it
to hang at the splash screen. Any idea on finding out what is
    causing it to hang? Thanks.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Hangs

I just purchased a new Dreamweaver CS4 and have installed it
5 times, uninstalled 4 times on my Windows Vista Premium machine.
When starting I get splash screen and that's it. I was on phone
with Adobe support for about an hour and they could not figure out
issue. If I install on different computer it works fine. Any advise
    welcome.

If you're using an Acer computer, there's a known conflict
    between
Dreamweaver and Acer eDataSecurity Management V3.0. You can

  • Dreamweaver CS4 hang on putting files - requires coldstart

Is there a hot fix for the issue where Dreamweaver hangs during file put operations from test site to development folder?
Very anoying to have to use windows task manager to kill the program when it hangs and clicking "cancel" does not cancel the upload / download operation.
    Also..
Is adobe aware that most of the content on their site takes between 2 to 3 minutes to display a page?
Appears to be a huge amount of overhead for some very simple page displays...
    Gaver

    Hello Mark,
    Thanks for your reply...
I'm working from three different computers to generate the site content.
I usually use the production server as the repository for "current" files and download from there to the "test" server for editing on computer # 2 and # 3. I download the files to the webserver on the local pc, then use the get option to move the files from the local webserver to the working file location in another directory on the same computer.
After downloading the files from production, I use the "synchronize" Get / Put options to move the files from the "test" server to the directory where DW stores the "working" copy of the files. It's during the move / synchronization process where it hangs and requires a Windows Task Manager "End Process" to stop the continuous cycle of trying to move the file(s). Very frustrating... happens quite often.
    Regarding Adobe Web Performance...
Nearly all pages on their site take 2 to 3 minutes to download, those using a TinyMCE editor take longer.
I'm on a cable connection to the internet at work, and a FIOS connection at home - and all other sites I visit download in an acceptable amount of time - including those I built ;)
I'm using winxp pro at work on one of 5 computers, xp home on 4 of them, and win98 at home. All of them are experiencing the same poor performance from Adobe's website. MSN; Yahoo; Google; SurfboardSigns all load in fast manner for me - regardless of browser cache settings.
I suspect the overhead of the javascript / flash routines and libraries that are linked in the body of the adobe pages may account for as much as 10 megs of file transfers per page, which appear to not be cached and require a fresh download for every page. There are certain elements on their pages that lag behind the majority of other content and more often than not the pages "bounce" after loading - meaning once the load is complete - something in their javascript code causes the page to "refresh" immediately - which causes another "hang and wait" scenario, doubling the displeasure.
I would suspect that Adobe is creating different pages for different media displays.. eg Mobile vs PC - it's possible your iPhone browser restricts the javascript overhead associated with their standard PC web pages and instead produces pages optimized for a much smaller foot print and bandwidth connection - phones...
BTW - this isn't new, I've been dealing with the Adobe website performance problem now for sometime... it's finally gotten to a point where their content isn't worth the frustration of trying to get to it though... I really hope they will reconsider the "value added" of the bells and whistles on their pages and provide a "reasonable bandwidth and cpu cycle" equivalent to their current site content.
    Thanks again,
    Gaver

  • Dreamweaver CS4 hangs while trying to insert Spry Tooltip widget

I tried it several times - through Insert panel, and Insert - Spry... menu in Dreamweaver. It hangs deadly right after insert operation.
So i had to make it manually, inserting the code and attaching CSS+JS files.
I've already made an official request to Adobe (and just in case - i'm using XP SP2).
    Any ideas?

As i discover it now, an attempt to insert ANY Spry widget leads to hanging the Dreamwever. Something went wrong with it.
    How can i fix this?

  • Dreamweaver CS4 hangs on images folder - please help!

We are running DW CS4 with Subversion integration for version control.  Whenever we try to open the images folder on our local site copies, DW hangs for what seems like an eternity - usually 5 minutes - before opening.  I've replicated this behavior on both a mac and a windows platform.  On a mac at least, the problem goes away when version control is disabled.
Has anyone else encountered the problem and resolved it?  We want to use version control but if we cannot end this behavior it may render the version control worthless becase of the performance hit our operations will take.
Any help would be extremely appreciated.

This post has been up now for almost two weeks and nobody has responded from Adobe.  I have also been working with Adobe support who have asked theat I delete and recreate the preferences folder and clean up temporary files.  None of these steps have worked.  The behav ior is strikingly consistent - delays of between 3 and 6 minutes to open an images folder, with exactly the same delay each time on the affected site, and absolutely no delay once version control is turned off.
Is anybody else experiencing this?  Though I am willing to acknoweldge the possibility there could be config issues specific to our installation, this issue It has the smell of a bug within the version control setup itself.  I would ask anyone else using integfrated version control with DW CS4 to let me know if they have seen this problem.  Thank you.

The only solution so far that really works is as per this document:

It seems these old products had lots of these problems;  Perhaps activation technology was still in its infancy at that time.

  • Design View Issue Dreamweaver CS4 - Taking forever to load design view

I am having an issue where my site takes literally almost a full day to load in design view. Once it is loaded everything works seemlessly but once I close down Dreamweaver and reopen it, I have to wait another day to get to design view of my site. All files open just fine in code view.
I have deleted the Dreamweaver CS4 cache folder, completely formatted my drive and reinstalled creative suite. I have also validated my code on W3c and everything checks out fine.
The majority of my site is based off of a template, but even when I remove all the template references in the html files from Notepad I am still having the same issue. My site renders fine and quickly however on Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.
When loading any other site off the web into Dreamweaver I do not run into the problem so there must be something wrong with how my site is set up. Either the Template file is no good or somewhere else I am falling short. Can someone, please, please, please ( I am begging) help me figure out what is going on here.
My index file is located at - http://www.thebluedot.net/index.html and the template file is located at - http://www.thebluedot.net/Templates/index.dwt
I have searched high and low and even made a post on this same topic about a month ago but never came up with a resolution to my issue. I had given up on finding a solution to this problem for some time, but I really need to figure out where I am going wrong here!
    Additional Details -
I am running - Windows Vista Ultimate on a Core 2 Processor with 12 GB of Ram & Solid State Hard Drive. Everything on my system runs super smoothly except loading my site in Dreamweaver CS4 design view.
I really appreciate any help you can provide.

I have used CS2 Adobe GoLive to create and manage a website (pro-prosperity.com).  Now, I have CS4 Dreamweaver.  I got a new site set up on Dreamweaver using the site management facility.  I then have the contents of website available locally on Dreamweaver.  I can edit files.  But the main home page, index.html, is not displaying on design view mode for editing, although it displays everything on live view mode.  I have struggled for days and am not getting any difference in attributes of index.html and another .html that is displaying fine on design view and is editable.
I am really lost and am begging for any help.  Can you, for example, copy the home page from pro-prosperity.com and display on design view and edit it?  Please tell me what is in this file that is troublesome.  Thanks.
The first thing you should do is to make sure that this feature is turned on (it's off by default):
View > Code View Options > Highlight Invalid Html
It's not perfect, but it will notify you of some problems. In Code View, there are many problems highlighted. Some of them don't make sense, but are triggered because of a problem with a parent tag.
Be sure to make a backup copy of your file before doing the next step. Close your page. Go to Preferences > Code Rewriting, and turn on "Fix invalidly nested and unclosed tags", "Remove extra closing tags", and "Warn when fixing or removing tags". Click OK, then re-open your page. The messages in the dialog to tell you what was changed. This allowed me to see your page in Design View (I am using CS5).
Note: I suggested that you reset your preferences to turn off those 3 settings as they can cause problems with some markup.
In the long term, I suggest that you avoid nesting tables wherever possible.
    Hope this helps,
    Randy

Hi..............I have a new Creative Cloud registration and have bought the new Dreamweaver CC but I cannot seem to down load it? My Creative Cloud has downloaded but not my new Dreamweaver CC?  I currently have the old Dreamweaver CS4 on my system! Can anyone help?

The first thing you need to do is download and install the Creative Cloud Desktop Application. Then, open that program and click on the Apps tab. You download and install creative cloud applications from there.
If your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements to run a given program, it won't show up under the Apps tab.
Once they are installed, you'll need to go to your Applications folder (Mac) or Program Files (x86) folder (PC) to start the program itself.

  • No Fix for Dreamweaver CS4 not loading?

I am seeing more and more recently that people are experiencing the crashing DW effect. Does anyone have a fix for this, or are we stuck until adobe finally corrects the issue? I have read tons of posts on here and other forums, but nothing seems to fix the problem. All I know, my DW worked fine for a very long time, and all of a sudden it no longer loads. When trying to start the program I get an immediate crash (doesn't let the program even get to the splash screen). Now this happens all the time, and I have tried every fix I have read about so far. I even formatted and started all over from scratch. I only installed adobe products after the format, and let the updater do its thing. Once I did this, DW started crashing all over again. This is definately a problem that needs to be corrected ASAP. I see a current download for CS5 to fix the crashing with that program, but nothing even remote to fixing CS4. Has anyone experience these problems after an adobe update?

Yes, I think it is the installer doing something as well.  Here is what I did.... I have been using the download link from my account on adobe to install dreamweaver cs4. After numerous times of not working I tried install the new cs 5.5 and it works like a charm.  After this I tried installing my old dw 8 and it also works like a charm. So, after 2 versions installed that work, I have come to the conclusion that the cs4 download from adobe has to be the problem. Once I figured this, I called support. Let me tell you, this was the most terrible experience ever. 3 and a half hours of numerous people connecting to me and transfering me back and forth to get no end result. I called again today (1 and a half more hours), another rep connects and does everything the others did to no solution once again. I say look 3 people, 2 supervisors and nothing is fixed, can you just give me another version (cs3, cs5, cs5.5, ANYTHING) so I can get back to work. Basically I am told they are going to escalate and I now have to wait for another call back and go through all the same steps as before. Adobe is seriously lacking in customer support or appreciation for buying these expensive products.
To break it down, 3 people connected...uninstalled, installed, deleted a ton of stuff, reinstalled, created a new user account disabled all start up services and installed dreamweaver and still isnt fixed. They have tried everything, and they cant fix it.... 2 of them even said the installer seems to not be doing something correctly, and the other tried to feed me a line of bull saying dreamweaver cs4 wasnt supporting vista 64??? I had to laugh and explain that I am running fw cs4 and acrobat pro 8 and flash and other progs that work just fine on vista 64 lol.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Not Loading

Hi, Im having problems loading Dreamweaver CS4, when i open the software all i get is the windows loading mouse cursor then nothing. Dreamweaver is showing in task manager under processes but does not allow me to do anything except end process. I have tried all the idea's on the Adobe help site, these included removing the Winfilecach-xxxx.dat file. Also renaming the Dreamweaver CS4 folder to old and then removing the CS4 key from regedit and restarting Dreamweaver did not fix the problem.
I have not tried to uninstall the software and reinstall yet as im unable to find the product key.
Software installed - Adobe Suite CS4 which all the software seems to be working fine just dreamweaver is not loading.
Dreamweaver is running on a 64bit version of Windows 7 professional. I have not had any problems with the software for over a year just this morning it has decided not to load. Have tried restarting the computer which then allowed me to load up a file, once i closed the file and restarted Dreamweaver same problem started occuring again.
Any help will be much appreaciated
    Chris

    Chris.Norton wrote:
Thanks for the link, i have tried what was suggested but this still hasnt fixed the problem. The software does however load up when used under a different profile.
Chris that sounds like a corrupt user profile from the OS.  This happens from time-to-time where the files/folders/permissions of the user library get corrupted and the recommended solution is migrating data to another user account on the computer.  Eventually you delete the old user account once you have moved everything moved to the new one.
