Dreamweaver CS4 locks up for 5-10 secs at a time

Hi,
We are having this strange problem with Dreamweaver CS4. When coding, Dreamweaver CS4 just freezes for a few seconds, then works fine for a few mins, then does it again. If I keep typing when it's frozen, the Dreamweaver window changes to a faded white color, then comes alive again.
Needless to say this is extremely annoying when coding and want to fix it. There are two developers here both having the same problem with DW CS4. We are working on the same local site root on our network but can't see how that should be a problem.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

It sounds like you might have your Site's Local folder defined on a Network Drive. If that's the case, try using a local hard drive.
There were some specific cases that were fixed for working on Networks drives in DW CS5, so give try 30-day trial to see if that helps.

  • CourseBuilder for Adobe Dreamweaver CS4

I posted this question in the Dreamweaver Extensions Forum; but wonder if it should also be posted in a more general location. Please excuse this cross posting.
In CourseBuilder Help > Getting Started > Learning CourseBuilder for Dreamweaver:
    \Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration\CourseBuilder\Help\ContextHelp.htm
    I find:
"Learning CourseBuilder for Adobe Dreamweaver CS4"
"The CourseBuilder for Dreamweaver CS4 package contains a variety of resources to help you learn the program quickly and become proficient in creating your own Web page interactions."
"These resources include online help pages that appear in your browser, a tutorial, and a printed book."
Where is this printed book to be found?
"In addition, the CourseBuilder for Dreamweaver CS4 Support Center site is updated regularly."
What is the URL of this site?
I'm am very pleased to see CourseBuilder updated for Dreamweaver CS4, but can only find it included with the eLearning Suite.
Is it also available else where?
I would appreciate any help anyone can give,
    Thank you,

I'm a little frustrated too. I have the web premium suite of CS4 products and I very much need to publish my dreamweaver course in a SCORM package. I also need to use the interactions etc. available in Coursebuilder. It doesn't seem right that I have paid a lot of money for the web premium package but can't get coursebuilder. The coursebuilder version that works in dreamweaver 8 doesn't work in cs4.
RapidIntake has the coursebuilder version for dreamweaver 8 but they don't have one for cs4.
Is there no solution to this problem other than buying the eLearning suite?

  • Fix Dreamweaver CS4 Color Eyedropper Bug

Dreamweaver locks up when using the eyedropper from the CSS
panel to select/match a color from any object in Design view.
Easiest to explain by describing a split view. Dreamweaver locks
every time -- when placing cursor in a background color code in a
style sheet, then going to the CSS panel and selecting the
background color swatch for that style, then with the eyedropper,
touching a color in the Design view part of the split screen.
Dreamweaver CS3 never locked up when performing these same
steps. Dreamweaver CS4, locks up whether selecting a color in a
bitmap or a CSS background color that is displayed in the Design
split view. Means I have to go to Fireworks to color match, and if
the color I want is in a range of a gradient, I have to make the
gradient a bitmap before selecting the spot with the eyedropper. I
even had some difficulty in Fireworks, as the selection wouldn't
show up in the color panel when I touched the bitmap with the
eyedropper. I could see the color code in the popup color selector
and clicked there for the color to show up in Fireworks' color
    panel.
Kind of a hassle...would be nice to get an update fix for
    this.

  • In Dreamweaver CS4, can't get sidebar background to expand to 100%

I'm using the standard Dreamweaver-CS4-generated template for a fixed-width 2-column page (i.e., left menu column and main column) with a header and footer. This is the "2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and  footer."
I'd like to have an overall body background (x,y repeated - that seems easy to do) and a left menu column repeated (x,y repeated ).  Alas, the comments that are generated with the template imply that you just can't do that.  I've tried all sorts of height=100% conbinations, but they don't seem to work.
    Any ideas?

Unlike table columns, CSS columns don't communicate with each other.  The height of a division is determined by how much content is inside it.  And that value may be longer or shorter than adjacent columns.
TO CREATE EQUAL HEIGHT CSS COLUMNS:
Option 1. Start with an Equal Height CSS Layout
    http://matthewjamestaylor.com/blog/equal-height-columns-cross-browser-css-no-hacks
Option 2. Faux Columns (repeating background image).  The easiest method.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2653416#2653416
Option 3. JavaScript -- may not work in all layouts.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Auto-Indent Ruined

Auto-indenting in CS3 was great. When you hit the
enter/return key in dreamweaver, the type cursor was taken to the
next line, tabbed into the same depth as the previous line. In
Dreamweaver CS4 however, Adobe has tried to make it more
intelligent (when it didn't need to be), and as a result have
    ruined the auto-indent feature.
When coding in javascript, dreamweaver cs4's auto-indent
functionality is unpredictable and 9 times out of 10, isn't as you
expected. This is incredibly annoying. It seems the problem occurs
when coding an anonymous javascript function within parenthesis (a
common/required jQuery practice). Dreamweaver, trying to be all
intelligent indents the next line of code to where the previous
    line ended. Example...
Edit: Stupid forum has no way to display tabs, therefore I can't
demonstrate what dreamweaver is doing to my code, another great
    piece of work by Adobe.
Does anyone know how to disable the auto-indent intelligence
in CS4 and make it how it use to be in CS3? I'm bubbling with
absolute frustration at the moment as I just want to code, but
can't without getting even more agitated.
    Thanks

I was having a problem with the auto-indenting in CS3 while coding javascript and I found a solution. The best way to fix it would be to edit the properties file with the number you prefer, but I don't know where that file is. However, if you follow these steps it will automatically update it for you. It's strange the way it works but hey, whatever.
Note: I'm only sure this works in CS3, can't be sure about CS4.
    1. Use the icton that's next to the refresh circle to turn auto-indenting off. (The icon fades from yellow to white and looks like a bullet list. It's on the same row as the code, split, design buttons.)
    2. Find a line in your javascript, such as $('a').click( funtion(){, and hit enter to go to the next line.
    3. Tab over to where the indent SHOULD be (in your opinion).
    4. Turn auto-indent back on using that same icon in step 1.
That's it. If you delete your new line then hit enter again your cursor should tab to the place you last left it. Dreamweaver seems to update it's calculations and now seems to get it right.
    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Mac - Welcome Screen Is Blank Under Network Account

This is a new installation of Dreamweaver CS4 on a computer running Mac OS X 10.5.7 in a computer lab environment.  All updates have been applied.  Users' home folders are hosted via AFP on a server running Mac OS X Server 10.5.7.  The "welcome screen" window that appears after launching Dreamweaver CS4 is blank for users using network accounts (both admin and non-admin).  The welcome screen appears correctly when launched from within a local accounts (admin or non-admin).  The welcome screen window can be closed and then the application appears to run just fine.  Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a solution?

Some clues: Apparently, the "welcome screen" is an .swf file located in each user's home directory here:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS4/en_US/Configuration/Content/Welcome/Flash/welcome.swf
I can open this file in Flash or Flash Player under a network account and it looks just fine, yet it won't load when Dreamweaver CS4 is launched, resulting in a blank, white "welcome screen."
For now, I've decided to push a default preferences file to new users that turns off the welcome screen, but I'd prefer to find a fix. Anyone have any clues?

  • In dreamweaver CS4, I can't make border for single cell

    Hi folks,
Having given up trying to make a single cell border in the dreamweaver CS4 template, I reverted to an html page and put in my own header, 2 columns and footer as cells in the html table. I know there's html code for adding borders to single cell, but I can't find it. I hope someone can give me a sample line of html code for giving a cell a border on left side and on right side, including 1px solid color border. Anyone?

Not sure if this is what you want, at least it will give you an example

  • 'Browse For File' icon not working in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hello All.
Ever since upgrading my copy of Dreamweaver from version 8 to CS4, I seem to have accounted an annoying bug (?)
If, for example, I want to change an image on a webpage, I would click the image in question on the screen and by using the Properties panel would select a new image by clicking the 'Browse For File' icon in the 'Source File Of Image' section of the panel.
Then I would select the new image, hit 'OK' and the image would be changed.
Now when I do this nothing happens - the original image remains and cannot be altered.
I now have to manually type the link of the new image into the 'Source File Of Image' field, which is a pain.
I have even disabled my firewall and anti-virus just in case these were somehow conflicting but still no change.
    Any ideas anyone please?
    Thanks,
    Jon
Using Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows Vista Home Premium SP2

If Dreamweaver is behaving in an odd way, it frequently means that there is a corrupt personal configuration folder.
Close Dreamweaver, locate the personal configuration folder, and rename it.
When you restart Dreamweaver, it should create a new configuration folder with all the program defaults.
For details of how to find the configuration folder, see this page in the Dreamweaver FAQ.
    Hope this solves your issue.

  • Trial version of Dreamweaver CS4 for testing - co-exist with CS3?

I am very interested in trying InContext.  However it requires Dreamweaver CS4 to do anything.  I noted a way to download a trial version.  My concern however is that I have the CS3 version installed, and I need to know if the two can co-exist or if loading CS4 is going to disable/remove CS3.  It would be helpful to know if the same answer applies for both Mac and Windows cases.
If InContext either is not a better solution to my needs that Contribute, or if the costs are too high then I would not anticipate buying the CS4 version (apparently I would have to upgrade the whole CS3 Master Collection I have in order to accomplish that - no small expense) and I don't want to run into a problem.

    Hello Bobxyzyy,
Yes, you can install the Dreamweaver CS4 trial without affecting your installation of Dreamweaver CS3 on both Mac and Windows. They will install into separate directories by default.

  • Is separate graphics card needed for Dreamweaver CS4?

My PC (an HP Pavilion a1120n) meets the stated system
requirements for Dreamweaver CS4, except that it has integrated
graphics (max of 128MB) instead of a separate video card. I can
easily upgrade to 4MB of RAM. Could anyone please tell me whether
Dreamweaver will run on my machine, or whether I need to invest in
a new PC. A potential free-lance job rides on this question. Many
    thanks!

To be honest, all you really need is a crappy old computer
    and Notepad.
I'll admit that this may be a really bare-bones way to start,
    though.
In my opinion, the best was would be to get the Adobe
    Creative Suite 4 Web
Premium package. It is a pricey bird, though ($1,699 domestic
    for a full
copy - not upgrade). I'm assuming you want to stick with
