  • Dreamweaver CS4 software updates

    Hi Folks,
I purchased Dreamweaver CS4 (version 10) some years ago, and just reinstalled the software. The product launches fine. I'm trying to re-install any patches for this product, but can't seem to find any on the Adobe site. The Updates... function is no longer working for CS4 due to this product being retired. I noticed on the Dreamweaver patches/updates site Adobe - Dreamweaver Support Center : Updaters (    http://www.adobe.com/support/dreamweaver/downloads_updaters.html ) there are patches for editions of Dreamweaver earlier and later than CS4 / Version 10. Interesting.
Anyone know if this is an oversight by Adobe? I chatted with customer service, who directed me to this forum. I may end up purchasing the new Adobe Creative Cloud products, but wanted to check with you first.
    Thanks,
      Jeff

    Hello Jeffrey^,

For some reasons I have DW CS4 still on my PC. But at the present time I'm working mainly with DW CC. This might be of interest:

  • Website created in Dreamweaver CS4 doesn't look right in CS6

I used to have an old version of Dreamweaver (CS4 I think) and my laptop got taken out by a lightening strike.  I have had to purchase Dreamweaver CS6 and I have loaded up my website (files recovered from hard drive) but the pages don't look right - wrong colours, wrong font, text missing, buttons not displayed properly etc.  any help gratefully received!

Are you sure site files on your hard drive were not damaged by the electrical surge?
Can you GET replacement files from your remote server?

  • Where to download Dreamweaver CS4

I am currently using a textbook that follows CS4, and I have downloaded CS5. But I have noticed several differences between the two. To make things simpler and easier follow, I would like to download CS4. I have searched for the link, but the only links I am getting are links to CS5. Does anyone know where I can download a trial version of CS4?

In the past when a new version comes out, Adobe takes down the earlier product trials.
If you don't have CS4 already, I don't know where you could get it except to purchase a copy from Amazon.com

  • Menus.xml issue when trying to launch Dreamweaver CS4

I have used Dreamweaver CS4 for many years on my Mac. I had a drive failure and have had to reload all of my applications from scratch as there seemed to be an issue with the Time Machine back up. Everything is working well apart from Dreamweaver CS4 which brings up an error message telling me to delete my menus.xml file and rename menus.bak to menus.xml which just doesn't work.
I have checked and this has been asked before but none of the previous answers that I could find will work for me. Any new ideas?

One issue appears to be that Dreamweaver has loaded the help and configurations files into a folder in applications rather than in application support. I do not have a Dreamweaver CS4 folder anywhere in applications support under my identity or than of the loacl admin.
You need to turn on your hidden folders to see it.

  • Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menus.xml file

So, after having trouble with my Photoshop scratch disk, I had to do an archive and install of my Mac OS 10.6.1 then reinstall the Adobe suite. I then had to run the Licensing Repair Tool (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html).
Now everything works but Dreamweaver, which is throwing the following error:
"Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menus.xml file.
Please delete the current menus.xml file and rename menus.bak to menus.xml"
I tried that. menus.bak is a directory, not a file. Even renaming the directory didn't work.
    I saw this http://forums.adobe.com/message/2188511#2188511
but I don't have a /FlashPlayerTrust/ directory, nor do I see what that has to do with Dreamweaver.
I couldn't find a corresponding solution for this http://forums.adobe.com/message/862339#862339 for the Mac OS.
    This http://forums.adobe.com/message/3396334#3396334 didn't help, either.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks!

This is the error I got after deleting (moving) the configuration directory.
"No document types have been found in the Configuration/DocumentTypes/ folder. The MMDocumentTypes.xml file may be missing or corrupted. The application will exit now."
I've reinstalled the entire Adobe CS4 (which fixed my Photoshop problem but created this Dreamweaver problem) and then reinstalled Dreamweaver alone.
I've also attached a screenshot of the Dreamweaver directory tree with the menus.xml files.

    Thanks,

The code is too long. Let's do it this way, did you change anything on the default css of the SPRY menu?
just my thought, why don't you remove it from the table? That might be the cause. Try to think of an alternative way like using divs and css.

  • HELP DREAMWEAVER CS4 NOW SHOWS BORDERS AROUND SPACERS

Really, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
What the heck is going on with this company?
Is Abode just trying to do all they can to destroy the once great Macromedia products? Or chase away shareholders?
I made a HUGE mistake using Dreamweaver CS4, to "upgrade" my personal website, and suddenly my spacers are viewable with gray borders around them. AND all my flash content is no longer viewable.
Sorry, Adobe I'm busy trying to make a living in a really bad economy, and actually have a personal life.
I don't want to spend my life trying to figure out your attempts at making new code.
They make these large sloppy programs, worse and worse and worse with each version release.
Is there a way to get rid of these horrible looking spacer borders without having to go back to school and REDO my engineering degree?
    Geez!
I give Adobe an F for effort.

The apparent spaces with borders are actually missing images which you have not uploaded to the images folder.
    The files
    http://www.stackjones.com/images/blackspacer.jpg
    and
    http://www.stackjones.com/images/white%20spacer.jpg
do not exist on the server.

  • Synchronize problem with Dreamweaver CS4

    Hi all,
I was wondering whether any of you can offer any advice or help with a problem I have with Dreamweaver CS4.
The problem is regarding the Synchronize feature within Dreamweaver, for example after I have made a change to a web page and want to upload this to the internet, the software detects what files have changed which is fine but against the file it has the word and symbol called "Resolve" and this is where I am stuck because I cannot click on the Resolve button to change it to "Put" because the icon is grey so therfore I am unable to upload any changes to any websites.
If anybody can help me then it would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Daniel

    Hi Hans- G
Many Thanks for this. I will go and have a look. It is strange as I have never experienced this problem before.
    Cheers

  • XML Parsing Error when opening Dreamweaver CS4

Hi guys, I downloaded a trial version of Dreamweaver CS4
which was downloaded from the adobe website and once i try
installing it it comes up with 'please delete current menus.xml
file and then rename menus.bak file to menus.xml'. Once I tried
that the new renamed xml file has the same problem as the old one.
Now, When i opened up the file in Firefox it came up with an XML
Parsing error. The exact error is as below:
XML Parsing Error: prefix not bound to a namespace
    Location:
    file:///C:/Program%20Files/Adobe/Adobe%20Dreamweaver%20CS4/configuration/Menus/menus.xml
    Line Number 12, Column 5: <shortcut
    mmstring:name="menus/DWShortcuts_Main_Quit" key="Opt+F4"
    command="dw.quitApplication()" id="DWShortcuts_Main_Quit" />
    ----^
I am running windows XP SP3. Can anyone offer an
insight/possible solution? I've already tried the following methods
which have been suggested by other forums:
CS4 clean script on Adobe website
    Microsoft installer clean up
uninstall and reinstall all CS4/adobe products
    deleting Cache.db
    deleting Macromedia folder
deleting faulty line in menus.xml file
Is there anything else I can do? Thanks guys!

    1) Close Dreamweaver
    2) Navigate to the Design.xml file and rename it.
    3) Launch Dreamweaver and it will recreate the Design.xml file
The AppData folder is hidden by default on Windows, so you need to enable the option to view hidden files and folders in order to locate it, as follows:
In Vista/Windows 7, select Start > Computer > Organize > Folder and Search Options > View. In Advanced settings, choose Show hidden files and folders.
In Windows XP, select Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View. In Advanced settings, choose Show hidden files and folders.
Once you turn on this option, hidden folders are displayed as dimmed icons to remind you to treat them with care.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Serial Number Activation

I used to have Dreamweaver CS4 on my computer. I recently changed laptop so I desactivated the serial number and desinstalled the software. I am now trying to reinstall it on my new laptop but the serial number is not recognized. Any ideas on what I should do?

Was your previous version a Student/Teacher or Volume Licensed Edition from a reseller?
    Find your serial number quickly
Have you logged in to your Adobe account to confirm you have the correct serial number?
    Adobe ID
Unfortunately, most of us are product users like yourself. So a bad serial number is beyond our scope of authority.  That's something only Adobe can help you with.

  • Losing formatting in Dreamweaver CS4 site

    Hello all! So frustrated!
I have built the rough design of a site in Dreamweaver CS4 using tables to do a lot of the formatting for a lot of information. For some reason, all of a sudden I have lost all table formatting when the site is viewed in any browser. In addition, I have lost some of my spry menu formatting (background color of menu bar) and hyperlink formatting when viewed online even though absolutely nothing looks wrong to me on the design view. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Two examples...they are different as we are still deciding on colors:
    http://www.aldopineschiconsulting.com/index.html
    http://www.aldopineschiconsulting.com/organizations.html

All browsers will view html and css errors differently. DW Design View isn't a browser though and typically shows you something other than what will be viewed in the real browsers. You can't rely on it for giving you anything but an approximation of what your site could look like.
Always use Preview In Browser to see your actual page in the various browsers. IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera are the minimums I test for on Desktops. I test iOS Safari and Android for mobile by putting everything on a local test server and accessing it via WiFi with a couple of phones (since every emulator I've seen so far has been just as bad as DW's Design View).
HTML and CSS errors are a major cause of display problems/differences between the various browsers/versions/platforms. You should become very familiar with the validators. In addition to the one already given, here is the CSS validator: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
