Dreamweaver CS4 vs CS5 putting files

I have both versions installed on my computer. I can put files in CS4 to the server. When I close out of CS4 and use CS5 it (CS5) will not put a file to the server. I can do the test fine and it connects. I have copied all the settings and they are the same. I am useing the ip address of the server. I have disabled the firewall and have tried all settings for FTP type. Then when I go back to CS4 with my  firewall turned on the connection works fine I can up load and download as usual. Is there some type of variation on how the two versions work? Any other idea of what to try?

I deleated the Server from CS5 and then closed the program. Opened the CS4 version exported the settings and then imported into CS5 then tried to put the file and it would not go error message says  "
test.html - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put test.html.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.   Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.
File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.
Files with errors: 1
test.html"
So then I go back to CS4 and it works. In between I have deleated the file off the remote server so that it does not have to overwrite the information.  Pretty wierd.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 hang on putting files - requires coldstart

Is there a hot fix for the issue where Dreamweaver hangs during file put operations from test site to development folder?
Very anoying to have to use windows task manager to kill the program when it hangs and clicking "cancel" does not cancel the upload / download operation.
    Also..
Is adobe aware that most of the content on their site takes between 2 to 3 minutes to display a page?
Appears to be a huge amount of overhead for some very simple page displays...

    Hello Mark,
    Thanks for your reply...
I'm working from three different computers to generate the site content.
I usually use the production server as the repository for "current" files and download from there to the "test" server for editing on computer # 2 and # 3. I download the files to the webserver on the local pc, then use the get option to move the files from the local webserver to the working file location in another directory on the same computer.
After downloading the files from production, I use the "synchronize" Get / Put options to move the files from the "test" server to the directory where DW stores the "working" copy of the files. It's during the move / synchronization process where it hangs and requires a Windows Task Manager "End Process" to stop the continuous cycle of trying to move the file(s). Very frustrating... happens quite often.
    Regarding Adobe Web Performance...
Nearly all pages on their site take 2 to 3 minutes to download, those using a TinyMCE editor take longer.
I'm on a cable connection to the internet at work, and a FIOS connection at home - and all other sites I visit download in an acceptable amount of time - including those I built ;)
I'm using winxp pro at work on one of 5 computers, xp home on 4 of them, and win98 at home. All of them are experiencing the same poor performance from Adobe's website. MSN; Yahoo; Google; SurfboardSigns all load in fast manner for me - regardless of browser cache settings.
I suspect the overhead of the javascript / flash routines and libraries that are linked in the body of the adobe pages may account for as much as 10 megs of file transfers per page, which appear to not be cached and require a fresh download for every page. There are certain elements on their pages that lag behind the majority of other content and more often than not the pages "bounce" after loading - meaning once the load is complete - something in their javascript code causes the page to "refresh" immediately - which causes another "hang and wait" scenario, doubling the displeasure.
I would suspect that Adobe is creating different pages for different media displays.. eg Mobile vs PC - it's possible your iPhone browser restricts the javascript overhead associated with their standard PC web pages and instead produces pages optimized for a much smaller foot print and bandwidth connection - phones...
BTW - this isn't new, I've been dealing with the Adobe website performance problem now for sometime... it's finally gotten to a point where their content isn't worth the frustration of trying to get to it though... I really hope they will reconsider the "value added" of the bells and whistles on their pages and provide a "reasonable bandwidth and cpu cycle" equivalent to their current site content.
    Thanks again,
    Gaver

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Site creation puts unwanted folders from desktop into File Panel Window

Dreamweaver CS4: My root folder is on the desktop, and everytime I create a new site, inside the Site in the Files Panel it has my folders/files on my desktop in addition to my root folder. How do I prevent this and just have ONLY my project folder in my site folder?
    L Sienna

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Your Desktop is just a folder, but it's not like any other folder on your HD. The more "crap" you keep on it, the slower your system will run, because Windows Explorer (not the browser - the one that opens and manages all of your windows) interacts with it ALL THE TIME so the more stuff it has to go through to run DW, or Photoshop or Windows Media Player or whatever, the bigger the drag on WIndows. The same for Mac OS X and FInder.
Put your site(s) in their own folder in your documents where the most active folder on your HD doesn't have to constantly update with every letter you type in a page.

  • CS4 and CS5 installation files

    Hello,
I've written an extension in two versions - one for PS CS4 (packed with Extension Manager CS4), one for PS CS5 (packed with Extension Manager CS5).
The CS5 .zxp file correctly opens EM CS5, that installs it in PS CS5. Fine.
In a computer where both Creative Suites are installed, I've found that the CS4 .mxp installer is by default opened by EM CS5, which puts it in PS CS5 even if the CS4 extension won't work  - this is probably "normal", but I already foresee users complain that... "it's broken/it's not there/I don't know".
One solution is to distribute the installers with big warnings; nevertheless, is there a way to make a CS4 installer (mxp file) that will be, by default, opened by CS4 version of Extension Manager and not CS5?
    Thanks in advance,
    Davide

In my opinion, there is no final solution. For one filename extension (*.mxp in this issue), OS can has a and only a DEFAULT handler program associated with it. If specified, OS will launch this program to open the file double-clicked.
However, a filename extension can be associated with multiple programs. These programs will be listed after "Open with" in context menu when a file is right clicked. So the alternative is to write a reg file and import it into windows registry (if you use windows) to associate both EM CS4 and EM CS5 with .mxp. As a result, you can choose to open .mxp installer with EM CS4 or EM CS5 when you right click .mxp file.

  • HELP DREAMWEAVER CS4 NOT SHOWING SWF FILES

I have a presentation in 2 days in Tokyo. And I'm panicking.
I'm on am Intel Mac OS X 10.4.11.
I have the latest version of Flash Player 10 installed. (Not the brand new beta version).
I created a great website in Dreamweaver MX a few years ago.
I never had ANY issues with .swf files displaying until using Dreamweaver CS4.
I updated my photography portfolios in Adobe Bridge, and used Dreamweaver CS4 to link the updates.
    NOTHING MORE THAN THAT!
Then, NONE of the .swf files that were always viewable are showing.
There is absolutely NO Flash content showing on any page of the site now.
Not even in browser view in Safari, or Firefox.
I uploaded the files along with the newly created SCRIPTS folder to my server, and still no .swf files are viewable.
These are NOT FLV files they are .swf files that were imbedded properly, and were always viewable. Until now.
I have to go to Tokyo in two days and give a presentation of this site.
    What is the problem?
The attached files show the view in Dreamweaver CS4. The view in Safari, and the view in Firefox.
I'm screwed for a desperately needed job in Tokyo if I can't get this fixed ASAP.
    Please help.

i think you are on to something here. but i am not sure how to go about fixing this.
    are you saying the "../s
    should be replaced with "S
where is this code located? in the source code of each page that has the swf files? i should replace it with the correct version you copy and pasted? and that should resolve the problem?
big thanks if this is the issue.
    <script src="../scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
The correct link to that file would be this -
    <script src="Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
Note the "S" in place of the "s".  *nix servers are case sensitive.

  • Learning dreamweaver cs4 before cs5.5

I have recently taken a course in dreamweaver cs5.5 at college and also have dreamweaver cs5.5 on my home computer and I am just messing about learning to hopefully one day do web design as a permanent job. I got offered to do a course today at a dramatically reduced price. It is only £99 for a course that usually costs £1200. It is all distance learning so over the Internet but has 12 months support and over 500 hours of training content but the only thing is that the course teaches dreamweaver cs4 and my question really is will this be beneficiall learning that version of dreamweaver?

I find it interesting that the course syllabus was not yet updated to CS5 or CS5.5.
Maybe that explains the "discounted" tuition??
I think you should take the appropriate course for your version of DW.  You can do that at minimum expense ($25/month) at at Lynda.com

  • How to buy Dreamweaver CS4 or CS5? Don't want the Cloud. [was: installation]

I want to purchase Dreamweaver CS4 or 5, but I don't want to have to buy a cloud subscription.  Do I have a choice?

    Understood.
I've done work for non-profits and churches in the past.
Rather than Dreamweaver, I used Wordpress with Premium responsive Themes successfully.
It allows multi-author content contributors and it's free with lots of plugins to quickly and easily enhance functionality.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and CS5

At home I've made a web page in Dreamweaver CS5. My school however has CS4, is Dreamweaver like Flash and Illustrator where you need to save it as a legacy to open it in CS4? If I DO need to save it as a legacy, how do I do that?
    Thanks.

    csname wrote:
did i just misunderstand your response completely or do you REALLY mean that if i make a .dwt file using cs4 i will be able to open it without any problems and see exactly the same if i open it on the cs5 version?
if that is what you meant, then i cannot understand what other problem may be causing the complete opposite for me.
i need urgent help!  please???  anyone??
i created all files using dreamweaver & fireworks cs4 version at work, at homei have version cs5 & i cannot open the files and see what i was expecting to see.  i tried opening them with notepad & wordpad and all i get is gibberish, nonsense characters, nothing at all!
i tried finding the cs4 apps to download & install on my home pc & i could not find it anywhere.  doesnt Adobe have these available?  since it was purchased by my company and it has a bundle license, there's really nowhere to find it on the Adobe site by logging in, the files are not going to show on my own acct.  i have the licenses but not the dl files!  is there an online place [other than my own place of work] where i could find these so i can just dl them on my home pc so i can finish my project due first thing monday?
i need to either be able to open ALL these files with CS5 [including ALL fireworks graphics & dw files]?
    OR
where can i find online the CS4 [dw & fw] app dl files so i can install them on my home pc?
    thx so much!
I highly recommend starting your post as a new post as most users on this forum will ignore posts with answers marked.  And if you feel something is different please post example files online for the DW side of things.  As far as Fireworks files are concerned you may need to post in the Fireworks forums for that.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 - creating a new file

Ok so I have a weird question. I noticed on the new site I just created that when I load a page from the site Dreamweaver is creating a folder within a folder and adding a copy of the new page in there with a new name.
So say I have a folder name admin and a file name login.php. when I load this on local host the url should be like this -> localhost/mySite/admin/login.php
but what is actually coming up is localhost/My%20Testing%20Server/My%20Site/My_Site/admin/TMPw1iipqpsvl.php
is there somthing I've done wrong in setting up the site?  I've created sites before and never had a problem like this.

That's a temporary page. It's created specifically for previewing.
You "should" be able to turn it off in the preferences...
Edit > Preferences >select Preview In Browser > uncheck the "Preview using temporary file" checkbox
EDIT: OOps, forgot the Preview In Browser selection.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and CS5 on Same Computer

I am thinking of upgrading to CS5.5 from CS 4. I would like to know if it is ok to have and use both versions on the same computer. I have projects ongoing in my current version and don't want to have to reconfigure them to operate correctly in the new version. I plan to start new projects in the new version in the future.
    What do you think?

I would tend to agree with Hans. Chances are that unless you need to support a website with methods that are no longer part of the new version of Dreamweaver, you won't need to have both versions.
I have something like 50 websites that are built in Dreamweaver CS3 and upgraded about a month ago to CS 5.5. Both versions of Dreamweaver coexist quite well on my Mac Pro under Snow Leopard and I am able to run both versions of Dreamweaver simultaneously, each with a different website open at the same time.
Both versions also successfully upload information to my server and, in fact, I can have both transmitting data to the same VPS server at the same time.
I have one website that is using a Flash-based slideshow created in Dreamweaver CS3 that I have not updated to the more modern jQuery. Once I update that, I will be able to switch completely to CS 5.5 for all of my websites. There is absolutely no difference in the HTML or CSS code generated by the two applications, as the standards for HTML and CSS are precisely the same.
And Dreamweaver CS 5.5 can be made to look and act like Dreamweaver CS3 (or very close to it) by simply changing how one's code view and design view are laid out (I prefer code to be on top and design to be beneath, rather than the default side-by-side view indroduced with CS5).
I also needed to check off the checkbox in Preferences>New Document "Include Unicode Signature (BOM)" because that is not required for standard English and Roman-alphabet based websites and will flag an error in the W3C Validator.
That's pretty much it. I do like the "Live Code" view, though I always check things in a web browser and check things again in several web browsers once uploaded to the server.

  • DREAMWEAVER putting files in wrong folder

Our webhost ATT made a big server switch. I've made all the changes required to point Dreamweaver in the right direction, but the files I try to "put" on our website are going to a hidden folder and not on the active site. I've spent loads of time talking to ATT tech support and they say that the changes need to be made in Dreamweaver. I know enough about Dreamweaver to change and 'put' files on our site. HELP!  This folder has to be updated frequently as we sell tickets for performances online.

OK, I think that still used the CS4 style menus...
    1. Verify you have your site definition open. From the Files window (F8 if it's not open) in DW, make sure you have the site name showing in the left hand drop down and Local View in the right hand menu at the top. Below those will be your toolbar starting with Connect and ending with Expand. Below that will be all of your site files, which should look something like...
Where your site should say something like...
Site - YourAwesomeSite (whatever you named your site in DW)
         -htdocs
              -index.html
              +css
              +fonts
              +pages
              etc...
              etc...
    2. If your site looks like the YourAwesomeSite example above, where everything shows up under the htdocs folder, all you need to do is click and drag the files out of htdocs and drop them on the MyAwesomeSite level. DW will ask you to update links, click Update or Yes. Delete the now empty htdocs folder.
    3. Test the pages
    4. If everything is working in Preview, Go to your settings: Site > Manage Sites > click the site you are working on > Edit
    5. Under the Advanced tab, click Remote Info and make sure /public is in your Host Directory (it might also be called Root Directory or Server Root maybe). If you had to add it, click Apply or Save or Done, whichever one is there. Close the settings window and the Manage Sites Dialogue
    6. Click the Expand button in the Files window. That will make it take up the whole screen and place your remote view on one side and local on the other.
    7. Hit connect. If everything is set up correctly, you should only see the public folder and its contents on the Remote View side. If you see anything else at the top of the file list for remote view, your FTP info is not set up correctly.
    8. If you are seeing the public folder and its contents only, go ahead and click Put to put the entire site to that folder.
    That should do it.

  • How to deactivate Related Files in Dreamweaver CS4 (totally)

    Hello,
how can I deactived the Related Files feature (not only the Bar).
We work directly on the Server. We don't want Dreamweaver to donwload the related files and save them back!
Our wish is that Dreamweaver CS4 save only the file we have open (without the related files).
    Axel Neswadba

When you use "Save" with Related Files, whichever document (either the main document in the Design View, or the Related File in Code VIew) that has focus is saved.
You can disable Related Files in the Preferences General Tab. You will need to shutdown and restart DW for the change to take efffect.

  • Troubleshoot synchronization problems in Dreamweaver CS4

I am now having problems linking files; ie PDFs on my site in Dreamweaver CS4
I found this trouble shooting guide and followed both suggestions, but neither is working for me, any suggestions?
Here is a link to the adobe site describing the problem:
Thanks so much!  Issue  When you use Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 and CS5 to synchronize files or upload files to a server, you experience one of the following issues:      * When you put files, Dreamweaver warns you that the remote file has changed on the server: "my_file.htm has changed on the remote server since your last get or put operation. Putting it may overwrite changes to the file. Do you wish to put the file anyway?" However, you are sure that the remote files haven't changed.     * The Synchronize preview dialog box does not correctly list the files that should be synchronized.     * The Synchronize preview dialog box says no synchronization is necessary, but you know some files have changed.  Note: Synchronization underwent major enhancements in Adobe Dreamweaver 8. The current version of Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 and CS5 uses similar technology.  Reason  When you put or get a file in Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 and CS5, Dreamweaver locally stores the remote and local date/time stamps in files called dwsync.xml, which are located in hidden _notes folders in the same folder as the files being transferred. Occasionally, the dwsync.xml files can become corrupted.

Sorry I guess the link did not show but the paragraph describes it, I have cleared the cache, deleted the dwsync files and searched for all of them on my computer but I still can'y load a simple link....

    4. Delete FileCache.dat files from the Dreamweaver user configuration folder.
Delete the WinFileCache-7A9586CB.dat, MacFileCache-BFE7CE2E.dat, or FileCache.dat file from the Dreamweaver user configuration folder. It is recommended to delete the FileCache.dat file if you are experiencing a JavaScript error related to "dwscripts" or if you are receiving a "translators were not loaded" error message. The string of characters after "FileCache-" may differ on your machine. The location of the FileCache.dat file depends your operating system and your version of Dreamweaver. Note that on Windows, the Application Data and AppData folders are hidden by default, so verify that your Windows Explorer folder options are set to View Hidden Folders.
Note:  The language folder below is an abbreviation of the language you are currently using.  Typically there will only be one folder in this location.
    Windows XP
    \Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4 [or CS5]\[language]\Configuration
    Windows Vista/7
    \Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4 [or CS5]\[language]\Configuration
    Macintosh OS X
