Dreamweaver CS5 constantly quits if FTP is left connected
I've searched everywhere and have found lots of references to this but no answers.
Dreamweaver CS5 just quits all the time. I couldn't figure it out for ages and found one discussion that said it had something to do with the the FTP. So if I disconnect FTP, it seams mostly stable. If I forget to disconnect after each upload and leave it for 5 minutes and then try do something / anything... bam!, it just quits out.
It is so freaking annoying and got to the point where I just can't work like this. Even resorted to not setting up FTP at all and using Filezilla for uploads but doesn't help when you're doing app development.
Any solutions out there ??

I wanted to check in and provide an update regarding our upcoming release schedule.
For those wishing to upgrade to Creative Cloud - Suitcase Fusion 5 is available today and includes Adobe Creative Cloud plugins, new features and other product enhancements. This Photoshop issue has been addressed along with a few other plugin related bugs. Suitcase Fusion 5 is a paid upgrade.
For current Suitcase Fusion 4 users - Extensis is planning to release a free update for Suitcase Fusion 4 addressing this and a few other plugin related bugs. I don't have the exact release date yet but expect it to be available for download within the next few weeks.
I will update this post once it's available from our website.

but the database connection wizard fails with http error 403 or 500
i also use the HeidiSQL client and it works, the only problem is in dreamweaver.OK. Did you really mean to ask this question on a ColdFusion forum, if it's DreamWeaver you're having problems with? You're probably better off raising this on a DreamWeaver forum. "Using the correct tool for the job" 'n'all.

Dreamweaver CS5 does not save ftp password
I'm running dreamweaver CS5 on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.4 and find I need to enter my user name and password for ftp server access each time I launch dreamweaver. Anyone know of a solution? I haven't had this problem with previous CS versions. Thanks

Photoshop mac CS5 constantly quits unexpectedly on open. Possibly from a system update?
Hey guys, I can't open photoshop after running an update on my OS. I'm not sure if it's related, as photoshop started crashing several hours later, I can't remember whether I had it working in the meantime - but I don't think I used it. It first happened when I tried to open a jpeg.
I'm not the best at understanding this kind of issue or fixing it, so it might be easier for me to uninstall adn try again from scratch, but I'm concerned something in the update will prevent it from working again. I tried restarting my imac, no change. Please help!

I wanted to check in and provide an update regarding our upcoming release schedule.
For those wishing to upgrade to Creative Cloud - Suitcase Fusion 5 is available today and includes Adobe Creative Cloud plugins, new features and other product enhancements. This Photoshop issue has been addressed along with a few other plugin related bugs. Suitcase Fusion 5 is a paid upgrade.
For current Suitcase Fusion 4 users - Extensis is planning to release a free update for Suitcase Fusion 4 addressing this and a few other plugin related bugs. I don't have the exact release date yet but expect it to be available for download within the next few weeks.

I have Dreamweaver CS5.5 and the FTP will not work. Any Ideas?
Hello anyone out there. I just got off the phone with Adobe and they no longer support the product.
I keep getting this message:
Toggling the "use Passive FTP" checkbox may help you establish a connection.
-Select or de-delect the checkbox and click Test to try again.
_If you are connecting to an IPv6 enabled server, please select the "Use IPv6 transfer mode" checkbox in the Advanced site definition dialog.
If the problem persists, check your network settings, including hte local firewall settings on your computer, or consult your network administrator.
I cannot connect to the server and I have checked everything with Godaddy and it is fine. I have checked with Apple and it is all fine and the cache is empty.
Any ideas?

Servers: Root Directory is whatever your hosting provider (GoDaddy) told you to use. This varies by web host. The most commonly used ones are html_docs, public_html or www.
Click the TEST button. If you're connected, Save and exit this panel. If you can't connect, click More Options:

Dreamweaver CS5 crashes when selecting a DIV
Hello,
I have had Dreamweaver CS5 for quite a while now and recently it has been crashing everytime i select a DIV in html.
I can work fine when coding in CSS or PHP but as soon as i select a DIV it crashes and closes.
Anyone had the same issue or can suggest a possible fix?

Dual monitors (someone else with this complaint mentioned that so I thought it might be important)
Launch dreamweaver, work for 5 minutes. Go to Photoshop to edit an image and come back 2 minutes later.
Click or touch something and it just quits.
No error, nothing.... just closes out.
The only hint of a problem that I have seam to have found is that if the FTP is not connected or not setup at all, then it will not crash. Only crashes when FTP is on and connected.
PLEASE I AM NOW BEGGING!
I have called Adobe support and tried everything they said. I have trashed the config folder, repaired disk permissions, trashed the .dat cache file and finally today, I formatted my entire Mac and reinstalled everything.
4 hours later and exactly the same problem.
I can't work like this anymore. All the other CS apps are fine. It has to be the FTP in dreamweaver. Now I have even tried setting it to disconnect FTP after 1 minute idle but that doesn't seam to work at all. It just stays connected.I can confirm this is 100% NOT Rackspace's fault or any other isp or server/hosting provider.
We are a web design company and have been living with this problem now since CS5 came out. We have filed bug reports but after all this time, no fix.
We own our own dedicated servers and it is a requirement that we use sftp/ssh for security. We have also tested with other hosting (clients own) and this is DEFINATELY a dreamweaver/Adobe problem.
Basically there are 3 specific things which seem to make Dreamweaver quit (there may be more but these are ones which I can highlight)
1. Leaving ftp unattended, whether while working in Dreamweaver itself or switching to another app
2. Cancelling an upload
3. Editing css, sometimes when right clicking on a css style and editing, bang, it quits, you lose all changes not saved. This also causes it to keep losing ftp/login/passwords on some sites...
All of these seem to relate to ftp in some way. This is a very big and very annoying bug. On some sites it never quits, sftp or not, on others it does it all the time and we lose loads of time on a job quoted for.
Now a suggestion may be to disconnect from ftp when finished.... however this is not possible if using live view (which has it's own bugs too!) or testing servers/live sites where you are continually updating.
Also, another thought may be, does it only do it on php based sites linked to testing servers.... well I thought so until tonight when I opened up one of our older static sites, built in plain xhtml/css. Bang, quits after several minutes, bang quits again after a few more minutes....

Adobe constantly pinging firewall after installing Dreamweaver CS5 Demo
I don't know for sure if this should be posted under Dreamweaver or just Adobe in general, but since I installed the Dreamweaver CS5 demo 2 days ago, July 15, 2010, my firewall has been filling up with icmp/ping requests from "ADOBE Systems Incorporated" (see log snippet below. Times are CST -6:00). This is happening whether I have Dreamweaver running or not. I noticed because I usually only get a daily email from my firewall, but lately I have been receiving multiple emails daily filled with blocked ping requests.
Can anyone confirm if this might be a "feature" of all their new online stuff or should I be worried? Can anyone else check their firewalls and see if it's happening to them?

Dreamweaver automatically tries to connect to Adobe every time the Welcome screen is displayed. To prevent it from happening, select the "Don't show again" checkbox at the bottom left of the welcome screen. The reason it connects is to get the message that's displayed at the bottom right of the welcome screen.
The other reason your computer will be connecting to Adobe is the Adobe Updater will be trying to connect to the server to find if there are any updates to the installed programs. It normally runs once a day, but is probably retrying because your firewall won't let it through. I'm not sure if or how you can disable the updater. I find it quite useful, so have never tried to turn it off. -
FTP Connection Issues Dreamweaver CS5.5
I can't ftp into the top level directory of any of my hosting accounts with dreamweaver cs5.5
This is becoming a major issue and I'm aware now of other users with the same issue.
First log in to an ftp server works fine - the test case directory is created and deleted - and I think it is this which is causing some odd permissions issue.
Second time you try to log in, the connection is made, but then any directory listing times out. However if I define a directory such as /public_html/images/ then it will connect and display directory listings just fine. Clicking "Test" in the server definition dialog results in an OK message.
If i FTP in using a different FTP Client (in this case Transmit) and upload a single file, the issue goes away, and dreamweaver can again connect - one time only, until I perform this odd "reset".
This happens on all FTP connections across multiple hosting companies (all of the hosting companies my clients sites are stored at).
FTP log is below:

Then it waits for a while before giving me the following error message (I've extended timeout to anything up to a couple of minutes, no difference):

-if you are connecting using an IPv6 enabled server, please select the "USE IPv6 transfer mode" checkbox in the Advanced site definition dialog.
If the problem persists, check you network settings, including the local firewall settings on your computer, or consult your network administrator.
I have tried PASV checked and unchecked, performance optimisation, and every other combination available to me. I am not connecting through a proxy.
The settings on ALL of my sites worked before the cs5.5 upgrade. The settings on NONE of my sites with a root directory specified work since the upgrade. The only thing that has changed is the move to dreamweaver cs5.5. I can connect with other ftp clients. my ftp server settings are correct. My server and network settings are unchanged. The settings on ALL my sites on other FTP clients continue to work fine.
Am on an i7 2.8GHz Intel iMac running 10.6.7 with 8 gigs of RAM. I have quit all software except dreamweaver and tried running my mac firewall both on and off.
Really running out of ideas, and know of other people with the same issue since the upgrade - what's going on Adobe?!Same for me, in that I had an unreliable and effectively unusable FTP connection with CS5.5 . I've reverted to CS5, because even though I'll miss a couple of the new features I need to have a working connection to the site when working with PHP - because otherwise I can't see my site at all other than via Firefox. I also suspect that at least a couple of times I've had some sort of corruption occur as a result of the FTP hanging. All was okay before CS5.5, and I may have slagged off a different hosting provider than my present one when it was in fact (at least in part) a DW issue. If it isn't fixed in CS6 then CS6 is unusable for me and I'd definitely be happier with 'unenhanced' CS5 FTP functionality. The theoretical performance gains with the CS5.5 implementation are trivial by comparison with the problems. If all else fails, please revert to CS5 code for the FTP side of things.
UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is now fixed for me. The problem was that I did not have a proper web url entered in my site definition for the remote server. I'm not sure how that was placing any limitation on FTP access - after all, the need for a full site definition was removed a couple of software issues ago - but the fact is that with the correct web address entered I have working FTP on CS6 (and seemingly on CS5.5 too). I had a simple forward slash entered for the web address, probably as a result of some earlier investigation of the local server/remote server relationships for file upload on a PHP site. I was running CS5 with the correct Web Url entered, so that was working and the CS5.5, without the correct Web Url, was not. I vaguely remember reading that the Web Url was connected with DWs management of absolute/relative links and not much else, but it seems that is not the case. The new FTP is MUCH faster and I'm a happy guy. Site menu>>>Manage sites>>>[select your site]>>>Edit>>>Servers>>>[2-click your server]>>>Web URL: Put in the full URL e.g. http://www.somesite.com . Not sure if you need a trailing / after, but I have one.
UPDATING AGAIN: Through all of that I had turned on the 'IPv6 protocol' and 'Passive FTP' options in an attempt to get working. The result of that was FTP that worked well once transferring files but often took a while to hook up. Deselecting those, and using CS6, I'm happy with my FTP. -
I am in Graphic Design school and we are studying Dreamweaver CS5. One of the projects is to create a new page based on one of the 16 samples available which is the 2 column, fixed, left sidebar, header and footer option.
However, in CC Dreamweaver, I only see the 2 column, fixed, right sidebar option.Change line 62 to

I downloaded updates and installed manually, had to mess around a bit.
Start the updater from the program first, then install from the download.
Also, moved plugins that are for Premier from common plugins directory,
to the Premier plugins directory. Stopped the error I got launching After Effects
that said to reinstall the plugins.

Dreamweaver CS5.5 Error on Quitting - Mac OSX 10.6.8
Hi everyone!
I am geeting the following javascript type of error ( see image attached ) when I exit or quit Dreamweaver CS5.5 on Mac OSX 10.6.8.
Any ideas on why this is happening? This is the first time this happens to me.

Is there any update to Dreamweaver CS5 that will allow the FTP function to be compatible with the new FTP server protocol? Please help. Will I need to upgrade to CS6?
Ask in the DW forum and be much more specific about the requirements for your FTP connection like its ports, TLS settings and so on.

Remove preferences on Mac OS
Quit Dreamweaver.
In the Finder, navigate to /Users/Your User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe.
Rename the Dreamweaver preferences folder:
Dreamweaver CS5: Rename the Dreamweaver CS5 folder to, for example, Old Dreamweaver CS5.
Navigate to /Users/Your User Name/Library/Preferences.
Rename the Dreamweaver preferences file:
Dreamweaver CS5: Rename the Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Prefs file to, for example, Old Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Prefs.
Try to re-create problem
After you have removed your existing preferences, restart Dreamweaver. The application creates new preferences files, folders, and registry entries, as applicable, using the default settings.
Then try to re-create the problem that you had before.
If the problem was resolved, then damaged preferences was the cause.
If the problem persists, then the preferences are not the cause and you can replace the original preferences.
To replace the original preferences:
Quit dreamweaver.
Delete the new preferences folder and restore the original name of the previous folder. -
Can I stop Dreamweaver CS6 from constantly polling the FTP server?
When I work in CS6 I just work directly off the FTP server. I don't work in a large team, check in and check out is a wasted feature for us. So I have the Advanced server settings to automatically upload files when I save them. This has been working pretty well with the exception that Dreamweaver CS6 seems to constantly poll the FTP server anyway. So often times I'll go to save and it will throw out an error that it can't upload the file right now because it's currently interacting with the server.
Inside Dreamweaver I have the FTP log tab open and it's just constantly looking at stuff on the server at random intervals. It's not downloading anything or reconnecting. I'm having no connection problems at all actually outside of this.
I've poked through settings and I can't find anything that says something like "Stop constantly checking the FTP server, it's still there, don't worry about it..."
Here's the error for whatever it's worth. I wouldn't even bother complaining about this except that it happens to me constantly throughout the day. If it was just once or twice I wouldn't care. The other annoying thing is that when the error occurs it does save the file locally which is pointless for my purposes also but since it flags it as saved I have to make a change in order to get it to save and upload. So a lot of times I'm just waiting for it to stop interacting with the FTP server for no good reason, adding a space, backspacing the space and then hitting save again. Seriously obnoxious, please tell me there's a setting to shut this behavior off.I'll tell you the real answer - because Adobe Dreamweaver's FTP integration is, and has always been, horrendous. Here I am - working with Dreamweaver in 2013, having worked with Dreamweaver since the year 2000... yes - that is 13 years. And 13 freaking years later I am still having the SAME Dreamweaver FTP issues since back then!!
Like today - let me tell you my workflow.
Open Dreamweaver - knowing that this is going to be yet again another painful day because of the FTP situation
Make a few changes to a single file
Connect - it connects instantly
Upload my file. I'm (relatively) happy.
Work on my file for the next 10 minutes.
Keyboard Shortcuts to save, then upload my file.
Window pops up - Waiting for server
Still waiting for server
Trys to reconnect.
Waiting for server
I cancel. Disconnect... then guess what...
Window pops up - Waiting for server.
I close that window immediately
Reconnect - its fine
Upload my file immediately.
I have to do this EVERY FREAKING TIME I need to upload a file. It is beyond rediculous that this wasn't solved in 2002, but no - ELEVEN years after that it still behaves the same!!!!
I know I'm not alone - just google "Dreamweaver FTP Waiting for server", or "dreamweaver ftp dropping", or anything else like that, and you'll find no end of people in pure frustration.
The only solution that I have found that may actually help ease the pain (doesn't solve the problem unfortuantely) this is something I just found today.
Go to Preferences > Site settings where you can change FTP connection option : Disconnect after x minutes idle
I have changed that to 1 minute. Shouldn't have to, but that's all that can be done.
Please Adobe - start from the ground up with CS7 and completely rewrite FTP in Dreamweaver.
