Dreamweaver css3-html5 colornames

darkgray means something to me. But honestly, #999999 ...what's that?
Browsers all know css3-html5 colorname css syntax, but where are colornames in Dreamweaver? When I am in code view and inserting color property, the only Dreamweaver popup  is an ancient color grid. Where is the colornames popup? I have been using colornames popup in Expression Studio for years. I sure hope someone can tell me where colornames are in the dynamic Dreamweaver CSS3-html5 codeview popups.

Color names are inconsistant.  Dark grey means nothing to me.  But Cool Grey 9 would mean a PMS color.  And based on the W3C dark gray is actually #A9A9A9, not #999999 ( source ) .  And colornames to not represent all variations of colors.  Do you see the disconnect?  I agree with you that hex codes are meaningless but I would argue that the compromise is moving to rgba for colors which is supported in CSS3.  Moving forward RGBA is something that is being used more and more by Adobe.  This is because if you go to an artist and they design something in Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks, dark gray is an arbitrary value whereas the coded value can be replicated across all mediums.

  • Dreamweaver crashes when going to Design View on jQuery CSS3/HTML5 vanilla W3C-verified site

I created a new web site with HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and jQuery.    I verified all of the CSS and HTML with the W3C site.
Dreamweaver gives no errors, and will open the site in code-view, but hangs and crashes when I try to go to design view.   The only unusual thing about this site is that its responsive and uses media queries and some animations.
Microsoft Expression Web 4 will open the site and go to design view just fine, and has no problem displaying Design View.  Should I hold my breath for Adobe to fix this problem, or just use Expression Web instead?

    KenGross,
Does the code contain any external library links - .js, .css, even Google Analytics code?
If so, can you try commenting them out in Code view, then load them in Design view to see if the issue persists?

  • Flash or Dreamweaver for HTML5

using Flash professional cs6 for creating  interactive eLearning content.
My costumer wants to publish to web, smartphone and tablets.
I have the plugin “toolkit create js.” For HTML5 but this gives a lot of errors not interactivity.
Could you advise me? Do I need to import my project to Dreamweaver ?
    Thanks,
    Ton

Flash is very useful for creating animated and interactive content and cool stuff. But the Apple iPhone and iPad will never display Flash. Ever. And on much of the Android hardware, Flash is hardly optimal.
HTML5 offers alternatives to using Flash and those alternatives include video and audio elements that let you display video and audio on a website where, once, you had to have a Flash Plugin in a browser. You can also do really wonderful interactive stuff using JavaScript.
Pixelpaint has a converter that will change Flash into HTML5. It's not perfect, but it does get some things done. Google offers Swiffy for conversion to HTML5, though it can't yet convert DoubleClick Studio creatives.
Adobe also has a toolkit for CreateJS that can help you take your Flash projects to iPad and iPhone that will only work with Flash CS6. When you install the Adobe Extension Toolkit for CreateJS by using your Adobe Extensions Manager you can access it through the Flash authoring environment by going to: Window > Other Panels > Toolkit for CreateJS.
It's not perfect. It exports all of the Flash graphics, animations, and sounds to individual assets and Javascript files that support Canvas for HTML5. It does not support Actionscript 1.0 to 3.0 and Flash's built in 3D tools. Even though the Toolkit does not convert Actionscript to Javascript yet, it does leave you in the position to be able to do it yourself by separating out assets like graphics and sound and and animations and creating readable Javascript for the timeline animations. Adobe has instructions for getting started with this toolkit online.

  • Learn node/express/jade/ajax/json/javascript/css3/html5 by example

I used to do a lot of freelance web development for sports clubs and self-worshipping individuals back when I was at school.  That was in the days when Internet Explorer 5/6 ruled supreme, animated GIFs were cool, and many other painful memories.
While I am probably still proficient with ASP/VBscript/IIS/MS SQL Server/Access despite doing no web development for almost a decade, I'm not masochistic enough to touch them again so I decided to learn some "modern" and "intelligently designed" web development techniques last week.
If anyone else is interested, and (like me) learns from examples and by fiddling then you will find the following useful.  It's a little demonstration project that I created, which allows editing of an inventory table in a MySQL database, produces aggregates/summaries of the table, and applies a branch-and-bound knapsack solver to work out which combination of items would be the best for you to steal borrow, given the maximum total weight that you can carry.
    github.com/battlesnake/nodejs-starter
Feel free to fork it all you want.
As with all most open-source software, the documentation (when it even exists) leaves a lot to be desired.  However, like most "tech startup tools"-style software, the design is so elegant that it explains itself without the need for documentation 95% of the time.  REPL often gives answers quicker than a google/StackOverflow search.
Upon first seeing node.js and mongo, I thought "an entire environment running on JavaScript? what could possibly be worse?!?!"
But after learning JS properly (i.e. not the cargo-culting late 90's style of it), I have taken a real appreciation for the language.  It is probably as slow as Python (or maybe considerably faster with the V8 compiler), but so much nicer to use!  The MySQL package for node.js actually makes it easier to write proper parametrized queries than to write the typical "lazy, insecure" junk of a rushed 90's commercial project.
The Jade template engine is a real pleasure to use, which when combined with the Express web server, makes me think that all my time fighting working with and learning ASP and PHP is going to become a distant waste.
I have yet to use Stylus, a CSS templating engine which presumably solves the problems incurred by the popularity of small-screened pointless, fashion nonsense tablets and smartphones.
CSS3 is... well nothing too drastically different from its predecessors, but the flexbox layout mode is really nice, and even Internet Explorer supports it (well IE9+ anyway).  Thanks to Wine, I have IE6,7,8,9,10 all installed and running simultaneously, so I can see how aweful the IE<9 versions are at rendering pretty much anything involving flexbox layout, html, css, etc.
JSON is easy, so google it if you want to know what that is about.  It solves a problem well and doesn't really do anything flashy, so I'll leave wikipedia to market it.
AJAX always seemed like a simple concept, and indeed it is!  One little gotcha that I found was that when adding HTML fragments from an AJAX response to the document DOM, the default stylesheet doesn't seem to get applied - so everything is "display: inline", amongst various other problems.  This was solved by mercilessly stealing copying from the W3's default HTML4 stylesheet.
I really should learn JQuery and implement that to reduce the code size, but I couldn't quite be bothered at the time.
    Happy learning!

  • Creating a panorama, for use on a tablet (HTML5/CSS3/JS/PhoneGap/CS5.5)

I'm looking for a way to do a panorama image that the user can simply drag left/right to pan the image and view around the panorama. Without a cursor this is becoming a bit difficult. Looking for some javascript/phonegap/jquerymobile/cs5.5 tips that might make this easier.
jQuerymobile can tell you basic events like swipeleft, swipe, swiperight, tap, etc. What I'm interested in is when the user touches and drags their finger, I'd just like to slide the image. What I find is that javascript seems to "stop" the moment the onmousedown event occurs. I poll for the cursor position (event.clientX) but it's not updating until I let go. On a standard browser it dutifully keeps updating the value even though I have the mouse button down.
What potential ways could I execute this horizontal sliding panorama using the above technologies in CS5.5/JS/CSS3/HTML5?
    Thanks for any tips!

I did find a nice resource on an exhaustive effort to check compatibility of various browsers and devices and to my suprise there's a mobile touchmove event I never knew about. This event fires off in both my iPad and Android tablet (and phones for that matter). The problem is, the data returned does not contain any kind of position information. It has clientX and pageX and such but they have no usable values.
Here's a demo I'm using as an example. I just want to pan the large (randomly googled) image to the left and right when I drag my finger on it. I'm printing out the touchmove data that is returned along with a 'count' variable so you can see how many times it has fired off. Note: this only works on tablets/phones, not a desktop browser.
    Any tips on doing this?

Making the HTML form is easy but the form processing script which collects data & sends it to your email is not quite so simple.   Start with your web host.  Ask them if they have form-to-email processing scripts you can use.  If they don't, find out which scripts your hosting plan supports (php, asp, asp.net, perl, coldfusion, etc...)

  • Why do we need Wallaby for HTML5?

I'm wondering why adobe is doing all this hardwork of converting FLA to HTML5, when we all know that HTML5 cannot do all the stuff Flash can do. Though I appreciate the emerging standard as the way to go. But Adobe has a better tool to deliver this experience for designers-  It's call Flash Catalyst. Flash Catalyst is a User Interaction tool which is best suited for this. I believe Adobe is working under tremendous pressure to provide a solution to the apple embarrasment  of not supporting Flash. In order not to sound to simple. I believe we can have an export/publish option to HTML5 from Adobe catalyst. This makes more sense to me if you agree - Flash Catalyst to FLEX/SWF/AIR/HTML5.
I think Adobe should leave Flash Pro out of the HTML5 debate now after all Flash is not supporting the most fundamental features that can be a game changer.

There was already a demo from an Adobe conference a few years ago or perhaps one year ago where someone demonstrated how
to export Illustrator and SWF documents from Dreamweaver into "HTML5 Canvas".  Canvas
is some type of tag that allows SVG and SWF filetypes to be rendered within the browser using HTML5 standards.  If you search for HTML5 Canvas and the word SWF or Flash within the same query string you will likely come up with the video demonstrating this feature.  If you look through my profile for HTML5 Canvas or HTML Canvas you will look for a question I posed about this technology as well.

  • Dreamweaver cs4 refuses to start. Error window pops up but there is no message

I recently downloaded an Dreamweaver extension (HTML5) for cs4. Shortly after I got an error while I was working in Dreamweaver about the ssi.html server. When I closed dreamweaver and tried to restart, Dreamweaver refused to start. There is a popup message window with an OK button but there is no error message in it. I already removed my personal configuration files but that didn't help. Any suggestions. I looked on the Adobe site but most links to technical notes that could be helpful, were broken.

I have exactly the same problem, except that I regularly open up the npr site. But here is the real problem. I open firefox>preferences>advanced>encryption>view certificates>add exception. But here is the problem. I can not click on the box to permanently store exception. This box appears permanently closed.
I am currently running firefox 9.01, and I've got to say I never had any problems with firefox in all the years I've used it. But ever since it went through this dizzying series of upgrades from 3.6 to the present it has given me problems.
I am a regular npr listener, and so this annoying error message is really making me consider permanently leaving firefox for chrome or safari.

Form processing scripts are a bit more complex.  Start by asking your hosting provider if they have scripts you can use.  If not, find out which server-side programming languages are supporting by your plan -- php, asp.net, perl, cold fusion, etc...  This will narrow your search to the scripts you can use on your server.

  • Will I be able to update when I install CS4 DP on Windows 8.1?

    Hi,
My notebook was stolen. It had CS4 Design Premium installed on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
I bought a new notebook, but it comes with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.
Will I be able to download updates after installing from the DVD?
I'm on a TLP license from the volume licensing website. (If that matters at all.)
    Cheers,
    Robert

    Installation went OK.
There was a slight scare though when a window headed with "Installation Error" popped up telling me that "Adobe Flash CS4" failed to install.
I took the right decision to click "Continue" because it turned out to be that installation of the Flash Player 10 ActiveX Control failed. Not "Flash CS4".
Which would be weird anyway because the installer for "Flash CS4" is on the second installer DVD.
Then my original question (for which I started this topic) was answered :
You can not get updates through "Adobe Updater".
    No automatic updates.
I updated "Adobe Updater" itself from version 6.0.1.1464 to version 6.2.0,1474, but that didn't make any difference.
So I had to go to the Adobe FTP server to download all updates manually (which I did over the past few days because I also have to download updates for Mac).
Especially Acrobat 9 Pro was a pig to download. And will also be a pig to install.
From the Adobe FTP server I could download updates for :
    Adobe Updater
Acrobat Pro 9 (You only need to download all the quarterly updates. And then install them in the correct sequence.)
    9.0.0 > 9.1.0 > 9.1.2 > 9.2.0 > 9.3.0 > 9.3.2 > 9.3.3 > 9.4.0 > 9.4.2 > 9.4.5 > 9.4.6 > 9.5.0 > 9.5.1 > 9.5.2 > 9.5.3 > 9.5.5
    Source: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/update-patch-acrobat-reader-7.html
    Indesign CS4
    Photoshop CS4 (and Extended)
From the Macromedia site I could download updates for :
    Fireworks CS4
    Flash CS4 Pro
I could not find updates for :
Illustrator CS4 <===== This is a major showstopper for me. I use Illustrator most of all.
    Dreamweaver CS4
    Dreamweaver CS4 HTML5 and CSS3 Add-On pack
and others like LiveCycle (installed by Acrobat 9 Pro)
    etc.
All in all I think that it is silly of Adobe to disable installation through Adobe Installer.
I understand that there will be no new upgrades, updates and patches, but why take the existing ones offline for the automatic updater?
And where are the updates for Illustrator CS4?

  • EMail enabled at BC, but still on Registrar's Server

I've had a website hosted by another company for a long time. Have switched the DNS of the site with the registrar and have gone live at BC. In the process I enabled eMail to be handled by BC, but when I test, eMail bounces back via Mail Daemon.
I see at the registrar/former host that the MX records still show the registrar/former host. Do I need to change that? To what?
I created the site (with eMail enabled) and uploaded from Muse. I have a year's subscription to Creative Cloud with BC included, so I'm not in a trial period. It appears to me, though, as I read the how-to information around-about Adobe that my Administration Console in BC for the Muse-generated site isn't the same as for a Dreamweaver-generated site, so I can't find how to "get in" to fix any settings. For example, in the Muse generated site, under Site Settings are Site Domains, Admin Users, User Roles and Billing Settings on the side bar, and Manage Site on the top bar. But there are several other options in Dreamweaver-generated sites. And using Dreamweaver to upload isn't an option for me. I truly don't understand any piece of it. (The beauty of Muse. It's so easy!)
In the meantime I'm in a no-receipt eMail zone here and that isn't healthy for our site. I can't upload another site from Muse to Business Catalyst until this eMail thing is resolved. And if you could answer in non-techno, that would be helpful to me. I'm a dunderhead. Help! And thank you!

I think those comments are overly harsh Cathie and more on you really.
IT is web site design and development. IF your building websites for people then you really need to know what your doing. This is my livelyhood and I am constantly learning every new thing I can from CSS3, HTML5, jQuery, Javascript, standards, best practiss, UI design, UX, SEO.... And more.
There is a point you have to know this stuff if this is what you or a company making websites, IT is simple as that.
I have no issues going live as I read the knowledgebase and understand the elements because I understand domain management. I think BC actually make it quite easy. IF you were to build a site with wordpress and doing this with a domain registra etc, this can be a hell of a lot more complicated if you struggle with the BC interface.
BC's Lowest plan is webbasic and as  Mario has stated here and through the FAQ's on these forums created by BC it does not come with email.
On the official BC site you can see the plans availible and webbasic does not come with email.
In terms of what you said about the domain name etc - Not true. Domains do not work like that. You need to point the A-Record to BC if you have email elsewhere.
That sort of knowledge is not really specific to BC, that is web development knowledge.
The updating of a site in Muse is indeed clumsy, but if you want a point and click sollution such as this then things like that are of course going to be the lower end. It will never match coding a site and designing and building a site the right way and knowing to use the admin, content management and knowing the BC system well as well as everything else.
Here is just one of many BC sites I have designed and built at Fuel Design:
    http://www.laidlaw.ac.nz/
Complex web apps, secure areas for staff and students, payment forms, comples forms, eCommerce, Massive site, lots of cool scripting going on. BC is a great system and lots to do, It lacks some things but high end stuff people like myself push to get implemented.
You have liquid to give amazing development control coming really soon, new web app engine for more powerful custom features of BC and more coming this year and beyond!
But you need to know all this to use them. You can not expect in any system, rich powerful features to achieve certain requirements to build rich, powerful websites to be point and click easy. There is a point you actually need to know the thing your doing.
You and me could build a house right now. We have places to pick up materials, we can google a bit and the tools you can buy these days do really cool stuff and make things a lot easier.
The house you and I build though wont have good foundations and will in no way be as feature rich, well polished and amazing as the archietects and builders who know what they are doing, know all the skills, all the in's and out's, tips, tricks and more.

  • Are there any widgets availble for creating a to-read list from web pages?

I frequently find myself wanting to read specific pdf's or web page content but not having the time to do it when I find them. It would be lovely to have an easy to use storage space for them on the dashboard as I frequently use it keep myself on task.
I know there are a wealth of apps that can save pdf content for later viewing (yojimbo, evernote, etc ..) but I'm specifically wondering if there is anything that either integrates those tools into the dashboard or just has a stand alone widget.
Having the ability to "send to" from any browser to this widget for easy transfer and possible storage would be key.

I just hand code my HTML forms because I know what I'm doing.  But if you prefer to use the Insert Panel > Forms tab, you'll need to check out this HTML5 forms tutorial by David Powers.

Next, use CSS to style your form labels, legends, fieldsets, input fields and submit button.  See example below, view source in browser to see the code.
    http://alt-web.com/TEST/Basic-HTML5form-jquery.html
Now that you have your HTML form, you need a script to gather, validate and process the form data.  Ask your hosting provider if they have a form-to-email script you can use.  Many hosts have scripts already on their servers which you can activate from your C-Panel or by referencing the script in your form's action attribute.
         <form action="path-to-form-on-server/form-to-email-script.php">
If your host doesn't have scripts you can use, find out which server-side programming languages your server supports -- PHP, ASP, ASP.net, Perl, etc..   This dictates what kind of scripts you can use.
Ideally, you want to find a script that is a) secure, b) hides your e-mail address from robots and c) has built in spam prevention.
