Dreamweaver hangs up after opening files

Hi,
I have only had this problem since I started using Dreamweaver CS5.5. Before this I was using an earlier Macromedia version (on an older Windows 2000 PC) and never had any problems.
It usually happens shortly after I open a file for editing - most often an ASP web page. It doesn't happen immediately after opening the file, but unpredictably, when maneuvering through the file, Dreamweaver will hang up. I then have to wait 30 to 60 seconds or more for it to come back to life. This has been happening more and more, and is beginning to make it very difficult to work with the program. It is more likely to happen with a larger file (over 1000 lines of source code), but it often happens with much shorter files - under 200 lines of code.
My PC is not strapped for resources. It is running XP Professional, runs at 2.99GHz and has 3.25GB of RAM. There is over 20GB of free hard drive space available.
This did not happen immediately after installation about 6 months ago. It started happening a month ago and seems to be getting worse. If it keeps up I will have to find another program to edit my code and limit my use of Dreamweaver to managing my testing and remote servers.
Dreamweaver is the only program I use that is causing problems.
Can anybody offer any suggestions?
Thanks in advance...

If it used to run OK, I'd quess something has been corrupted.
How about disabling any installed extensions, and re-enabling
them one-at-a-time until you find the problem

  • Dreamweaver CS5 Slow to Open File... Enable Related Files

    Hello,
I have a page that uses the Fancybox script and it takes Dreamweaver 50 seconds to open this page.
This script requires jQuery, so in the head of my page I have this:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script>
If I comment that line out, the page opens immediately. Also, if I disable "Enable Related Files", the page opens immediately... neither option is a good one of course.
It's my guess that dreamweaver is retrieving and parsing the remote jQuery file which is what is slowing things down. How to I stop dreamweaver from going after remote files???
I was hoping setting "Discover Dynacially-Related Files" to "Disabled" would do the trick, but trying that has led me to another problem that I posted in a different topic which is that Dreamweaver won't save the selection for "Discover Dynamically-Related Files". That option always returns to "Manually".
Any ideas how to stop dreamweaver from retrieving remote files?
    Thanks!
    Peter

Im on a mac with CS5 and I have started getting an issue with one of my sites where it is slow to open the files. I tried following the steps in the article you attached here but I can not find that preference file at  /Users/Your User Name/Library/Preferences. In fact, I don't have a library under /users/my name.
I can open files fine on a different site, but for some reason just this one is giving me trouble.

  • Firefox 8 is fatally hanging right after opening (Mac OS Lion) - need help

Firefox is hanging ("Application Not Responding") almost immediately after opening. Happens every time, even after rebooting computer. This is new with upgrading from Firefox 7 to 8. It does it even in Safe Mode, and I also followed the instructions to delete my old database and the duplicate session restore files - no change. I am grateful for any ideas.

If you've reformatted your internal HD, and have no backups, then you've already lost all your data.
Start up from your Snow Leopard Install disc and erase the disk, per the yellow box in #1 of Using Disk Utility.  Then install Snow Leopard.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 no longer opens files

    Greetings,
I am not sure where to post this, so I will post here - already have a question open on the Dreamweaver forums.
I have run into an unusual problem. I can no longer open files either on my local machine or remote server without Dreamweaver CS3 freezing. I am using OS X Leopard - 10.5.2 on an Intel MacBook Pro. A week or so ago I was able to open my .asp files just fine. Now, Dreamweaver simply freezes when I try and open them - either locally or remotely. I tried deleted the preferences file and removing site information from Manage Sites with no luck. I can create and open new files, but cannot open the existing files.
I copied the files in question to a PC and opened them just fine using Dreamweaver 8.02. I just don't know enough about the technical aspects to properly troubleshoot this problem. I already tried reinstalling also.
By the way, I am able to access, open and edit my files from the remote server using my PC and version 8.02.
    Any ideas?

It seems this is a known issue with Dreamweaver. I was able to access the files just fine by deselecting "display external links" in the view menu. Strange that I did not have to do this before.
For anyone interested, here are some links about this: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=12&catid=18 9&threadid=1262486&highlight_key=y&keyword1=design%20mode and http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401608&sliceId=1

  • InDesign CC 2014 crashes seconds after opening file

    Hi All,
I have an InDesign document that I have been working on recently, a large document with many links and placed vectors, however seconds after this file opens InDesign suddenly crashes.
We have the same problem on multiple Macs, and have tried separating the file from its linked files/images as well as document fonts, with no luck.
Is there a way we can convert this to an .idml or otherwise without paying over the odds for a company to recover this?
(I've seen people potentially sending Adobe the file to fix - would this be an option?)
    Thanks,
    Mark

Converting the .indd to .idml through scripts has fixed this issue.

  • CS4 Flash 10.0.2 crashes after opening file

    Hi,
I got caught purchasing CS4 right before CS5 came in and I have not used the flash till now.
So it crashes after opening a file.
    I have reinstalled
    installed over
fixed bad fonts including the chancery I read about.
    installed the hot fix
I am at my wits end.
    Now what?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Unfortunatly no..*sigh*
My file used to work. I went thru font book and repaired all that was needed after I started reading up on the crash issue. I also have received a set of files from a client and they bomb out as well.
Maybe I need to call the adobe people?
    thank you

  • PS5.1 shuts down right after opening file.

PS shutss down right after opening jpeg and other files.  Win7 32bit....  What gives?

Most likely a bad font.  Do you have any 3rd party fonts?
Also could be driver for video card, printer, scanner.
If these are all OK check your Event Log (see OS help)

  • Dreamweaver very slow when opening files with external links

Is there any way to fix Dreamweaver CS5 (Windows 7, 64bit) when opening files with external references?
For example, I have a very simple CSS file, and toward the top the file has a line that says:
    @import url("https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Ubuntu:500,700");
This causes the file to take around 20 seconds to open in DW. If I comment out the line or remove it, the file opens almost instantly. This behaviour is also present in files that contain an SSI.
DW often crashes before being able to open the file and I need to restart the app.
Can I disable DW from attempting to load the references?? It's obviously what is causing the issue IMO and would love to make DW workable again!

"Enable Related Files" isn't the fix for this issue. It's slightly different - I wanted to still load related files, but only the ones local to the file I was editing.
The fix was to use DW's Resolve To IP Address feature. It required adding a registry value - it fixed the issue straight away

  • Dreamweaver CC Won't Open Files

I'm a DW newbie, and I just installed DW CC after getting a CC subscription. Upon opening up DW, I discovered that it won't open any locally saved HTML files; the interface will flash for a millisecond, as if the file is about to open, but then...nothing. This happens whether I use the File...Open command, double click a file in the Finder (with DW defined as the default program for opening HTML files), or define a site in DW and double click a file in the Files panel. I've uninstalled (including Preferences) and reinstalled the program a couple of times, but it still doesn't work, and I have the necessary specs that are defined for DW's System Requirements (including the latest version of Java installed). I've noticed some users have had the same or similar problems with earlier versions of the program, but couldn't find a definitive "fix" anywhere. I'm running DW CC 13.2 on Mac OS 10.7.5
    HELP!!

    Hi Nancy,
Thank you for your time and patience following this issue up with me.
I won't try to create a new Mac User Account though.
The following answer is not to you, rather to the team @ Adobe.
I have nothing "bizarre" or "unusual", all other Creative Cloud software works just fine. Adobe is the one who should be taking the time to sort this out, not me.
It really amazes me that I have a paid subscription and "all of a sudden" I am working with multiple scenarios, deleting or renaming files when all I want is to receive the product/service that Adobe agreed to charge and offer
    to me.
I already moved to Coda, not using Dreamweaver anymore. I don't have time to debug other people's software.
    Thank you

  • Dreamweaver CS6 doesn't open files

    Hi Forum,
I have installed DW CS6 from the cloud on my Mac. I have exported the sites from DW CS3, and then imported them in CS6.
After first time installation, none of my files would open after double-clicking on them ( I allways got the 'design-notes', even if I have switched it off in the site preferences). I could only open them by using right-click -> Open with Dreamweaver
After deleting DW6 and re-install, opening works with one site, but when switching to another site, the same anoying issue happens...
Design notes pop-up and the document doesn't open, only when using right-click -> Open with Dreamweaver.
Looks there is some kind off cache somewhere which is corrupted, but thats only a wild guess.
Please help, because for the time being I am switching back using DW CS3.
    Regards Will

    Hi Nancy,
its Mac OS X 10.8.2, and all associations are ok. ( Double clicking on a file in the Finder works ok ).
    In the meantime I have found the problem;
After deleting the folders of the sites in Users/<name>/Library/Application Support/Dreamweaver CS6/en_US/Configuration/SiteCache, and restarting Dreamweaver, all works ok.
And again, thanks for helping !
    Regards Will.

  • Dreamweaver & Microsoft Office cannot open files on target disk

I've set up my Macbook in Target Disk Mode and connect it via Thunderbolt cable to my iMac. (I'm trying to use the Macbook as a storage drive so I can use the iMac's screen, keyboard & mouse but not use up the hard drive space.) I'm able to access folders and files on the target disk (Macbook) from my iMac when programs like Keynote or Pages try opening them, but for some reason when I try to open the same files using Dreamweaver, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, I get messages like:
"PowerPoint cannot open the file /Volumes/Macintosh HD 1/Users/[file path]...The file may be corrupt, in use, not a type recognized by PowerPoint, or the file extension may not match the internal format of the file."
    Or:
"Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example, \/)."
Please keep in mind the files I am trying to open are .html, .doc, .docx, .pptx, .xlsx files, etc. So they should be opening easily with Dreamweaver & MS Office. Also, when I copy the files I want to open from the target disk and paste them onto my iMac, I am able to easily open them with Dreamweaver & MS Office. It's only when I try opening them directly from the target disk that I run into issues.
One more thing adding to my confusion is that when I use a Windows VM via Citrix Receiver to access my files on the target disk, I'm able to save & edit the target disk files with no problem.
Any idea what could be happening to cause this? Here are the specs of my machines below:
    iMac specs:
    OS X v10.9.4
Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    MS Office 2011 v14.4.3
    Dreamweaver CS6 v12.0
    Macbook specs:
    OS X v10.9.4
Processor: 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 16GB 1600 MHz DDR 3
    Thanks!

I believe I've solved this problem. It looks like even though a 1 was being added to the target disk's name (Macintosh HD 1), my iMac ignored it and looked for the files I was trying to open on its own hard drive. I changed the name of my target disk to "Macbook Macintosh HD 1" and I can now open my files.

  • IPhoto crashes (hangs) soon after opening after updating

I updated my iPhoto 09 this morning and on re-opening iPhoto after the update it hung after about 10-15 seconds with the spinning wheel of death.
I have rebooted the system and removed all 3rd party plugins to no effect.
    I have about 12,000 photos.
I have successfully removed iPhoto and all associated prefs and application support files and re-installed from the iLife DVD and all seems OK.
Not sure what Apple has done with this update but this is the 1st time in almost 5 years of updates that I have had an issue.
I hope Apple fixes this quickly for all those affected.
    Regards

    rr
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • InputFile value disappears after openning file

    I am using Jdev 11.1.16
Since a moment ago something weird started happening with an inputFile component. Right after you browse and open a file, the filename suddenly disappears from the component.
It doesn't matter if autosubmit is true or false, the filename suddenly disappears, is lost immediately after selecting a file.
I created a brand new page to isolate the issue with other stuff from the page, and the same behavior. What's going on?
I see some other posting on this issue, but no solution. This sounds like a bug as other mentioned, but I don't think so. A couple of days I worked with the inputFile component a no issues.
I have no clue on this.... Help please
    Thanks

Finally, I found the solution. The property usesUpload was missing in the parent form.
    <af:form usesUpload="true">
    <af:inputFile label="Upload:" value="#{managedBean.file}"/>
    <af:commandButton text="Begin" action="#{managedBean.doUpload}"/>
    </af:form>

  • Acrobat Pro hangs up when opening files

When opening any pdf, Acrobat Pro displays page 1 but then becomes unresponsive for a minute or more.  I run on a laptop and find that turning my wireless off returns program control.  Manually checking for updates tells me there are none available.  Please tell me how to stop this obnoxious behavior.

Thank you for that answer.  I checked, and mine were turned off.  However, I ran a program earlier today that may have turned it off.  I’ll wait a few days and see if the problem persists before marking this problem corrected.  But I really appreciate your email!  Thanks.
