Dreamweaver help! creating navigation bar?

how do i create a navigation bar. my dreamweaver help says a
nav bar has a up. down and over image but doesn't actually tell me
where to get this image or how to create it??
if this is going to be too complex i don't mind just having
my nav bars as text link but can't seem to spread my 7 links out
horizontally as i can only have two space bar in between each text?

You and me both my friend! I just got off the phone with
"tech support" trying to pay for a single incident ($35) so they
could walk me through putting a navigation bar on my website. It's
so frustrting dealing with some of these techs. I don't want to be
politically incorrect here, but I always wind up with someone I can
hardly understand ( accent ). This stuff is hard enough to follow
with a language barrier. Then I called in to tech support, they
told me I had to pay that I was out of complitmentary assistance,
so they transferred me to sales, who after speaking to two more
people I had trouble understanding, I was transferred back to tech.
support who asked me if I had paid for a plan! Then she says she
can take the credit card etc., when I got through with that she
tells me that she can't walk me through putting the nav. bar
directly on my web site, that I'll have to open a new page and to a
sample one. ( which means when I finish I'll have to remember all
the steps and try to duplicate it on my own site. ( you know how
that goes! ) It's infuriating. I wound up spending an hour and got
nothing, they couldn't even just charge my card so I'd have credit
toward one call later. ( I had to go after dealing with this for 45
minutes)
Anyway, You have to go to Firefox or maybe photoshop to
create the background image. I did some in Firefox, but for the
page background, not the nav. bar. You would open a new page, put
in the size ( pixels ) you need, then use the rectangle tool to
outline that which selects it. Then you can go to the bottom of the
screen and select the color and gradient tool to create some cool
color effects. The thing I don't know is how to know exactly what
size your navigation bar is going to be ahead of time so to size it
right. I understand it has to be exact. This tech told me that they
can't help with any "design issues", like color, where it goes in
your website, etc. If they talk you through how to do it on a blank
page and then you have trouble on your real website, well that's
another issue and another $35. But I don't even understand if they
will help you on the real website. NIGHTMARE!!!!

  • I need help importing navigation bars and rollover buttons from fireworks?

    I need help importing navigation bars and rollover buttons from fireworks, drop down menus and rollover states won't work!
    Thanks

    In my experience, the code created by graphics apps is less than satisfactory. And image based menus are very awkward for several reasons.
    #1 If you decide to change your menu later, you must go back to your graphics app and re-craft the whole thing.  After 2-3 times of this, it gets old in a hurry.
    #2 Image based menus cannot be "seen" by search engines, screen readers and language translators.
    #3 CSS styled text menus are better for your site's visibility, accessibility and they are a snap to edit in Dreamweaver.
    That said, if you're still married to image based menus, use Fireworks to create images only. Use Dreamweaver's Image Rollover Behaviors to create your rollover scripts.

  • What is the Behavior.Navigation URL for creating navigation bar links for search scopes for security group and distribution groups?

    ...the search scope is used to subset the SGs and DGs. The search scope itself shows expected results. The search scope filter used is: /Group[Type='Security' or Type='MailEnabledSecurity'][(Domain = 'DomainX') or (Domain = 'DomainY')]
    Tried the following, with the GUID being the resource ID from the search scope for security groups:
    ~/identitymanagement/aspx/customized/CustomizedObjects.aspx?type=Group&searchtype=e8ed98b6-e299-4b8d-bfe5-e4b2adf1cd60
    ~/IdentityManagement/aspx/groups/Groups.aspx?type=Group&searchtype=e8ed98b6-e299-4b8d-bfe5-e4b2adf1cd60
    Thanks

    are you talking about redirect URL in search scope ? FIM will automatically add the searchtype querystring
    for custom groups search scope you can use :
    ~/IdentityManagement/aspx/groups/AllGroups.aspx
    and configure you search scope to use the same UsageKeywords as for the security groups
    and restart your IIS server using the command "IISRESET"
    in your case if you want to create navigation bar link to your group-type search scope use may use this format:
    http://{your fim server}/IdentityManagement/aspx/groups/AllGroups.aspx?searchtype={your searchscope guid}&content=%2a
    ex : http://fimserver/IdentityManagement/aspx/groups/AllGroups.aspx?searchtype=47e0a973-0ab4-46f5-815f-f5028c1af58e&content=%2a

  • Help with navigation bar please.

    Hello, and thanks for your time. Im using Fireworks cs3 to make a navbar, but cant seem to get it to work. Im following this tutorial:
    http://www.bestechvideos.com/2008/09/02/adobe-cs-create-a-navigation-bar-in-fireworks
    My problem is, Im trying to make 5 buttons in the navbar, utilising an up/over and down state. When I try to navigate with them, (Im not too advanced
    either in ability or with the site itself) in a couple of test pages, my up and over states are fine, but the down state is not present, and, when I press the
    back button and return to the page Ive just clicked out of..my down button is working...but in the previous page. Im trying to get this for a school
    assignment and am hoping someone can put me right before I lose all my hair, thanks again.

    Hello again Pixlor, and thanks again. I understand what your saying about coding in Fireworks, but when I try to make my up/down/over buttons work just using Dreamweaver to make the navbar only the up/over work. Am I missing something simple. Im going through the proper procedures as far as I can tell, but when I view the pages in my browser the same problem persists
    I am trying to keep it simple but pop-up menus and active buttons are assignment requirements, but we didnt get too far into all that before the Easter holidays, all worked well in school but now nothing but problems. Thanks again for help, much appreciated
    I'm sorry I wasn't able to give you the answer you needed, though.
    EDIT: Well, finally got things to work. Needed to pay a bit more attention to detail and spent lots more time on this than I should have, but very happy with the result. I wasnt exporting "multiple files for use without frames" but once that glitch was ironed out all is well.
    Thanks for your efforts Pixlor, sometimes software sux, but when it works out we do tend to forget the frustration we suffered while getting there
    Yay for working menus, but a big round, "like that's clear!!" for the detail you needed to have checked. On the plus side, you probably won't ever forget this tidbit of information!
    I'm so glad it you got it worked out!

  • Dreamweaver Help | Create a CSS rule

    This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/using/create-new-css-rule.html

    Does anybody know how to place a new rule just after or before existing rule witch you do not know where is located among hundreds of rules in CSS Panel "ALL". Now, I have to search that rule manually  in CSS 'ALL' click on it and that create a new rule to plase the new rule before. It is a nightmare to organize css this way!. What is the best way to do it?

  • Add Image in the navigation bar of Help page

    Hi,
    I wanted to add image next to to the Search in the Help page navigation bar as in snapshot below:
    I wanted to add an image i.e the the logo next to above button in navigation bar. I tried adding , howevr could only add as Header, not right in the navigation pane. Correct me if I m wrong, the navigation control can be configured while generation web output. I coudnt find any other option to do this.
    Please let me your inputs on this.
    Thanks,
    Pallavi

    Hi all
    Sorry Colum, I think you are wrong. That looks exactly like a WebHelp Search dialog.
    Pallavi, I am thinking the answer for you may be a simple one. Use the WebHelp skin editor. There you should see an option to choose the image used for the Go button.
    I'm not exactly sure what version you are using. But I'll insert a screen capture of RoboHelp 7 below.
    My thought here is that you could create an image that includes your company logo along with the Go button. Then use that image for the Go button. Sure, both the company logo as well as the Go button would be clickable, but it should do the job, no?
    Cheers... Rick

  • How to create a navigation bar entry with onclick event

    I have requirement of creating navigation bar entry with a an "on click" event. When a user clicking time a location list should open. I didn't understand how to do it on NAVIGATIONBAR_ENTRY.
    Also Navigation Bar Entry IMage is not displaying.
    Regards
    Edited by: satheeshkumars on Oct 25, 2010 7:52 PM

    Do you specifically need to use the onclick event, or do you jts want to run Javascript from the navbar entry? If the latter then you can use the URL method and set the URL to:
    javascript:myfunction()
    If it must be an onclick event then I think you would need to attach it dynamically in Javascript (using jQuery if available) to locate the link somehow (it's not easy to give it a unique ID unfortunately).

  • Help creating an animated gif for a navbar!!

    Hey guys, I am very new to fireworks and dreamweave and am having a problem that is making my head spin! I have to create a simple animated .gif for a navigation bar (which will be made in dreamweaver). The navigation bar should function similar to this: http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~baronson/ITI320/Exercise2/functionality.html. Essentially, all that is happening is I create this animated image and in dreamweaver, when I create the AP NavBar, I set the mouseover to that image. My problem is that in comparison to this website's mouseover image  ( http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~baronson/ITI320/Exercise2/images/navi/audience_OVER.gif ) my animated gif has multiple layers and states, where as his only has one layer. I can't seem to figure out how to include both the text, and the gif image, and incorporate them under the same layer.
    A follow up question after having found how to incorporate both into the same state, would I have to lasso out each piece of my animated gif for the individual state I want to have it applied to?
    Any help/pointer to where the information can be found would be greatly appreciated. I've read through the manuals and watched many of Babbage's videos but haven't been able to figure this out. Thanks!

    Your gif doesn't need to have multiple layers, but it does need to have multiple states. To save yourself a lot of confusion, create the animated gifs first, and then export them. Create your navbar in the usual way, with simple rolloveres or swap images. Export the navbar.Rename the animated gifs with the names of the over state of the navbar images, and then delete (or mone to another folder) the over state images of the navbar. Move the renamed gif animations into the image folder of the navbar. Preview in browser. The animated gifs should have replaced the original over state of the buttons.

  • Validation errors javascript navigation bar

    I created a navigation bar using Dreamweaver CS3 wizard. I
    got several error messages. After I replaced all the uppercase
    letters with lower case, I had only one error message. I know
    nothing about javascript and I may have messed something up.
    Dreamweaver put the navigation bar in a table. I got rid of the
    table and put it in div tags. I also moved the part that goes in
    the head to an external sheet. Here is coding from the page:
    quote:
    <div id="mainNav">
    <div class="buttons"> <a href="#" target="_top"
    onClick="MM_nbGroup('down','group1','home','images/buttons/home2.jpg',1)"
    onMouseOver="MM_nbGroup('over','home','images/buttons/home2.jpg','',1)"
    onMouseOut="MM_nbGroup('out')"><img name="home"
    src="images/buttons/home2.jpg" border="0" alt=""
    onLoad="MM_nbGroup('init','group1','home','images/buttons/home1.jpg',1)"
    /></a> </div>
    <div class="buttons"> <a href="javascript:;"
    target="_top"
    onClick="MM_nbGroup('down','group1','About','images/buttons/about2.jpg',1)"
    onMouseOver="MM_nbGroup('over','About','images/buttons/about2.jpg','',1)"
    onMouseOut="MM_nbGroup('out')"><img name="About"

    /></a></div>
    <div class="buttons"> <a href="javascript:;"

    src="images/buttons/contact1.jpg" border="0" alt="" onLoad=""

    </div>
    <!--mainNav-->
    And the error messages:
    quote:
    Line 33, Column 302: there is no attribute "onload".
    …/home2.jpg" border="0" alt=""
    onload="MM_nbGroup('init','group1','home','imag

    If I may throw another javascript question in.... Dreamweaver
    threw something into the body tag that appears to be preloading the
    images
    "<body
    onload="MM_preloadImages('images/buttons/about2.jpg','images/buttons/support2.jpg','image s/buttons/contaqct2.jpg','../images/buttons/home1.jpg','../images/buttons/home2.jpg')">"
    Can this be moved to the external sheet or is this the same
    thing which is in the external sheet:
    "function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0
    var d=document; if(d.images){ if(!d.MM_p) d.MM_p=new
    Array();
    var i,j=d.MM_p.length,a=MM_preloadImages.arguments; for(i=0;
    i<a.length; i++)
    if (a
    .indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a;}}
    Thanks.

    It should only take you a few weeks to discover what a bad

    DW will not do this. Furthermore, if you rename or move a
    linked file, you
    will break that link, since DW cannot manage them either.

    I have created Navigation Bar entries in a master application and have created them in a secondary application using 'Copy and Subscribe'.
    I changed my entries in the master application and I wanted to republish them.
    Breadcrumb region is currently: Shared Components>Navigation Bar Entries>Edit
    Click on 'Publish NavBar' button and page navigates to "Confirm Publish Navigation Bar", breadcrumb changes to: Shared Components>Templates>Confirm Publish Template
    Click on 'Refresh All'.
    Page now navigates to the "Templates" page. Breadcrumb is Shared Components>Templates.
    I now have to navigate back to the Navigation Bar Entries section to publish my next entry.

  • Navigation Bars not working as expected...

    role based navigation...
    We have 7 different roles with a different page look and feel
    for each role.
    Based on each role, portlet layouts and page contents will be
    different.
    We need to drive tabs and pages based on these roles...How do we
    do that?
    The second, related part of the problem is creating navigation
    bars based on those user roles. We have pretty much a static set
    of navigation bars to show. But, since there are 7 different
    pages, we need to know how to point the links within
    each "navigation button" to the current page, showing the
    contents of the link INSIDE the current page.
    Refer to:
    http://portalstudio.oracle.com/servlet/page?
    pageid=1768&dad=ops&_schema=OPSTUDIO&7562_MAINPAGE_39847486.p_s
    ubid=40679&7562_MAINPAGE_39847486.p_sub_siteid=73&7562_MAINPAGE_3
    9847486.p_edit=0&7560_MAINPAGE_39847486.p_subid=40679&7560_MAINPA
    GE_39847486.p_sub_siteid=73&7560_MAINPAGE_39847486.p_edit=0
    as an example of what we need to do.

    I can't suggest anything other than the features you're already
    aware of. You can have different tabs on a page with different
    privileges on each tab - users will only see the tabs for which
    they are authorized. Similarly, users will only see the
    portlets for which they are authorized. If those security
    features don't work for you, then the next release of Portal
    (iASV2) will support function-based security, where you can
    write a procedural rule that executes at run time.
    The portalstudio link doesn't work, so I'm not sure what you're
    referring to.

  • WebCenter Navigation Bar

    Hi All,
    We want to create Navigation Bar in webcenter. This Navigation bar we want to be content driven being authored and generated through UCM. Being content driven, we can change its content in future .
    We have Top Menu as Wecome Support Feedback and each of these Menu has 3 submenus.
    we have XML in UCM that reflects this Menu SubMenu structure.
    How can we drive and use this XML to generate webcenter Menus and Submenus. ? Is there any ready builtin approach ?
    This is good since, tomorrow if we want to change Menu name FeedBack to SAy MyFeedBack we do this change just in UCM XML and done ! we wont have to change in webcenter code.
    OR, if there is any other way we can achive this apart from keeping it in UCM XML and yet be able to do changes dynamically ???

    First you need to retreive the XML from your UCM. You can also store the XML in an oracle DB. Oracle is auiet good for storing XML in a database...
    But if you want to keep track of changes and version, than UCM is a good way.
    Than you should read this paper:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/48-sitemenu-protection-169190.pdf
    It describes how to create menus based upon XML.
