Dreamweaver index.html

Hello, guys!
In dreamweaver I can't find my index.html anymore. It should be on the right side where some other things are written.
Do you know how I can get it back?
Thanks in advance

Ensure you are looking in Local View and your previously defined Local Site Folder is showing in the Files Panel.  See screenshot.  If necessary, press the + Sign to expand the folder.

Too bad. You know what the downsides of this are, right?

  • How to add an extra page to the index.html page on dreamweaver CS6?

How to add an extra page to the index.html page on dreamweaver CS6?

Index.html = your domain's home page.  There is only one home page per site.
To create a new page from your index, go to File > SaveAs > filename.html.  Repeat for other site pages.  Add links on your index page that lead to other site pages.

  • Index.html file locks up Dreamweaver, TextEdit and Word

I've been doing design work (print & web) on the Mac for 20+ years and this problem has me stumped:
Yesterday I went to open my tried and true index.html file and it locked up Dreamweaver every time. I re-started the computer, ran Disk Utilities, deleted the Dreamweaver configuration cache file, renamed the file, downloaded a backup of the file, etc. Nothing worked. This file ALSO causes TextEdit and Word to lock up.
I can open all other dreamweaver files and can't imagine what is causing this file to dump. The file works in all web browsers, and I can even view/copy the source code out of Safari. But, when I tried and paste to source code to create/save a new text file, whatever application I'm using (dreamweaver/textedit/word) locks up. I finally created a brand new index file out of desperation, and that appears to work fine.
Does anyone have any ideas?? (Link to problem file: http://www.pencilplace.com/index_bu.html)
    Thanks,
    Kelli

I re-started the computer, ran Disk Utilities, deleted the Dreamweaver configuration cache file, renamed the file, downloaded a backup of the file, etc. Nothing worked.
First, you say you "ran Disk Utilities", but that is a very vague statement. Disk Utility is a tool that can do many things, so what exactly did you do with it? If you repaired the hard drive (not permissions), were any errors found, and were those errors fixed?
Second, have to tried opening the HTML file with a plain text editor like [TextWrangler|http://www.barebones.com/products/TextWrangler>? If it can open fine in an editor that won't even try rendering any HTML, but crashes all those other editors that are probably trying to render the HTML, there may be something subtly wrong with the code... though, I've never seen anything like that, so I wouldn't know what to look for.

  • Creating an Index HTML in Dreamweaver?

I am new to Dreamweaver and was trying to up
load my web to the server.  It seems most servers require an INDEX HTML as the opening p
age.  However, dreamweaver does not create this.  I have afolder with
the home page files in it.  How do I make these pages the index.  Its a frame s
    et page

No I do understand completely.  It is now corrected.  Was simply not aware
that DW requires an HTML named index.  Some others automatically create an
index page as your first page.  I have been in contact with my host server
and have now corrected.  Now, when I go to my temp URL I see exactly what I
wish to see.  Part of the issue was the way DW handles Frames pages (still
not sure I get that part?);  although I do now have it working.  I simply
pointed my server to a new location IE the home page and did not create an
index page.  My home page is a Frame set page with links to other pages.
Once my domain has been transferred I'll be glad to share the site with you.
Perhaps you can provide additional info to a novice DW user.  I have used
other web sites and have other webs published etc..  Just feel that DW
offers lots more capabilities and am still learning that program.
Thanks for your assistance and look forward to continued conversation and
    assistance!

  • Why is my flash content not working on my dreamweaver created html site?

This is a problem that's happening on my website I'm creating.  I created a quick test website to show you the problem on the fourm.  It's the same problem, and if you can provide the solution to this test website I can apply it to my main website.
    Test website on server:
    test331754952.net23.net
    What I did:
    -launched flash
-typed "test" and made it spin 360 degrees
    -published swf
    -launched dreamweaver
    -created a site
    -moved swf to site folder
-saved a html file to the site folder
-in dreamweaver, went to insert, media, swf, then selected the swf I made
-it inserted the swf, creating a gray placeholder for it
-re-saved the html document, at which point dreamweaver created a folder named script and 2 files, an swf, and a javascript file
    Site Directory:
    Scripts Sub-Directory:
    What happens:
-when I launch the swf on my machine, it plays fine
-when I open the swf directly on the test website on the server, it plays fine
-when I open the html with the embended swf on the test website on the server, it shows a gray box, then goes white
-In dreamweaver, when I go to preview in browser and choose internet explorer, it tells me I don't have new flashplayer(I do: flashplayer 11)
Ie also pokes up a box at the bottom that says its not allowing content.  When I click allow content, it creates a gray box
-In dreamweaver, when I go to preview in borwser and choose google chrome, it tells me flash player has stopped a potentionally unsafe operation.  When I close this dialog box, it gives me a gray box where my swf should be embeded.
-I've tried changing global flash secuirty setting and it does nothing
-I've tried visiting the test website on multiple computers in my household to no avail
-I've tried having friends visit the site on their computer at their house to no avail
-I did't touch the code on this test website-the code is exactly what dreamweaver generated

There is no Flash player version 15... as in your code:
    <param name="swfversion" value="15.0.0.0" />
For some reason Adobe thought it would be a good idea to target a Flash player version (15) as default.....which may be out a couple years in the future. Go figure!!!
If you don't like player version 9, change to 10 or 11.... just not 15 (yet).
    Best wishes,

  • Does DW recognize default.htm / index.html?

I'm new to Dreamweaver and am working on an existing web
site. Web servers typically load up a "default.htm" or "index.html"
page when you give it a URL with just the directory name, e.g.
    http://foo.bar/about/. Most of
the links in my site are set up that way. How can I get Dreamweaver
to recognize that <a href="/about/"> is not a broken link? Or
does it automatically know to look for default.htm?

He is gaining a URL that never changes, according to

Thanks for the information about Flash no longer being the best or contemporary way to design web sites. This shows me how long I've been away from designing them.
I will redesign my web site in Dreamweaver very soon, as I would like it to play on iOS devices.
But at the moment I would just like to see my Flash page working in a browser.
I have inserted my Flash page in to Dreamweaver, and new code has been automatically added. But still the navigation button doesn't work.

  • In Dropbox, mobile index.html file does not open in Ipad with ios7

Before upgrading to ios7 the index.html file opened to text.  Ios7 was to correct this, but the file will not open in a browser.

I don't think this is a Flash Player problem, but possibly something wrong on your website.
Try asking in the Dreamweaver forum.

  • Can folders' index.html contents avoid containing such folders' names within their urls, please?

Could Dreamweaver’s file panel folders (located to the right, within Dreamweaver CS5.5, etc.)  potentially contain index.html files that do NOT share such folders’ actual names within their own urls?
The reason I ask is that I would like to create various index.html sub-directories that will all be linked from yet another index.html subdirectory, for web surfers’ convenience.   It would really help me keep them all organized (for occasional updates' sake) if I could keep them in a folder within Dreamweaver’s file panel that at least resembles that other index.html subdirectory’s name, though.   However, it seems that moving index.html files to such an "alpha" folder inserts that alpha folder’s name into the contained urls, not just its own.   Can this be avoided or worked around, somehow, please?     In case it helps, I have CS5.5 and will have CS6 upon its release date.   Any thoughts, please?

Thanks for the preliminary response.   It would really help me keep index.html files organized (for occasional updates' sake) if I could keep them in a folder within Dreamweaver’s file panel  (to the right) whose name does NOT appear in those individualized urls.
To give you an example of why I'd like to be able to do this, let's say one wants to have a folder named California, and that various index.html files will be linked from the actual California page.   If one wants to update all pages that belong in the California directory, without having to sort through pages that correspond with (for example) Oregon or Arizona that one ALSO maintains, it could be greatly facilitated if such index.html files could be organized into a California file or something whose name is close to it.   If a page is named "Sacramento" then it need not have California in the url.  Indeed, longer urls are less appealing for the purposes of this endeavor.    So in using this concrete example as background, perhaps my initial question makes more sense now?   At any rate, thanks for trying

  • Can I delete "index.html" from URL as it appears in browser?

    Hello,
I notice websites often appear in the browser ending in just ".com" with no "index.html" after it.
Is there any way to not have that appear?
    Thanks,
    Jane

The default extension should be either  .htm or .html, .shtml or .php -- depending on the type of files you work with most.

  • Problems with index.html

When I first started using dreamweaver mx 2004 I created my
site in what I now think might be the wrong way but that was what
the books that I was using at the time said to do.
I created a site folder and then I created the homepage. I
then created two more folders inside the site folder, one called
text_copy and one called images_copy (in a different website I
created everything inside the main site folder-images,homepage and
    text files all live together).
This original method of separating everything has come back
    to haunt me.
Dreamweaver wants your homepage called index.html and when I
    type in my domain-
    dimension x toys
the homepage comes up. But the problem is none of the
javascript pull down menus that I have created work on the
homepage. They work on all of the other pages in the site but not
this one. I created another page called index and set it inside the
    main text_copy folder. This page-
    index2
has the pull downs work but it cannot be accessed as the
    homepage.
    Is the only alternative to
    1. re-create the entire site
    2. move all the information from the other folders out into
    the main folder.
I hope there is a solution with what I currently have because
the website is a lot of pages. Option 2 is less work but all of the
links to the other files and images would be broken and it still
while less, would be a considerable amount of work as I have a
great many pages to the website.
    Thank you for your time.

you have to change the paths for the root level index page.
    The links won't
have the same relative path as the ones that are in the
    subfolder.
did you just copy/paste the menu onto the index page from a
    page in the
subfolder? Or do a "save as"?
Look in the head section of the code.
The sections of javascript that start with mm_menu are the
    instructions for
    how that menu works.
    mm_menu_1215135054_0.addMenuItem("13 INCH FIGURES","location='../t
    ext_copy/batman13family.html'");
for the root level homepage index.html file, that link should
    be:
    mm_menu_1215135054_0.addMenuItem("13 INCH FIGURES","location='text
    _copy/batman13family.html'");
    Look at the location= part.
    notice i took out ../
and actually- for the menu on pages IN the text_copy folder
    linking to other
pages IN the text_copy folder- the correct relative path
    would be:
    mm_menu_1215135054_0.addMenuItem("13 INCH FIGURES","location='batm
    an13family.html'");
There's no need to go Up a folder, then go down into the same
    current
    folder.
another way to do it, so it's the same on all the pages,
    would be to use the
    full absolute http path.
    mm_menu_1215135054_0.addMenuItem("13 INCH FIGURES","location='http
    ://www.dimensionxtoys.com/text_copy/batman13family.html'");
note- those menus have problems and are a maintenence
    nightmare. A menu
built from tutorials and free extensions at
    http://projectseven.com would
make life easier and work better.

  • When I load an index.html file, the page looks fine, but when I refresh, the page shrinks.

I am using Dreamweaver. I open an index.html file in Firefox and it looks fine. When I make changes, and then refresh in Firefox, the page will shrink. If I close out Firefox and open the file in Firefox, it's fine until it's refreshed and then it shrinks again.
The file has one background image that is 1024px by 768px. I made sure the browser was completely open and I have a 27 inch monitor, so there is no reason for it to shrink down.
I've opened the same file in Chrome and Explorer and this doesn't happen.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox hoping this would help, but it didn't.
Suggestions on how to make this stop?

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

  • Index.html created by Bridge Web Gallery has VBGetSwfVer error

I'm running CS6 under Win7 and IE9. I have used Bridge to create a web gallery but when I try and execute the generated index.html file I get a (script?) error:
Clicking eather Yes or No has no impact - just a blank screen.
I have not modified the generated index.html. Also, it does not matter if I have used CS5 or CS6. The generated file works elsewhere (at college Win7, CS5) so it has to be something to do with a setting on my PC but what?
I have reinstalled the latest version of Flash Player and I have the correct add-on enabled:
    What's wrong?
    Line 116 reads: versionStr = VBGetSwfVer(i);
The function is defined on line 55+"
    Function VBGetSwfVer(i)
      on error resume next
      Dim swControl, swVersion
      swVersion = 0
      set swControl = CreateObject("ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash." + CStr(i))
      if (IsObject(swControl)) then
        swVersion = swControl.GetVariable("$version")
      end if
      VBGetSwfVer = swVersion
    End Function
    I'm stumped - help please.

    Hi Mike,
glad you got it working.  I did take a look at this page:
    http://www.oliverdesignstudios.com/HEREWEGO/MHO%20ORIGINALS/index.html
    and this page:
    http://www.oliverdesignstudios.com/Custom%20Business%20Card%20Designs/index.html
I know you said you moved foldes around until it started working - that's a bit drastic and lucky that none of your links got broken  :-)
Back to the folder names.  You should never use upper case NOR use spaces when naming folders or files.  You may end up with browser incompatibilityand some servers can choke if type of naming convention is used.  Also some hosts don't support upper case,(linux in particular),.   It's best to use lower case at all times and if you need a space use an underscore or hyphen instead.  eg:  custom-business-card-designs/
Now if you want to go and rename any folders or files, fo it all via the Dreamweaver File Panel, so that DW can keep track of what you're changing, so that you don't get broken links.
Actually now that you mentioned moving folders etc.,  are you working in a Defined Dreamweaver Site?  That's the very first thing you need to set up when starting a new project in Dreamweaver:
    Define a site:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/140/tn_14028.html
Hope some of this helps  :-)

  • The URL field only shows "index.html"

My org website is working okay, just a simple html site with javascript buttons and a more technical search function on the way. However, throughout the website, that is, whether a visitor is on the "Home" screen, or the "Hope & Help" screen, or the "Professionals" screen (etc.), the URL field only shows "index.html" -- clearly I must have made a mistake when I set up the new site, but where? What do I need to look at, and what do I need to do to correct the glitch? Please view the .org at:

    Thank you!

It's because you're using frames when there's no reason to.
Each content page is actually a separate webpage inside the parent frame.
The easiest way to resolve this would be to re-build the site using a pre-made template inside Dreamweaver then cut and paste the content into the various pages.
