Dreamweaver MX 2004 with Contribute CS3
Good Afternoon,
I have Adobe CS3 Web Premium edition, but a colleague located
interstate is using DreamWeaver MX 2004. I would like him to design
a dreamweaver template for use in Contribute CS3. Are there any
known compatibility issues with doing this, or any DreamWeaver CS3
features that we would maybe miss out on?
Thanks in advance!
I don't think this would be a problem, since you can
administer the site from within Contribute. The template souirce
code hasn't changed, so Contribute will find the templates and the
editable regions.
You could always decide to turn of the compatiblity in
dreamweaver if there are problems with the cheking in and out
system.

Client can't edit site with Contribute CS3
I put a site online last week (www.dunelakeslodge.co.nz) and
supplied my
client with Contribute CS3 to update it, supplying her a
connection key.
She is connecting OK, but when she tries to edit a page she
gets a
message saying she "can't edit this page because Dave Addison
(that's
me) is already editing it. Please contact blah, blah...".
I have connected to the site myself with Contribute 3, and
got a similar
error: "you can't edit this site because you are already
editing it on
another computer"!!
It gave me the option to "unlock" the page, which I selected,
and I was
then able to edit the page. However, my client still can't.
Anyone got a solution to this?
thanks
DaveI'm sure someone here will be able to help, but just curious
if you've tried
posting in the Contribute forum at all?
Take care,
Shane H

I'm working for a gallery with Contribute CS3, and we have recently had the Mac updated to Mountain Lion. Unfortunately, Contribute will no longer open. When I try to launch the program, a dialog box pops up and reads "No Document types have been found. The application will exit now." To add fuel to this fire, no one here seems to be able to locate the original install discs. Is this something I can fix, or is it time to update the program entirely?
Thanks in advance,
Melanie DavisI don't think that CS3 is going to run on Mountain Lion. You'll probably need to upgrade at this point.

Dreamweaver CS3 incompatible with Contribute CS3
All my Conribute connections no longer work with DW CS3 &
CT CS3. Why?
1. I have correctly set up a remote connection in Contribute.
The contribute connection to the website IP is established.
2. The FTP connection from DW to the website IP is also
correctly established and working.
3. The connection information is identical for both
applications and verified.
4. PROBLEM: When trying to set up the Contribute connection
from within DW, the following error msg appears: "Dreamweaver could
not connect to the remote server. You cannot perform Contribute
administration tasks without a connection to the remote server.
Please fix the remote connection before proceeding."
5. NOTE: When the "Administer Site in Contribute" (or Test)
button is clicked in DW, it appears that several files are being
loaded to the remote server before the error message appears.
Subsequent attempts at clicking the buttons seems to load more
files. Very weird.
6. FACTS: There is no problem with the remote connection from
either DW or CT.
QUESTION: What's up with this message? Why is there a failure
to communicate between these two application that wasn't there
before?
Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Chris KaneContribute Connections have always sucked and break for a
variety of reasons. There is little acknowledgment or support from
Adobe on this issue, and many threads offer cryptic server settings
that should only be employed by a qualified web administrator.
You can sometimes solve the problem by trying some different
FTP settings.
In Dreamweaver Remote Info settings:
Passive FTP ON/OFF, or Server Compatibility--FTP Performance
optimization ON/OFF
In Contribute Advanced FTP settings, try toggling the
settings ON/OFF
Be willing to blow away your previous Administrative
Settings, so you will need to rebuild all of the roles,
permissions, and users.... -
Hi, i've made my web site using iWeb and uploaded it to my iDisk using iWeb
I have a blog page made with iWeb
can I use Adobe Contribute CS3 to modify and create blog entries on my site?
I ask because I have a friend who i'd like to have a blog on the site but don't want to hassle of syncing two different copies of iweb
any help appreciated, Dcontribute seems to be able to connect to your .mac web hosting
My impression is that it cannot connect to the space used by iWeb, only to iDisk/Sites, used by Homepage. Is that right?
any ideas on how to edit iweb blogs without using iweb? i know its a tough one
I can't imagine there is any practical way to do this. You should use blogger or some other blogging system if you need that capability. -
Contribute CS3 embeds the contents of SSI Includes into page after Edit and Publish
I have tried every possible way to figure this out but it
seems as though no one has this problem or a solution...
My Dreamweaver CS3 Template based files that have SSI
Includes placed in a "non-editable region" of a template and/or
nested templates are continually embedded, merged, or hard-coded (I
used those keywords for anyone else who might be searching for help
on this frustrating issue) into the page after it has been edited
and published with Contribute CS3 for Windows.
After many, many, hours and days rebuilding templates
(thinking that it was my code), experimenting with .htaccess
include_path variables, and cursing this application, I have come
to one conclusion - if I put my includes within "editable regions"
in the templates or the template based pages, edit and publish the
page with Contribute - then the page is saved normally, with the
includes intact and not embedded within the page. This is of course
not necessarily desirable!
I have tried using various types of include directives like:
<?php include('footer.inc'); ?>
<?php require('footer.inc'); ?>
<?php virtual(footer.php'); ?>
<!--#include file="footer.inc"-->
<!--#include virtual="footer.inc"-->
All Includes are merged into the template-based page after
the page has been edited and published with Contribute - if they
are in "non-editable regions"!
Please, someone point me in the right direction - if it's
calling Adobe's Help line, or posting the files or whatever. I
can't finish this project and hand off to the client until this is
resolved.
AndrewHi,
I'd be reall interested to know if you got anywhere with this as I'm having the same problem.
The article referenced further down this thread is no longer available either.
Any suggestions or advice on this issue would be much appreciated.
Cheers,

Dreamweaver template not updating Contribute pages
Currently I'm trialing Dreamweaver (MX) and Contribute
(3.11), to check
that it's a workable solution for my company, in terms of
editing and
auditing, but right now I'm having a problem.
I have some templates (.dwt files) that I create in
Dreamweaver, for
use with Contribute, i.e. I create the template, other people
create
the content for our site based on the those templates.
The issue is that when I make a change to the template, I
would expect
the pages created in Contribute to be refreshed to use the
new
template, but that doesn't appear to be happening. The only
way I can
get the page to be updated is to edit the page in Contribute,
go to the
Format menu and choose 'Template Properties', then hit OK
again to
close this dialog. I then see the page refresh with the new
template
changes.
Am I doing something wrong? I would expect, as I mentioned,
to have all
pages automatically updated when the template is saved, and
published.
Is there a setting I need to turn on, or a procedure of
publishing the
template that I need to adhere to?
any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for the reply Mark. While I think I've found most of
the things you mentioned since my first post, it is useful to get
confirmation of my finding, which appears to be consistent with
your post.
Here's what I've found, and later, why I'm not really liking
it:
If I edit the .dwt file in Dreamweaver and try to save it, I'm
prompted to only update those files I have locally that reference
the template.
I can only update those local files that are checked out,
though the saving process will check them out automatically
If I create a new page using Contribute, I must refresh the
templates first
My concerns are:
if I can only update those files I have locally, then do I need
to have the whole remote site stored locally too? My company site
is huge (as it's translated into 6 languages) and has multiple
contributors/editors. It sounds like I will have to download the
entire site before I edit a template, and put it back again
afterwards. Is that right?? it sounds rediculous, so I'm sure I've
got it wrong.
if I have the files locally, I must check them out before or
while saving the template. However, I then have to check them back
in manually. Again, with potentially 300 to 400 pages per template,
that's a lot of manual checking-in. If the saving process can
automatically check pages out, can it also automatically check them
in again??
Like you, Mark, I find it strange that Contribute requires a
manual refreshing of templates. I've searched all the options I can
find, but I don't see an auto-refresh templates setting, which
would be sooo useful. As it stands I will have to instruct each
editor/contributor to refresh before they create a new page, and
pray that they do.
any further advice from Contribute/Dreamweaver users would be
greatly appreciated. How do users with very large website handle
this? Are there any tricks or hints that you can pass on? -
Installing Contribute CS3 on Win 7/64 home edition
On going through the long slow process of installing software on Win7 I ran into a snag with Contribute CS3. I have the downloaded version burnt to a CD which I have never had a problem installing from on XP. With Win7, after agreeing to the terms of licence, I got a message to insert the CD. Needless to say it was already inserted. I took it out and then put it back in, no joy. I then attemped to install from the folder where the original download had been stored. Same problem.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, but! I don't get as far as entering the code, see attachment of screen shot. The copy I have is a downloaded "try and buy" which I have never had a problem installing from before. I also tried installing in XP Mode (I've upgraded to the Pro edition) but got the same error message.

Contribute CS3 (Mac) Crashes ... a lot!
Curious if there's something that possibly conflicts with
Contribute CS3 (v. 4.1) that could cause it to be unstable. In the
past I noticed it would crash too often during very normal tasks on
uncomplex web pages (saving, etc...).
Just did a full reformat/reinstall of all the original
software on my Macbook Pro - everything (including Contribute)
seemed to be running great up until just a few hours ago - it
crashed at least 5 times in about two hours! First couple times I
restarted the system, then when it kept crashing, I would just hit
"reopen" and it would, and I would keep
working.
Any idea why this is happening so often? I don't have any
unusual software on my system.
[]Creative Suite 3 Web Premium
[]Office X
[]Final Cut Pro/DVD Studio Pro
[]Fetch
[]A Better Finder Rename
[]Canon Powershot software
That's about all I've put on so far.
Anyone experience Contribute being very unstable? Ideas
why?Yes, there is definitely something unstable. Reinstalling on
a fresh hard drive (so no old preferences) did not make these
crashes go away.
Adobe... you've got stability problems here. -
Contribute CS3 will not publish Flash Player
A few months ago the company I work for bought Contribute CS3
to edit our website. The homepage of our website contains a Flash
Player file. When I edit and publish this homepage Contribute will
not publish the Flash Player file this section just shows up blank
stating movie not loaded when I bring up our website. The same
thing happens even when I do a 'send for review' before I actually
publish the page. I have administrator rights through Contribute to
edit this website therefore I am confused as to why Contribute will
not publish this Flash Player file. I have also tired to reinsert
the Flash file while editing in Contribute and still the file will
not publish. Would anyone know why this would happen?
Thanks! Is this occurring with other Web CS applications or only with
Contribute CS3? For general troubleshooting of Web CS products

Installation of Contribute CS3
I just downloaded Contribute CS3 but having problems loading
it on computer. Here's my problem. I have a an older Intel based

Is there anyone out there running this software with the

My question...is this still supported/encouraged with
Contribute CS3? -
Contribute CS3 compatibility with Dreamweaver MX 2004
I haven't upgraded my Dreamweaver MX 2004 to 8 or CS3 - I
mostly handcode XHTML / CSS ... I have a client who is ideal for
Contribute for the content management needs, but I want to make
sure that I won't be forced into a manditory upgrade situation for
myself to both Dreamweaver CS3 and Contribute CS3 in order to
support them (and I've used Contribute 2 with older clients for a
while).Have you found an answer for this. I am in a similar
situation, in CS3 Mac. If I use www.mysite.com/www, which is the
folder for ftp purposes, I get:
Dreamweaver could not find a page at the specified site root
URL. Please check the site root URL.
If I just go to the main url, www.mysite.com, I get:
Dreamweaver could not connect to the remote server. You
cannot perform Contribute administration tasks without a connection
to a remote server. Please fix the remote connection before
continuing.
I've tried it on another site I administer and it worked
fine, so I'm wondering if it's something to do with the
configuration of the server, but my hosts haven't got any answers
either...
Any pointers gratefully received. -

Dreamweaver MX2004 + Contribute CS3
Can anyone tell me whether Contribute CS3 can work with
templates created in Dreamweaver MX2004 and whether the contribute
user can view (& copy) the HTML of a created page?
We use a Lotus Notes CMS at the moment (out of my hands at
the moment) and want to use Dreamweaver + Contribute to create html
to copy & paste into the Notes CMS.
Will there be a trial version of Contribute available?Contribute CS3 will recognize the Dreamweaver Mx 2004
templates and work with them. But Dreamweaver MX 2004 will not
recognize Contribute CS3 as a version it can work with.
Trials ussually are available within 6 weeks if the main
release. -
Contribute CS3 & Dreamweaver CS3
I do volunteer work for a pet rescue website. I started out
editing their pages with Dreamweaver CS3. When the work load got
out of control, one of the rescue members decided to help out by
using Contribute CS3. After a few months, I noticed there was a lot
of lag loading this one page we were both updating on a daily
basis.
In Dreamweaver, in design mode, the page appeared to be fine
but when looking at the source code, there were thousands of empty
lines that had been generating for who knows what reason. The
amount of lines was over 50K. I manually went in there and deleted
all the empty lines and ended up with about 600 lines total of
code. Everything was back to normal and my helper continued using
Contribute CS3 and I used DW, until a few days later when I noticed
the blank lines were back. Not as many as there were before but
they were certainly adding up and were definitely adding to the
loading time.
I did what I could to clean up the code and although there
are some empty lines left at the top of the file, the rest of the
file is ok now. I asked the Contribute helper to not make anymore
updates for the time being. I haven't seen any more blank lines
added since she stopped. So my best guess is that Contribute CS3 is
causing all the problems.
Is there something in Contribute CS3 publishing preferences
that may be causing this problem? I couldn't find anything in the
manuals except something about Line Breaks but that didn't have
anything to do with the code. Could it also be a server problem?
Not sure where I would begin looking. Any help would be
appreciated.
Here is a link to the file I am referring to:
http://www.norcalgsprescue.com/adopt.shtml
Thanks!I've had similar issues, but not to the extent you seem to be
getting it. I know if you are using templates or server-side code,
the lines that do not propagage to your web client are removed, but
the source code lines are not collapsed...
Anyway, when I had a similar problem, it would putting an
extra line for each line in the html code... If you are on a
Linux/Unix Web server... go to Administer Website...Edit Role
Settings...Select the 'Editing' option on the left side of the
panel... at the very bottom, make sure 'Line Break Type' is set to
'Unix (LF)'
Hope that helps
