Dreamweaver MX and Contribute 4

Do I need to upgrade to Dreamweaver CS4 inorder to have it work correctly with Contribute4? My client has purchased Contribute 4 so he can edit his sites as needed but I am unable to administer the site in Dreamweaver (it's looking for vs. 2 though I downloaded the trial for vs.4). I have been unsuccessful in trying everything already located in forums, etc. and would appreciate any help or advice offered.

I believe the structure of contribute has changes with version 4,  (more features, etc) and getting it to work with MX would be like trying to update MX to CS4 (you get the complete new version if you upgrade).
However many of the main features from contribute v2 are still valid in v4.
Upgrading is probably your only reliable option.

    Hi,
I want to upgrade do Dreamweaver CS4 and some of my authors
use Contribute CS3. Will both be compatible or will they have to
    upgrade do Contribute CS4?
    Thanks
    robert

    1. start Contribute
    2. main menu >Edit>Administer Websites>Choose
    website
    3. choose Administration from the list on the left
    4. click the button 'Remove Administration'

  • Dreamweaver 8 and Contribute CS3

Is Contribute CS3 compatible with Dreamweaver 8?

Since Dreamweaver users checkout the files, Lock will be
created for those file (.LCK), so Contribute users can't edit the
page until the files are checked in and lock is released.

  • Dreamweaver and Contribute wont open

I purchased both Dreamweaver and Contribute 6.5 and neither will open on my Macbook Pro running OS 10.8.4

Bowenmac please check your Dreamweaver installation logs for any errors during the installation.  You can find details on reviewing your installation logs at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html
Also for your concerns regarding Contribute I would recommend posting a new discussion to the Contribute forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/contribute.  The users in this forum are going to be familiar with installation and launch related difficulties regarding Contribute.

  • Using PHP with Dreamweaver and Contribute

I work for a small to medium government agency and we are re-vamping our website. Money and staff are very minimal here, so any hope of one or two full-time people managing the entire website, or of purchasing a content management system, are totally out of the question.
My question is: for a group of people that are capable of using either Adobe Contribute or Dreamweaver in Design View only, are there any disadvantages or problems with using PHP?
Here's more detail: In our situation, we really don't have the choice of editing straight HTML code, since many of our users would not be capable of doing so. If we could afford a full-time web person, that would be an option, but that's not possible at this point. Some of our users are going to be limited to using Adobe Contribute as well, which is a simpler option for some of the less-experienced users. Nonetheless we want our site to have a professional and consistent look, so  a technology like PHP would allow us to repeat content across many websites. By the way, that's all we'd be using PHP for as far as I know; just to enable me to edit a single page and thus change the navigation content across the whole site.
Does anyone know of a reason why we couldn't build the site using very simple, limited PHP and allow people to edit it using Dreamweaver design view and Adobe Contribute?
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions that you can provide!
P.S. We have also considered Dreamweaver templates, and so far that isn't working, due to the multi-login setup that we have.
P.S.S. Although I do decently in HTML and CSS and a teeny bit of JS, I know nearly nothing about PHP, other than this:  <?php include("header.php"); ?>

You can use that extension if you like. You need to make sure that your page that has the SSI have an extension that will process the scripts as mentioned above.
    .shtml, .php
I always name my SSI so I know that they are includes.
    header.inc.html
    header.inc.php
    header.inc.txt as examples.
If you are using PHP, then it should process the includes.
A good simple test is to add a SSI to a page.
    Do something simple like.
    <p>Welcome to our website</p>
    Name it welcome.inc.php
Then include it in a page, upload it to the webserver and visit the page.
I am using contribute for people to update areas of our website (hate it) and I manage the overall website myself.

  • If you need help with CPS and Contribute

After over a month of contacting support, I have come to the conclusion that Adobe does not offer advance support for CPS. The only thing that the low level tech support agents are capable of doing is
    1. transferring you to someone else,
    2. Sending you links to the online manual and livedocs that you have probably already read.
After spending over a month and roughly 100+ hours I have determine that CPS cannot handle multiple client certificates sent via a Department of Defense Common Access Card. I did learn the following info that you might find useful.
    1.      Contribute must be able to write a file to the root (when you 1st connect it writes TMPjaisd8ua89ua.htm then deletes it) If this failes for any reason, contribute gives you the ever so helpful could not connect error
    2.      contribute must be able to write / delete files in root/_mm
    3.      If you want users to send drafts contribute must have access to root/MMWIP
    4.      If you are using Contribute CS3 or newer and you remove a connection from a computer, the connection isn't really removed 100%, you must go into regedit, current user, software, adobe, contribute41 and clear out keystore, trusted CPS Server, Admin Servers. Just leave the defaults. This might be different for version 5
    5.      Work with an LDAP admin to get the correct LDAP settings so CPS can view the directory
    6.      If using multi LDAP servers ensure that replication is working correctly on them all otherwise your users won't be able to access the site if connected to a faulty LDAP server. Also make sure users can get to the directory via windows if using local/Network connection
    7.      Work with Network admin to have security logging enable on the web server so anytime contribute gives an error they can check the log to see exactly what your account was trying to do at the time of the error.
    8.      Read the Manuals, in fact memorize them.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Contribute/4.1_CPS/help.html?content=con_overview_ov_3.html
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Contribute/4.1_CPS/help.html?content=con_setup_install_si_18.h tml
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/contribute/311/deploying_en/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm?hr ef=00000049.htm#134387
I hope this will shed a little light on CPS and contribute or if not then at least give you some direction on how to debug your problems since Adobe will never help you.

    Addition:
    9.      Create a folder on your desktop called "ctnetperformancelog" and then launch Contribute.  Information logged in these files can provide invaluable insight in pinpointing where problems originate.
    For example:
    135 07/05/11 12:31:53 PM mmoreno netio/LAN PutData ACCESS_DENIED 5 5 0.0017 file://webdev/Dev/ /Dev/_mm/contribute.xml
This was the result of /_mm/contribute.xml inadvertently being marked read-only due to a dreamweaver misconfiguration.
    See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/195/tn_19506.html for more details.
Don't forget to delete or rename this folder (e.g. "ctnetperformancelog-DISABLED") after debugging since the log files can grow quite large.

  • Dreamweaver 8 and keystroke issues

I recently installed Dreamweaver 8 along side of Dreamweaver
MX. After the install was complete I tried to use Dreamweaver 8 and
found that certain (letter) keys were not reconginzed when I typed
them in the design window. I then tried typing in the code window
and they would not work there either.
    Any suggestions?

    What OS?

  • How can I import a non-BC site into BC, using Dreamweaver CC, and then use it as one of my free sites?

I am trying to import one of my non-BC sites into BC, using Dreamweaver CC, and then use it as one of my free WebBasics sites.
When I try to create a new BC site in Dreamweaver CC, it creates a BC template site, and I have unsuccessfully tried to update the files on BC - it won't let me connect.
If I import the site from my portal, I don't get the option of a free site - when I try to upgrade, I get the credit card form asking for payment.
I feel like I'm running around in circles with one foot nailed to the floor.
    Any tips?

Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

  • Need details on how to move existing website to Dreamweaver CS6 and to Business Catalyst web hosting

    Hi All,
I need assistance with transferring an existing website  - imagessays.com  -  (designed with Dreamweaver CS4) to my Creative Cloud CS6 account - and to web hosting by CS6 Business Catalyst.
…  step-by-step instructions would be most useful.  I've got the Dreamweaver CS6 onDemand book, etc.,  ...  I guess I’m just not enough of a geek to work my way through the steps and to get my site back moving ahead online.
Beyond that, need advice as to how to repair a couple of non-funcitonal links on the site (check out imagessays.com to see a couple of pics that don't work).  I'm looking forward to uploading more content and to do major upgrade to the site, but am unable to do so ... need technical support re how to do these simple (should be) things.
Since setting up the website over 5 years ago, I have migrated from Dreamweaver CS3 to CS4 .... and now to CS6 ...  and from a Dell XPS 450 running Windows XP to a Mac Pro desktop running Mac OS X.
These changes of version / machine / OS  have separated me from the ability to do the one simple thing that I need to do with this straightforward website, that is:  upload new pitchers and writins .
I look forward to assistance and support for this.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,

I'd open a local copy of the site in Dreamweaver CS6 and use the steps described in the video
Also, we have Dreamweaver and Business Catalyst (host) specific forums too. They should be able to help with specifics if you get stuck.

  • Dreamweaver CC and Windows 8.1 - Can't Find A Valid Editor For This File Extension

Was running the latest version with no issues and then I loaded Office 2013 .. Now when I am in the remote site and try to double click on a .cfm file, I get a dialog box..Can't Find A Valid Editor For This File Extension..
I tried the support chat and they said Dreamweaver support was not available, try again later???
So I thought I would reinstall the CC version and now I can see the Dreamweaver icon next to the files but still ... can't open the file..
    Any assistance would be appreciated?
    Leo

The issue is only in Windows 8.x where when Dreamweaver CC is installed, it is not able to turn on the file type associations by default.  The workaround for now is to manually add the extensions both within Windows and then within Dreamweaver CC itself.
Go to Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set Your Default Programs and select Dreamweaver CC and then select 'Choose defaults for this program' and Select All or the extensions you want to open in Dreamweaver CC
Start Dreamweaver CC and go to Edit > Preferences > File Types/Editors and add '.cfm .cfc' to the extensions and then add C:\Program Files (x86)\Dreamweaver CC\Dreamweaver.exe then click on Apply and Close
    That should be it.

after adding a flashfile .swf into a dreamweaver page and trying to run it, I get an error message related to Javascript
I have no trouble viewing other websites with (most likely), flashfiles.
Here is the the PopUp message:
"Adobe-warning Adobe Flash PLayer has stopped a potentrially unsafe operation......"

In newer versions of Flash Pro, you can export to HTML5 Canvas, that's probably what they're talking about: Flash Professional Help | Creating and publishing an HTML5 Canvas document
.FLV and .SWF are Flash formats that won't show up on iOS (or an ever increasing number of other mobile devices). Mobile Flash was killed by Adobe a couple years ago, so the number of mobile devices that can see it is dwindling rapidly, don't use those formats if you want your viewers on mobile devices to see your content.
