Dreamweaver MX in Windows 7

Hello,
I am in the process of upgrading to Windows 7.   My Dreamweaver MX studio software installed OK, but the Dreamweaver application will not start.   It comes up with the splash screen and just sits there.   All the other components of the Studio ( Freehand , Flash etc all work OK.     I found something on here about the WinFileCachexxx.dat file, but I cannot find that on my PC, even in the hidden folders.
If anyone has come across this problem, or knows of the fix, I would be very grateful.
Thanks
Andrew

My original post is perhaps misleading.  When I said I had upgraded to
Windows 7, I did in fact mean I had upgraded the entire machine  -  ie a clean install on a seperate partition.

  • I can't install Dreamweaver 8 on Windows 7

Just like my title, I can't install Dreamweaver 8 on Windows 7 Release Candidate.
I can start the installation, but it just stuck at "installing" for very long time, and the installation just can not Continue...
I already try to running it in XP compatibility mode( Windows XP SP2), and the answer is the same: can't install.
    Can anyone advise, please?

I'm afraid you may be out of luck.  DW 8 is 3 versions old and was not tested to work on the new operating system.
There have been reports that some people are unable to run CS4 or are having problems with CS4 on Windows 7, so I doubt very much that DW8 would work.  Sorry.

  • How do I enable syntax highlighting for jspf files on Dreamweaver CS6 on Windows?

I followed the instructions (which I modified for CS6) in this posting: http://blog.metameister.com/blog/2011/04/08/open-new-file-types-and-add-syntax-highlightin g-in-dreamweaver-cs5-on-window…
but it did not work for CS6.
How do I enable syntax highlighting for jspf files on Dreamweaver CS6 on Windows 7?
    cheers
    Marvin in Edmonton

Ok, I figured it out after hunting for a few hours.
Step 1. Add the File Type
    In Dreamweaver’s toolbar:
    Select Edit > Preferences;
under File Types / Editors, add .jspf to the line “Open in Code View:”.
    Step 2. Extensions.txt
Add file type .jspf to the Extensions.txt files. There are two of these files:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\configuration
    Step 3. MMDocumentTypes.xml
Add jspf to the MMDocumentTypes.xml files. Open this file in Notepad or Text Editor. Do not modify the Dreamweaver configuration files within Dreamweaver.
There are three MMDocumentTypes.xml files to be modified:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\configuration\DocumentTypes
    C:\Users\mhaagsma\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration
    C:\Users\mhaagsma\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration\DocumentTypes\
    Step 4. Restart Dreamweaver
Hopefully the file type will now be recognized and appear with syntax highlighting.

CS5 for Windows can only be installed on Windows operating system.
You would need to purchase CS5 for Mac OS.
Given that CS5 is now 4 versions back, it's unlikely you'll find a copy.
You could get DW CC from the Creative Cloud which supports both Win/Mac platforms.

  • When will you actually updated Dreamweaver CS6 for Windows 8?

Dreamweaver CS6 in Windows 8 becomes corrupt overtime. Last month I tried to update a PHP file and it crashed. After a few attempts, the program would not reopen. I went through tech support and they removed the .dat files. as suggested (as they could be corrput) and it did not work. I had to reinstall the program. Now the Find and Replace feature does not work and is currently crashing the program. Also, your current online documentation support is all under Vista and older window platdforms, nothing that mentions Windows 8. So as an FYI, They are not the same operating system. As the some of the locations of files within your documentation  etc. are inaccurate. So as far as I can see, your online support and program is not current for Window 8 users.

Thanks. I don't have any of the operating systems mentioned below though. Whys is Windows 8 not mentioned? Should I follow the instructions for Windows 7?

  • Can't install Dreamweaver CS4 on WIndows 7.  Setup error

I can't install Dreamweaver CS4 on WIndows 7.  I get a vague error that says Setup error, sontact Adobe Customer Support. Adobe Customer Support refuses to help me.  That really upsets me.

First of all I would like to thank the people that responded to my post.  I am extreemly impressed with your eagerness to help and your concern for my problem.  Thank you very much! I appreciate it.
I did not see a way to get a transcript of my chat.  I should have printed it at the conclusion of my chat. Overall though, I think my concerns are with Windows itself and also how Adobe as a company handles a call from someone who gets an installation error that says "call Adobe Customer Support". I purchased this program to run on Windows 7 and I am installing it on a Windows 7 computer. I feel that if Adobe is going to give a vague error message and tell you to contact them, they should give me more assistance than "your product is too old, good luck on the forums". I could see if I am calling and asking them how to do something, maybe my product is too old for that, but I think their responce was unacceptable.  I hope enough other people complain so that Adobe changes this policy.
Wow, this has taken an enormous amount of time to deal with. I imagine this is mainly a Windows file permissions issue, but I think Adobe needs to take some ownership for a client having to spend many HOURS trying to install their program on the original OS they purchased the program for.
I definitely do not like the way the Adobe Dreamweaver installer deals with errors. Here are the facts as I know them.
When the installer would fail on install, the subsequesnt install would fail, but it would give a VERY cryptic error stating that the install failed and I need to contact Adobe customer service.
In order to re-install I had to un-install.  Naturally my un-installs failed every time, too. After lots of trial and error and checking the forumns, I found   the program install folders under c:\programs. I deleted them, re-booted, unistalled again with no errors.  Then I could re-install without the vague "contact Adobe customer support" error.  Note that I had to re-install several times to get to the bottom of the installation problem so this took a long time to figure out.
In the end, I had to manually delete files from C:\Windows\Installer in order to get Dreamweaver to install.  This took a long time to figure out, too.  It still installed with errors, but it said Dreamweaver would work with limited functionality. So far this is good enough for me and I am tired of spending non-billable time on this.
Following is one of the main erros I got during the first failed install.  IF ANYONE KNOWS EXACTLY WHY MY INSTALL WAS FAILING I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.  IT SEEMS LIKE IT DID NOT HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE OPERATING SYSTEM TO ACCESS THOSE FILES, BUT THAT SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE AS THE PROGRAM IS INSTALLED AS ADMINISTRATOR. Any thoughts???
    Thanks again everyone who helped!

Not for me!  It's Setup.zip and it opens as a zip archive via Explorer.  Specifically:

    Hello,
what concerns your wish about an uinstaller, so you should use
https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs3-product-downloads.html >>> AND note this "Read before you download a CS3 product". And esp, "You need your CS3 serial number to complete the installation" but this shouldn't be a problem for you, because you had an official version and so you can use all these informations like https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html

Having trouble running Dreamweaver on new Windows 8 laptop.  No trouble running it on Windows 7.

    Thanks for your reply.
When I tried downloading Dreamweaver CS6 onto my laptop, it took over 2 hrs to download, then it compressed it into a Zip file which I was never able to open.
Not sure why I am having so much trouble. We’ve had no issue loading onto our Windows 7 lab, however, we are not successful using the download on my work laptop.
We are going to try again, however, it this doesn’t work, perhaps I should try the trial download – and take it from there?
    Thank you in advance.

"If Dreamweaver is acting erratically, or if you see a message saying "the following JavaScript error(s) occurred",  it's usually a sign of a corrupt cache file. The first thing to try should always be to delete the file cache. If that doesn't work, delete your personal Configuration folder. Full instructions are in Deleting a corrupted cache file.

  • I am trying to install Dreamweaver CS3 on Windows 8 it says "The Installer Database is corrupt"

I am trying to install Dreamweaver CS3 on my new Windows 8 PC and when I run SETUP.EXE it says "The Installer Database is corrupt" on both my original CD and backup I made.

    The error is here:
Dreamweaver CS3 on my new Windows 8 PC
This will most likely never work. CS3 wasn't even fit for Win 7. Delete the caps.db in the respective caps folder (info here) and then take the usual steps of running as admin, turning off UAC and security tools and possibly using compatibility modes, but as I said, be prepared that this may be futile and you spend a Sunday afternoon without achieving anything...

  • Error Installing Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows 7: Installer Database is Corrupt

Error Message: The Installer Database is Corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer Service.
I bought a new laptop and would like to install Dreamweaver CS4 on it. It is already running fine on my desktop, being installed back in 1/2011. Both PCs are Windows 7 but the new laptop is Windows 7 Professional.  I have downloaded the two install files ADBEDRWVCS4_LS1.7z and ADBEDRWVCS4_LS1.exe multiple ways and to multiple locatons on the laptop. I've run the .exe file multiple ways and extracted to several locations besides the default (c:\users\userid\Desktop\Adobe CS4). After the extract completes and it tries to run setup I get the same message "The Installer Database is corrupt. Please Contact Adobe Customer Service" (which I did and they just gave me another download link I had already tried).
I even copied the folder with the extracted files done on my desktop (where the install had succeeded). And still got the same message when I ran setup.exe on the laptop. I tried running it with a "run as administrator" command prompt, double-clicking in Windows Explorer, start > run and the same thing happens. At least it doesn't appear that it has actually installed anything yet.
I did notice that my new PC has a program called "7-zip 9.20" installed which I do not remember installing and its install date is prior to my purchase of the PC so I'm guessing it came with it (HP Pavilion 15t running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit). The Windows 7 Desktop does not have this program installed. It is available from C|net where it has a good rating. Perhaps setup.exe does further extracting and the 7-zip program is the culprit? This is a long shot.
I searched for others with this problem and found lots of issues installing Dw CS4, but none quite like this.

Awesome! That worked! Actually I searched three folders (Program Files, Program Files (x86) & Program Data) for caps.db and found:
    c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premier Elements\caps.db (dated 9/2/2011)
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Backup\caps.db
I ignored the first one since it might be needed by the Premier Elements 10 I installed yesterday and changed the name of the other one from caps.db to barb.fix.
I changed the install folder from c:\Program Files\Adobe to c:\Program Files (x86) just in case CS4 is a 32-bit application which I had done before when installing on my Windows7 Desktop. Now that the install has completed I see that I have caps.db files dated 5/5/2014 in
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\caps\caps.db
c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\backup\caps.db (barb.fix is still there but is only 26kb vs 3291 kb for the new caps.db)
Thank-you so much! Now wish me luck when I try to open it for the first time!

  • Is Dreamweaver compatible with Windows Vista?

No matter what I do I can't insert text into Dreamweaver. I'm
beginning to think Dreamweaver is not compatible with Windows
Vista. I can type text into it but I can't write a document in
another program then insert it into a DW page. It just won't do
anything at all. I've watched about 4 videos on this and read many
things on Dreamweaver help and can't find it. I think it might be
easier to learn html than Dreamweaver. I can't find any good
Dreamweaver tutorials, even in Lynda.com. They all teach as if you
already know most of the program.

Where are you copying the text FROM? Which app?

  • Dreamweaver 8 under Windows 7 Home Premium

    Hi there.
I've been using Dreamweaver 8 under XP very happily for several years but have recently upgraded to a new machine running Windows 7 Home Premium.  Dreamweaver 8.0 installs OK but when I try to run the patch to upgrade to 8.0.2, I get an error message to the effect that the wizard was interrupted and failed to install.  The main issue with this is that the web site management set up fails to save the user name and password, which is a bit of a pain.
I've read that by upgrading to Windows 7 Professional and installing the XP Emulator that this problem *MAY* be resolved, but I'm reluctant to pay the additional cost if it doesn't actually work.
Has anyone any experience of solving this problem, and how did they do it please?
    Regards
    Phil

    Phil, try this:
    - Unzip the 'unwrapped' installer to a folder that is easily reachable by the command prompt (file patchpackage.msp)
    - Open up a command prompt as an Administrator. (Right click the icon and choose run as Administrator)
    - Navigate to where the patchpackage.msp is located and type in the following and press enter:
    msiexec /update patchpackage.msp
The patch, after a short delay, will begin to install. During the install you may be asked for the CD because it will look for the Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.msi file although I didn't get that as the copy of DW8 was a download purchase rather than disk.
Once the install is complete 8.0.2 will be installed.
