"Dreamweaver not responding"

I just bought and installed Dreamweaver CS4 on my PC.  It successfully installed, to my knowledge.  When I went to start the program Microsoft Windows notified me "dreamweaver is not responding" and won't open; the circle "hourglass" continues to be there in limbo.  Anyone else ever have this occur and anyone know what the problem may be?

I was actually very hopeful when I noticed that some specific to Acer bloatware was mentioned...
My situation however is apparently unique. I performed a factory reset over the weekend, removed all pre-installed Acer bloatware and windows components that I have no use for. After which I spent hours applying windows updates. Once that was done I re-installed CS5 Web Premium and Acrobat 9. With so much data being moved, I ran a full defrag being using any of the newly installed apps (since I am trying to improve DW's response times)
Does anyone have any idea why I am still encountering the issue even though eDataSecurity was completely uninstalled prior to throwing CS5 back on the machine??
Since this is an old thread, I'll recap the behavior...
I am modifying my application in code view (design view is useless since I use a server-side mvc framework). More often than not, changing anything within the file contents results in DW hanging up (eg: title bar reads "not responding") for 5-10 seconds before it will let me continue typing. Furthermore, it's not a processing lag since the text I was typing during this problem, did not "fly in" after DW started responding again.
I am at a loss, I was a notepad coder before using dreamweaver. After using it for well over a year, I have become dependent on the organization, features and interface. I am losing more time trying to fix DW than it would take to revert back to using notepad again. Any ideas? Please help

Since it appears to be affecting multiple machines, I would check your code for errors here: http://validator.w3.org and repair anything that comes up. DW doesn't like code errors.
If your code is clean, something to check is the use of protocol relative links, usually for things like web fonts or scripts. Check your code for links that start with // and change them to the normal http version. If you don't have any https pages on your site, you can change those protocol relative links to http versions permanently.
If you have clean code and don't have protocol relative links, there could be a problem with an external script (like google analytics). Go through and comment out any external script with an html comment...
<!-- your script here -->
If it speeds DW back to normal, un-comment the scripts one by one until it goes sideways again. You can then pull that script from the remote server and make a copy of it locally. Link to the local version and usually the problems disappear.

• Need help w/ CS4 Mac Dreamweaver (not responding) on start-up

Just tried deleting every Adobe piece of software on my hardrive, then, doing a total re-install for the third time in last 2 days  --   and all my programs work except Dreamweaver.
It just hangs and the force quit option says (not responding). I've looked at many ideas from these support groups but nothing is working.  What I'm interested in, is why just Dreamweaver is crashed, and nothing else (seems odd) why would that be?  I'm using a Mac Mini with OSX 10.5.8, plenty of memory space open.  This latest crash happened yesterday and I hadn't used the program for about 1 month, but it was working then.  To add to my misery and my increasing lack of faith in Adobe (its products and support process) this same thing happened just 3 months ago, and I had to wipe out my harddrive and reload software for days.
I'd like to understand the reason for this instability.  As I have told tech support, there is no reason I would buy future products if the products don't work, and if they are not supported  --  other than some random tip on this forum that may take months to come about.  There is the possibility I can pay $40 to wait on the phone all day and have someone walk me through the entire process from start to finish, which would take hours and hours so,    If someone has ideas, great   --
If the soultion is to upgrade, I'll buy GIMP.
I need someone to also not give me ideas for PC's and Windows  ....  is there anyone home today?

Tuff day at the salt mine re-loading a few times and getting rid of many old Adobe files.  It's funny, that after using the Adobe un-install process and the Clan Tool, I had still had over 8000+ Adobe-associated embedded files and logs to remove ---  and that still didn't matter, because even with my best effort to reinstall, Dreamweaver was still not responding  ...   so like many frustrated thread users, I tried the idea you suggested about creating a new account.
Before doing that, I looked over some other Adobe and Apple threads on this subject and sharing seems to be potentailly related to this bug-issue.  After creating a new account, I then logging out of my admin account and logged into the new account, I was finally able to see Dreamweaver fire up  --  why I don't know.  It wasn't that I didn't trust you or not believe you on that suggestion, it just seemed odd that of the entire CS4 suite, only Dreamweaver would need an enire new account created for it to be able to run.  This is like having Microsoft Office and needed to create new accounts for Word, and new accounts for Excel  ..  doesn't make sense!
Furthermore, after having DW fire up in the new account, I felt these odd twitches, and thought about how fun this will be to jump back and fourth between 2 accounts to locate assets and modify content and end up using a thumbdrive to grab the data off my other account, then shuttle it around in the new place, after logging out, then back in and so on and so on  --  this is like adding new rooms to my house, so I'm trying to get excited about this new way of using Dreamweaver.  I'm currently not ready to start a project and wondering if I should go back to where I was three months ago and wipe everything out again, then maybe have a beer?  The good news seems to be that if I get back to this point, everything willl be good (snark).
Thanks for your suggestion and time, I at least have the ability to modify a project (I think)!  It was also good to see that I'm not alone out there and that CS5 is not worth buying.... as tons of people are having lots of buggy issues like this, hence why bother upgrading  ... (sorry if that started to appear to be an Adobe rant).  I guess Apple's latest OS is also having problems, so what say, let's just stop pushing garbage out the door before it works  -- I realize the shareholders are important in this age of High Frequency Day Trading, but maybe the customers need real products that have value, versus the illusion of upgrades that crash and upgrades that rely on customer feedback to get things right  ...  pathetic!

Well Adobe would love for you to update to CC.
But have you tried running the installer in 32-bit mode? Will the application run in 32-bit mode? I use a Mac, so I don't know, but I thought that Win 7 was supposed to have some backwards-compatibility deal where you could run legacy stuff.

• Dreamweaver 8 not responding on cfm page

I have an existing .cfm page that I'm adding
<cfqueryparam> tags to several queries. Once I add the new
code if I try to highlight it in code view Dreamweaver quits
responding and peggs my processor and also uses around a gig of
physical ram. This continues until I end the Dreamweaver task using
Task Manager. The code is valid and works correctly through a web
browser but hangs as soon as I try to select any text in
dreamweaver. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this type of
issue and if so is there a way to stop it? Thanks in
advance.

• Dreamweaver CS6 "Not Responding" with TypeKit on Windows 8

My Dreamweaver CS6 (Cloud Install) on Windows 8 freezes up when i type code in "code view" to "Not Responding". It seems that it is the two lines from TypeKit that cause the problem (<script type="text/javascript" src="//use.typekit.net/xxx.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript">try{Typekit.load();}catch(e){}</script>). When I remove them it works fine. I run this against WAMP localhost install. Every time I write a DIV or another closed tag, Dreamweaver goes into "Not Responding" for 10-20 seconds. I have tried to turn of View > Live View Options > Disable Javascript but it doesn't work. I also tried to uninstall Dreamweaver and a reinstall but the same problem. Anyone knows any solutions? Thanks.

My guess is DW is trying to connect to external scripts on TypeKit's server.  TypeKit is probably looking for a web browser, but since DW isn't a browser, it's hanging up.   Go to View > untick Display External Files.

• Dreamweaver CS6 not responding (freezing)

I am running Windows Vista and performed the most recent update of Dreamweaver CS6 (I am using Creative Cloud) and my Dreamweaver program continues to not respond if I need to go out to another program and then back into Dreamweaver. It was not responding before the update, as well. I am using a Typekit script on all of my pages and this freezing/not responding thing just started happening, though it had worked just a few weeks ago. I have done the following:
disabled Javascript
disabled all extensions
turned off "Display External Files"
Currently defragmenting my computer
Performed a disk cleanup
My site is not linked to any outside site. This issue is making my development double in the amount of time and I really need this fixed. Any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks, Amber

and was told that my operating system, Windows Vista cannot run the new Creative Cloud CS6 products
That's complete rubbish.  I'm using Vista with Creative Cloud and have no problems.  Vista is essentially Win7.
There are a couple of 64 bit products I can't use on my 32 bit operating system but the rest work fine.
I suggest you delete your cache and/or personal configuration folder.

• DreamWeaver cc running slow and not responding on Win 7

Hi Guys,
As of late my DreamWeaver has started not responding (eventually recovers) and is very slow to do anything. It has run fine in the past. The file I am running works fine on other PCs running the same edition of DW.
Have tried reinstalling DW and changing the antivirus permissions. Kind of stuck with what else to do.

• Dreamweaver CS3 "Not Responding" every 15 seconds or so

As with this post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3649355#3649355
I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 on Windows Vista, though on searching Google the problem seems to be occuring occasionally on CS4 and CS5 too. Working in code, all activity stops and (Not Responding) appears in the title bar. Nothing can be done for about 10 seconds, when suddenly everything works again. I've tried closing Dreamweaver and deleting the WinFileCache-AD76BB20.dat file and restarting. All works fine for a few minutes then the problem returns.
I'm currently adding twitter/facebook/google plus buttons to my pages, each of these requires its own script.
Can anyone suggest any possible solutions to this problem?

Any chance of anyone having a guess at what I might explore to resolve this issue? At the moment Dreamweaver operates similar to junk - i.e. useless to the nth degree.
ever hopeful,

• Linux issue: "server not responding" msgs starting to appear in DreamWeaver MX

I have an Ubuntu Server on my small network that acts (among
other things) as a Web page testing server. I have DreamWeaver set
up to connect to our remote host for putting operations, and the
testing server is our local Linux machine. It worked great, as
testing a page was instantaneous over the LAN.
Then something (I have no idea what, and I'm pretty much a
Linux Noob) changed and now, when we test on server or try the
“test” button on the site configuration menu, we get
ten to fifteen seconds of “Server Not Responding / connecting
to server,” then it connects fine.
The server pings fine and I can connect via an OS (both Mac
and PC) fine. It’s just that we went from instantaneous
connection to an irritating delay. Any idea where I start
diagnosing/fixing this?
Here is a bit of background on the machine. I’m sorry
I’m not sure what’s relevant — if I forgot
something, please let me know, and ignore anything that’s
superfluous.
It recently upgraded to 2.6.24-21. The upgrade went fine, but
I had to reinstall the LAN drivers. The Linbox is assigned an IP
via the router’s (Linksys 310N) DHCP Reservation Table, based
on the Linbox’s MAC address. I don’t believe I’ve
set a static IP on the box (/etc/network/interfaces is generic and
unmodified). I’m using ProFTPD and WebMin, but mostly with
default settings.
Thanks,
Rhythm

Problem solved:
For the use of anyone who someday finds this thread, here is
how things worked out:
I went to the ProFTPD Server module of
WebMin, then to Networking
Options. I changed two entries:
Do reverse DNS lookups of client addresses? (From default to
no)
Lookup remote Ident username? (from default to no)
I then restarted ProFTPD and voila, it worked like it did
before!

• Dreamweaver cs4 not responding

Hi,
I have just installed CS4 on my work computer which has a Windows OS.
I am finding that when I open files in Dreamwever  from the local site, i get a "not responding" message from the task manager and the files take 1-2 mins to open.
Even moving between open *.xhtml files takes 1-2 mins!
I have followed advice on some adobe support pages and upped the page file size, performed a disk cleanup, recreated the Configuration folder in my profile version of Dreamweaver CS4, installed all the latest updates - with no luck
The local version of the site is quite large with over 350 files.
In the Dreamweaver site conifig have also attempted turning of the site cache and removing the remote server setup. (also turned off the check in/out feature)
This did not help either.
The local version of this site is on a network server which is accessed via a mapped drive on my pc - this requires a username and password when i first connect to it, but after the initial connection it does not prompt me again.
I have another local site with files stored on my C: drive which i have no problem opening whatsoever.
Can anyone pleeeeeease help!
This is preventing me from working in Dreamweaver at all....
The next alternative for me is to copy the local site files to my pc for working on - which is really not a good idea as it is not backed up.
any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks Jon very much for your suggestion.
I work on a Macintosh iMac with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running on 2GB 667 MHz memory. I am running no extensions on Dreamweaver.!
I usually pull down any files from my clients' servers then work on the files locally. Once I am happy that the files have been altered appropriately I then send them back up to the server.
Up till now the files have worked relatively well although they can take a little while to load. I notice that if I view the files in code only there is no problem but since I am fundamentally a designer I like to see what it is I am doing and tend to avoid working with the files in code.
I have done exactly what you have suggested although I have done that before thinking it would 'clear out' the system. Sadly, despite my meticulous attention to removing all the files associated with Dreamweaver the problem still persists.
There are some points to note in all this. While trying to pin down the problem I have noticed that it is the larger file sizes that jam Dreamweaver BUT it is a relative problem. Big files on one of the clients sites are small files on other client sites - one minute it will not open a 50k file for one client the next it will be a 372k file on another site that stalls!
It is interesting just how many people there are out there having the same issues that I appear to be having.
Thanks for all your help
If I come up with a solution I'll let you know.

• Dreamweaver cs 5.5 not responding when saving file!!!

Dear Comunnity,
Kindly help if anyone knows
Reinstalled recently Adobe Dreamweaver CS 5.5 and started having problem.
When  i'm working with Dreamweaver and saving file, *.html, *.php, *.css and  etc. It just stop responding and i can't do anything, task manager not  helping, can't turn off pc, it just shows "shutting down" and ... none,  only power button helps me.
It deletes file that i'm tring to save  and creates *******.tmp file with code which were inside. And problem  that it's happening randomly, once i start and it's not responding in 2  saves, next time it just not responding after whole day of work.
Never had anything like that before.

• Why does Dreamweaver CC (& 2014) keep crashing (not responding)

Since I've gone with CC and now upgraded to 2014 it constantly crashes - like every 10 seconds.
It says it's not responding.. but then you wait about 30 seconds and it then resumes - workflow is a nightmare.
It tends to be in code view making simple edits to code, saving, or even just placing a cursor in a different point.
I tried changing preferences, nothing works.
Please help.

Hi bjunior,
You need to add these entries in registry.
1. Go to run, type regedit and enter. This will open Registry Editor.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting->Right Click->New->Key. New key named "New Key #1" will be created. Rename it to LocalDumps.
3. Add two entries LocalDumps
3.1. Right click on LocalDumps->New->Expandable String Value (REZ_EXPAND_SZ). Double click on the  entry created and add value name : DumpFolder and
         value data : %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps.
3.2 Right click on LocalDumps->New->DWORD (32 bit) Value(REG_DWORD). Double click on the value created and add value name : DumpType and value data :1
Next time when the application crashes you will find the crash dump at C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Local\CrashDumps. Dumps will be created only in case of crash and not hang.
Thanks!

If Dreamweaver is behaving in an odd way, it frequently means you have a corrupt personal configuration folder. Close Dreamweaver, locate the personal configuration folder, and rename it. When you restart Dreamweaver, it should create a new configuration folder with all the program defaults. For details of how to find the configuration folder, see this page in the Dreamweaver FAQ.

• How do I close multiple documents opened in Finder when the files are loading and the Application is not responding?

I was moving 90 files from one folder to another and instead accidently double clicked all the files I had selected and they all opened at once and now they are all stuck trying to load and the program is not responding.
When I put my mouse over the folders, it's just the loading cursor so i can't select anything. I've tried using 'command' - 'option' - 'W' and that doesn't work either.
I have tried restarting finder and all that does is shut all of the folders and reopens them and they get stuck trying to load all over again.
I have tried restarting my macbook and every time I log back in, it restarts all the programs and all the finder windows and the whole process repeats.
(even when I unselect the 'restart opened programs' box.)
I really hope someone knows how to troubleshoot this problem I am having!
