Dreamweaver & Photoshop start in background

Yep, they just start in the background in the task manager.  The only solution I have found to work is to start the program (Photoshop or Dreamweaver) several times then once it pops up, kill the rest in task manager.  For Dreamweaver, I can kill just one of the extra processes and it will close the rest for me.  PS doesn't do this.  I have to stop each extra occurence of Photoshop.  This is a big waste of time for me.
I have CS3 - Dreamweaver and Photoshop seem to be the only ones having this problem since I reinstalled CS3.
Thanks a bunch,
Michael

Have you tried the DW and PS forums? You might get a bit more help that way.
FWIW, I never saw that type of behavior with CS3 on Vista 64.

  • Photoshop Starter Edition 3.0 - Photo Downloader causes computer to restart

    I upgraded my computer running Windows XP from Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition 2.0 to 3.0. This put an icon, the Photo Downloader, on my task bar. When I turned my lap-top on it would load the desk top with no problems, but when loading the icons on the task bar it would get to the camera icon, there would be a long pause and my computer would shut down and restart. This happened intermittantly at first, than all the time. I uninstalled PhotoShop 2.0 and all its upgrades and 3.0. The problem resolved. I reinstalled PhotoShop 3.0 and the problem seems to have come back. Today as the camera icon loaded my computer shut down and restarted. The error reported is: Stop error caused by a device driver. I don't use the Photo Downloader. Can I remove it from my start up?

    Is that where Colin Walls says to to to C:\Program Files\Adobe Starter Edition\3.0\Apps and rename the file "apdproxy.exe" to "apdproxy-same.exe"? This was suggested to make the icon go away in the taskbar. I have clicked on Disable for the icon, and "fingers crosssed" my computer hasn't restarted recently. You're right, my error message was that there was a driver problem, but I reloaded Photoshop twice and it didn't help. As soon as that icon loads (before I diabled it) the computer restarts. Do you know if "Disable-ing" the icon causes is to not start-up when I boot the computer? And that it is not running in the background? Thanks. Dayle Marsh

  • Is there a way to open Adobe Camera Raw without Photoshop starting?

    Is there a way to start up Adobe Camera Raw without Photoshop starting?  I think in the past it started without Photoshop starting; or did it?

    If you select the image in Adobe Bridge you can choose File > Open in Camera Raw. Adobe Camera Raw will open the image using Bridge as the host application and you won't have to start Photoshop. There's no way to open Camera Raw without a host application.
    If you can't find Adobe Bridge on your computer and you are a Creative Cloud subscriber, Bridge is one of the programs you can install using the Creative Cloud application.

    You can install PSE on the XP machine.Convert the catalog on of starter edition to PSE.Take the backup of the catalog on XP machine and then restore it on the windows 7 machine. This way you will have all the data of the catalog on your XP machine.

  • Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition 3

    I keep getting asked to register my Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition 3. I did this years ago. I tried an old unlock code but this doesn't work. Can you help me as I cannot access photos etc.

    Jim,
    Many thanks. But, yes, I have done all that several times. Worse still when I load the Photoshop to my laptop all works just fine. Yet both are on up to date XP. I have a Dell p.c. and a Toshiba laptop. Maybe all this is hardware related? Or else I have some Windows corruption on my p.c. But I don't think so as other people are reporting the same problem as I have.
    Do you know if there is a way I can ask Adobe directly?
    Regards

  • Photoshop Starter Edition 3.0

    Hello, I've just joined the Forums. I have Photoshop Starter Edition 3.0.: I am using Windows XP Prof. with SP2 installed. I have a mobile phone Sony Ericsson P900. I am unable to have my phone "Recognised" by the Photoshop programme. I can get photos from my Digital Camera, but cannot get them from the phone. The only options from the drop down window, in Photoshop are:- Creative Web Cam / hp psc 1310 series TWAIN / <Refresh List> / Select a Device.<br />Any advice will be gratefully received!<br />Thanks,Colin

    Colin,
    I`ve just been looking at an advert for the Sony Ericsson P900. That`s quite a phone, and I can understand why you would like to transfer pics straight from it to PA3 without going round the houses.
    If you still havn`t managed to crack this, there may be another novel way of getting pics straight from your phone. Well kinda straight from your phone.
    I`ve got an old Motorola camera phone without any kind of lead to connect it to a PC, and while out searching the shops for a solution, I discovered that you can get from the likes of PC World, a small blue tooth "dongle", costing about £15, that plugs into a USB socket, and transfers the pics on your phone to your PC via bluetooth. I`m fairly confident a phone like yours will have Bluetooth.
    I didn`t actually bother, as the camera in my old phone isn`t very good.
    The only thing to find out of course, is will PA3 recognize the hardware plugged into the USB. Its possible, because these gadgets are made for transfering pics.
    Chances are you already know about this technology, but if you don`t, it may be worth investigating. Besides, it`s great fun trying to crack a problem, and if you are anything like me, you`ll hate to admit defeat.
    Finally, Windows should recognize the hardware, and you can find it by going to file/get photos/by searching.. Then in the "look in:" dropdown menu, select "browse" then "My Computer". Maybe you`ve already tried searching this way to find your camera phone. Anyway, good luck.
    Regards
    Dennis

  • Photoshop Starter Edition 3.2 Restoring photos after they have been deleted from the catalog

    I am using Photoshop Starter Edition 3.2.  Does anyone know a way to restore photos after they have been accidentally deleted from the catalog?

    Hi,
    Unfortunately, this forum is not about Photoshop Starter Edition.  I recommend you take your question to the Starter Edition forum at:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/ps_album_starter.  Someone there may be able to help.

  • PhotoShop Starter Ed 3.2

    I am trying to remove Photoshop Starter Edition 3.2, and just use Elements.  I have tried to remove it in Add/remove Programs.  It tells me This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.  I then registered the eddition that I have, got the unlock code from adobe, and entered it.  I still cannot delete it.
    I don’t\’t mind keeping it, it just asks every time that I open a photo to accept the licence agreement.  This is getting some what old.  How can I remove it, or disable the program?  Thank you inadvance,
    JT

    Hey,
    You cannot recover from deleted files. In case they are anywhere in your hard disk, you can easily recover them, but as what you see is just the thumbnail, it wont be of any help, trying recovering them from the catalog, which in any case is not in a readable format.

  • Can Photoshop Starter Editor 3.0 run as a server application

    Can Photoshop Starter Editor 3.0 run as a server application and be accessed by more then one computer simultaniously? If this is in breach of the license agreement, where can I find more information on this ?
    If this program cant perform as a server app. is Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 able to operate as a server app. ?

    Okay Tom...
    Now these may be things that people have already discussed in the forum, so
    you'll have to pardon me if you already know this.
    You CAN use the database on the server and put the application on the client
    computer. PSE prevents multiple accesses to the same database so that will
    avoid any conflict issues, however you would still need to contact Adobe
    about licencing. Further with PSE 4.0 out now... you are looking at another
    application.
    I'll see what Picassa can do, but I would NOT hold my breath... and while it
    is a handy little app, for me it is FAR too limited for anything more than a
    quick search and some very basic tools.
    I'll see what I can do in the next 20 minutes or so and get back to you.
    Cheers

  • Photoshop Starter Album 3.2

    I have years of photos stored in Photoshop Starter Album 3.2.  I'm told they cannot be migrated into Adobe Revel.   How can I save them in an Adobe-supported site so I don't lose them when I have a different computer?

    Media from Photoshop Starter album 3.2 can't be directly migrated to Revel. You need to do this manually. That is open Revel client app on Mac (or use Revel web client https://www.adoberevel.com/) and import all media (from your hard drive).
    Please let me know if you need more info on it.

  • [SOLVED] How to get NetworkManager start on background during boot?

    NetworkManager has always taken relatively long time to start during boot, presumably waiting for wlan to connect.
    $ systemd-analyze blame
    7.682s NetworkManager.service
    Previously I was able to get it to start on background by removing /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/NetworkManager.service
    This prevented multi-user.target from waiting for NM to start and it would continue to connect on background while my boot finishes.
    However, after upgrade to networkmanager-0.9.10.0-2 that doesn't seem work any more.
    If I remove the .service file from multi-user.target.wants/, NetworkManager doesn't start during boot at all.
    enabling NetworkManager.service creates these symlinks:
    # systemctl enable NetworkManager
    Created symlink from /etc/systemd/system/dbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service.
    Created symlink from /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/NetworkManager.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service.
    Created symlink from /etc/systemd/system/dbus-org.freedesktop.nm-dispatcher.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager-dispatcher.service.
    looks like enabling any other basic systemd unit links the .service file to multi-user.target.wants/ as well..
    How can I enable NetworkManager.service during boot without multi-user.target.wants/, and get it to start on background again?
    any ideas appreciated :)

    Okay, looks like this can be resolved by simply changing the NetworkManager.service type from dbus to forking.
    $ systemd-analyze blame
    173ms NetworkManager.service
    Here's the modified service file if anyone's interested:
    place it in /etc/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service
    [Unit]
    Description=Network Manager
    Wants=network.target
    Before=network.target
    [Service]
    Type=forking
    PIDFile=/var/run/NetworkManager.pid
    BusName=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/NetworkManager --pid-file=/var/run/NetworkManager.pid
    # NM doesn't want systemd to kill its children for it
    KillMode=process
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    Alias=dbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.service
    Also=NetworkManager-dispatcher.service
    You need to disable NetworkManager.service before creating the file and enable it after so that systemd links the file from /etc/systemd instead of /usr/lib/systemd,
    there may be simpler way but I can't be bothered to go through systemd manuals any more.
    Note that this will probably break any systemd .service that actually requires network, although that was the case with my previous workaround as well.
    I won't guarantee this will work for you and won't set your machine on fire. If you have issues, simply remove the file and re-enable to go back to default

  • Dreamweaver/photoshop Q

    If you go to this link, you will see an image on the bottom left that has white corners.  I am trying to eliminate those, to be transparent, either in photoshop or DW, but cannot for the life of me, figure out how.  Cropping in squares is one thing, elipses are a whole different story.
    Thank you in advance.
    http:/wendasworld.com

    This is more of a Photoshop than DW question but I do have your answer.
    JPEG files do not carry any transparency with them, thus you will always get white produced in the background of an image even if you intended it to be transparent.  The only way around this is to use a different file type when you save from Photoshop such as GIF or PNG.  The only quirk about PNG is that IE 6 does not support transparency in PNG files.  So as long as your visitors are using IE 7 or later (or any other browser), PNGs work fine.  If you are worried about IE 6, then save your file as a GIF.  Just make sure when you change the format from JPEG to PNG or GIF that you delete the white background.  In Photoshop the transparent background will appear as an array of many boxes whereas, white is just white.
