Dreamweaver's Pathetic FTP Engine ...

HI,
I've been using DW for about 12 years now.
One of my major complaints about this software is its incompetent FTP engine; nothing seems to have changed since Adobe took over Macromedia.
On pretty much EVERY SITE SYNCH I do, even a single folder of a dozen documents, I get the error:
File activity incomplete. xx file(s) or folder(s) were not completed. This is typically a number of missed files ranging from one to a dozen or more.
I use a 3 year-old iMac; everything updated; Creative Cloud - updated.  Fastest ISP broadband available.  There ARE NO problems on my end.
I also use other 'accessory' FTP apps, which have NO PROBLEMS with "incomplete" file activity.  Funny, huh?
What part of the world "FTP" do the Adobe Engineers NOT GET?
How tough would it be to program a patch that would pick out your 5 missed files out of the TEDIOUS LIST OF 500 ENTRIES, and and give you a chance to "RETRY MISSED FILES" ...?
We pay good money for this program.  Why don't you hire good programmers?
Enough said.

I've used Dreamweaver since 2004 (DW3 on a 400mHz G3 iMac "Graphite"), and through EVERY build since then on a G4 iMac, a G4 Mini, a G5 iMac, an Intel MacBook Pro and now a late 2012 Mini with CS5.5 and CS6. With the one exception of a $%*#ing GoDaddy site, which was soon moved to a better host... I have NEVER experienced any FTP problems with over three dozen sites, four hosts, and ten builds of DW, on three different ISPs, and several Wi-fi "hotspots" I've used over the years when meeting with clients to make edits and upload them. I have no idea what the problem is, but I seriously doubt it's in DW's FTP protocols.

  • Dreamweaver CC 2014 FTP - CC 2014.1

Okay I have been hating Dreamwaever CC 2014 FTP as you could only upload a couple of files at a time or it would freeze, corrupt files and not even upload all the files and it would take forever. I have been using Dreamweaver since Macromedia 2004 and it has had it's ups and downs but I am glad Adobe seems to have fixed the problem with FTP and now with the latest update Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 the FTP seems to work perfectly for only having used it once.
Just thought I would share this as I read another discussion where someone else was expericencing the same problems with Dreamweaver CC 2014 FTP.
Thanks Adobe becuase I was blaming my ISP and the Website Hosting companies for my FTP problems as I could seem how Dreamweaver CS6 FTP worked fine but not the CC 2014 FTP.

  • Dreamweaver connects to ftp every time I upload a file.

    Hello everybody,
my problem is that dreamweaver reconnects to ftp every time I upload a file, for example:
    i connect to ftp
-i download a php file for editing and it reconnects itself to ftp
-then i upload the edited php file and it reconnects itself to ftp
it isn't good for me because my ftp server has a firewall wich blacklists my ip if i do to much ftp connections in range of 1-2 minutes... the only thing i can do is to reset my rooter because of my dynamic IP adress.
    can you solve this, please?
( sorry for my bad english )

When you download or upload a file an FTP action occurs.  There is nothing you can do with that.  How else would you expect to upload/download the file without FTP?  I would talk with your host.  Most only block too many file transfers or instances where you transfer multiple files at once at too fast a rate.  DW only uploads files one at a time, so this should not be an issue.  If it is I would find a better host that doesn't examine everytime you connect/disconnect like that.

  • Dreamweaver template update ftp files without synchronizing

Today I change Template - Update all files based on the template - synchronize entire site.
What I Like to do: change Template - Update all files based on the template
and then in the same window button with ftp upload changed files!
    Why do I want this:
The synchronization can take time on big sites, I have cms and billing system on my site with many files.
The synchronization can take time on slow connection.
When the time betwen two synchronization is to small Dreamweaver select all files (or many) for synchronization. I do not know if this is only my problem (maybe there is different time on my computer and the server?).
Do we have solution for this today?
Or can this be something to suggest for next version?
    Thanks for any suggestion

Not sure if there is anything set up in DW yet, it does give a status window of what files were updated, you could possibly work backwards form that list (still a bit cumbersome). I also believe that if you change the template and upload it to your server, it will prompt you as to whether or not you'd like to "include dependant files", and (in theory) it will also upload the files linked associated with it... but that may need to be tested to see how well it works on a larger site.
As a possible alternative, you could use "Server Side Includes" - which is a single file which contains a portion of your page (the top navigation, footer area, etc.), and any page that uses this element will automatically update when you upload just that one element. Here is a link which explains it better: http://www.smartwebby.com/web_site_design/server_side_includes.asp and there are several others on the web that offer more detailed explainations - one caveat is that the web server you use would need to be set up to accept SSI... most do, but something you'd need to look into beforehand...
    Hope that helps,
    Jesse

  • Dreamweaver to CFB (FTP and other gripes)

I 'get' the potential benefits of moving to CFB from Dreamweaver. I have watched all the videos and read the manual and I love the integration with Flex.
    BUT
It appears very little thought has been put into the FTP and synchronisation tools..
    Ideally:
I would like to set the destination FTP address for each project (at the moment although it asks me from the subdirectory, it shows me the top level root and I have to drill down each time for the destination where I want to upload)
I don't want to see nor have editing capabilities on my remote files by default.
Accidents happen and I'd rather they happened locally.
Accidentally deleting a directory remotely could be disastrous.
When the FTP client is busy, the rest of the IDE goes to sleep.  Dreamweaver sorted this out two versions ago.
There appears no way to stop the interaction with the remote server.
So until all these (pretty fundamental) issues get sorted. I ill probably use FB to play with CF9 and jump back to Dreamweaver to use their robust FTP tools.  (which just leaves me with the version control issues now that I have to put my FB source files into the wwwroot of my local server). Again a real pain !
Has anyone else found these problems - or worked out how to get around them ?
    R8_UK

R8_UK, I hear your concerns, and they're rather common. I hope I can address
(and resolve) some of them here for you.
First, I use the FTP feature all the time and it never makes the IDE
"sleep". You may want to turn on the progress view (window>show
view>other>general>progress). It will tell you what's happening as FTP
processes are running. It will also tell you other processes going on in the
editor. You may be surprised to find something else causing the "sleeps" you
    sense.
As for you saying that "it shows me the top level root and I have to drill
down each time for the destination where I want to upload", again I don't
have that problem. Are sure you didn't just make a mistake in setting up the
FTP connection? Admittedly, changing them is tough. You have to go to the
File view, and there you'll see what FTP (or FTPS or SFTP) connections
    you've made.
Or do you mean that you ARE using the File view, and it's when you open that
that it makes you drill down? Well, you don't need to do that. You can
instead connect your project to an FTP connection (either in the project
properties and its synchronization section, or by just right-clicking
anywhere in the project and choose Synchronize>Create New Synchronize
    Connection).
If you do that, then it also solves a common complaint I hear from some,
that it's complicated to do an FTP upload in CFBuilder. Well, I just right
click on the file (or on the editor workspace to upload the file I'm working
on, such as after changing and testing it locally), then choose
    Synchronize>Upload. Bang, done.
There is also a more evolved "synchronize" feature that lets you do more
(including comparing the contents of a file locally to remote, which comes
in really handy). There's an even still more evolved interface in
Window>Show View>Other>HTML Standard Views>Sync Explorer. The latter two
come closer to the kind of two-paned interface for managing local/remote
files that some expected in DW.
Of course, different people have different desires for FTP access. You have
said you do NOT want to edit the file directly on the remote server. I hope
what I share above helps you. But those who DO like editing on the remote
server (indeed, at their peril) will groan that they wish they didn't have
to do even that simple manual effort to upload: they wish that on save it
would upload. I don't know if we can ever expect that from within a local
project in Eclipse. It just goes against the grain of better development
practices, and it's one area where perhaps it's a good thing if the IDE
    pushes one to reconsider that.
Until then, though, they can indeed use the File view, which does provide
direct access to a remote server and its files. With that, you do open the
remote file in the IDE and when you save it, it's pushed immediately to the
    server.
Hope some of this helps you (and others) with your consternation with CFB
and FTP. Come on in, the water's fine. (But I'll grant that's a relative
statement. If you're still not sold, keep pointing out your concerns.)

  • Dreamweaver not remember FTP details

    Hi Guys,
I have a problem with dreamweaver at the moment. for some
reason its not remembering the user and pass in the FTP details of
each site. i looked through a couple of threads, and deleted that

i have windows vista home premium installed. i dont think
this is the problem because when i installed dreamweaver after i
installed vista, it remembered my ftp details without a problem.
the problem started happening about a week ago, and i cant think of
anything thats changed on my computer since that time.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 and FTPS

Crystaltech, my hosting service, this last weekend removed
FTP as an option to connect to their servers, instead touting the
FTPS format/protocol. Now Dreamweaver won't connect to my server
and I have to use FileZilla to download files, open in Dreamweaver,
save changes in Dreamweaver, load FileZilla, connect to server,
upload, then refresh browser for changes. This is INSANE!! What
used to take a minute for changes is now taking 5.
Here are my questions: Has anyone else encountered this, and
if so, what solution did you use or is everyone having to do this
multi-step process for file editing? Is there a 3rd-party add-in
extension which handles this issue that I should know about? Will
the developing team @ Adobe be addressing an upgrade/add-in to

  • Dreamweaver, DropBox and FTP Issues

In the past couple of days, I've run into a new issue with DreamWeaver and the only logical explanation I can come up with is the following.
I have DreamWeaver set to put the file on save. So it goes right out to my server. 99% of the time, I'll run into a "Access denied.  The file may not exist locally,  may be open in another program, or there could be a local permission problem." error.
Nothing has changed on my server that should affect this problem. I started using DropBox perhaps 2 years ago, and have kept all of my files in DropBox for easy access and security (auto backups). Never had a problem until this week.
I'm seeing this error in Dreamweaver CS6 and Dreamweaver CC on multiple machines. The only thing I can think of is the following.
    Dreamweaver Saves the file.
Dreamweaver lets go of the file for a second.
DropBox grabs the file and starts uploading it to their servers.
DropBox actually locks the file during this process (guessing here).
Dreamweaver tries to grab the file, and since it's locked by DropBox, it can't take control of it locally.
Dreamweaver kicks back the error above.
If I immediately select the file, right click and say "put" it works without issue. Every time. It simply won't put on save.  I presume I could test this by moving the files out of DropBox and seeing if it stops. Was curious if anyone has seen this issue, and if there might be a way to delay the "put on save" by 1-2 seconds, giving DropBox enough time to grab, put and let go of the file I'm working on.

    Hi WesLinda,
Have you enabled the option "Automatically upload to server on Save" in server settings Advanced tab. If not try that. You will not have to upload the files manually.
If you still get the issue. Do a test and then see what happens.
    1) Stop the Dropbox services for a while by ending the related processes from the Task Manager or disable the services from Startup item and reboot the computer.
    2) Work on files in DW and then check how much time it takes.
    3) Restore the DropBox services back.
    Thanks
