Dreamweaver Settings

I would like to change a setting in the deafult when you
create a new site in dreamweaver.
I use Dreamwevaer 8 on Mac OS X. Is there a way to change the
default on the URL prefix on the testing server? I pick ColdFusion,
and the local/Network.
I always says,"
http://Macintosh HD/" and I would like
to change it to, "
http://localhost:8500" or
something else.
Is this possible?
Thanks so much,
John

Please upgrade to DMX6.1 at your earliest possible
convenience.

  • Dreamweaver 5.5 site settings

Hi, Till some time ago I've used fire ftp for managing files online. They are nicely opening in DW with a number in front of the files name. Then I decided to configure "site's" in DW built in manager. I've configured a remote server it's not working like I hoped.
1.When I open a file form remote server, it's not editable "on line". To do it I have to save that file and then PUT it on the server which is not very productive. Any way to overcome this?
2.How to switch of the prompt "do you want to override local files" and make "yes to all" permanent.
3.Do files edited on-line have any sort of indication that they are "on-line" and not local?
4.Is there any way to export Dreamweaver settings, mostly "sites" settings?

I don't know if it help's but I am using win7 64bit, DW 5.5 newest FF (but it worked also with older versions).
You could try "open with" (from the context menu)-> add program ->insert DW path -> connect to your server -> open with ->select dreamweaver ->edit.
I don't think it has something to do with the server (I am using linux, by the way).
I found this on FireFtp site, hope it helps:
For your local files, sometimes you want to be able to open a file with a different program than the default one. Let's say I have an image file - sometimes I just want to look at it and that defaults to Firefox (what else?!) but sometimes I want to edit it and for that I need Photoshop.
So, I right click on my image file, go to Open With->Add Programs... The associated extension with the file (in this example, ".jpg") will already by listed on the top-left pane. I give my program a name in the Name textbox, in this case, Photoshop. I click "Browse" and find the Photoshop executable file (on Windows, this is usually under the "Program Files" folder somewhere). And optionally I can add Arguments, but for most users and most cases it's enough to leave that box alone. Then I hit "Apply". I'll then see in the top-right pane that my program is now associated with that extension. In a similar manner, if I want a program to be associated with all extensions and all files I can select "*.*" (which will always be there) and add programs to its list.
Now, when I right click the file again and look under "Open With", I will have Photoshop as one of the options - I can select that and the file will open up with Photoshop.
For remote files, selecting Open With will download the file and put you into Remote Edit mode. From here you can work on your file, save it, and FireFTP will automatically upload your file when it detects you've modified the file.
For Mac users: When you create a program entry for Safari, for example, you would think the path to the Application is probably: /Applications/Safari.app
and logically so, because when you browse the directory you aren't allowed to go into the Application's hidden contents. However, this is not the correct path. Right-click on an Application and do "Show Package Contents". The correct path to the Safari application is actually: /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
Not very intuitive, I realize, for you Mac users out there. Maybe in a future version there will be an easier way to access these hidden Application contents.

  • "Cannot connect to server" error when setting up MAMP local server in Dreamweaver cc 2014

I am trying to set up my Wordpress 4.1 site with MAMP 3.0.7.3 in Dreamweaver cc 2014, but I am getting a "Cannot connect to server" error when trying to view the site live. The site works fine on the localhost:8888. I am using OS X Yosemite and PHP 5.6.2. Below are screenshots of my Dreamweaver settings. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Subhadeep!
Think I'm getting closer (Lol). I did as you suggested and changed the web url to http://localhost:8888/Documents/projects/whoknew/. As you suggested I moved the local site to the Documents folder under the sub-folder projects. It is connecting to the server, but now I am getting the requested url cannot be found on the server. Below are screenshots of my current settings.

  • Template File created in DreamWeaver Looks ok. But when a new file created with this template shows disordered

I created a template file in DreamWeaver cs5. It is OK. and it looks like this, with Pink box showing the editable region. http://smsoftsolutions.com/downloads/test.jpg
Now the problem is, when I create a NEW html file from this Template, in the DESIGN view, the template contents are shown in a flowing mode. ie. Absolutely positioned DIVs are showing in a disorderly way, as shown in this screenshot. http://smsoftsolutions.com/downloads/test2.jpg
When I preview it in browser, it is showing as I expect. But only in the design mode, it is showing in a relatively positioned way.
Can anyone tell me what I should do in the dreamweaver settings, to show the layout in a WYSIWYG way?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your reply.
If I post the pages alone, the link to the images will be broken.
The css files also will be broken.
The css file should be in the folder css, images should be in the folder home_images, and template file should be in the folder templates.
The link to three files are:
    1. HTML FILE
    http://smsoftsolutions.com/downloads/t.html
    2. TEMPLATE FILE

  • Sync settings, what does each option do?

When presented with this, what does each option do?
Does 'Sync Local' push my local settings to the cloud, or sync the settings from the cloud to the local machine? Seems like this could be made more apparent... Any time I setup a new machine and get this sort of prompt on first launch I normally hit 'Sync Cloud' thinking it'll then download my settings and apply them, but that never happens - I always have to manually setup the settings again.

  • Flash SWF link opening Dreamweaver

I have created a simple Flash movie that loops three logos. I
want visitors to be able to access each respective website as the
logos cycle through, so I have linked each logo to each company's
website. However, when I play the SWF movie and click any of the

I did get a message that said that Adobe Flash Player had
stopped a potentially unsafe operation, but when I clicked the
"Settings" button to change the settings, it opened Dreamweaver
    again!
Anybody know how I can fix this?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Doug
Not sure why Dreamweaver keeps opening, but have you tested
the links after first copying the output files to a web server?
I ask because the behavior from a server is often different
    from that of running locally.
    Cheers... Rick

Upload the file and test online, it will be fine. It's
because html files are probably set by default to open in

  • Reinstalling Dreamweaver

I started getting errors when launching Dreamweaver, leading
to the application closing down. The errors (don't remember what
they were now) would pop up upon launch. So I uninstalled DW via
the install app CD, then tried to reinstall DW. It has failed
several times now. I have the Web Premium CS3 suite. I have been
receiving adobe updates. Could these updates to the suite effect
the ability of the original disk shipment of DW to reinstall
successfully? Should I uninstall the entire CS3 application suite
and then reinstall the whole thing? Any help would be
    appreciated.

Nancy gave you the best option, save the MXP's and reinstall
    them,
site settings can be exported from the edit sites panel.
Here's a hack that I've used for years to keep my various
    extension sets
    separate:
Copy the Configuration folder. This may be more or less
    successful depending
on the privileges used to install your extensions originally,
when installing them (on windows) as Administrator, files may
    be written to
    %ProgramFiles%\Macromedia\Dreameaver\Configuration, but when
    installing as a
non-admin these files will be written to
    %UserProfile%\Application
    Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver\Configuration. I prefer the
    later, because it
keeps my original Dreamweaver Configuration more-or less
    intact, however
some advanced extensions have to overwrite certain files and
    MUST be
installed as Administrator into the ProgramFiles folder.
In this way, you can setup separate user accounts each having
    a specialized
    dreamweaver configuration.

  • Dreamweaver CC can't remember not to show welcome screen

Dreamweaver CC doesn't seem to remember some settings after being relaunched. For example I can't turn off the welcome screen, it launches everytime I open the application. It also can't remember that I don't want to upload dependent files. I didn't have these issues with CS6.

  • "No connectivity with the server" error for one document but not the other, in the same document library

We have a number of users all of a sudden getting "No connectivity with the server.  The file 'xxx' can't be opened because the server couldn't be contacted." errors trying to open MS Office docs (Word, Excel, etc.) in SharePoint with IE,
just by clicking the link and selecting the "Read Only" option.  If they select the "Check Out and Edit" option, they can open the document no problem.  One of my customers gets the error on one document but not the other, in
the same document library!  The older document (a weekly report) was copied and renamed as per standard procedure.  She can read the older document, but not the new one.
It is definitely a profile issue, as other people have logged onto the machines of the users with problems and do not get the error.  We have also renamed people's c:\user profile folders and the corresponding Profilelist registry entry and the newly
created profile does not experience the error for these people.  Renaming the profile back restores all their personal settings but the error reappears.  When we copied the old profile's folder structure into the new profile, many of the user settings
were restored (but not all, like Dreamweaver settings) but the error did not appear.  We think that the system folders files (like AppData) weren't totally copied over so we're going to run another test using xcopy.  We are rebooting between
logons to make sure all files are unlocked.
The laptops and computers are mainly 32bit, Win7 Enterprise running IE9 and Office 2010 Professional Plus, but there's a few 64bit machines as well. The SharePoint farm has 1 WFE, 1 App Server running search and CA, and a shared database server running SQL
2005 SP4.  SharePoint is 64bit MOSS 2007 with the latest CU.
We've checked the logs on the client as well as on the server and there aren't any helpful entries.  We've also run Process Monitor, also with no helpful entries.  We're planning to run something like Fiddler next.
It's not everyone, because there are many people are accessing the SharePoint system and the same files.  It is also not a permission thing, as we've tested by giving the users elevated permissions with no changes.  One person experiencing
the errors is a Site Collection Admin.  That same person ran a test where I coped a simple Excel file into a Document Library which contained a problem file.  They were able to open it Read Only no problems that day, but the next day, the same
file gave them an error.   In their case, they usually get a "xxx is not checked out" error and only occasionally get the "No connectivity with the server" error.
We've tried lots of things including:
    Deleting IE cache
Deleting SharePoint Drafts and webcache folder contents
    Running IE without add-ons
    Upgrading and Downgrading IE
    Uninstalling and re-installing IE
    Reinstalling our SSL certs
    Repairing Office
Removing and then adding back in the Microsoft Office "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Support" Office Tool
Deleting all HKLM and HKLU Office registry settings
    Toggling IE Compatibility Settings
Toggling the IE Automatic Logon option
Toggling the location of checked out files
Adding the site in the trusted sites list
Adding the site to the WebClient\Parameters registry locations
Making sure the WebClient service is started
    Rebooting the machine (lol :)
This is becoming a serious issue, not just because of the inconvenience for the users having to check out every document they want to read, but we have some files with macros that open up other documents to run which are now failing.  There aren't
"check out" workarounds for some of those macros.
We're planning to open a ticket with Microsoft, but I'm throwing it out here first in case someone has run into this before, or may have some suggestions on what to try next.  Thanks!
    -Richard.
PS  I think this needs to be in the "General" forum instead?

It took three days of dedicated troubleshooting, but I have found the cause of the errors, and a couple of fixes.  It helped tremendously that my own machine was throwing the error.  I have scheduled a couple of users to work with me to test the
various fixes, to see which one works best, so the story isn't over yet.
I had backed up my c:\users profile folder and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList registry key so I could restore my profile after I was done.  I made a copy of the profile folder and was using that for awhile,
but then made another copy where I had deleted a lot of content out of it so that the copies would go faster.  Since a newly created profile did not have errors, I was trying to copy back as much of the profile as possible to make it easier for our users
to get back to work.  Instead of blowing away their profile and starting from scratch (which we know worked) I wanted to narrow down what was causing the error and just skip that from the restore.  The concept was to keep as much as the users profile
in tact (application settings, etc.) not just restoring their desktop and My Documents folders.
When we first tested a few weeks ago, simply copying the folder contents didn't reproduce the error.  I then tried xcopy, but got the "can't read file" error.  Then I tried robocopy, and ran into the "junction" problem.
I went back to xcopy, and found that placing the excludes.txt file in the windows/system32 folder eliminated the error.
So the process went as follows:
Reboot and log into the machine as another user
Delete the profile and associated registry key
Reboot and log into the machine as the affected user, creating a new profile, and there is no error
Reboot and log in as the other user
xcopy the contents of the skinned-down backed-up profile to the newly created profile
Reboot and log in as the affected user, and the error occurs
Repeat the above, but add items in the excludes.txt file to see what, when eliminated, causes the error not to appear in the last step
I eventually found that skipping the c:\users\<profile folder>\appdata\local\Microsoft\office\14.0 folder allowed the entire profile to be copied over without the error occurring.  That was strange, because we've cleaned out the cache folders
before which didn't fix the issue.
So I went about it the opposite way, and tried to delete the 14.0 folder from the restored profile, and after reboot, the error still occurred.
What eventually worked was deleting the 14.0 folder and copying over a 14.0 folder from a newly created profile!
One way to do this was to:
Reboot and log in as another user
    Rename the c:\users profile folder
Rename the appropriate [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList] registry key
Reboot and log in as the affected user, confirm that there is no error
Reboot and log in as the other user
Copy the C:\Users\<profile folder>\AppData\Local\microsoft\Office\14.0 folder to the other user's desktop
Delete new profile folder, and rename the backup to be the production folder
Delete the C:\Users\<profile folder>\AppData\Local\microsoft\Office\14.0 folder and then paste the 14.0 copy from the desktop
Reboot and log in as the affected user, confirm that there is no error
We've tried this on a couple machines and it works.  I had to run Windows Explorer as Administrator to access the other profile's folders.
We've also successfully copied a 14.0 folder created by one profile on one affected computer over another profile's folder on another computer, eliminating the error, so we're trying that first, as that is fewer steps.
We may attempt to script this, but the self-help instructions are only 5 lines long:
Reboot and log into the affected computer with another account
Go to <link to location of 14.0 folder on network> and copy the 14.0 folder
    Run Windows Explorer as Administrator
Go to c:\users\<profile folder>\appdata\local\microsoft\office and delete the 14.0 folder, and paste the copied 14.0 folder (trying to overwrite it makes Win7 want to merge the folders)
Reboot and log into your normal account, and confirm the error is gone
I'll come back and report after we go into the field with this fix, but after the few tests, I am cautiously optimistic that this is it.

  • Help With Preview In Browser

Hello. I need some quick help please.
Every time I go to preview in browser, Dreamweaver asks "This
will update the file on the testing server. This might affect
others working on the file." I don't know what happened. Previously
I could go straight to the browser to view my page. But now, if I
hit yes (to continue) to preview in browser, the browser opens and
nothing is displayer. In fact, in the browser the address reads
    http://ftp... Eventually it times out.
As of now, the only way to see any changes that I make is to
Put the page, which is annoying and time consuming. So, how do I
change Dreamweaver settings to just allow me to preview the page
and bypass the testing server stuff?
    Thank you.

    > And I have to have ftp selected as my access method
    1. Are you using the real remote host as the Testing Server?
    2. Do you need to use a testing server for the survey script?
    Or is it a
    self-contained third-party script?
    3. probably cause of problem- you have entered ftp: into the
    "url prefix"
line of the testing server information.
put the url address to the root level of the testing server-
    in other words
    http://localhost/sitefolder/
if you install a local testing server
    http://www.example.com/ if using
the real server as the testing server.
AND- if using the real server for the testing server, ENABLE
    using temp
files for preview in browser, otherwise you will overwrite
    the current
remote file with the page you have your fingers in!.
best- IF you do need a testing server, install one on your
    computer.

  • Tag library 'div' hook

Well, 'div' is not corrupt, but the application programming related to customization of Tag libraries is corrupt.
    What is happening:
When Dreamweaver CC is installed, and when it opens fresh html files, it makes a mess of line breaks and indents in the text layout of the code. Using the menu item Commands / Apply source formatting also makes a mess, This menu command mess is a slight improvement over the horrendous mess that Dreamweaver CC makes of code when it opens and when it periodically 'refreshes' the files that it trashes. However, the code is not usable, as with more advanced css and html technique, the code becomes unreadable for Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, and presumably all browsers.
    DW's mess described:
All indents are as spaces, making manual clean-up repetitive, necessary and extremely tedious.
The head and body tags are indented far inside their content, and that content is also erratically indented.
The use of Tag library editor would seem the expected user path, in seeking a user resolution, and perhaps in defining a programmatic intervention.
All tags are trashed, put going to the heart of the html cascade, we start with the p tag: e.g., p tag in Tag libraries defaults as
Line breaks: before and after tag
    Contents: formatted and indented
    Case: default
We try numerous combinations of p tag settings in the noted dialog interface.
The p tag settings do not appear to effect the mess. Dreamweaver, ignores default and manual settings, sometimes shuffling the mess a little, but minor shuffling only occurring twice, and without any tag block line break changes.
Perhaps, for a given instance of Dreamweaver installation, within a given simple document's system interface, Dreamweaver settings may reveal something called a 'performance hook' by application programmers. Perhaps we can isolate a hook that is useful for the Adobe support; support that lacking professional attention has maintained Dreamweaver as a failed application for over a year (since October 2012) on my Windows desktop. We move next to the div tag.
Manual intervention 'exposes bad behavior of div tag' hook:
Our simple document layout is... simple. Deploying doctypes for both html5 and xhtml transitional and deploying internal and external style methods, with the same code trashing result, we correctly layout tags as HEAD, BODY, DIV and P. Beginning with the p tag, various tag library settings are applied to determine effect on Apply source formatting command. Various p tag settings have no effect, and p is returned to its DW default setting, as noted above. The following div tag settings disable Apply source formatting command's code trashing specifically of line indents.
Line breaks: before and after tag
    Contents: formatted but not indented
    Case: default
Unfortunately, with this setting, line breaks between only some tags are maintained during Dreamweaver's auto code trashing (e.g., between closing head and opening body tag): sometimes when Dreamweaver does it's auto (or manual) trashing, these specific line breaks, between block tags, are not preserved. However, with this Tag library setting for the div tag using the noted basic cascade, all tag indents are ignored. But only when code is manually kept against left margin, without any indentation. And, ONLY WITH DIV TAG HOLDING THESE PARTICULAR SETTINGS, FOR THIS PARTICULAR DOCUMENT!
FLAT CODE is preferable to the bigger mess that Dreamweaver routinely imposes as it auto trashes code. Also, allowing any left margin indentation worsens Dreamweaver's code trashing... so, given Dreamweaver's chaotic destructiveness, I don't know if it is correct to imply any significance to my manual Tag library settings management, but it is clear that Dreamweaver is unable to correct the mess it makes, using the manual Apply source formatting command. And this is the first 'performance hook' that has been defined for my desktop in over 400 days. But setting div tag in this way is the only way to stop Dreamweaver trashing code layout line indents (trashing that occurs both during Dreamweaver automatic actions and with user menu action, for the specific noted html layout - a layout that is far too basic to be useful for 99.9% of design work). But only for a given instance of Dreamweaver installation for a given OS installation, and not across OS installations, or with any other file than the file (or files, in relational assessment) targeted for our 'hook' presentation analysis.
    Conclusion:
Dreamweaver trashes code layout every time the application applies code formatting (e.g., opening new documents from other sources, applying menu commands, etc.). That is, all user code layout will be trashed by Dreamweaver. However, a specific div tag setting in Tag library editor may maintain a single instance for manual correction of Dreamweaver code trashing, when basic page layout is used with div in the noted cascade, and with div settings manually corrected as noted. This is a hopelessly unacceptable condition that the Dreamweaver application imposes on design work for my Windows 8.1 operating system. Professional designers of global significance and stature using many variants of Mac and PC systems have warned me not to use Dreamweaver, recommending numerous alternatives. I am taking the position that Adobe retains a shred of marketplace survivability, and therefore will promptly fix minor problems when I bring them to Adobe's attention.
    IMPORTANT:
Obviously, this is not acceptable application performance. Is support available to Adobe that will now, immediately repair the Dreamweaver application that I use as a paid subscription to eliminate systematic code trashing?

I figured it out. Under the Configuration/TagLibraries,
create a CrossTagAttr folder and stick a .vtm file in it. In the
.vtm file, use the <crosstag_attributes> tag and its
    children. See Configuration/TagLibraries/CrossTagAttr/Spry/Spry.vtm
    for an example.

  • New Mac Pro and migration question

I will be getting a new Mac Pro in a day or so. I currently have a G4 with all the Adobe suite programs and more. I am wondering if it is best to install those fresh. It sure would help to get all my Dreamweaver settings as I have a ton of sites.
Should I just transfer mail and prefs etc.

There are many pros and cons to doing such a thing. The biggest pro to doing so is expediency. Manual transitions, while more efficient, can be quite a pain even when you know what goes where. When this works it works great.
However, there are downsides to it. Firstly, being a new system the best way to gauge it's performance is to have everything fresh and new. While it's more effort you do get a much better feel for what you system can do and a much better awareness of when things are wrong.
Then there's the migration itself. With a data only migration I can't see much going wrong but there are instances when a migration does affect total system performance.
So I guess I've not really answered your question. There are benefits to opting both ways.

    Hey all!
Never posted before on this forum and pretty new with
dreamweaver. So I'm having the strangest issue with dreamweaver
tables. I bought a template that I'm modifying by my self which
isnt all that hard haha. But Here's what I ran into. Whenever I put
one table and then another one under it and another one under it
and I insert txt or pics in there and save it, after I upload it
and preview it, I can only see the info from the first table.
Everything else under it, wont show up.
So no matter where and on what page I do it from that
template, if I put more than 1 table down, it'll only show the info
from the first and top table and everything else in other tables
under it, wont show up at all (after I upload it) even thou it
looks good on dreamweaver itself :(
Is there an option to enable or disable something? Plz help,
    thank you all!

The bad news is that if you want to do anything remotely
    complicated with
Dreamweaver you will have to learn a fair amount about HTML.
    I would virtually
guarantee that when you put your new table in something is
    going wrong so that
one or other table is not being defined correctly.
As you are modifying someone else's template there is
    virtually no way to find
out what is happening other than to examine the HTML. It is
    unlikely that
fiddling with any Dreamweaver settings will make any
    difference.
Every table should start with something like:
    <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0"
    cellpadding="5"
    bgcolor="#e0e0ff">
    <tr align="center" valign="middle">
    <td width="9%"><a href="#Bottom">
    and end with:
    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>
You can have more or less as many columns as you like in a
    table, (<td> ...
    </td>
And more or less as many rows ( <tr><td> ...
    </td></tr>) as you like, but
unless you get up to special tricks you should have the same
    number of columns
in every row. You can put anything you like -- images, more
    tables, whatever --
    inside a cell e.g.:
    <td> image, blah, table </td>,
but you mustn't put any content anywhere else, and every
    opening definition
    (<table>, <tr>, <td> must have a matching
    closing definition in the correct
    order.
You can nest tables more or less indefinitely, but
    Dreamweaver Design View
sometimes blows its top if you go more than three deep.
HTML usually doesn't produce any error messages, but the
    effect of omitting any
of the steps in building a page is quite unpredictable.
    Sometimes a major error
will not produce any visible effect, but on other occasions a
    minor error will
    send the page completely haywire.
You may care to have a look at:
    http://www.corybas.com/Technical/Wrapping.htm
This has a series of demonstration pages illustrating what
    happens when you try
to display increasingly complicated page layouts on narrow
    screens.
Once you have learnt to interpret HTML, you can often learn a
    lot by inspecting
the source code for the page (in IE click view, then Source).
    This works with
anybody's page, so you can look at the source code for my
    pages if you wish.

  • br / instead of br

    Quick question -
When I use the quick tag select - where you hit the tag you
want Dreamweaver to paste into the code - when I hit the 'break'
tag it adds it as <br>. I would like it to add it as <br
    />.
How do I make Dreamweaver add the break the way I want it
    added as?
    Thanks for the help everyone.
    Amber.

As you can see below, the smileys look crappy when reading
    from NNTP. It's
better not to use them at all. Note also what happens to your
    formatting
    <sigh>.
