Dreamweaver / Sharepoint Developer NIGHTMARE

I am a long time Dreamweaver user and love using it for all
my web design work. Our workplace is talking about making a
transition to Sharepoint for all our web sites on post. Even though
I find it hard to believe they will be able to rid the entire
network of servers of all normal HTML coded web pages and go
exclusively to Sharepoint I figured that I better look at
Sharepoint to get an idea of what I am up against.
Just when I was making headway redesigning my new department
external website using Dreamweaver I made the mistake of installing
Sharepoint Developer to see what the buzz was about. Since I was in
the middle of working on the site, after downloading and running
the trial version of Sharepoint Developer I declined the restart to
complete the installation opting to check it out later when I was
done editing. While editing and creating new buttons for the site I
realized I had mistakenly put the files in the wrong folder so I
highlighted all the files needed to be moved in the Dreaweaver
sidebar using CTRL to selct only the needed files and dragged them
to the appropriate folder.... unfortuately I had just opened my
site template and had that highlighted as well. When I dragged the
files to the correct folder of course Dreamweaver prompted me to
update the pages on the site since I was moving the template (I
didn't realize til after I said yes) but after realizing it dragged
the template as well I just figured I'd drag the template back to
the template folder.....
Well, when I did so, Sharepoint Developer kicks in for some
reason and starts configuring files... I'm like WTF???
So when if completes I open the template and it decides to
OPEN IN SHAREPOINT Deleloper instead of just opening in Dreamweaver
which is still open at this point!!!!!!!!!!
So I close Sharepoint Developer and UNINSTALL the demo
figuring this will solve my problem.... WRONG....
After uninstalling Sharepoint Developer I try to open the
template and it asks me what APP I want to use to open it????
hmmmm... so I stop, right click on the file to select Dreamweaver
as the app associated with the file but when I click on the
Dreamweaver exe file to associate it with the file, Windows will
not allow me to do so, in fact it lists all the other apps in the
list of available apps to select but NOT
Dreamweaver?????????????????
So I restart figuring this will solve my problem.....WRONG!!
No matter what I do, Windows WILL NOT allow me to select
Dreamweaver as the default app for these files, in fact EVERY file
previously associated with Dreamweaver will not NOT OPEN with
Dreamweaver.... it automatically opens the window as if I right
clicked to allow me to select the app I want to associate to the
file... and now, FRONTPAGE is available (of course since it is aa
WINDOWS program) but still NO DREAMWEAVER. Then I browse to the
Dreamweaver folder as I tried earlier and when I double click and
select Dreamwever, WINDOWS IGNORES ME and reverts back to the
previous program...
What the hell am I suppose to do now???
Should I uninstall Studio Suite and then reinstall it, reset
all my setting and files and spend the next 2 days getting back on
track or does someone else know a better fix
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No you won't. Export your site settings and save your
workspace config. You
can find out how to do those things in DW's Help (F1)

  • Access excel sheet uploaded in library on sharepoint using sharepoint development

    Hi,
I have an excel sheet which i have uploaded on sharepoint site as a library.
now i want to access this excel sheet using sharepoint development(c#).
    Is it possible?
I have one another query- I want to read excel sheet using sharepoint 2010 development.
Please help to solve both issues.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards

    Hi rajni,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to access the excel files uploaded in a library and read the worksheet data by C#.
You can read excel file using Excel Services. The Excel Services REST API is a new feature of Excel Services that enables you to access Microsoft Excel workbook data by using a uniform resource locator (URL) address. Using the REST API, you can retrieve
resources such as ranges, charts, tables, and PivotTables from workbooks stored on SharePoint Server 2010. More inforamtion, please refer to the link below:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh124646(v=office.14).aspx
There are other useful links about accessing and reading excel file in library, please take a look at:

  • SharePoint Development,Deployment,Staging Environment system requirements(Hardware,Software,Required services)

    Hi
       I want to know,
           1. System requirement for VM based Sharepoint 2013 development environment for minimum 3 user's
           2. SharePoint Topologies based on system architecture, system requirements
           3. General SharePoint Development environment with all required services
           4. SharePoint Deployment/Staging environment with all required services
Please help me to get the detailed informations on the above
    Regards,
    Siva

    Hi Siva_SREC,
My environment built for three developers is a 3-tier SharePoint farm. The physical hardware has 32 GB RAM divided as the following virtual machines that all get hosted inside Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V (Datacenter edition)
Active Directory - 2 GB: Used to provide authentication to all joined virtual machines in the farm.
Enterprise Database - 6GB: Used to host all SharePoint databases and TFS database.
3 x SharePoint Farm - 6GB: It depends on how big your project are. For example, if you need each develop to develop SharePoint in particular farm then you should separate 3 farms. Each farm has a SharePoint farm configuration database and relevant database.
If you need multiple developers to develop on the same farm then you need to join another server to the existing farm.
Team Foundation Server - 4GB: Used to store source code and files and for development collaboration
We have remaining 2 GB and it's quite enough for the physical host to run Hyper-V. I've also had a few other machines for specific purpose. For example, I've done building a single WAC farm that provides Office Web App service to SharePoint. I could turn
off one of SharePoint machines when my developer isn't working in order to test OWA. If you are having chances to work on SharePoint 2013 app development project so you would need to have a dedicated machine acting as a Provider that is responsible for providing
web service to the SharePoint. Of course in this case you use provider-hosted app or the combination of SharePoint-hosted app and provider-hosted app. Personally, this machine shouldn't be joined to the AD domain controller. It should be a separate AD because
in real-world scenario, your provider isn't the same AD with client's environment.
In terms of SharePoint topology design, I'd consider configuring 2-tier farm (WFE & App) because in many cases, you would have to deploy your solution in the environment that has many machines separated each other.
At the end of the day, it all depends on your budget and the size of your project. I would say there is no silver bullet on the hardware requirement. For example, the hardware needed for large project is totally different from the one for just SharePoint
    branding task.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Junior SharePoint developer

How many hours in a SharePoint project do you need to work in order to be called as a junior SharePoint developer?

Exactly 37 hours, 38 if you work mostly on Farm Solutions.
As you might have guessed i'm not entirely serious with that response. You can call yourself a Junior SharePoint developer at any point, the interesting question is what you know and what you can do. Job titles are only useful when applying for another one
or when arguing for a payrise.

  • Dreamweaver MX Developer Course

    Hi,
I have been looking at some of the distance learning courses
that are available on studio 8, e.g. Macromedia Certified
Dreamweaver MX Developer. And there's my first problem; they all
seem to be for MX and not 8, I have heard from some people (the
ones that are trying to sell me the courses!) that this is because
of the take over by Adobe and that although the courses will be
    re-labelled the content won't change. Understandably I can't quite
bring myself to trust them so I am hoping that you kind,
knowledgeable folk out there can fill me in on the courses, and
whether and when they will be updated.
    Thanks,
    JoJo x

None of them. Get a good book on HTML and on CSS and work
    your way through
them. Then you'll have the tools to decide what to take and
    what to avoid.

  • Dreamweaver Certified developer listing

Where can I find the Dreamweaver Certified developer listing?
I am Unable to locate the link.

If you designed and coded the assignment yourself, the exam should be no problem. Just make sure you remind yourself of your design choices and why you made them. The exam comprises 5 essay type questions that ask about your design, its pros/cons, other approaches you considered etc. I got the impression that the purpose was to check that I really did the assignment myself and could justify my approach.

  • VS2013 changes my script tags when I edit a javascript file on Office 365 Sharepoint Developer

I posted this issue on the sharepoint online thread, and was asked to move the discussion here:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/24e7060f-bef8-492c-a7b1-4a0aa9279a53/office-365-sharepoint-developer-changes-my-script-tags-when-i-edit-a-javascript-file?forum=sharepointdevelopment
On my Office 365 Sharepoint Developer site, I have a custom edit form page (editform2.aspx) created for a list and have added a script reference in the additionalpagehead like this
     <script src="/JavaScripts/angular/angular-formly-master/dist/formly.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
Whenever I edit the file at /JavaScripts/angular/angular-formly-master/dist/formly.js using VS2013 and save it SharePoint replaces my script tag with this:
     <script src="/JavaScripts/angular/angular-formly-master/dist/formly.js~RF322607.TMP" type="text/javascript"></script>
I thought maybe it had something to do with versioning on my Javascripts library , but versioning is not even enabled there.
What's with that? How can I prevent it?

    Hi Russell_G,
Actually this forum is to discuss the VS IDE, to really repro this issue, I'm afraid that it would require the high SharePoint development knowledge, but based on your previous
thread, since the SharePoint members could repro this issue.
You can submit this feedback to Microsoft Connect feedback portal: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/CreateFeedback.aspx,Microsoft

    Hi Russell,
According to your description, there is an issue when editing a .js file which is saved in a document library of your developer site.
This is what I have done in my environment:
    1. Create a Document Library “JavaScripts” with the sub folders and formly.js file as you did;
    2. Create a custom list, a custom edit form “editform2.aspx” for it;
    3. Edit the “editform2.aspx” in SharePoint Designer 2013, reference the formly.js file like this in the “PlaceHolderAdditionalPageHead”:
    4. Edit the formly.js file in SharePoint Designer and save, repeat the process several times;
It turns out that the “src” attribute of the script tag stays unchanged.
To narrow down the issue, I would suggest you create another custom edit form for that list and test again to see if the issue still exists.
Feel free to reply if there any progress.

  • SharePoint Development 2010, Where is a good start? For Beginners

I need a resource that will tell me how to use the ASP controls in Designer 2010. Something that tells me about XSLT customization and jquery, all relating to SharePoint 2010. I've been thru many books. SO far, they all fall seriously short.
I need a book that talks about the ASP controls in Designer, the SharePoint controls in Designer. So far, everything pushes me to Visual Studio. I need something that tells me HOW to type in ASP control attributes, where to put them, how to bind them to
a list. Does such a book exist? I need something that tells me about XSLT and how it relates to SharePoint 2010. What are the beginner options?
These are the books I have so far: Beginning SharePoint 2010 Development (another Visual studio book), SharePoint 2010 as a Development Platform. There's an XSLT book(?, wouldn't really call it a book by Marc Anderson, who, normally I like but that books
is horrible, literally a cut and paste of XSLT tags with a description. Can't believe I paid 25 bucks for that when all I had to was look at the code in Designer).
Need something, anything, that tells me about ASP controls and how to tie them to a SharePoint list. So far, I've found nothing that walks you thru that process without having Visual Studio. Do I need Visual Studio? How bout Express? Do I need to be able
to deploy everything I do in Visual Studio or can I just compile there and look at the code and then paste that into Designer? Where I work, Visual Studio Express IS an option but deployment is not. But do I really need to go that far. I think I just need
a good book that goes thru each webform control option in Designer and talks about the attributes for each and how to bind the data to a list. I'm really surprised at how difficult it is to find such info without having to look at a bunch of Google searches.
Also, something talking about XSLTviewwebparts. For example, was trying to add a FORM ACTION WORKFLOW but couldn't figure out how to bind it the list item so that it would run on THAT list item. There just seems to be a serious lack of organized info out
    there.

Computer monitors and television monitors (Plasma, LCD or CRT) don't work in the same color space (RGB vs YUV), and gamma range. Using a computer monitor to preview your work is one thing. Regardless, all monitors need to be calibrated adequately. Take nothing for granted, and always keep in mind that nothing "out of the box" is adequately calibrated.
The advantages of having a professional monitor is the blue-gun, or blue-only feature, that allows you to calibrate the monitor with SMPTE color bars, by eye.  http://www.glennchan.info/broadcast-monitors/monitor-calibration/monitor-calibration.htm
I just learned (and ordered) of a tool that helps in calibrating consummer televisions: http://www.spearsandmunsil.com. Without such a tool it's a real hassle to properly calibrate a consumer television in general.
If you are going to manually calibrate a monitor without the blue-only option, get a Wratten 47B dark blue photographic filter, and place it over the monitor when adjusting chroma and phase with the SMPTE color bars.
As for computer monitors, calibration can be very accurate when calibrating with a puck. SpectraView comes bundled with some NEC monitors. So if you're buying a NEC monitor, it is worthwhile to get the Spectraview II. SpectraView is exclusive to NEC, so if you need to calibrate other brands of monitors, you need to find another solution, like the xrite, lacie, spyder, etc.
    http://www.dpbestflow.org/color/monitor-calibration-and-profiling
Two input values you need to know for calibration software: White Point: 6500 K (D65) and Gamma: 2.22

    Not for imaging purposes.
You could have an environment that is ready-to-go with the bits installed, but not configured. You would then have a post-imaging script that would configure the farm. In this process, you would also need to make sure SQL Server was aware of the server's
    new name (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143799.aspx).

  • Moving DreamWeaver website development back and forth between a laptop & desktop?

Ok, let's say that I've installed DreamWeaver on my laptop and desktop machines.
I am developing a website on the laptop:  I've created a template, and generated all the children webpages from that template.
When I update the template - all the children webpages of that template update!  (( This is one of the most powerful features of DreamWeaver, IMO ))
Now I have decided to move the entire website development over to the Desktop - that mean all the files and folders, as well as the DreamWeaver information regarding the Template and the children webpages that were developed from that template...
    How do you do this?
    Thanks for any help.

It is an external HD, yes, but a "portable" HD... I have also tried just the external HD but found it very bulky and I always had to lug around the power supply and cords for the HD. Google "portable hard drive passport 500gb"... for example... that's what I use.
    http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&sugexp=pfwl&tok=o-MzmA7RWsR0_HVA9BIvtg&cp=32& gs_id=2n&xhr=t&q=portable+hard+drive+passport+500gb&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb& biw=1176&bih=861&wrapid=tljp1327460600580060&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=116127269428491234 13&sa=X&ei=DHEfT9G5Goeq2gWr2umRAw&sqi=2&ved=0CJgBEPICMAE#
I had originally set up my client files on my desktop... those files not only included the Web site files, but ALL related communication, content, development files (images, videos, Flash). Nothing worse than being away from home and realizing I'd forgotten to take the photo/text/video development files with me. So I just copy/pasted the ENTIRE client file on the the portable drive... which included any DW site files. Now you may have to adjust some drive names (D:, L:, J: or whatever.) but you can hot swap back and forth and always carry the current version with you to whichever computer you are on
A "portable" HD rather than just an "external"...which may need it's own power supply, means that you can hot swap the HD, just like a thumb drive.... only a heck af a lot BIGGER!
....But during testing and set up... always keep a complete backup of ALL files until you get your particular set up working.
    Best wishes,
    Adninjastrator

  • Microsoft sharepoint developer certification 70-489

     Hello Friends,
I'm planning to write 70 -489 SharePoint 2013 advance solution developer cert on march 15th 2014
    I'm new to this area
can you please provide me below info
    1) How to start preparting ? is there any pdf's or books available
    2) How many questions will be there in actual exam? how many marks ? pass mark?
    Thanks
    kkm

    Hi,
As Luigi already explained you need to know about all the topics listed in the exam information, they will be used in the exam questions.
Unfortunately the MS-Press self paced study title for exam 70-480 has not been released yet.
But if you look on amazon then you will find some SharePoint 2013 related books that might help:
    http://www.amazon.com/70-489-Study-Guide-Developing-SharePoint/dp/1493583611
Some real-life experience with designing SharePoint 2013 is recommended, if you are new to designing SharePoint  then it might to be difficault to pass this exam.
Also consider to go for the Developing Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 Core Solutions exam first (exam 70-488). This exam is also part of the MCSD: SharePoint Applications certification:
