Dreamweaver sitemap tool -- google savy?

is it xml and Sitemap 9.0 compliant.
i see there are some extensions available for creating google
sitemap files, but is that necessary?
if not, what kind of sitemap file is created with
dreamweaver's built in tools?
thanks in advance,

Nothing usable.

  • Submitting Sitemap to Google

Hi everyone, I just watched a lynda.com video which said to submit a sitemap to Google, all you needed to do was add sitemap.xml after the web address (in the appropriate box, within Google Webmaster Tools, in add a sitemap screen) and Google would be able to find it.  When I did that, I got an error saying Google couldn't find it.
I've done the websites in question in Muse and they are hosted through Business Catalyst.
Is there another way to do that?
    Thank you,
    Annette

Both the sites are over an year old by creation date. Earlier in those days, site admins could easily disable the sitemap from their admin panel. The option is still there but is not directly accessible so that the user doesn't disable the option by mistake. For all new sites you create in BC now, sitemap.xml is enabled by default (and with the disable option hidden) so its quite unlikely that you would make this mistake.

  • IWeb sitemap and Google search

I'm sorry, I mistakenly formerly entered this topic as a post on a previously answered question regarding Google Keywords. I have more questions on this topic.
    I have two questions:
    2. I have .mac and am using domain forwarding. I obtained and followed step by step instructions from iweb Faq - show up on Google. I obtained the sitemap and placed it in the Web/Site folder. When I check with Google webmaster tools, I get the following warning:
    URLs not followed
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot because they contained too many redirects. Please change the URLs in your Sitemap that redirect and replace them with the destination URL (the redirect target). All valid URLs will still be submitted.
    2. How do I refresh my iweb sitemap?
I'm a genuine newbie, and don't know anything about html.
    Thanks for any help.

Here's a couple of examples of links to other sites.....
    http://www.mirroroftheuniverse.com/Contact.html
    http://www.mirroroftheuniverse.com/Buy.html
These can be links to sites that you think would be of interest to your viewers, retail outlets and services related to your product.
Some of the links on the "Buy" page are there because these sites link to mine and the site owners have requested a link to theirs. This particular product is listed on 60+ sites so I can't possibly put them all in although, in a perfect world, I would take the time to do so!
Interlinking of websites is normally a reciprocal arrangement between site owners whose websites compliment each other but are not in direct competition.

  • Trying, but unable to Submit Sitemap to Google

I made a sitemap.xml file of my website with Rage Sitemap Automator. I'm supposed to submit a URL to Google, and the Rage Sitemap Automator produced a URL to submit, the one that the software used to get my website files. The problem is that at Google, where you submit the sitemap URL, my website URL is in front of Sitemap field/enter box. After entering the URL into this field, Google tacks it onto the end of my website URL and it comes back "this seems to be a html page" and "404 not found." (Of course there is no webpage with a URL like that)! I've tried many other combinations, what seems to come closest to working is entering my website URL/sitemap.xml, this seems to point to the location of this .xml file since most of my website files are in a folder with my website URL as the title, that is within my Sites Folder. At least then my webpages are listed, but they all have the red X's by them, also the link "See Sitemap" works and links to my sitemap. Not good enough. Any ideas out there?

Both "http://web.me.com/username/" & "http://web.me.com/username/websitename/" link to the "Enter" Pg. of my website. If you refer back to my first reply to you on this post (the Rage Support Suggestion), I submitted the 2nd URL (above) to Google Webmaster Tools and this time was able to verify it, and access a Dashboard. But when I entered the this 2nd URL into the Sitemap entry field, same results: "404 not found." Days ago I suggested to the Rage Support guy that MobileMe Support told me "they blocked spiders" and basically discouraged its users from being involved with Google's Tools. The Rage guy assured me I was "confused & mistaken, that most of their Sitemap Automator users were with MobileMe," he then offered to solve the problem if I sent my Google Login info. I didn't write back.
So I think your right-it wont work. And for awhile now I've known I wasn't going to renew with MobileMe. Do you have any opinions about possible reliable commercial hosting services, especially with regards to publishing with iWeb and setting up an online store?
    Thanx for trying to help.

  • Help submitting sitemap to Google

I'm trying to submit the sitemap for my Muse site using Google webmaster tools.
Each time I submit the sitemap I get an error message that the "URL is not allowed" and "This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location." The sitemap that's automatically generated by Business Catalyst is using the site.businesscatalyst.com domain instead of my default domain name and it's causing an error.
Does anyone know what's happening here?
    Thanks!
    Alan

Have you upgraded your BC site and added your domain to the site as well? Please refer this two part tutorial here: http://www.adobekb.com/launching_pt01.html and http://www.adobekb.com/launching_pt02.html
Once you have added the domain to your site and redelegated your domain to BC (to connect your domain name and your BC site), you can submit http://www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml to Google Webmaster Tools and Google will be able to access the same.
If you can share your site domain name and your BC site URL, it would provide us with some information to investigate and confirm status of your domain and site.
    Cheers,
    Vikas

  • Missing site parsing? Graphic sitemap tool?

I remember having seen (and used) a feature in DreamWeaver for parsing a whole site into the local computer, keeping the structure as original.
I have a wordpress site that I'd like to make into a graphic sitemap.
I can't do it from the files since it's everything into the database.
I'd like to replicate the site, as it's seen from client, into my local computer, but I CAN'T FIND THAT OPTION anymore in CS4.
Any ideas where it is or how can I create a sitemap (not file structure/hierarchy of server files but rather content seen by client) with another tool?
    thanks.

    Hi AGrush,
Based on your description, did you mean that attempt to install Microsoft Azure Active Directory Sync tool
    on Windows Server 2012 Essentials?
The Azure Active Directory Sync tool should be installed on a computer which isn't a domain controller. For
more details, please refer to the System requirements in the following KB.
How to troubleshoot Azure Active Directory Sync tool installation
    and Configuration Wizard error messages
In addition, I’m a little confused that why install DirSync (That is what the Windows Server Essentials Office
365 integration is for) on Windows Server 2012 Eseentails.

If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sitemap for google from page created with Adobe Muse

"Can anyone help me with submitting my site to google.
I realise adobe muse automatically creates a sitemap.xml file, however I am not sure how to submit this to Google?
Is there a way to upload the sitemap.xml file into the muse sites' root folder.

    Hey there,
I had to edit your post because it was being flagged as spam by the system.
You never need to go into that hidden admin page, you already have your sitemap.xml generated. To register your site with google you need to use google webmaster tools.
Google for that and read up on how to use it. Note - To set the site up use the meta data version to put on your site.

  • Dreamweaver CMS Tools or Adobe CMS?

With the rise of free CMS systems like WordPress, Pligg, Joomla, and Drupal it would be nice to see Adobe create some kind of developer tools for some of these products. Some great things might be:
    1. A CMS Project Setup Dialog in Dreamweaver that provides the following:
         a.Scaffolding
b.Code assist specific to the CMS being designed for
         c.Code Snippets
Or….what does everyone think of an Adobe CMS?
Something that is flexible enough to easily support Flash, Flash Builder, Air applications, or Spry widgets. This System could be a based on, say-- Drupal with special modules or plugins to interface with Adobe products. This way there would be no need to create an entirely new community or try to complete with popular and well supported CMS products.
This would be a great way to develop Flash apps for a CMS. If a special version of AMF was built into the Adobe CMS so that users were forced to use best practices for connecting Flash to a CMS. Also this would provide a great prebuilt structure for Flash developers to tie into and get their apps up and running faster.
This could be great for Air applications as well.
    What does everyone else think?

Fair enough, I think you make some good points here on the Adobe CMS issue.
How do you feel about more CMS oriented tools for say template building? Seems to me Dreamweaver is rapidly being surpassed by Eclipse based HTML editors like aptana. I don’t know anybody who isn’t doing most of their development/design work within some kind of CMS system. Perhaps I’m alone in this but I don’t think so.
The ability to quickly style something and view the results as I work is what makes DW so much better than typing everything by hand in notepad. If style control and document organization assistance is not keeping up with the commonly used tech of the day there is no reason to use DW.
It would be nice to see Dreamweaver be more robust in the following areas:
It would be great to have the Property Inspector merged with the CSS window. This particular UI example is very intriguing http://vimeo.com/8109356. The current CSS styling in DW is too cumbersome; you can type the code faster than you can create something using the menus. Why not tie in code snippets with the CSS styling? With this approach I could right click on an object and select a “save style as snippet” option. Later, on a new project I could easily reuse this by selecting an item and in the “style” inspector applying the snippet. Dreamweaver should by default place css in an external .css document that can be assigned or generated by DW. Yes, I know that DW can do this to an extent but it needs to be pushed further. “Smart Style” creation would be nice, by this I mean DW would automatically separate out layout css (divs and ids) and font/element style css into their own separate documents if I want. Joomla templates often have multiple css documents.
Custom code– Code hinting and code snippets are great but it would be nice to see these go farther and play a bigger role. It would be great to be able to add my own Layouts to the new document window.
Project instead of Site—it would be awesome to have the ability to create “projects” like The Flex IDE (eclipse) does. I should be able to customize these Project’s directories and pre-populated files using DW. This way if I’m going to build a website that needs a folder for CSS and JS (and I also want the css file to be named style.css and the javascript to be called js.js) that could be a Project template I select and Dreamweaver builds it out for me.
Grid Wizard—it would be great to have a layout wizard during the new document setup where I can place in column width and number, gutter width and margin width. Dreamweaver would then output an HTML and supporting css document within the project.

  • Dreamweaver 6 corrupts files when uploading via Dreamweaver ftp tool

When I use Dreamweaver to upload a file very often something gets corrupt. Javascript ceases to work. The page runs locally and javascript works. The file is fine when I upload with a different ftp tool (fetch, Transmit, etc).
When I view the source of the non-working file the code looks all garbled.
When I upload the file witha diftterent ftp tool, all is well.
Never saw this before. What's up?
    Using Mac, Lion, latest versions.

You can see a sample page here
The js is a simple date script I've been using for years.
Check out the formatting change after the upload with CS6 - This ONLY happens with CS6.

  • Where can I get a sitemap from my muse website that is acceptable to Google webmaster?

I went to the domain www.albuquerquepoolcovers.com/sitemap.xml and that returned a string which I tried to submit to Google webmaster tools but it is rejected. Not really sure why. Does anybody know what to do to get a suitable sitemap for Google? Shawn

Yup, your question and Diane's answer helped me also. Tho' I had had problems before getting into the iTunes store I always managed to find a way. Today they had me blocked cold with the "Update to 10" advert no matter what I did. Other questioners are being told, incorrectly as it turns out, that they have to update their OS to accomodate iTunes 10 and upgrade to iTunes 10. I did the download which did not take up much more room on my crowded old hard drive and now I'm back in business.

  • Displaying Video in Google Search Results

    Hello,
I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right place. So I appologise if I have it wrong.
I am trying to get my video thumbnail to appear along with my website in Google Searches. I have found examples of the HTML markup and the video sitemaps and modified them to suite my needs, I have included the HTML into my website and uploaded the sitemap in Google Webmaster Tools a couple of weeks ago. However, the video still doesn't apppear in the Google Searches. I used Dreamweaver CS6 to embed the video file into my HTML4 website. Google has accepted the sitemap and everything seems to be ok, except that it still doesn't display in the Google Searches.  I have placed the code I used below. Can someone please help me with where I have gone wrong.

Aslo I was wondering if there is a way with Dreamweaver to add the "Play" button onto the video clip itself instead of having it underneith the clip on the player controls.
Can someone please help me with what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks,

@Ken: Good find! I didn't look into the code in detail.
@potzki: No, your markup for sitemap seems fine. But like Ken said, the image is not available on the server. Also, do note that the sitemap is only an 'indicator' for Google and will help Google in understanding how your site is laid out - since it is you, the sitemaster, that creates the sitemap and pushes it to Google. But, it's not end of the road for Google. It will cache other areas of your site - unless you've explicitly told Google not to using robots.txt file.
One more observation - your domain name is like way tooooooo long - forget google, for regular people to type into. Is there a specific reason you chose this one rather than a short, concise one?

  • Tags showing up on Google

My website is showing up on Google, but the description is reading as follows:
    <<photography shapeimage1_link0. bio shapeimage2_link0. contact shapeimage3_link0.>>
What is the best way to correct this? Do I have to insert Meta tags somehow, or did I just do something wrong in the design.

And I've just noticed that last month Google announced a pilot partnership with Go Daddy to provide easy access to Webmaster Tools. See here:
And as Go Daddy's news release states here:
"...Once setup, Go Daddy will automatically submit sitemaps to Google on behalf of its customers. Sitemaps inform Google about new Web pages or updates to a customer's site and help to increase their coverage of Web pages in Google's index."
...For those wondering who to host their iWeb site with, Google integration may help decide in Go Daddy's favor.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Templates

I sometimes get a little lost with all of the different files on my computer.  Or maybe I am not looking in the right place.  But I have DW CS4 that was purchased in summer 2009.  My question is - are there any nice web templates that came with the software that I can look through and see what's there for a project?
Or, are there any professional-looking templates from Adobe that are free that I can download?  I am looking for something that already looks great and all I need to do is download it or open it, then do a little bit of customization to make it look unique.
    Thanks - Deaf Guy

A simple Google search should get you on your way.
    http://www.dreamweaver-templates.net/free-web-templates.htm
    http://www.webassist.com/free-downloads/dreamweaver-templates/
(By the way, WebAssist also sells complete Dreamweaver creation tools and they're really good).
    http://www.buytemplates.net/promotion-templates/dreamweaver-template-free-download.php
But if you open Dreamweaver and pull down File>New you should see a New Document window that allows you to choose from a Blank Page, a Blank Template, a Page from a Template (assuming you all ready have a template set up) a Page from Sample or Other.
You can then choose from a long list of page types (you will want to choose HTML or HTML Template) and layouts for your pages. And all of these come with Dreamweaver. You will see previews in the far right box if you choose one layout or another.
One thing I would caution you on. Some of the templates that are installed in Dreamweaver CS3 (which is what I am using) and which may be installed in CS4 may be table-based. Table-based layouts are deprecated these days and you should pick designs that are created using CSS and <div> tags.
