Dreamweaver synch has exploitable insecure holes?

The company who hosts the server for one of my (Dreamweaver) websites sent me this note advising me to use WinSCP to upload files to the server, specifically requesting I not use Dreamweaver:
"Many propriety software packages like Dreamweaver contain security holes which are exploitable when you attempt to upload files.  A packet sniffer latches onto files uploaded in this manner and can attempt to gain entrance to the server through proprietary exploits. Hacking has become very sophisticated. WinSCP is very secure."
Is this true? or is it bunk. He's telling me Dreamweaver's upload/synchronize  process is compromising his servers. This kind of information is beyond my knowing - I rely on Adobe to keep the software secure.
There has not been a problem as far as I know - his quesiton of how I upload became an issue when he migrated servers, the site went down ["That was due to a syntax error at the nameserver which is now corrected.'] but browser visits are now displaying a site which is 2 weeks out of date and will not respond to uploads that - from Dreamweaver;s point of view - have successfully synchronized onto the new server. The current files seem to be on the server but do not display when a browser visits the site.
He seems to be tellng me this problem is my Dreamweaver software problem. I can't use WinSCP anyway - al lthis is happening from a Mac OSX platform.
does that make sense? Is Dreamweaver a security hole!

He might be right but it's the first I've ever heard of such claims and I've seen nothing online about it.
Does he have any links that we could research this further? I'm sure Adobe would love to know about it.

  • Installed Mavericks - Now Dreamweaver CC has slowed to a Crawl

    Dreamweaver's poor performance under Mavericks is causing me enormous problems.
    I have wasted many hours trying to find a solution, and even more waiting for Dreamweaver to respond to the simplest of changes/additions to HTML/CSS.
    It seems that Apple's apparent generosity in providing Mavericks as a Free Upgrade is, in reality, Apple covering it's back for creating an 'upgrade' that is not fit for purpose.
    Are there any solutions available, or on the immediate horizon?  Such as disabling App Nap in it's entirity?
    Or, is best to take a retrograde step and reinstall Mountain Lion?
    Very disappointing behaviour on your part, Apple!

    RogerOut -- Every comment you've made on this issue has been of little use, and only serves to be argumentitive.  How are any of your comments working to resolve the issue?
    "Ever thought of doing a Google search?"  Well, yes -- I think most people start with Google.  Cutting-edge, or unique issues may not, however, show up in a Google search (at least, not on the first few pages -- even Google crawlers take time to index new posts).  But someone has to be the first to post a question.  Would you also berate that first person for posting a question?  And the link you supplied does not solve the issue of Dreamweaver being sluggish.  The problem they had was a swap-space/drive issue -- which could have affected multiple applications that rely on that kind of swap space.  Besides, your comment suggests that the link you provided was easy to find and was the solution to the problem.  You've failed to realize that there may be a lot of problems at play... and a lot of ways to resolve different problems that might have similar-looking symptoms, but that are not related otherwise.  For example, I have a problem with Dreamweaver CC (even after the new December 18, 2013 patch) -- it is excessively sluggish, constantly runs 35-55% of CPU, even when idle, and often times freezes.  I've been using Dreamweaver CS5.5 instead, as it works just fine under Mavericks.
    My Dreamweaver problem has yet to be solved.  I've tried uninstalling AIR, I've tried removing the Creative Cloud application manager from the menu, and a host of other suggested "fixes" posted on various pages -- including the page that you linked to as the "Ever thought of doing a Google search?" end-all-be-all fix.  Didn't work for me.... so my quest continues.

  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 has shopped working

    In the past two days I have been getting the following error
    message when I try to make changes to an open page in Dreamweaver
    CS3:
    "Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 has stopped working"
    "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
    Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
    available".
    I am running Windows Vista Ultimate. I have not installed any
    new programs recently, so I'm thinking that either a recent Windows
    Update or and Adobe Update may be causing this new problem. Is this
    a known issue? Does anyone know of a solution to this
    problem?

  • Dreamweaver 8 has stopped updating links properly

    I am using Dreamweaver 8 on a Mac to maintain our site (www.local-history.co.uk) which sits inside a folder labelled WWW on our ISP's server. Recently I've updated the design and coding of the site, and while I was building the new site I uploaded it to a folder called LHO inside the WWW folder so that I could see it live. LHO didn't appear in any of the paths on the site. I used 3 templates for the site which had links to CSS files using the path ../Multiflex/css/appropriateCSSfile.css. I created all the pages on the site using the templates and in all cases the paths were saved correctly, depending on whether the pages was in the root folder or in a sub-folder.
    Once I was satisfied with the site, I uploaded it to the root folder on the server (WWW) and deleted the site in the LHO sub-folder. It all appeared to be working well, until I created 3 new news pages (one of which is www.local-history.co.uk/news/090511MuseumNights.html) and added links to them on the latest news page (www.local-history.co.uk/latestnews.html). I previewed the news page in a browser, Firefox, and it appeared fine, but when I previewed the latest news page and clicked the links to the news pages I had created, then it was obvious that the CSS code had not been applied. When I looked at the path to the CSS file which had been saved I found it was /Multiflex/css/appropriateCSSfile.css. When I uploaded the pages they appeared to be using the appropriate CSS code, although the top of the page graphic wasn't showing.
    I can only assume that this is happening because I moved the site to the root folder WWW, but I don't understand why. If anyone has any advice about this I would be very grateful to hear from them!
    Susie

    Here are the links to the stylesheets on that local news page -
      <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen,projection,print" href="/Multiflex3/css/2column_setup.css" />
      <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen,projection,print" href="/Multiflex3/css/2column_text.css" />
    You are being confused by a) not understanding root relative vs document
    relative links, and b) not understanding how DW previews files.
    If I have a document with a link to an image that looks like this -
    <img src="/images/foo.gif"...
    That's what's called a root relative link.
    If I preview that document in DW, then the browser gets the document, sees
    the leading "/" and reads that as the root of the hard drive, since the
    browser has no idea where the root of the site is.  Thus, the image is
    broken in the preview.
    If I have temp files enabled, then DW will secretly convert the file being
    previewed into a temporary file, and hand that to the browser.  This temp
    file has had all root relative links converted to document relative links
    (as you will see by looking at the code in the browser), and has had all
    include files actually embedded in the page, and has had all external CSS
    and js markup embedded in the page.  In other words, DW has made the
    document into a stand-alone page.
    If you do not have temp files enabled, all of these links would be broken on
    preview.
    Now - if you are using root relative links, AND you have temp files enabled,
    AND you click away from the previewed document, then all of your links will
    be broken, since DW has not made that linked file into a temp file.  This is
    what you are seeing.
    So - if you want to click away on preview, then you must use document
    relative links for the site -
    <img src="../images/foo.gif"... (for example)
    These will still work on preview since the browser knows how to determine
    the current file's location and how to follow that path.
    Make sense?

  • Synching has resulted in exclamation marks beside most of my i-tunes songs

    After buying some new songs on i-tunes I then synched with my i-phone. There was some problem with the synch so I agreed to some message that mentioned erasing stuff (!!) Since doing that I have most of my songs on my iphone but virtually all the songs in my i-tunes library have an exclamation mark beside them and when I try to play them I get a message saying' the song could not be used because the file cannot be located'.  It gives the option of locating it but when I click on that it takes me to a folder that only has the new songs I purchased today.
    I figure I need to get the songs that are on my i-phone back onto my computer i-tunes folder but I'm nervous about doing anything else that may muck things up even more - any advice?

  • VIMEO share has inexplicable "black holes" (missing video)

    Anyone else have this problem:
    I just finished a simple project. The project had no abnormal video (no funky formats, I've used this type of footage before, and it was all optimized) and there were no hitches during editing or playback. (And it's not a large project--just under 2 mins.)
    Then, I shared a project (to my desktop) following some Vimeo specs that I created.
    Just before posting to Vimeo, I did a quality check and  layed back the compressed file and... a (:04) black hole randomly appeared at one point in the piece. One entire shot. I went back to the video in the timeline and isolated it. Nothing seemed strange as I played it, nor in the inspector. (And it was not unlike ANY other shot in the timeline, same codec, etc...
    I shared the project again. (Again to my Vimeo specs.)
    THIS TIME... the original "hole" was gone, but another appeared toward the end of the piece. Again, I went back to my timeline to look at the missing shot... and, once again, it was fine.
    I shared the project a THIRD time via my "Vimeo specs," and... that SECOND hole had healed itself, but  a black hole appeard in the original location of my first attempt at sharing.
    Agh!
    So, I just did a full-rez (Master file-defalut) share of the project... and IT'S FINE! No holes. So, I completed a two-stage proces to compress THAT file for Vimeo. And all is well.
    So, it seems, the hitches (black holes) appear when I go to share straight from my timeline to a compressed file.
    Has anyone else had this phenonmenon?
    Has anyone found an answer?

    how about if you just export to quicktime movie locally? Do you see the black frame then? You can also export to quicktime and select h264 as the output format, then you should be able to upload that file to vimeo. Extra step but the share to vimeo might be buggy.
    Another thing to try is to delete all your render files (both event and project). Let things re-render and try the share to vimeo again.

  • Adobe dreamweaver cs6 has stopped

    Hi,
    I'm using Adobe dreamweaver cs6 trial. I open any file, then click View Code. The program is not responding. The error message "Adobe Dreamweaver cs6 stopped" and the program has closed.
    I have reinstalled. It crashes DW to close again.
    I'm running on Windows 7 x64 sp1 ultimate, cpu corei7 q2630 ,ram8gb ,nvidia gt540m
    Thank,
    Paul.

    I am having this same problem trying to edit a wordpress php template ... I have gone into DW prefs and turned OFF (both either unchecked, or checked and in drop down 'disabled'); and it appears in CODE VIEW trying to edit the single.php template, DW hangs when opening ("not responding" error in Windows frame for app). I am running the full cloud license version of CS6 V12 bulid 5808, Win7/64, Core i7, 32GB RAM, SSD OS and WD velociraptor. It does appear to be a bug, as I never had this isssue with editing wordpress php files since 2005.   This needs to be addressed in an update ASAP. I can edit in Textpad in 20 sec., it takes 5 minutes to deal with couple of copy-paste items in WD, which is annoying since I just paid full upgrade from CS5 to CS6 cloud; and uninstalled DW/CS5.5. ARGH.
    Each time an edit is made there is a short buffer effect, as if the program is trying to do something. I first noticed this when trying to save something and the * stayed in file name, like it was thinking about the doc before letting me save. But today, it became a big problem with one file, as EVERY TIME I make an edit, it either immediately times out, or I can type in a couple of words ... then ... wait ... freeze ... wait ..... wait .... wait .... okay works again. Phone home making text edits? Very frustrating. Can't use DW to update my site today due to this bug.
    It does appear that any php file with code that references javascript .,.. mine has calls to (1) addthis button, (2) twitter.com/share and (3) facebook (//connect.facebook.net) elements .... but hey... this is CODE view, why try to connect to those items in code view when trying to edit TEXT ?
    BUG. BUG. BUG. Please fix. Make DW CS6 have complete *unhook* option from any "go out and look for stuff on web/net" ... options in DW6 panel obviously do NOT work in build 5808.
    THANK YOU!!!

  • TX synching has changed color coding in OUtloook

    For ten days i've used live chat, forums, etc. and finally may have corrected synching problem with Cobalt v. 5 t/x and Outlook 2003 Calendar; but during the process, the Outlook Calendar has been altered to have blue as the default "available' color code for all day, every singel day.  Palm calls it a 3rd party issue and won't solve it; though their equipment and software caused it.  any ideas on how to correct the color coding on outlook to the default white?  thanks
    Post relates to: Palm TX

    pdoyle,
    If you installed Palm desktop 6.2, the color coding of the calendar is not supported.
    If you want the color coding option, you will need to clean uninstall Palm desktop and install a previous version other than 6.2.
    The palm desktop and hotsync manager versions will be different.
    Here are the clean uninstall instructions for XP.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    If you have the data intact on the TX, do not be concerned about the previous step.
    For Palm desktop 6.2, look in the following location for the folders and files, my documents, PalmOS desktop. You will find the username folder in this location.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
    from your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
    you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If your data is on the TX, do not sync at this time and complete the install. After the install is complete, set the conduits in hotsync manager to handheld overwrites desktop and sync.

  • How do you create a part that has two through holes with a single net connecting to both.

    I attempted to create a part that contained 2 through holes with a copper strip between them so they would connect to a single net, but one of the holes (pin 2) gets rejected by Ultiboard as an unconnected entitiy. Is there a way to define the second hole (pin 2) in such a way as to mitigate the problem?
    Thanks, Tod
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

     Hi
    It is quite simple to do so:
    when making the footprint, you just put your two TH pins where you need them. name them 1 and 2.
    Then in Multisim, when making a new component with the component wizzard,in step 2 make a 1-pin component, and select your desired footprint(which has two pins).
    thenin step 3, make/choose your 1-pin symbol.
    In step 5 you can map the footprint to the symbol , just use both footprint pins for the same symbol pin.
    When using it in your schematic, you'll see one pin, in the layout, there will be two pins connected together..
    Good luck
    stressed user..

    Issue:
    My Dreamweaver (CS 5.5) icon has a no entry sign on it and I get an error when trying to launch the application. When I log in as another user Dreamweaver works fine. This leads me to believe the issue is with my user account but how could I determine the exact cause of the fault. My Photoshop works fine, I have checked and Dreamweaver and Photoshop both have the same permissions. I have also tried re-installing and fixing drive permissions
    Setup:
    iMac 3.1Ghz Intel core i3 8Gb RAM and a 250Gb hard drive
    Mac OS 10.8.2
    Adobe CS5.5 (Dreamweaver v11.5.1.5366)
    Failing account is a network admin account
    Working account is a local admin account
    Any help would be greatly appreciated

    You get that error when you try to run PowerPC code on Intel machine without Rosetta. Obviously CS5.5 isn't PowerPC based, the possible reason is your Launch Service database is corrupt. If so, the command to reset the database is:
    lsregister -kill -seed
