Dreamweaver Template/Styles help needed

Okay, hello everyone, I could use some help. I'm stuck after
lots of attempts. I am working on a new website using Dreamweaver.
I have read most of 1,100-page DW Bible, but reading and
implementing properly are two different things.
I have 90% of my template file done. It has a header and
footer and inbetween the content will site between two side colums
(the left side will contain the nav bar and the right sidde misc
info). My issue is in getting the three sections (left-column,
center content, right-column) to have the same height so the
bottoms line up.
The issue is that each page varies in length based on the
amount of content. Absolute seems to work, but I must be able to
edit it from within each page individually. Here is the difficulty
I'm having.
I'm trying to setup my main page as a template so changes to
items like the navbar get updated automatically throughout the
webpages. Since the navbar sits within the left column (which
contains CSS style codes such as border width, float, etc.) and
I've gone in and chosen an editable area within that column, it
makes everything else uneditable (like you'd want for a template
page).
But it also makes it impossible to edit that one height
property. My main goal is to have the left center and right areas
all lined up at the bottom and to be able to make changes to the
master navbar and have it change all pages.
Should I be looking to accomplish this another way?

There is no non-javascript way to do this. Google "faux
columns" for a nice
workaround.

I'm worried that you don't quite understand how templates
work when you say
this. It's on the child pages where you want the navigation
to be
uneditable.

Dreamweaver and PHP Help Needed!

If there is anyone out there who can help, I am working with

members. That first page I need to change as soon as possible for
over 40,000 members. All the members will see the same home page
inside the members area. You're welcome to login as "makaiman",
password is "1143mak" to see the first page that comes inside the
members area I need to change just a little. PHP is installed on a
remote server running on Windows. I need help or guidance on this
immediately but I have to sleep right now as it is 1130pm pacific
and need to have this done by sometime tomorrow morning. I
appreciate all of your help so very much... any advice would be so
much appreciated...

Problem with dreamweaver template please help!!

I need to update the navigation links of a website, which has about 30 pages, and they all use a master.dtw template file, I did not create the website, somebody else did, what i did was downloaded it to my computer from the server, which includes the master.dtw file, the problem is that when I finish downloading the website, dreamweaver does not recognize the master.dtw as a template, if i modify the template file and save it, it wont update all the webpages that it is using the template, what I do is I go to the assets tab, right click, and press update site, it updates all pages, but I loose the styling in most pages, I have been trying different things and nothing seems to work, is there anything I can do to easily update the website from the template file without loosing the styling?

If you provide a code of your template or better a link where people can see your template then you will get a helpful reply here. You have to understand that without the code, people would be chasing a wild goose!

TabBar Style Help needed

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to style a tab bar such that the
selected tab will have text of a different color than the
unselected tabs.
Imagine 4 tabs. 3 are very light gray with black text. 1 is
selected and it is dark blue with white text.
I've been all over the documentation and I just can't figure
out how to do this.
Here's what I tried that didn't work:

Dreamweaver Patch Download - Help Needed

Greetings - I desperately need to download the Dreamweaver
8.0.2 Updater to resolve the IE issues with active content,
rollovers, etc but can't get the download to work. I have tried RUN
as well as SAVE and get either get a message saying something is
wrong with the file and I need to try again OR I get problems with
no signatures on the download.

I'm on XP with MSIE 7.0 (Friendly tip--if you didn't download

Some people use a special application to manage their
downloads and some
times it is these that can cause an issue downloading from
certain servers.
Some examples of these manager would be like Download Studio,
Internet
Download Manager, or even AmazingDownload. If you are not
using something
like this then never mind.
Have you cleared your browser's history and cache? I remember
reading on
these forums (think it may have been Murray) to try that and
it did work for
some. I may also be out of it right now and don't know what I
am talking
about. Recovering from some Diabetic related health issues.

Dreamweaver Connections Folder Help Needed

I am working on Mac OS 10.4, Dreamweaver 8, PHP 4.1+ and
MySQL. I can get my database connection to work if I have it
directly in the PHP code but if I try to do it using the
Dreamweaver interface - the connection doesn't work. My testing
server and remote server all test ok on the connections. I believe
the problem is where the Connections folder is located but it
appears Dreamweaver only accepts it at the top level and the way my
hosting company configures their domains, it doesn't see the
connections folder and it doesn't work. I need to get it to work as
I want to use the Dreamweaver interface. I've searched every help
forum and tried many suggestions with no luck - anybody run into
the same problem?

Approval Templates' terms - help needed

Greetings, all!
           I'm having troubles understanding the approval template terms (Modules->Administration->Approval Procedures->Approval templates:: Approval Templates setup form->Terms tab->Terms grid).
           I think I know what the 'Total Document' and "Discount %" terms are but the rest are a haze to me.
           Could anyone tell me how these are evaluated against a sales order for example.
           Any help will be appreciated

It would help..If you could be more specific on which other ones you need to understand
Generally as the terms are worded..
Deviation from Credit Limit - If you have the Credit limit defined in the BP Master, it would validate against it
Deviation from Commitment - same as above about against Commitment limit
Gross Profit % - Document level Gross Profit would be validated
Discount % - Document level Discount would be validated
Deviation from Budget - This is when you use Budgets and if the Document causes an deviation from budget for that period...

GREP/nested styles: Help needed

Hi there,
I loved GREP and nested styles from the moment I figured out what it was. But sadly I am not very good at building structures, and I can't find a GREP manual for my needs (I'd need it in German). So my skills are very, very basic, but usually I get along. Now I have a task that goes far beyond, and after one and a half very frustrating days of testing and fiddling around I figure that am stuck. I hope that anyone can help.
So this is the task: I have an Excel file, 11 columns and hundreds of lines. Those will have to go in a "list of publications" of a scientific book.
The columns are tabstop separated:
Author1 Author2 Author3 Author4 Author5 Text Title Journal Volume Page Year
The result will have to look like this:
Author1, Author2, Author3, Author4, and Author5, Text,
Title
Journal <blank> Volume, Page <blank> (Year)
So I have to insert commas, the word "and", (probably soft) linebreaks, blanks, and brackets. "Title" needs to be in italics, while "Volume" needs to be bold. The problem is that I get text corrections all the time, and the excel file gets longer and longer every day. In addition to that, some columns, like "Author4" and "Author5", and mostly "Text" are often, but not always, empty.
Is there a way to change the tabstop separated Excel lines into what it has to look like more or less automatically (or at least in just a few simple steps)?

I'd have saved the excel file as a Comma Delimited File
Then all your text would be converted from
Author 1
Author2
Author3
Author4
Title etc.
to
Author1, Author 2, Author3, Author4, Title etc.
Then it would have been a matter of finding a determined amount of commas to a point and inserting a soft return
and so on.
If that makes sense?

Creating a GREP style Help Needed

I would like to set-up a style using GREP expression(s) that would do the following:
Everything preceding an em dash (including the em dash and two spaces after the em dash) would be set to bold-italic, AND everything in the paragraph that begins with the word "NOTE:" until the end of the paragraph would be regular-italic.
Here is a sample of the kind of text I want to format with one style:
OPERATOR PANEL - The operator panel is located on the right-hand electrical enclosure. NOTE: Not all equipment will have the same operator panel. Refer to schematics for additional information.
"OPERATOR PANEL - " would be all bold (or bold italic). The body text is regular. the "NOTE: Not all .... " to the end would be regular-italic.
Any help or direction to a web-site with examples would be appreciated.

It's easier than you think.
Peter's suggestion of a regular nesting style might work, except that it's
i always
applied to each paragraph you apply it to. That's just what the Grep styles are for:
i conditional
stuff.
The 1st half: Apply Style: Bolded To Text: ^.*? ~=
(there should be another space after the '=')
The 2nd half: Apply Style: Italicized To Text: NOTE:.*$
These are both pretty much basic GREP expressions -- except for the "~=", that's Adobe's --, so just about any google to a GREP repository can explain them. I already knew the basics, but
this page taught me some new tricks.

GREP styles help needed!

I want to make an email address italic in a paragraph using grep styles.
Each email is different, so i want want to identify each email by the @ sign. How do I make the whole email address change to the required style when each one has a different name?
Any help appreciated.

The basics are pretty easy to grasp:
\<\w[-\w_\.]+\w@\w[-_\w\.]+\w\>
will mark all 'word characters' (a-z, digits), at-sign, word characters again. Some email addresses may contain "weird" (not really standard) characters -- just add these inbetween the square brackets. I added the hyphen and the underscore as examples. (Additionally, the hyphen is "special" inside square brackets, meant for a range, as in "a-z". Always insert it first to remove this magical property!)
Notice the word delimiters \< and \> left and right, forcing all to be one single entry; if you see an entire email address that does not appear marked, it must contain some 'invalid' character.

Need Help Reslicing Photoshop Site Layout to Update Dreamweaver Template

I created a website in adobe photoshop cs3 and sliced it up
to created an html file with sliced images. My main navigation menu
is made up of graphics.
I brought it into dreamweaver and created editable regions,
created rollovers etc. Then I created a dreamweaver template from
that to create the rest of the web pages for my site.
The client has come back to me and wants to add more menu
options to the site. This is where I'm stuck! When I use photoshop
to make more menu slices, it renumbers them. How do I export the
new slices with the new layout so I can use them to update my
dreamweaver template. How can I get those new slices/html layout to
the dreamweaver template without losing all the work I have done on
my current dreamweaver template?

The slicing is not the problem. It's the export as HTML that
is the
problem. And you'd have to ask Adobe that question if you
want an answer.

Unfortunately, the
only way to avoid this mess is to learn enough HTML/CSS that
you can build
your own tables in DW, and do it in such a way that you don't
rely on
merging and splitting cells (which is what generates those
colspan and
rowspan attributes).
Again, unfortunately, you are REALLY stuck in a bad
situation. Since you
have a) used a completely graphic menu button array, and b)
used a graphic
background behind the menu buttons, and c) chosen to embed
that graphic
background in each sliced button, you cannot add new buttons
without
remaking the entire menu. You will only make that mistake
once. I never
start building menus until I have an approved site plan in
hand. By the
way, that's a nice looking layout.
I don't see any clear path to salvation here. Since you are
absolutely tied
to PS for exporting the HTML and slices, you will have to
recreate
everything, I believe.

Help needed - creating site in dreamweaver with swfs

I am attempting to make a website in dreamweaver, with
animated swf files for the banner and buttons. My problem is with
the sizes.
I want to get all of the buttons next to each other, with
little or no gaps.
I've tried making a table and putting each button in a
different column, but there are still massive gaps.
The other problem is to do with the web browser, I think.
I want it to be like most sites, if the user dosent have the
page full screen, the banner and buttons will resize so that the
user can see all of the site, normally until you have squashed the
browser halfway.
For example, when you drag the corners of a swf file while it
is playing, the image resizes so you can see the whole of it, no
matter how small you make the application.
I want my imported swf file in dreamweaver to resize if the
user does not have the web browser full size.
For example, if you have your browser in windowed mode now,
drag the sides so that the application is squashed, you can still
see the post and the banner, it resizes automatically.

Please be aware that this is the first time I have attempted

Dreamweaver template declaration affects Google Map loading

My Dreamweaver Template declaration statement

is preventing a Google Map from loading. It works fine in IE and Firefox, but not in Safari and Chrome. The weird thing is, if I move it above the following declaration is works fine.

Dreamweaver inserts and locks this code so the only way I get it to work is to either detach it from the template completely or edit the code in a text editor before upload. I need a different fix. I'm hoping that there is actually other code in my page that is leading to the declaration problem although it seems unlikly.

The problem has been solved. It seems that Google Chrome and Safari do not entirely ignore comment tags such as Dreamweaver's template declaration.
In my "lazy load" Google Map code taken from a Google employee suggestion

there is this line of code
document.documentElement.firstChild.appendChild(script);
As I understand it Chrome and Safari may read the Dreamweaver template comment

as the first.Child and therefore results in invalid html causing an error and no loading of the script.
This was solved by the help of folks at this post:

Essentially the code above needs to be modified so that it reads from the head section rather than from above it. To fix this, replace the above code with either one of the following lines:

How to add Dynamic .php content to a Dreamweaver Template

OS: Windows 7
DW Version: CS5
PHP: XAMP Local Server
I hope someone can help. I have created a Dreamweaver Template for .php and created 5 child pages of this template. Everything is in working order as far as that is concerned. Here is my problem:
I want to add some dynamic data (some categories) from a MySQL database to a nonEditable section of the main template so that it will flow to the 5 child pages. I can create a connection to the database with no problem, but when I go to insert a recordset into the template, it asks me to set up the "site", "document type" and "testing server" which I have already done. I am pretty sure that this is because it is looking at the .dwt file type and saying that it needs to be a dynamic document like .php. I have tried going through those steps, but then it just ends up renaming my .dwt file to .php and then it is no longer a template. I do not know why I cannot add dynamic data to a dreamweaver template. It seems like it should be a no-brainer, but it just isn't working out for me. In my research, I did locate the following

Thanks that worked! Although I will have to re-create my child pages and re-link my style sheets and scripts. But that will not be too difficult as I have not yet added any content to them and is a very small price to pay for the answer to my bigger problem. What is a bit quirky is that I did try to create a test .php template but when I saved it, DW did not automatically add the .php to the end after .dwt. but rather just named it test.php. I didn't think to just rename it since I had read that it would add it automatically so I thought I was doing something wrong.
Maybe there are settings in the preferences that will fix this. None-the-less, I can now move forward with my development thanks to your timely response. I really appreciate it.
