Dreamweaver templates dialogue box

I work with several sites and take advantage of Dreamweaver's template management.
Mostly it's great, but there's one extremely frustrating problem that I hoped would be addressed for the last three DW versions or so:
When I'm dealing with sites that have a lot of templates and their nested templates, the template dialogue box is not sufficient. I waste minutes trying to find any given template because:
a) you can't resize the dialogue box, so you can only view about 6 or 7 templates at a time, which doesn't cut it on large websites.
b) they are in no comprehensible order - not alphabetical, not in the order in which they were created - it almost seems random
Here's the box I'm talking about. I get it by going to Modify->Templates->Apply Template to Page:
I've been working with DW for years but I don't know it all, so maybe I'm missing an easier way to do this.
Is there perhaps a way that I can apply templates and/or view the template hierarchy without having to use the extremely small and archaic dialogue box, or can I edit a file or registry entry to address this?
Thanks!

Hi Murray,
Thanks for the feedback!  I'll elaborate to give you an idea of where I'm coming from.
I'm forced to use nested templates in order to help make department or section-specific changes to an Intranet website of thousands of pages without having to scan and/or re-write all of the files. This also helps out a lot with our content management system if I want 30+ content developers to be able to change their pages without compromising the integrity of their particular department or section's designs, which falls ultimately under the root template of the site, but with certain repeated sub-elements and/or aspects that are department or section-specific. Each section might have tens of pages where a change to the section might be repetitive if not controlled via a nested template.
Much of this is accomplished via scripting, but my content developers don't know html/scripting so there are some elements that I need to be 'flat' so that they are able to do their jobs without the interaction of my team.
That being said, I'm sure there's definitely some room for your suggestion of re-working the approach - by now there are some outdated templates as the site has evolved, but getting the site down to only a few templates is, at this time, not an option for my situation given the number of people who need to work on the site and the granularity of access control that I've been charged with maintaining / delegating.
You mentioned that later versions of DW have significantly altered this whole approach - can you briefly elaborate on this (you've peaked my interest)? I'm using DW CS4 10.0 build 4117 for Windows.
Thanks for any further insight you can provide!

  • Opening logic with template dialogue box

    Is this possible, i think i had this done before (although i might be thinking of Nuendo) I basically want a dialogue opening asking me which template i want to start a project on or open existing project. At the moment i just have the autosong opening up, how can i change this, even if it just didn't open anything i think it would be better for what i'm currently doing.

    Has anyone of you guys used Cubase before?
    I think all your answers are different to what the man is asking for
    Cubase has a template dialogue box when logic 1st launches, right before any autoload
    and this template dialogue box gives you a chance to open something like 24 track or 16 midi or mastering etc
    Logic has that, thats cool, but that happens after it loads the autoload or the default song, then you have to click new to open the template dialogue box
    it'll be nice if we hard another choice where the template dialogue box will open well before anything so we can choose what we need logic to open

  • Weird fonts in dialogue boxes

    I would be grateful if somebody could tell me why these funky fonts are showing up in my Dreamweaver CC dialogue boxes.  I've never seen this before CC and I've been using DW for lots of years It's driving me crazy and I can't imagine that Adobe did this.  I think it has something to do with my computer? I'd be very happy if somebody could tell me how to make it stop
    Thank you in advance...here is a screen shot of what I'm seeing: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/18843334/funkytype.png

    Star Trek LOL...it DOES look like a Star Trek font.  I have no idea why that font would have been on here but I'm sad to say that I've not done any font maintence in like 7 years! I went through all the fonts and never located that font so I couldn't delete it.  I sure would have though because I really don't like that font.  I will try rebooting my system beause I don't think I've done that since I installed CC...maybe it will sort itself out since I did go in and clean up my fonts and resolve duplicates, etc... Maybe that will fix it after a reboot.  Puzzling that I couldn't find that font though
    Update: I could not find the font in the Font Book HOWEVER I did find it in Suitcase Fusion and it was called "Battlefield".  I deleted it and that did indeed fix the problem

  • When I try to install extensions into Dreamweaver CC, I get the following dialogue box in the Extens

    When I try to install extensions into Dreamweaver CC, I get the following dialogue box in the Extension Manager CC:
    "Failed to update database. The extension will not be installed."
    What may the problem be?

    Good day to all,
    The problem that we were having was caused by a case difference between two folders, like Carl pointed out. The line that created the issue was written like this:
    <file source="File1.htm" destination="$dreamweaver/Configuration/Shared/MyExtensions"  />
    <file source="File2.htm" destination="$dreamweaver/Configuration/Shared/myExtensions"  />
    The correct folder was with an upper case ("MyExtensions").
    The extensions are now installing correctly however it seems to take significantly longer to install than on previous versions of EM (even previous version of EM CC). Has anyone been experiencing the same long install time? This only happens on Windows OS. On Mac the extension is installed pretty fast.
    Any idea how I could lower the install time? We do have a long list of files. Maybe try to use only folders instead of individual files?
    Cheers,
    Andrei

  • Dreamweaver templates not updating on second installation

    I have just purchased the new Dreamweaver CS5.5.  I installed it on my laptop first and it is working fine.  However the package is not working correctly on my husband's laptop.  He is finding that the templates are not updating the files despite going through the process. I am the 'techie' in our partnership and I did make sure both installations were identical.
    Updates we are trying to make are outside of the editable regions.
    It has taken me years to get him to accept an update for this programme, and now it doesn't work for him, he is not well pleased at me spending hundreds of pounds, when the Dreamweaver MX2004 worked well for him.
    Please can someone point me in the right direction to put this right.
    Jean

    We are not working on the same templates.  In our partnership, I build the templates and then turn them over to my husband to input the content.  The particular problem we are incurring at the moment is on a fully functioning website.  We noticed that on changeover from Dreamweaver MX2004 to CS5.5, the css file wasn't being read, the difference being:
    from  <link type="text/css" media="all" rel="stylesheet" href="/styles/style.css" />
    to <link type="text/css" media="all" rel="stylesheet" href="../styles/style.css" />
    don't really understand this, but having updated the template, the dialogue box came up asking if you want to update all files connected to template, said ok, and the finish dialogue box says 211 files updated.  But when you open the file it hasn't actually updated at all.
    Website looks ok online now as he has went back to MX2004 to upload a new page.

  • Save as dialogue box freezes

    Hi
    I have dw cc and several other apps cc2014.
    I have noticed that when I do file->save as in Dw then the dialogue box hangs for maybe a minute or two and then is populated with the existing files. The next time its virtually instant.
    How can I stop this annoying pause first time round?
    Thanks

    Have you tried any of the general "catch-all" troubleshooting steps yet, like clearing the program cache or restoring preferences?

  • Can we customize the Save As dialogue box in Acrobat DC?

    I was wondering if there is already a way we can customize the new DC Save As dialogue box.
    I would love to be able to open directly to "Choose a Different Folder" without going through this extra dialogue box (I understand the appeal of it, but it's not optimal for my workflow). Or perhaps, if I could customize the options under "Storage" (e.g. adding our own database folders "Posters", "Documents", etc, or maybe just pulling the "Favorites" folders from Windows explorer)
    I get the decision to have document cloud and creative cloud as default options. That's great for sharing and collaborating on documents, but I'm just managing too many documents and too large of a database. In my situation it's just, well, sub-optimal.
    I'm on Windows 7 running Adobe CC Group.

    OMG, I've been having this same exact thought since the first time I went to do a Save As ever since upgrading to Acrobat DC.
    (Mac OS X Yosemite here.)
    I find it so ridiculous to have to go through this extra step with every single "Save As."
    Example:
    1. Open our job ticket template PDF (for billing a project), which is in a "Company Templates" folder on my computer.
    2. Fill in the details/time for that project.
    3. Select "Save As" to save the job ticket to my project folder (different location).
    4. Have to click "Save to a different folder" every single time.
    "Save As" is nearly always going to be for saving a new version of a file to a different location, so I don't understand why there is now this extra step. It's just unnecessary IMO.
    So, to quote Will Riker: "Yes. Absolutely. I do indeed concur... wholeheartedly!"

  • Flash banner in a Dreamweaver Template

    Hi all,
    I am using one of the provided Dreamweaver Templates (CSS).
    All is fine, except that for some reason it does not like Flash
    imports. I can alter the template as much as I like and it will
    always successfully change across the site, BUT if I try to insert
    a Flash movie/banner into the template - then it does not appear of
    ANY of the site files. The only way I can see the flash banner, is
    if I open the template.php file in a browser - then you can see
    that it is in fact there and working - but for some reason the
    other pages refuse to acknolwegde it. Images / Tables / Text - all
    work fine - just not flash banners. I even tried saving the banner
    as a JPG file in Flash, then sticking the JPG file in the template
    where the banner should - and it worked perfectly, but as a .swf
    extension it fails.
    Am I missing something?
    Nathan

    > BUT if I try to insert a Flash movie/banner into the
    template - then it
    > does not appear of ANY of the site files.
    Because of the active content .js fix, when you insert a .swf
    file into a
    template, you must use a Site Root relative path for it.
    Open the .dwt template file.
    Double-click on the .swf in design view- the "browse to file"
    dialog box
    should come up showing the currently selected file.
    look in the bottom of that dialog box for the pulldown to
    change from
    document relative path to site root relative path. Change it
    to site root.
    click okay and save the file, and let changes propagate.
    does it show in the child files now?
    [note- It may still not show during local preview because
    site root relative
    paths in javascript will not make any sense during local
    preview- they
    should work fine on the remote host if the site has it's own
    domain name
    though]

  • DreamWeaver Template change not updating children webpages?

    Hi Group,
    Sorry for my newbie question here.
    I loaded an HTML webpage, and saved it out as a DreamWeaver Template file.
    I then created webpages from the template file (( File - New - Page From Template - Site - Template), and made sure that the "Update Page when Template Changes" check box was selected/checked.
    I then created several chldren webpages, and saved them as .html files.
    I decided to change the navbar system - part of the uneditiabel region in the template - by opening the template file and edit-ing that file, and then saving it as the same DreamWeaver template file.
    However, the webpages did Not Update to reflect the navbar changes in the template fle !??!???
    Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    I believe it is something that I'm doing incorrectly with DreamWeaver ..
    Here is the HTML if anyone is interested.

    Additional Info:
    No -I haven't been able to get the DW Template feature to work on other sites - this is my first application of it to a website (actually it's the whole reason for getting DreamWeaver... I know it works, I know that I'm doing something wrong.. I just don't know what it is...)
    All the .HTML files (index.html, cad.html, cam.html, etc. etc.)  are in the website's root directory.
    The Template file is in its own sub-directory folder named "Templates".
    Right now even the .css file is in the root directory....
    Thank You for trying to help me -  I greatly appreciate it.

  • Jquery customizing dialogue box for validations messages,

    Hi everyone,
    I create a new template label with this script:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $('#errdialog').find('ul').append($('<li/>',{text:'#ERROR_MESSAGE#'}));
    </script>
    I'm using this function to create a
    dialogue box on my apex application:
    Page HTML header
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $(function(){
    if($('#errdialog').find('li').length>0){
    $('#errdialog').dialog({
    modal:true,resizable:false,
    buttons:{"Ok":function(){$(this).dialog("close")}}
    </script>
    And this html code in Page Header Text:
    <div id="errdialog" title="Validation Error !" style="display:none"><ul/></div>
    What I would like to do is to customize this dialogue box.
    For instance in my app the box background it's gray, it's text are black,
    and the upper banner it's a darker gray. I would like to be able to change
    it all and put a html button as an ok to close the box.

    Thanks, Scott for the material, the problem is
    that I know very little about html css and jquery,

    I've already look into the documentation, but I can't
    modify my dialog box.
    Can you give me a example how to customize the dialog box?

  • Site definition dialogue box CS5 categories will not expand to offer menu options

  • Dreamweaver template to reformat data

    I'm trying to do the following task.
    Write an ezine issue in text format, then applying a
    template, convert it to an html format.
    I'm doing this because I publish a weekly ezine that must go
    out in both formats and was hoping to develop a way to expedite
    this.
    Here's what I've tried:
    - Created an ezine template for the html version with
    editable regions for each section defined by individual table rows.
    - Created a text version which is basically a clean html file
    without any tables consisting of a servies of editable regions that
    correlate to the ones above. I was hoping to apply the above
    template to this one to covert to the html format.
    - The problem shows up during application of new template
    when a location is requested for the body data, which ofcourse is
    the content of the whole document. Selecting one region plops all
    the data into that region.
    So, is there a way to map content from editable regions in
    one document to corresponding regions in another?
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    <p>This is a test</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    I have a template page with this in the body -
    <p>Lorem ipsum ...snip... Cras orci. </p>
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="EditRegion1" -->
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
    <p>Curabitur ... snip ... In eget mauris. </p>
    <p>Proin sit amet ... snip... Donec orci. </p>
    I apply the template to the page, and place body into
    EditRegion1, and head
    Nowhere. That seems to work for me.
