Dreamweaver to be CSS-based by default?

Does anyone know if Adobe plans on having a new version of
Dreamweaver to be CSS based by default. I heard the new Web
Expression by Microsoft is to be totally CSS design.

The person who wrote that had not only no understanding of
CSS but also none
of DW. So far, I have found nothing in EW regarding CSS that
cannot also be
done just as easily in DW.

  • I need help finding a workable web program that is not CSS based.  I tried IWeb and it just won't work for me.  Way too limiting.  I've been using a 12 year old copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver, but the new Dreamweaver is CSS

    Been building web pages for nearly 20 years, starting with GoLive.  Went to Dreamweaver about 12 years ago, the Macromedia version.  Tried going to iWeb when it came with a new Mac, but found it way too limiting with it's CSS template base.   Unknowlingly, I then bought a new copy of Dreamweaver.   Ooops, Adobe had bought Macromedia and Dreamweaver, too, is now CSS based, which for my money makes it useless to anyone who likes simplicity.   Now I find that even iWeb has been discontinued.  I was told yesterday that Apple doesn't have a web program any more.   At 12 years old, I just don't think it's practical to try to load my old Macromedia Dreamweaver into the new Mountain Lion (I'm getting a new Mac), though it is running, barely, in Snow Leopard.
    I need to find a web builder program that will permit simple construction of educational pages, nothing fancy, nothing artistic, just create a page, give it a color, type or drag in text, insert a table, insert pix in the table blocks, add text under the pix... done!    I should note that I am not looking to build traffic.  I teach simple things for free and people who want to learn those things (antique sewing machine repair, quilting, building longbows) find me.
    I've downloaded trial versions of half a dozen or so programs and looked at maybe 20 more, but all are either CSS based and drive me insane with requirments for constantly making rules and template models, and/or require that you base your web presence in their server.   Also, many will not work with pages built in other programs.  I maintian a volume of over 1000 web pages, many requiring regular updating, and they have been with the same server for more than 15 years.  I'm not about to change.
    So, anybody know a simple, old fashioned web builder that's happpy on a Mac platform?
    Captain Dick

    Although not supported anymore, iWeb does still function using Mountain Lion...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/mountain-lion.html
    ... and you can purchase it from Amazon.
    Start with a blank page using the Black or WHite template.
    All modern websites use CSS and there are thousands of free templates to be had if you want to use a code entry style application. You will need to go this route if you want to create a site that is viewable on mobile devices although you can create an iPhone version using iWeb...

  • How to view semantic css based layouts in design view in dreamweaver?

    Hi all,
    I havent had a lot to do with CSS based layouts (tables have alwasy just worked for me fine) but I am wondering how do I view the semantic/css based layout in design view in Dreamweaver?
    As when I write the code, in design view its not showing me what the page will look like, I have to click on "Live View" to see what the page actually looks like.
    I guess I am asking is there a way to using WYSIWYG on css layouts in design view??? Just like I do table layouts (In design view I can grab the edge of the table and resize etc)?
    Any help would be great

    Lou yeah I don't think the term WYSIWYG really applys to dreamweaver anymore when building CSS layouts.
    The term "WYSIWYG" never applied to DW.  It was never such a thing, nor was any other HTML authoring, no matter what the marketing hype said.  It's not possible to deliver wysiwyg layouts when there are so many different browsers/platforms/versions to worry about.  This is particularly true when you go back to the era when WYSIWYG was actively used (but not with DW, which was not advertised in such a way) - Netscape 4, and IE5/Mac would alone be enough to destroy any layout....
    The view you are getting in Design view is happening because your CSS is misplaced BELOW the <body> tag - it should be in the head of the page (i.e., above </head>). Your CSS should never be placed within the body of the page.

    Would this book help me learn about Spry and Ajax and how

    I am not sure. Someone please let me know so I can purchase

    You don't need any prior knowledge of Ajax or PHP, but you do
    need to
    know the basics of HTML and CSS. As I say in the
    introduction, "You
    don't need to be an expert, but you do need to have an
    inquiring mind.
    It doesn't teach the basics of web design, nor does it
    attempt to list
    every single feature in Dreamweaver CS3. There are plenty of
    other books
    to fill that gap. However, by working through this book,
    you'll gain an
    in-depth knowledge of the most important features of
    Dreamweaver."

    The book provides detailed coverage of the Spry 1.4 features
    in
    Dreamweaver CS3, which can be applied to any site. With minor
    adaptation, you can also use Spry 1.6. It's important to
    realize,
    though, that the Spry/Ajax features in Dreamweaver CS3 do
    *not* cover
    asynchronous requests to the server. The ability to
    communicate
    asynchronously with the server was added in Spry 1.6. If it's
    asynchronous server calls and responses that you're after,
    your
    programmer will need to dig around in the Spry 1.6
    documentation on the
    Adobe Labs site, and hand-code it.
    The Spry features covered in the book are Spry Effects, Spry
    UI widgets
    (menu, accordion, tabbed panels, and collapsible panels),
    Spry
    Validation Widgets, and Spry XML Data Sets.

    Yes. All the Spry techniques can be used on any web page. It
    doesn't
    need to be a PHP one.

  • Creating template areas when using CSS based layout

    Hi:
    I'm ransitioning to pure CSS based layouts. When I used tables for layouts I could select a table cell and make that an editable template region. But when I'm setting everything up in Divs, you can't "select" a div in Layout mode. Indeed, layout mode doesn't really work at all - things are shown all jumbled and you have to use Preview or open in a browser window to see how things will look. (I'm not using the grid - maybe I should?) Is there a way to select a div and make it an editable template region?
    I'm using GoLive CS2 on a Mac.
    Thanks!

    Is this affecting ALL text on that page?

  • CSS based layouts

    HTML DB's (even 2.0) layout features are based firmly on pure HTML tables. Rows and cells, rowspans/colspans. etc.
    Reading some of the bleeding edge web development sites/blogs out there, they have been proclaiming the death of HTML tables for page layout purposes for years now. CSS support is pretty well established in all major browsers, CSS standards have matured substantially over the past few years.
    What does the HTML DB development team think about adding native support for CSS-based page layouts?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    You can pretty much ,with some exceptions' create a fully XHTML/CSS based templates in HTML DB.
    The Builder will not be doing this for some time yet and some comments in your own post explains why.
    Reading some of the bleeding edge web development sites/blogs out there,I would suspect most people would want production quality not bleeding edge.
    You will notice we have removed pretty much removes all deprecated tags though.
    What follows next is a rant but it's only because I take my HTML 'VERY' seriously, been building pages since the bleeding edge browser was lynx , you have been warned.

    CSS support is 'pretty well established' in all major browsers, CSS standards have
    matured substantially over the past few years.I can't even begin to count all the different ways pretty well established does not equal looks the same in all major browsers, if you don't believe me just ask google.
    I don't like pointing at any one browser in particular (all heads look towards Redmond , Washington) but one of these browsers doesn't stack up compared to the others. It is unfortunate that it has the huge install base it does.
    examples of things that just plain suck:
    style="display:inline-table;"
    png's with transparency
    background image under links blinking bug
    caching of backgroud images
    oh and the whole box model thing
    I'm a huge fan of xhtml/css layout's but the css hacks involved, the css issues between different browsers, unless it's a demonstration of how cool you can make things with only <div> tags and css it's not worth the time and effort to get it perfect.
    You need to email Mozilla Foundation and Microsoft and complain to them once they get it right.
    I 'personally' will make it right till then LONG LIVE TABLES!!!!?

  • Seeking: Drop Down Menu Tutorial for DreamWeaver CC (Pure CSS)

    Hey all.
    I'm relatively new to Dreamweaver, and web design in general.  I took on a project to create a small-business website for my buddy.
    I'll start by saying that I've googled, and have found several copy / paste solutions, as well as several plugin-style solutions.  For various reasons, I'm not interested in other methods of creating a menu (jQuery).  Project 7, before you post (like you seem to do in EVERY thread I've read about this topic...), I may purchase your tool later, but I want to learn the process first.
    I'd like to know if anyone knows of a video or a walkthrough of how to create a CSS-only drop down menu for DreamWeaver CC.  An in-depth tutorial will help me better understand CSS and HTML in general, as well as help me navigate the changes in DreamWeaver (namely, the CSS designer).
    Any ideas?

  • CSS Based Design

    Hi All
    A client of mine is looking for a way to manage content on
    their website. I have used contribute 3 before but I have found
    that it isn't too great with CSS based websites.
    Does anyone know if the latest version of Contribute supports
    accessible CSS based websites?... float-based layouts in
    particular.
    Many thanks
    Rit

    I hate to say it, but Contribute's support for CSS is bad.
    Our organization just started offering Contribute to clients who
    have a lower budget (those who can't afford our normal, custom CMS
    tools), and we immediately noticed that Contribute's WYSIWYG
    doesn't render CSS-based layouts properly. In fact, this is an
    understatement. Some pure-CSS layouts are completely unintelligible
    in Contribute--things are all over the place. Therefore, we're
    forced to use hybrid table/css-based layouts for our
    Contribute-managed sites.
    I'm very surprised that Contribute has this issue... in this
    day-and-age of purely CSS-based layouts. Personally, I hate the
    tool (for this, and many other reasons), but alas, our clients have
    demanded it :*(

    Can you say what that's doing? "float" is not a legal value for the leftmargin style, which requires an integer value.  But its use is deprecated in favor of CSS anyhow.
    Your pasted code is lacking a doctype or anything that would normally be above that stylesheet link.  Is that just an oversight or is it really not there?

  • Filling a table in Dreamweaver with different lists based on user decisions

    Hi, I'm very new to Dreamweaver and web design as a whole, so this might seem like a far fetched idea.
    What I want to do is have a situation where a user could click one of 4 buttons, upon which a predefined list would appear, presumably populating a table. As in, there are four lists (A, B, C, and D), and clicking on the respective button would make that respective list appear in a table. I only assume that a table is the appropriate option here. Furthermore, I want the user to be able to click on an element in the appearing list to make an image appear.
    Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this? Am I on the right track with a table? I might be thinking too much in java...
    Thank you very much.

    I might be thinking too much in java...
    I believe you have confused Java with JavaScript. The two are very different, and usually when talking about web pages and interactive effects on them, it's the latter that would be relevant.
    You could do what you want most easily by building a page with all 4 tables (each containing the desired display effects already applied) explicitly coded (presumably one after the other). Each of these tables should be given a unique ID value (e.g., id="table1", id="table2", etc.) Then you would use CSS to hide all 4 tables using the style "display:none;". Then you would apply a javascript behavior to each of your buttons to change the CSS style on the table from "display:none;" to "display:block". That would make only that table appear. In addition, each of those buttons would have to set the style on the three other tables back to "display:none" to account for any table that may have been previously made visible.
    You can do this style changing using the DW behavior called "Change Property", by changing the display style on the desired table to "block", and on the other tables to "none;".
    This is a lot for a beginning user to absorb, so ask questions as you need answers. I don't think there would be any easier way to do this.

  • CSS Image Gallery - DEFAULT IMG

    Not really a DW question but as I've had no replies on the appropriate forum, I thought I'd ask you guys for some help.
    I'm using   http://www.dynamicdrive.com/style/cs...e-gallery/P30/ but am unsure how to position a default image in the space where the enlarged img goes.
    At the moment I have a large white space when none of the thumbnails are being activated.
    Many thanks for any help.

  • CSS wierds - reseting default Safari styles..

    Safari 4.0.4
    As an example, I have a cssreset.css style sheet with this setting:
    ol, ul {
    list-style-image:none;
    list-style-position:outside;
    list-style-type:none;
    the "reset" style sheet is imported as follows:
    /* Clear all default styles */
    @import url("cssreset.css");
    ..which for all other browsers becomes the base setting..
    in Safari it appears to not work, or to be over-ridden by "user agent stylesheet" with
    ul, menu, dir {
    -webkit-padding-start: 40px;
    display: block;
    list-style-type: disc; }
    Any suggestions on how to "reset" Safari's default styles...? (or get the import to work..?)
    Thanks..
    John..

    Dang, after all that I then found a post that solve most of the problems..
    Safari does not like:
    @charset "UTF-8";
    in the style sheet.. blows everything out of the water..

  • ADF &CSS :overriding the default ADF:tree icons and CSSs

    Hi,
    I have major layout issue regarding ADF:tree, how can I override the default icons?
    I override the oracle CSS with my own, but when I did that, the tree images has changed, its now small hideous triangles, I copied some lines from the oracle CSS and it worked, but the small triangles still show inside the images, how can I remove those triangles, or can I write something in my CSS to override them?
    Thanks in prior,
    Ahmad Esbita

    Ahmad,
    According to bug 5682799, you cannot work around this in the current JDeveloper release. It is fixed in 10.1.3.3 (due out "soon," perhaps as early as 15th June, according to another post on this forum)
