Dreamweaver to iWeb

I build a website with dreamweaver, now I need to know if I can hosted with iWeb.

Web developing, including templates, is similar to the English language. Proper syntax is required to render an accurate and desired result. As mentioned earlier, iWeb is a limited design application. There is not a current out-of-box method available for designing templates with the application. However, you can design one page and then duplicate the page.

  • Dreamweaver to iWeb or .Mac?

I was wondering of there was a way to upload pages I have made with Dreamweaver to iWeb or if there was a way to upload my site directly to my .mac account. Would I have to upload it to my iDisk and somehow import it from there to my .mac account?

I find Dreamweaver to be the best program I have used for web dev. If you use Photoshop CS3 you can directly import your files to Dreamweaver keeping all your layers which is nice. But as the other post suggests download the trial and try it out. Adobe has some basic tutorials that are free on their site to help get you started with the demo.

  • Using Dreamweaver and iWeb together

Can you publish a website made in Dreamweaver through iWeb?

iWeb cannot open or import html files.
You can re-create the webpages in iWeb by copy/paste text and images to the iWeb canvas.
You can also drag & drop the text. iWeb will add a texbox with the text and retains the styling of the text.
    Try it.

  • Can I use the website I created in Dreamweaver in iWeb?

    Good morning fellow Mac users,
I created my own website using Dreamweaver and I was wondering if I could use it in iWeb to publish it to Apple's server? I can't seem to find an answer for this anywhere. I would really like to use the content I have already created instead of a template that has already been created.
Also, I'm not sure if this will be an issue, but I have created a flash intro for my site as well. I would appreciate any helpful on this that any of you might have. Thank you.

Nope, you can't. You'd have to copy and paste it over manually, or rewrite/design.

  • Anyone Using Dreamweaver and iWeb together?

    Hi,
I have an existing site which was done with iWeb.
I'm now trying to replace some of the pages with pages created in Dreamweaver.
I've come up with a couple of options on how to make both tools work nicely together but, I'd like to see how others have done this.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't think many people will be doing this - you need to make the decision to use either iWeb or Dreamweaver, but not both.
When an iWeb site is imported or opened with Dreamweaver, the results won't always look the same because of the way iWeb code is created - there is lots of it.
I don't think that you'll find that many people using Dreamweaver on this forum, as it is an iWeb forum and Dreamweaver is a steep learning curve, especially if you have no html experience - that is why most people use iWeb in the first place.
    You won't find much here!

  • Dreamweaver and iweb

Hello, I have a site (small) built with dreamweaver
and I wouln't like to do it again.
Is it possible to go through iweb to publish it

If you want to host the site on .Mac, subscribe to the service and then drop your Site folder(s) into the Sites folder on the iDisk. Drop the index.html file there also. You should be able to view your site using the url:
    homepage.mac.com/yourusername

  • Dreamweaver and iWeb problems

Here's the problem. I created a web page and because I needed
to put a script in the page, I used placeholder text "BOXTEXT" so
that I would know to open the page in DW, find the word BOXTEXT and
    replace it with my script.
BUT, not only does the DW search box not find the word
BOXTEXT, it doesn't find ANY of the words in my document. I tried
changing the word BOXTEXT to AARDVARK and then searching for
AARDVARK - still it says it is not in the document.
What's the problem here? I am searching for text and not
Source Code, and this does work with other pages...
    Any advice?
I tried updating DW MX with the 6.1 updater, but it claims
not to find DW in my Applications folder... when it is actually
    there... sigh

Make sure you are in design view to search for text and in
    code view to
search for code. You may have inadvertently put your key word
    inside some
code so a text search won't find it. Switch to code view and
    search for
your word in code. Next, try the notepad solution.

  • IWeb export to Dreamweaver - looks strange in Firefox

    Hi,
I just exported an html file to Dreamweaver of a great design that I made in iWeb.
I want to keep the design and use more advanced options with dreamweaver that iWeb doesn't have.
A test with Adobe's browser lab made the design look a little screwy.
My question is: Are there any sort of guidelines for fixing the html code that iweb spits out to make it more compatible in dreamweaver and also in firefox and internet explorer?
    Thanks in advance.

iWeb creates webpages that are W3 compliant and compatible with all modern browsers. Even MSIE.
If Dreamweaver can't handle the code, it's a DW problem.
Are there any sort of guidelines for fixing the html code.
You use Dreamweaver, so I assume you are skilled and know how to edit HTML.
    If not : http://www.w3schools.com
BTW, you don't export to DW, you export to a folder. You open the html files in DW o any HTML editor of your choice.

  • Iweb vs. dreamweaver

I was wondering what exactly is the difference between a website made in iweb and a website made in dreamweaver?
I know functionality is different, for example one can't implement everything quite like one would in dreamweaver, but can a website done on iweb be every bit as popular on a search engine for example as one done on dreamweaver? what are the main draw backs, in a general sense? thx

    Chance Harper wrote:

iWeb is designed for personal websites, not commercial ones — so it lacks integrated Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Plus +"iWeb websites are not made to be search engine friendly."+ ...Read more here:

Dreamweaver has a reputation for being overly complex, so if SEO is important to you, you may want to consider simpler alternatives such as Sandvox Pro which has integrated SEO:

  • Inserting a Form Created in CoffeeCup Form Designer into iWeb...

    Hi all,
I created a web form in CoffeeCup's Flash Form creator (on my PC). The end result is 7 files and a section of code. I presume that I can insert the code as a snippet (I have version '08) but I'm unsure as to where to put the 7 associated files. In addition, this site is hosted on Go Daddy, not .Mac. Any tips on where/how in the folder architecture on my Mac to place the 7 files generated by CoffeeCup and does anyone know if there's anything funky I need to do to post this all to Go Daddy... Thanks in advance for any advice...

Yes, you can enter the Html code as a snippet, however, as far as I know you have wasted your time creating 7 pages with coffee cup as you will not be able to merge them into iWeb. Others have asked this same question and I don't think it is possible to merge web sites or pages created with other web site packages such as Dreamweaver into iWeb. You can't import in that way.
You will either need to use iWeb or coffee cup, but not both.
Use an ftp client to upload to GoDaddy. There are many - Fetch, Cyberduck or Transmit. You can do this in iWeb too.

  • I think I like this iWeb thing!!!

I just posted my new iWeb site last night. Hope its working well out there in cyberland? http://www.warrguitars.com
I just made the bold move to switch from an old version of Dreamweaver to iWeb; which probably exposes me as a "web hack" by making this switch. I like the look of my iWeb site and the ease to create Blogs and Podcasts. I did have to mess with some things such as the "menu" rollover colors which is a pain.
It seems with a few more features added, this program would be a big hit for me.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Reload iWeb project after reinstall

I reinstalled my OS, as I do frequently to optimize computer performance. However when I now try to continue working on my iWeb project I'm stuck. I've made backups of my website folder but I can't get it to reload in iweb.
Is there any way to get my old project back on track by using my backup:ed files?
Otherwise this means that EVERY time I reinstall my OS I have to rebuild my site from the top. This seems ridiculous! I have to move everything I have to Dreamweaver and STOP using iWeb, It's no point if you lose your work when you reinstall your system. Come on apple, you can do better than this, it's ridiculous.
Please please help me if you know a way around.
    /Erik

    Hello Erik,
You do not need to reinstall the OS to optimize performance !
In fact : do not do this !
Every Mac comes standard with 3 scripts to optimize your machine.
All you have to do is run them !
If you do not feel comfortable to run them yourself, there are many tools that will do the trick for you. Ex. OnyX (freeware, search on www.versiontracker.com)
If you've done an install as you did so many times before, all your files should be as they were.
If you did an install with "erase old install", then you better have a back-up on an external disk...
Using Dreamweaver over iWeb will make no difference here, they'll both be gone
Now, let's hope you have a back-up on an external disk (or an other uninfected partition on your internal drive) :
iWeb saves everything in the file "Domain.sites2" on your disk.
    The default location is : /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
Restore the file Domain.sites2 from your Back-Up and you're back in business.
    Kind regards,
    Leo
PS: just out of curiosity, where did you get the idea to reinstall the OS to improve performance ?
If you like to experiment why don't you clone your internal HD to an external HD and then boot with the external HD to experiment and boot with the internal HD for serious work?
The tool to select the boot disk is installed on every Mac : System Preferences / System / Startup Disk
There are some freeware tools to clone your internal disk to an external disk.
Do a search on versiontracker or a similar site.
Ex.: Carbon Copy Cloner will do the trick.

  • Run iWeb '06 and iWeb '08 on same startup drive

Anyone else have any experience with keeping iWeb '06 and iWeb '08 on the same startup drive, to be used independently?
My iWeb '06 is loaded with dozens (and dozens) of thirty-party templates that cannot be imported into iWeb '08 (ie 11Mystics, etc). Meantime, I have sites originally designed in iWeb '06 that are up and running that I'm responsible for updating.
I'm gradually 1-by-1 rebuilding each of these sites in DreamWeaver - but those constructed in iWeb '06 need attention from time-to-time, and I've no time to rebuild them from scratch.
Opening any of these .sites files in iWeb '08 causes major problems, I won't attempt again. And besides, that eliminates access to the older templates that allow adding in pages like Photos, Movies, Blogs, etc. And if I'm going to take the time to rebuild, I'm going to do that in Dreamweaver.
I'd love to move ahead and utilize the possibilities for new design options in iWeb '08, but the sites built in '06 need more or less constant care & feeding.
Anyone else manage to make this work successfully?
I've considered the obvious options, such as, A. Don't; or B. Boot iWeb '06 from an external startup drive - this won't work for reasons I won't outline here or C. Compress each in disk image and de-compress each time - every time I do this, the installed templates in iWeb '06 disappear.
Thanks - suggestions welcome from those who have tried this...

    Roddy -
Thanks for responding! Absolutely I agree - not for the "sane and responsible." Which lets me off the hook. I've tried the alternatives you suggested - I have quite a few Macs running here - but I do most of the heavy lifting (graphics-wise) on a G5, so that's where I'd far prefer doing web design.
I have two internal HDs and two externals, but can't get Adobe to authorize another install on the CS3 suite - and the back n forth between Photoshop, Bridge, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and iWeb is near constant.
I had set this up on the MacBook Pro but it's driven me nuts trying to get files coordinated back and forth (at this point, I have over 20 active .Domains files I'm updating and keeping track of.) I guess my main concern was understanding what happens to the com.apple.iWeb.plist in User>Library>Preferences. I don't know what else they have in common to get mucked up (other than accidentally launching the wrong app, or clicking on an older .Domains file instead of the newer app.
Pretty soon all the older sites will have been rebuilt in Dreamweaver using CSS and I can forget all about this craziness.
And now with Leopard arriving in a week this could get really interesting.
    Thanks, Roddy!

  • Can a webpage made with iweb be published only to .mac?

I need to do a webpage for a school project and get it online. My school's website has a designated page for each student, so if I make a page I can put it there permanently. The only thing is that I don't know how to use dreamweaver and iWeb looks very easy to use, but I looked up the tutorial and it only said how to publish a page to a .mac account. Is there no way to make a page with iweb but load it to a different domain name than a dot mac one?

I looked up the tutorial and it only said

You read that incorrectly. Lots of people put their iWeb pages on other servers. Here are some tips:

  • Javascript error in Safari (sequel to roll-over button problem)

Yesterday I started a thread on non-functioning roll-over buttons in Safari.
In the mean time (with the help of iBod) I founs out that the problem has got something to do with JavaScript.
The problem occurs in sites I built with FreewayPro 4.0.1
    The url's:
    www.wildeplantentuinen.nl
    www.kunst-zin.nl
The problems occur only in Safari (2.0.2 and 3.0)and not in some other browsers (even ana IE version of 2001 works great)and probably since the last Tiger Update (10.4.11)
The JavaSriptConsole gives an "Undefined Value" error for all of the non-functioning elements on a specific line.
Any Javascript-gurus around that could help me. (I am not a code-wizard at all).

    Thanks ra5ul,
That (more or less) solved the problem, . . . . . . but what is going on ?
I edited all sourcecode of numerous html-pages by hand and now they work the way they should in Safari.
But now every time I make a small change to any page, my web-building program changes the code back to the old syntax (which, again, all browsers can read except Safari).
Why does the problem only occur in Safari ?
I hate to put a line on the index-pages that Mac users should not try this website in Safari.
Problem is, I made these sites in Freeway and I don't want to upgrade that program because I switched to Dreamweaver and iWeb (for the simple ones).
    Is there a smart work-around ?
