Dreamweaver Training

Hello,
I have long been interested in Web Design/ Development and
have decided to pursue it as a career. I have developed a few
websites and have informally worked at it for years. I would now
like to take some courses to 'fill in the blanks' and further
advance my training.
I am seeking advice as to which Programs/ Courses/
Institutions etc... that offer good, relevant training. I am also
wondering if it is at all recommended to take these course via
online delivery/ distance education. I have looked into programs
through various colleges here in Canada, however, I find that I've
already taught myself a lot of the material. Are there 'online
courses' available that you would recommend?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Derek

Hi Derek,
The Sheridan program was a full school year, September to
April/May.
It was $12K when I did it in 2000.
I had attended a couple of Sheridan weekend courses in HTML
and web
graphics. I liked the instructors and the course outline for
the post
grad program.
I had an unpleasant experience with someone who was involved
with the
Humber program when I asked for information. He who shall
remain
nameless was rude and downright nasty. I decided I didn't
want to be
involved with a program where he was an instructor.
The Sheridan program has changed since I went through. Some
of it has
been significantly watered down. They pride themselves more
now on
turning out grads with "leading edge" skills - and I'm not
sure I
would hire one as a subcontractor because I'm not convinced
they know
the basics.
You're right that some of the courses might seem like a
review, no
matter what program you choose I think. Most if not all are
geared
for either new grads with no experience in the field, or
folks who
want to retrain from a different profession.
Where are you in Alberta? I'm in Edmonton. If you're going to
travel
to attend a program, did you look here? NAIT has a Digital
Interactive Media Design program, although it's two years I
think. And
Guru Digital Arts College has a 6 month Digital Media
Producer Diploma
Program.

  • Dreamweaver Training from Adobe. Any Good?

I've been doing HTML coding since 1995. Starting out with
Notepad and then Homesite and moved to Dreamweaver as soon as it
came out. I'm using MX2004 right now.
I know quite a bit about DW and use it quite a lot. But I'm
still kind of "old school" about many of it's features. In fact,
I'm more comfortable working with the code to get things to turn
    out the way I want.
I just got a big contract to do a new website for a client
and I want to use many of the "newer" features like Templates etc,
and I'm looking for the best way to train with these areas. Adobe
sells a complete training sereis on DVD for $199. Has anyone tried
it? Is it worth the money?
I'm pretty sure that Dreamweaver will do vastly more than I'm
using it for at present. So an overall training approach, but not
for total beginners sounds best to me.
    Thanks for the help

And, I recommend Dreamweaver 8: The Missing Manual, by Dave

his EXCELLENT companion book) CSS: The Missing Manual.

  • Dreamweaver 8 | Flash 8 | Fireworks 8

    Are the combinations of Dreamweaver 8 | Flash 8 | Fireworks 8
good for producing high end web pages. If not, what do you all
    recommend?
Also, should Dreamweaver be the ending program to peice all
of the different graphical and text elements together?
Or can you just build multi web pages through Flash alone?
I just finished reading Dreamweaver training book so I'm
hoping it wasn't a waste of time. I spent almost 1 week reading and
    doing all the exercises.
I did find that uploading all your files through dreamweaver
FTP was pretty easy so I would think formating all your pages using
Dreamweaver can probably be good but what do I know, im just a nOOb
    developer.

Hey, no offence taken. I too am more of an art tart than a
    code head, but
also an engineer that loves to put things together and find
    out out they
    work.
"With every book I read or CD rom I watch I get more and more
    questions."
Yup, that'll happen. It just means you are not getting
    complacent and you
want to find out more. There is nothing worse that someone
    who reads a book
then thinks they know it all. In World Of Web you just never
    stop learning -
especially as standards change and CSS develops. Keeps your
    brain working.
"cause my questions must be answered to I get the BIG
    PICTURE."
Might be a good plan. Once you get a few basic principles in
    place in your
head a lot more will become clear. I honestly wish I had had
    some proper
training and I may have advanced quicker. You can't beat
    having an expert
right there, so you can go "Sorry, just dont understand that
    bit"
Mind you, things were a bit simpler 8 years ago. I wouldn't
    want to be
    starting out now!
I'll tell you a book that really helped be back then -
    Designing Web
    Graphics by Lynda Weinmann.
At some point you are also going to want to read Eric Meyer
    cos he is the
    god of all things CSS.
    Good luck.

  • Is there no longer an official Adobe DreamWeaver Manual?

I can't seem to find an instruction manual on the product.  Are they no longer providing these?
    Thanks for any help.

Depends on what you think of as official.
There's plenty of help available but no traditional printed manual. Those disappeared many years ago.

  • Is Dreamweaver right for me? (also Question about Adobe courses)

    Hi!
    I'm a grade five student,
who is wanting to learn about
    web design and animations.
    I already have Photoshop cs5
but i want to learn about web design.
Dreamweaver is the correct program right?
I also have a question about Adobe Courses (Online)
Will they go through, and show you how to set up websites
with dreamweaver... Templates, etc. stuff like that?
    All comments appreciates.
    Thanks
    CG

I am hardy the most qualified to answer this, but I'll have a go at it. First of all, I admire your ambition!
Dreamweaver is a great tool, but it will not necessarily teach you web design. Once you have some basic idea of what goes into a web design, you will realy appreciate what DreamWeaver can do for you. I am going to pass on to you the same advice given to me when I first wanted to get into DreamWeaver and web design.
I would realy suggest some basic HTML and CSS books and use a text editor to create your first pages. Once you start to undersatnd what you are doing, then by all means, get some DreamWeaver training. Everyone has their own favorite titles to learn the basics from, so I'll just say these are a suggestion and helped me get started. The Head First series was clearly written, has a good sense of humor and helped me get the basics. Check your Libraries, second hand book stores, or other resale outlets. I know you mentioned the Adobe Online, but I've also used, and like, the Adobe Classroom in a Book series. Once I learned a particular version, I found the Missing Manual series good for advanced questions and going to a new version.
Don't get discouraged, stay with it and don't be afarid to try another book if you don't like the ones I've suggested. We all learn different ways and what worked for me may not work for you!

  • Zend_Framework and security

In Dave Power's fantastic introductory book, ADOBE Dreamweaver, Training From the Source, I got a great intro using the Zend Framework to access my database.  One issue that I'm now beginning to think about is Security and SQL injection.  I've heard that using Zend eliminates the risk of sql injection, but it would be great to have a better understanding as to why it's not an issue using the Zend Framework.  A typical query that I use in my site might look like:
    $dbRead = new Zend_Db_Adapter_Pdo_Mysql($read);
    $sql = "SELECT *
    FROM questions
    WHERE author_id = $user_id OR
    public_access = 'Yes'";
    return $read->fetchAll($sql);
where my $read has my database info.
    Thanks!

Glad you like the book, but I'm afraid you have an incorrect understanding of the Zend Framework and SQL injection. You still need to guard against SQL injection, as explained on pages 244-245.
When using a variable in a SELECT query, you need to use the quoteInto() method.
Your query should look like this:
    $sql = $dbRead->quoteInto("SELECT *
    FROM questions
    WHERE author_id = ? OR
    public_access = 'Yes'", $user_id);
This sanitizes $user_id before inserting it into the query in place of the question mark.

  • Template vs include

what is easier, or maybe I should say, what would make it easier for me while designing a site?  Build my pages from a template, or building a bunch of pages that I can include into i.e. include_once header, Navigation, footer, aside.....
I started with a template but many said it is better to include instead.  The problem for me is that I am fairly new at using Dreamweaver 2014.1 and still learning.  what would anyone suggest I start with and can modify later on for something more efficient once I have grasped the fundamentals of Dreamweaver?

I recommend experimenting with both approaches. I myself find Dreamweaver's template system to be robust and very reliable. I use it all the time on small sites. Working with includes is preferred for large sites. For this you'll want to setup your development environment: Setting up a PHP development environment for Dreamweaver | Adobe Developer Connection

  • Help - 48 hrs to complete my Flash project [not much applied experience]

I'm looking for any kind of insight or advice possible, as this could be my job at stake.
I have some previous Flash and Dreamweaver training, I can figure out the programming aspect if needed, and am a long-time experienced graphic artist with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I have the Adobe Design Premium CS4 package.
**I've been asked to complete a project by Wed, close of business for a Flash presentation...which I'm quite rusty with (taken some courses a few back and tried various aspects out with the software). I've paid for and downloaded some Flash Web Templates, hoping to save time, and wondering I might be able to use the web templates to create the following requested:
    1) a Flash presentation that can loop on a TV screen
    2) have the same Flash presentation with navigation on a DVD, but will include additional documentation that can be obtainable by clicking through the navigation, etc.
If I need to clarify, please let me know. I've been asked to complete this as I have quite a bit of experience with graphics, but seriously rusty with the Flash portion.
Any suggestions?? I'd be incredibly grateful!
    Thank you!

Your idea so great, just not sure how to go about it.
I purchased templates from www.bigbangtemplates.com and was hoping I could edit at least one of those to save time, as I haven't used actionscript, other than testing a few simple things out and have book available.  I was hoping some of the obvious navigation would already be in place and I could replace pieces, etc.
I have or can quickly create some supporing graphics for my visuals, but need to focus on a visual that show's the company, it's five or so areas of interest, some kind of narrowing in on each one with some more text, back to the menu, on to the next one, etc.  That's just a rough guess.
I also purchased some video backgrounds, if that helps for flair, without beeing cheezy. :-/
Just wondering if this is more or less a joke to be able to accomplish this and if this is going to be a task beyond the rusty beginner? If so, I think I need to just shoot myself. Thanks for the assist!

  • Dreamweaver/Flash Training?

    Hello All,
I'd really appreciate a bit of direction from some web wizards.  I'm a graphic designer starting up my own stationery design company and I have absolutely zero knowledge of Flash, Fireworks and Dreamweaver - my skills end with InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.  I want to build my own website to a) save money and b) have more control over the design and layout.  I'm not after a web show pony either - simple, clean and functional with minimal bells and whistles.
Can anyone recommend some online training in the Adobe web design suite that would be suitable for a traditional designer crossing over into web design?  Just need to start somewhere!
    Cheers!

A good place to start is right on the Adobe website. The Adobe Developer Connection has a lot of free tutorials and videos: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/.
A quick word of warning. Your background sounds as though it's mainly print and design. Working successfully with Dreamweaver requires a knowledge of HTML and CSS. Don't try to treat Dreamweaver in the same way as InDesign or Photoshop. It's not a drag-and-drop desktop publishing type of program. It's heavily oriented towards creating clean markup, and without knowledge of HTML and CSS, you'll find it an uphill struggle.

  • Train a Trainer course in dreamweaver

    Hi there,
I'm keen to take my knowledge of Adobe products further by
teaching Photoshop and dreamweaver at a proffesional level.
There are some details on the Adobe site here
    http://www.adobe.com/support/certification/aci.html
It seems i need a teaching certificate such as CompTia CTT+
Is this also valid in the uk?
I don't seem to be able to find any reference to it or
    training locations.
If not, what would be the equiavalent qualification i would
    need in the Uk?
What would be ideal would be a complete train a trainer
schedule on using dreamweaver so it was all in one package, exams,
training module, how to take students though the course etc...
instead of this disparate method it currently is.
    As usual any help appreciated.
