Dreamweaver won't open

I was using dreamweaver today when it randomly failed and I
received a "search for a solution online" or "close program"
option. Now when I try to open it again the dreamweaver window
opens up for about 2 seconds and appears to be working, but then it
disappears completely. The task manager tellsme Dreamweaver is
still running. I've tried opening it different ways, like opening
an html file with Dreamweaver, but I get the same thing. I've also
tried restoring to yesterday, but no luck. It appears to disappear
when the DW intro window says "loading site cache." Anybody run
into anything like this before or have ideas on how to fix it?
Other CS3 programs open successfully.
I'm using CS3 on a windows vista 64 bit OS
Thanks for the help

That works only if you're using an Acer computer.
Since you're using CS3, it sounds as though you might have
been caught
out by the 8,192 bug. Check the site you were last working
on, and check
for any file that is exactly 8KB (8,192 bytes) or a multiple
thereof.
Remove the file from the site, and relaunch Dreamweaver. It
should work OK.
To solve the problem with the file that causes the crash,
open it in a
text editor, and add a couple of lines. They can be blank or
contain a
short comment. All that matters is that you change the file
size so that
it's no longer an exact multiple of 8,192 bytes.

  • Dreamweaver won't open same file in two different folders.  Fix or switch to Aptana?

Same file copied between 2 folders. DW will open one but not the other.  Copied code from 'good' file to new file; saved in 'bad' folder.  DW opened the file once then the spinning wheel of death again.  All files open in Aptana, Coda, Sublime no problem.  'Bad' file was coded and FTP's previously without problem.  Was annoyance previously but not the problem is becoming acute.  'Bad' file opens on Windows7 with DW8; won't open on MAC CS6.  Tried every fix posted; still POS.

BTW - this has been a problem for years (plural).  I just had accepted that DW did this sometimes.  I write a lot of PHP so DW is not my primary software.  Couple of days ago, I was doing a customer presentation and it did it again.  MY mistake was I copies the development folder to a new folder and upload/took the approved site live.  Literally, I could navigate back to the old folder and open index.php but it would not open in the new folder.  Copied the old contents to the new folder/file, saved it, opened it and it worked fine.  This whole time I am tap dancing in front of a room full of people.  Go back to reopen the file and no go.  As my face slowly turns bright red, I navigate back to my development folder to open index.php.  Surprise, now it won't open either.  Luckily for me, I had a copy of Coda2 on my laptop, switched over and sold the job.  I mainly use DW for customers where I can split screens - use an 80" presentation screen - for convenience.  Was thinking about upgrading from CS6 but 4 and 5 had the same problems which was why I went to 6.

  • **HELP** Dreamweaver won't open files!!!!

I am in a very bad spot right now in that Dreamweaver will not open files; neither .html or .php, neither those created by me, or by others.
I am taking a class in which we must use DW to complete Lynda exercises and my DW will simply not open any files. I have even created test files in DW, saved them, tried to re-open with DW and all that happens is the application frame blinks and no open document appears.
I have a fresh, completly brand-new install of DW as of 6 days ago; all other CS6 apps in my suite work perfectly with no problem or issue whatsoever.
I've never experienced an app doing this before; re-installing, trashing the prefs do not cure the problem.
Maybe sound silly but could my copy of the CS6 downloaded installer contain a "bad" installer of DW?
Please help, if you can; out of ideas here!
    thank you in advance,

I may have found a fix: changing the files' "Open With" to Dreamweaver.
never been a problem before, but DW appears to care very much about what this is set to.
    thank you!
Actually your OS cares very much what this is set to.
I keep Firefox as my default app topen HTML files, JS, CSS, ASP, PHP all open with DW but my regular files open in the browser. I find it kkeps me from accidentally editing apage I only wanted to view if I limit my ability to open an HTML doc with DW to openingit from within DW (no double clicking an HTML file to open DW)

  • Installed Dreamweaver MX 2004 update for Windows and now Dreamweaver won't open. Help?

I was having some glitches uploading to a host I ftp to often so I decided to check for a Dreamweaver update for MX 2004.  When I found the Windows update and tried to install - it told me to uninstall Extensions. I uninstalled extensions and continued with the installation of the update.  Now Dreamwever will not open at all - it says Dreamweaver MX 2004 has stopped working.  I can see the update is installed since the version is 7.0.1.  Any ideas on how to undo the update? I have no idea where this program disk is right now for reinstallation plus all my servers are already setup....

You might try Windows System Restore to a point before you installed the update.
    Good luck.

  • Dreamweaver won't open in Firefox

    Hello all.
I am at present studying Dreamweaver at home on my Mac Pro OS10.6.8.
Part of the process of making a webpage, one has to open it through the internet.
Firefox is my choice but unfortunately when pressing F12, Firefox opens but does not open my Dreamweaver based work.
Please can anyone suggest a way around this?
I have searched online and it appears quite a few years back alot of people were experiencing the same with their (now older) versions of Firefox.
    Thanks in advance.

Preview in DW isnt really the best way to work when making a website - you can eliminate this problem by setting up your website folders a little better & just use the browser directly.
    1) make sure you "define your site" in DW - this is basically setting up a folder & keeping ALL of the website HTML files & images in that one folder. Once you define your site you can use dreamweavers SITE window you see all your files & open them for editing.
I recommend you place your project folder in your Macs SITES folder which already exists in your user folder.
Always save files/images here BEFORE you place them on a webpage.
If you dont follow this i guarantee you will get into problems later.
    2) turn on web sharing in your system prefs (under sharing) it will give you the address of your local SITES folder - such as* http://192.168.0.1/~ian * Bookmark that address in Firefox, safari etc - now you can simply use that bookmark & add on your website name to view it.
For example, if in the sites folder you have another folder called "project1" then you use the web address http://192.168.0.1/~ian/project1/page.html

  • My trial version of dreamweaver won't open... Please help as the people from customer service refuse to! :(

I downloaded a trial version of dreamweaver. It worked for a
few days, then stopped working. When I click on the desktop icon it
loads and asks me if I want to continue with my trial (29 days
left) or enter serial number. When I click continue with trial a
"Dreamweaver 8" banner comes up (indicating it is loading) then it
closes. I phoned technical support and wasn't able to get through
several times. When I finally did (after 45 minutes) the conclusion
they gave me was that THEY COULD NOT HELP ME FOR "FREE" because it
was a trial version. I really want to learn this program and would
really appreciate any help. I also checked out the dreamweaver
download trouble-shooting page and tried a few things which did not
seem to help. My computer is fairly new and has more than enough
    memory (160G or so?).
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP!

I'll try. What are your machine specs. You say 160G of
    memory? I am
assuming you mean a 160 gb hard drive. That is not memory.
    How much RAM do
you have? What operating system are you running?
Did you download the trial from the Adobe site? Do you have
    antivirus or
firewall software that might be blocking the program?

  • Dreamweaver CS5 won't open any files from a project

    Hi,
I'm working on a simple website. I work on it from 2 different locations (home and work), and the files are stored on a removable USB disk. The problem is that for some reason Dreamweaver won't open any files made on the other computer. It shows the sitemap, eveything. But when I click on a file, nothing happens.
I've tried a couple of things:
    1. recreate the site in the site manager - still the same problem
    2. remove the preference folder - still the same problem
The only solution is that I have to copy the files to my desktop, recreate the website in the sitemanager and then it works. But only if I copy the files to my desktop, any other location on my HD (not the removable USB disk) simply doesn't work.
Does anybody know why this happens? Or even better, does anybody have a tip of how to workaround this problem?
    thanks!

The D600 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and later - not CS5 unfortunately.

  • Dreamweaver MX won't open mac 10.4.8

I just installed dreamweaver mx (education version) and the
hotfix and dreamweaver bounces in my dock for a moment, then a
splash screen shows up for a second then disappears and dreamweaver
won't open. The other applications in the MX suite (flash,
    fireworks, etc) open just fine.
If i have the hotfix and have uninstalled and reinstalled,
are there any other ways to fix this?
I should also mention I am using a macbook pro.

Michael, my guess is that you've installed a third party utility to modify the OS in some way, and it's broken. We've seen, for example, people who installed utilities that were supposed to improve network operation unable to get reliable network connections as a result.
There's a utility that can remove unnecessary components from the OS. Unless used with caution, it can kill Rosetta.
Haxies can break after an OS update. That's not Apple's fault, and it's a reason I don't install haxies such as Shape Shifter, for example.
Does this happen with other PPC applications that have to run under Rosetta?
What to do: If you've installed third party utilities that modify OS functions, remove them one at a time and restart. Try Entourage after each restart.
BTW I don't suspect smcFanControl as the culprit.

Hi, pmajor. Welcome to the Adobe user-to-user forums!
I noticed that your error report indicates that you are using build 4909 of Dreamweaver CS5, which is the release version. There have been some updates since, so I would suggest that you install the latest, 11.0.4 (build 4993), and then see if the problem persists.
You can get the latest update by going to Help > Updates in Dreamweaver, or by downloading it from the following page and then installing it: http://adobe.ly/DWUpdates

  • Jpegs won't open in Dreamweaver cs4 or Dreamweaver 8

I was using dreamweaver 8 just fine and then all of a sudden my newly created jpegs won't transfer to dreamweaver.  They won't open no matter what program I create the jpeg in.  The old ones that are saved on my desktop or image folders will still open in Dreamweaver.  I tried downloading cs4 and I have the same problem, except it makes the image file name a link when I try to drop it in on the page.  Also, when I go to insert image, the preview box shows nothing.  I'm on windows vista.
Any help would be great, I called support and it got me no where.

On Vista, Right Click on your desktop's DW shortcut icon and select Run as Administrator.  You should only need to do this once.
Also, make sure your JPEGS are saved for the web as RGB -- not CMYK.
