Dreamweaver & Wordpress?

I'm having trouble using Dreamweaver to edit the .php files for my Wordpress site at http://dontpanik.tv without losing a lot of the formatting from my custom theme.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Mark

  • Dreamweaver/WordPress Help!!!

    hello everyone,
I am new to this forum as to Dreamweaver as well!
So, if my question seems a bit dumb for some of you I would appreciate your forgiveness and understanding...! :+)
I am actually doing a project for university that needs to be submitted in a CD/DVD format at the end of the year. It is a blog in wordpress.
Everything is installed locally in a Mac with Mamp application to be used in a local host(my computer). It was also online(live Blog) and registered as part of a website till the person who owns the rights for the website forgot to pay and re-register the website name! Everything was shut down and i lost the rights to use my blog with that particular website.
The problem i have now: The guys from university can't check the blog online directly anymore! So, they need to install it locally in one of the machine to evaluate my work when i submit it.They use Dreamweaver CS4!
To make sure It is going to work 100 % for them, i would like to install it locally in my iMac with dreamweaver CS4 and check if what they see is what i am providing without anything missing files and everything works as if the blog was live!!!  And I don't know really how to do it?! I tried few things but nothings seems to work...!
Thank you so much for all the help.
    Cheers.

The testing server appears to be setup incorrectly.  Specifically I'm looking at:
    \phptest/wp-load.php
You should verify the paths for the server folder as well as the web URL.

  • Dreamweaver, Wordpress   Google Analytics

Hey, I'm using Dreamweaver and Wordpress for a site and have added the Google Analytics code to each page within wordpress, but my analytics aren't working properly. I'm getting some stats, but they don't seem to be correct. Should I be adding the code in Dreamweaver too? Any thoughts?

Using the WordPress plug-in is the correct way to add Google Analytics code to a WordPress site.
There aren't "pages" to add anything to, per se, with DW. Once the WP site is up and running, your pages are all created on the fly by pulling info from your database.
Unless you fully understand the ins and outs of PHP, opening WordPress include files and making changes in DW can be pretty daunting.

  • Dreamweaver / wordpress  errors

    HI there
I have been setting up the wordpress / dreamweaver via the following link
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_wordpress_pt2.html
Everything works find until I got to the point where it suggests setting up a test site - I had already done this under phptest originally - now I get the following error when trying to live view the site:
    NOT FOUND
The requested URL /phptest/wp-content/themes/MyTheme/index.php was not found on the server?
should I have set up another test and by doing so do I populate it as I did to set up the local site???
My wordpress site is located directly in the htdocs folder (no wordpress folder)
I also get a message: the root folder you have chosen contains the folder for php test site this may cause some operations such as  synchronisation to work incorrectly  - so should I have deleted the phptest folder???  or should I have placed the wordpress files into their own sub fodler so: htdocs/wordpress/wp-admin etc
Can you advise on this please

    No Not correctly.
However I googled the error message and I now realise what I was doing wrong.  In the tutorial it tells you to go and set up a testing server.  So by following this to the letter, your setting up a separate folder - with wordpress it seems according to this tutorial on youtube http:/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxxy3NsDspo
It doesnt do that.  You set up your site and then setup the test server linked to your made folder where the wordpress is, rather than creating a folder in the wordpress called test or similar - this seems to be workign now
Oh I thought you had set up the testing folder (phptest) That's probably the first thing you need to do when installing Wordpress. Nothing will work otherwise, Wordpress relies on server language/database to pull all the files together.

  • Dreamweaver WordPress Compatibility

I have a client that needs a website created that will have the usual web pages as well as an events/calendar page and an interactive blog with a comment posting section. They want it designed in word press because after it is complete they are going to train in word press so they can update the site themselves in the future. I only know dreamweaver and my question is this:
Can I create it in Dreamweaver then give them the files and have it be totally compatible with word press once they get it? In other words when (and if they can) pop the files into word press everything will work and look perfect and they will be able to sucessfully take it from there doing the updates themselves with word press? Or does it have to be created in word press from the start.
    Thanks,
    Paul W.

not taking anything away from word press, its a great blogging tool... but it's not really a cms.  with that said, if you hack apart anything enough, you can make it cms like.
Can you "pop the files into word press everything will work and look perfect"... NO.  word press is another one of those open source solutions that require you build the website around their solution, rather than add it to what you've already done. You will need to create and modify word press html/css files in code view to achieve the look/feel of the website, and download plugins to gain the functionality they will want... and using word press, your clients can fubar your design.  are there people using word press successfully as a cms... yes... but it's not what it's designed to do.
I would encourage you to tell your clients to use something that can be added to an existing design, like incontext from adobe, or cushy cms, or similar.  It's a css triggered cms which makes it incredibly easy to work with, and flexible as well.  If you're a more advanced coder, you can also create your own cms... after all, it's just update server behaviors and database driven content... it's really that basic.

  • Dreamweaver (wordpress) testing

Is there a way to make my dreamweaver use the creative cloud to host my test files? I would like to do away with Xampp. Is there a process to make all this easier using the cloud as a host?

  • New to Dreamweaver, Use dreamweaver to make a wordpress theme?

So im going to start this off by saying Im very new to all of this, web design and html language.
I am planning on setting up a blog/forum type website for a hobby of mine and decided I should start learning the ins and outs of the language first, of course.
I was going to use wordpress originally but I just didnt find it to have the level of customizability I needed but when it comes to dreamweaver i just dont have the expertise to do what i want. If i could combine these two then Id be set. So far in my 1 day of using dream weaver ive figured it out to the point where I have a fairly general layout of what i want the site to look like. Header, body, spacing etc.
Could I turn this into a wordpress theme? is that possible?
Then I could use this layout but wordpress would provide the rigorous blog set up necessities (handling posts and such) which I have no idea how to even get into.
Please forgive my ignorance, Im at the level where I can space my header create 3 working links and link them to other pages ive set up.
    Thank you for any help/insight

There are lots of tutorials out there that teach you how to do this. But one that I'd highly recommend comes from Lynda.com (at a price) that is worth every penny.
    Here it is: http://www.lynda.com/Dreamweaver-tutorials/Dreamweaver-WordPress-Building-Themes/89310-2.h tml

  • What is the Design to Deployment Workflow using DW with WordPress?

I am a Designer and Developer/programmer. This is a complete workflow question: What is the Design to Deployment Workflow using DW with WordPress? For example, is it:
PS/IL > DW > WP? (Photoshop or Illustrator, Dreamweaver, WordPress?)
Or is Edge Reflow inserted between PS and DW?
    PS > ER > DW > WP?
Are these workflows iterative and, whats the word, recursive - we are able to go back and forth?
My understanding is that the Edge tools are not up to the coding standards of DW, and ER > DW (Edge Reflow to Dreamweaver) is not seamless or even practical.
Where does the Stack come in? MAMP (or LAMP/WAMP) of course, jQuery/jQuery UI, WordPress and other items; how integrated are these things?
I used to be a Flex developer and quite comfortable with the Design to Dynamic Deployment workflow of Illustrator or Photoshop to Flash Catalyst to Flash Builder; moreover, I thought the Eclipse IDE was excellent with its database introspection capabiliities, debugging etc. Adobe really pushed this workflow, then instead of innovating and standing behind its own product with 98% market penetration, Adobe disembowelled Flash right before everyones eyes.
What about Prototyping, which is certainly part of the process? Fireworks is on the kibosh. Illustrator, while excelling at some aspects falls short of making a functional prototype (unless you're tying in Acrobat to link the pages), and while Photoshop is Edge Reflows darling, Edge seems redundant with DW and spits out twacky code.
(Muse of course is unusable for professional developers, but it makes you wonder why some of those UI elements where not employed in DW whose interface seems antiquated by comparison).
It seems Adobe is bloody all over the place, more like a rabbing drunk with a microphone rather than the dependable go-to software company for creatives the world over.
In my opinion, workflow from beginning to end is important. Having a million different options to try to accomodate everyone is not. Some guidance in this department is greatly appreciated!
    Best,
    Dylan

I have not used Edge Reflow myself.  Nor do I espically like WordPress.  But my typical workflow is:
PS for Design Concept and web images.
DW for CSS, HTML & JavaScript.
3rd party editors like Zend Studio & Navicat for PHP & MySql development.

  • Confused With Dreamweaver CC and the CSS Styles Panel!

    Hi all
I'm relativley new to the CC but I'm having alot of fun learning how to use dreamweaver, But now comes where I get confused. I'm learning from Lynda.com "Dreamweaver and WordPres Core Concepts" and as I follow the tutorial regarding the actual structure of wordpress themes I have different panels to the tutour.
As you can see from the pics I have a different set up and this makes it very hard to follow the tutour.
I have tried the windows menu but there is no CSS Style Panel, plus I have media, sources, selectors, and properties. Apparently the tutour is also usin CC.
Can someone please guide me on how to learn dreamweaver with up to date tutourials....

I'm not familiar with the Dreamweaver/WordPress videos on lynda.com, but if the tutorials are showing the CSS Styles panel, it means that it was recorded on Dreamweaver CS6 or earlier.
The CSS Designer panel replaces the old CSS Styles panel in DW CC. Since you have access to lynda.com, I suggest that you take a look at James Williamson's CSS Designer overview in Dreamweaver CC Essential Training.

  • Is Dreamweaver the best tool for creating a review site with user ratings/reviews? CMS?

    Hello everyone,
I am really wanting to develop an online gaming review website and have some Dreamweaver/Wordpress/CMS questions i am hoping you can all help me with, thank you in advance for your patience as i am new to site development.
I am thinking of creating a review site which will involve me writing about 100 online gaming reviews, and then getting users to upload their comments/feedback, etc. Each of the reviews would be updated monthly with stats, performance, and other details. Each review would contain a text review, video review, and various images and screenshots. Integrating user-generated content will be a big factor.
I am trying to de-confuse myself with all the prep work around making sure i have the right tools and technology i need to be successful. Many people tell me i should use Wordpress due to the nature of my site, or at least a combination of Wordpress and Dreamweaver - not sure how that would work exactly. I dont want to be too dependant on just Wordpress because i want to be sure my site can be customized and i grow and enable more advanted value for my site visitors. ...i would love to have a members only area at some point in the near future.
Please see below for some questions running through my head:
    1. Do i need a seperate CMS tool? ...and which may be best considering the nature of my site?
    2. Should i use Wordpress instead? ...or a combination of Wordpress and Dreamweaver? - why should i use a combination of the two?
    3. SEO is a major factor - does that make a difference?
    4. My reviews will need to be updated monthly, so i will try to maximize the use of templates, etc. Do i need to create a dynamic site in Dreamweaver or will a CMS manage that?
    5. Which options are best to avoid as much as manual coding as possible
Thank for you taking the time to read this, ...any tips/guideance would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Harps

Short answer: You don't need Dreamweaver.  Simply install WordPress on your server and use it to build your site & add/edit content.

  • GetDynamicContent, JavaScript error occured. CS5

I start dreamweaver CS5 and soon after working I get the following error.
"While executing getDynamicContent in AddressURL.htm, a JavaScript error occurred."
I click ok and it goes away for a short time. After that it pops up repeatly and I cannot get it to stop.
How do I take care of this?
I recently got the Lynda.com Dreamweaver & Wordpress Video Tutorial.
My excitment soon faded after loading WordPress onto a site.
This error is inhibiting me from working in dreamweaver all together.

Most likely the problem will be solved by removing your user Configuration folder and restarting DW as described in the first entry there.

  • Downloading and editing an existing WordPress site in Dreamweaver CS5.

Hello! New to the forums, here.
I'll try to be brief. I've got a WordPress site in-place at metalmeter.com that is hosted through HostGator. Basically, what I'm looking to do is get the site from the remote server and edit it in Dreamweaver CS5, previewing all changes on a local testing server before putting the updated contents back on the remote server.
Now, let me be clear: I've tried plenty of the tutorials. I've watched hours of videos. I still can't get it configured properly. I've got the FTP connection to the remote server running smoothly. I've got XAMPP installed. I'm having difficulties (and I apologize for being vague), and I just don't know where the problem is located. In my htdocs folder for XAMPP, I've got two subfolders 'metalmeter' for the remote server's downloaded contents, and 'wordpress' for the wordpress installation that every page seems to be pointing me toward. What confuses me is that when I try and open the uppermost index.php file on the remote server, the dynamically discovered content is not being displayed in the live view with my local testing server. I want to be viewing my existing WordPress site in its entirety exactly as I see it online while I'm editing it, and then pushing back updated files to the /public_html/ root directory of the remote server so that I can edit the site from my local client. I'm extremely new to Dreamweaver, so any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
If you know how to do exactly what I'm trying to do and have been successfully viewing and editing your existing WordPress site in Dreamweaver for upload, please take some time to explain the set-up. I'd be forever in your debt!

I've been following this discussion for a while now and I don't understand why you hope to edit articles from DW.  That's what the WP Admin panel is specifically designed for.  Besides, you won't find your articles in any of the site files because they don't exist there.
I agree I don't see any reason to want to edit a Wordpress site in Dreamweaver. If you are using Wordpress then you may as well put Dreamweaver in the bin. Although people do actually want to edit and manipulate the design in Dreamweaver (including myself) and from what I've read its possible but I've never found a source which explains fully how to achieve this and those that I have it seems too much effort to even bother about.
I guess the Dreamweaver environment feels more like home and is more user friendly.
To put it another way, a typical WordPress installation contains around 800 files in some 80 folders.  Those files don't contain any content, just a whole lot of PHP code.   In fact, the only page most people ever see on your site is the index.php page which is dynamically created over & over by the server with content from the MySql and various include files.
For sure and that's why people who use Dreamweaver and feel the need to manipulate a Wordpress site in Dreamweaver because Wordpress is 'in vogue' get lost. Wordpress just containes a lot of pages with nothing to see apart from some php, many of who will not understand one jot.
Unless you're a coding guru, you should definitely NOT touch any of the core WP files as this could cripple your site.  If you want to customize your Theme, look at the CSS and include files in your Themes folder.   See Anatomy of a WordPress Theme:http://yoast.com/wordpress-theme-anatomy/
    lol your not wrong there!
For a quick tip on Theming, open your remote site in Firefox equipped with the 'Web Developer Toolbar'.  Edit CSS on screen.  Save changes to your local site and upload it to the remote server.  No testing server required.
Wordpress is Wordpress and Dreamweaver is Dreameaver. As far as I can make out the two don't mix.
Ideally you would just choose a Wordpress theme which most relates to the nice site you have designed in Fireworks of which you won't find any however goodthe themes are. Then manipulate the themes css that's if you can understand it. Even for a seasoned css expert its heavy going because everyone produces css differently to achieve the same results.
Leave Wordpress well anlone unles you're going to use it out of the box so to speak or as a web-developer don't mind a bit of reverse engineering.

  • How do I embed a Dreamweaver interactive image with rollover hotspots into a Wordpress post?

    Hey guys,
I've made an image in dreamweaver will roll-over hotspots very much like this one: http://hypebeast.com/2014/6/essentials-kent-kilroe
I'd now like to embed it into a post on my website in Wordpress.
My website is not hosted locally on my computer, so I would somehow need to paste the code of the image into the HTML section of a new post on Wordpress, whilst uploading the photos to my hosting website and changing the img src links that are in the code to the new ones from my hosting.
I did all of this and it still didn't work. Could any of you tell me where I am going wrong. The code is below if that helps at all:

I don't think WordPress allows that kind of code in posts.  If you try to add all that, WP will likely filter it out.  My advice is to find a WP plugin that supports tooltips on image maps.

  • How do I edit a WordPress site in Dreamweaver?

I found a pretty good article on how to install WordPress to a localhost and run a site made locally on a test server through Dreamweaver (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_wordpress_pt1.html), but it leaves a lot unanswered. Like...
    1. Okay, now I've built a WordPress site locally, how do I upload it to my webserver?
(When I upload it to my ftp, it's broken. I suspect that this is because the scripting is set to work on my localhost MySQL & phpMyAdmin and not my webserver's)
    2. If I already have a WordPress site up on my webserver, can I download it to my localhost server so I can edit in Dreamweaver and my local machine, and then upload it later to my webserver?
Thank you everyone! Your help is highly appreciated!

i am only new at dreamweaver...however, i have spent quite some time with Wordpress and Joomla website building.
Plese note... In an effort to explain my thoughts (which if left in their original state...only make sense to me really) i use the term "articles" below very loosely as Wordpress is not just a blogg platform anymore.
The two platforms serve different purposes. Wordpress is a publishing platform...Dreamweaver is a design program. Dreamweaver on its own, would be a very slow and cumbersome way of publishing articles on a Wordpress site. Dreamweaver on its own, is oriented towards creating the entire Wordpress CMS itself...not the "dynamic content" that goes on the Wordpress Site (dynamic meaning published information that is regularly being added/edited/deleted) .
What you really should be asking is, "how can i edit/develop Wordpress themes in Dreamweaver?" Now that, Dreamweaver can do.
Just slightly off topic, have you thought about building your websites using Adobe Muse instead. Its much faster and a lot simpler to use than dreamweaver and a great drag and drop design interface! Almost no coding required. You wold not be using Wordpress of course, and the content isnt dynamic, but Muse is soooo easy to build sites with!
Could i make a suggestion that i myself have undertaken...Purchase a monthly Adobe Creative Cloud plan(to get access to a heap of Adobe CC programs) + $39US/month Lynda.com tutorial package.
Even if you just use the lynda training for a single month only (you only pay by the month as you go)...you will learn an enormous amount about the Dreamweaver, Muse, Wordpress...and a huge number of other programs.
Best money i have spent in Info Tech in a long time
    kind regards

  • Issue with dreamweaver and PHP on WordPress theme

    Hi all
Im trying to create a WordPress theme for my blog, however I keep getting this issue (CS6) "Dynamically-related files cannot be discovered because a testing server is not defined"
I have been through my preferences and set everything how I think it should be set..
    anyone have any ideas?

To work with dynamic sites like WordPress, you need a local testing server.
