Dreamweaver Write To CSS

HI, Does any one know if Dreamweaver can dump it's styles
into a linked css vs in the documents....
Example:
I've been working on this site for a while... I have a linked
css and all of a sudden I highlight some text and set a color, font
face and size through the dreamweaver UI instead of code. I notice
that dreamweaver has created a standard class (style12) but instead
of dumping it into my linked css file it drops it into the document
on the page... This is a bit annoying every time dreamweaver does
this and I work on a different page... I have to copy and past the
class into my css. Can you tell dreamweaver to write directly to
the linked css???
Thanks for your help
~Matt

You must refrain from doing it that way.

  • Dreamweaver to be CSS-based by default?

Does anyone know if Adobe plans on having a new version of
Dreamweaver to be CSS based by default. I heard the new Web
Expression by Microsoft is to be totally CSS design.

The person who wrote that had not only no understanding of
    CSS but also none
of DW. So far, I have found nothing in EW regarding CSS that
    cannot also be
done just as easily in DW.

  • Seeking: Drop Down Menu Tutorial for DreamWeaver CC (Pure CSS)

    Hey all.
I'm relatively new to Dreamweaver, and web design in general.  I took on a project to create a small-business website for my buddy.
I'll start by saying that I've googled, and have found several copy / paste solutions, as well as several plugin-style solutions.  For various reasons, I'm not interested in other methods of creating a menu (jQuery).  Project 7, before you post (like you seem to do in EVERY thread I've read about this topic...), I may purchase your tool later, but I want to learn the process first.
I'd like to know if anyone knows of a video or a walkthrough of how to create a CSS-only drop down menu for DreamWeaver CC.  An in-depth tutorial will help me better understand CSS and HTML in general, as well as help me navigate the changes in DreamWeaver (namely, the CSS designer).
    Any ideas?

Would this book help me learn about Spry and Ajax and how

You don't need any prior knowledge of Ajax or PHP, but you do
    need to
know the basics of HTML and CSS. As I say in the
    introduction, "You
don't need to be an expert, but you do need to have an
    inquiring mind.
It doesn't teach the basics of web design, nor does it
    attempt to list
every single feature in Dreamweaver CS3. There are plenty of
    other books
to fill that gap. However, by working through this book,
    you'll gain an
in-depth knowledge of the most important features of
    Dreamweaver."

    e-commerce sites, right?
The book provides detailed coverage of the Spry 1.4 features
    in
Dreamweaver CS3, which can be applied to any site. With minor
adaptation, you can also use Spry 1.6. It's important to
    realize,
though, that the Spry/Ajax features in Dreamweaver CS3 do
    *not* cover
asynchronous requests to the server. The ability to
    communicate
asynchronously with the server was added in Spry 1.6. If it's
asynchronous server calls and responses that you're after,
    your
programmer will need to dig around in the Spry 1.6
    documentation on the
Adobe Labs site, and hand-code it.
The Spry features covered in the book are Spry Effects, Spry
    UI widgets
(menu, accordion, tabbed panels, and collapsible panels),
    Spry
Validation Widgets, and Spry XML Data Sets.

Yes. All the Spry techniques can be used on any web page. It
    doesn't
need to be a PHP one.

  • Tables in Dreamweaver or only CSS? Some tables OK?

The last time I used DW to build a site it was 2004 and it
was tables, tables, tables. Now I'm getting up to speed with DW CS3
and my techie internet marketing brother tells me "NO tables now-
it's all about the CSS!" So I'm learning CSS, and the lynda H.O.T.
training Dreamweaver basics tutorial starts showing me how to build
    my site--with tables!
How do tables figure in your sites- out or in? Thanks!

I use tables for tabular data. I sometimes use tables for
    forms, sometimes
not, depending on the layout. I might use a single, simple
    table where I
need a small multi-column construct within a div (Maybe I
    want to break a
long list into 2-3 columns to save vertical space).
Generally, I find layouts far easier and more flexible using
    CSS-P with divs
as my primary container, once you get used to it, that is.
    There is a
learning curve but I think it's well worth it.
What's important is to actually understand CSS, not just be
    familiar with
the code. You have to understand how changing even a single
    declaration will
affect other page elements. Sometimes trial & error is
    your best learning
tool. Start with simple stuff and progress from there.
BTW I use TopStyle Pro for all my CSS editing. DW's CSS
    editing has
(apparently) improved a lot in recent versions but I still
    prefer TS.

  • Dreamweaver cs4 and css

I was using Dreamweaver MX2004 befor and now am trying to use Dreamweaver CS4. and not very familiar with it
    My question is:
Is there is a parameter or option that I hsve to set in the Dreamweaver preferences so that I can modify attributes
to text without having to create a CSS rule?  Because actualy, everytime I want to modify the appearance of text I am asked to create a new CSS
    Tank you for your attention
    Bert

I'm afraid that you will have to tough this one out and learn some CSS.  There is no way to retrograde DWCS4 so that it works like a version that is 4 years older.
Once you spend a few minutes on this task, you'll wonder what all the angst was about.  It's really very simple.  And you will have to get beyond the old (and BAD) habit of styling your content using the Property inspector....

  • Dreamweaver: cannot find CSS Designer

I need some help. I am trying to find the tab or panel that allows me to use the CSS Designer. I try to follow the videos that Adobe posts on learning how to use Dreamweaver, but it doesn't help a lot cause i can never find any of the buttons the videos are using. Espcially now, I cannot find the tool to allow to edit using CSS. I need some help here.

Go to Window > CSS Designer or hit Shift + F11 to open the CSS Designer.
If those don't bring it up, you're likely using a version that is older than the addition of the CSS Designer (DWCS6 or earlier).
Go to Help > About Dreamweaver to check your version.
If you do have CC or later and only get the old CSS Panel when you go to that menu or hit the shortcut, it would mean you need to hit Ctrl + Alt + Shift + P to switch the CSS Panel to the Designer.

  • Stop Dreamweaver loading scripts/CSS files included in a page

Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 (Mac OS X 10.10, Yosemite) has a big BUG... isn't possibile build with it large/complex websites.
If I have a website with large numbers of css files (or scripts), Dreamweaver takes too much time to load/save a page that included them (the wheel turns indefinitely).
Is it possible to stop Dreamweaver from loading scripts and CSS files included in a page while I'm working on it (even temporarily)?
I know that without this function (load external files) Dreamweaver is absolutely useless, but at the moment I haven't still found another IDE tool and I need to work with speed.

  • Dreamweaver stops rendering CSS

Fairly frequently as I am editing pages in a Dreamweaver
document the program stops rendering using my css stylesheet. If I
preview (F12) in Firefox the page renders fine. If I save the file
then close and reload Dreamweaver and reload the page I was working
    on everything works fine again.
Has anyone see this and eliminated the problem?

When you see it stop rendering, check VIEW | Style Rendering,
    and make sure
    it's enabled.
That said, I have never seen a post from someone with these
    symptoms
    occurring intermittantly as you describe.

  • Dreamweaver hates my css media type

    quote:
    <style type="text/css" media="screen">
    @import "/stylesheets/layout.css"; /* Hide from NN4 */
    </style>
    <link href="/stylesheets/print.css" rel="stylesheet"
    type="text/css" media="print" />
Does not display in Dreamweaver (Rending Mode is set to
Screen), but works in every browser and validates.
Dreamweaver reacts better to invalid code:
    quote:
    <style type="text/css" media="screen,print">
    @import "/stylesheets/layout.css"; /* Hide from NN4 */
    </style>
My only idea is that it sees the invalid media type and
assumes a media="all". What does Dreamweaver want? I also tried not
using the @import method and using <link> tags for both
screen and print. Anyone have any experience w/ this?

Interesting that Eric Meyer says this (and only this) -
    @import url(...) <media>;
where media is "A comma separated list of target media. This

and he further gives this as an example (of the @media

    Hi there
I am having a slight problem with DW which I have had before, and fixed, but I cant for the life of me remember how I fixed it.  So any help is much appreciated.
I am producing a proof site for a client and cannot load it to be live just yet so sorry for any inconvience but I have taken some screen shots and will paste code/html.
The site is currently sitting like this  in the design view of DW

Which it usually doesnt.... its usually centred within the design view!!

    "<body leftmargin="float">"
Can you say what that's doing? "float" is not a legal value for the leftmargin style, which requires an integer value.  But its use is deprecated in favor of CSS anyhow.
Your pasted code is lacking a doctype or anything that would normally be above that stylesheet link.  Is that just an oversight or is it really not there?

  • Dreamweaver Functions using CSS

I'm just learning about CSS, as I'm developing a site and I
    have two questions.
I created a simple form with a text box and submit button,
both of which are positioned using CSS. The red form indicator box
is shown way at the top of the page where it sits in the code. This
is the only way I can get the tag to "wrap" both div tags. Will
    this cause any problems?
Also, my header and footer contain a good amount of div tags
for CSS positioning. What do I need to do to save all the items in
each together as a library item? Is this possible? How do I select
    all the various elements?
    Thanks,
    Brad

Not good. Sounds like a potentially case of "divitis".
    Publish the page and
post a link to it here so we can dissect your code.

  • Dreamweaver cs6 View CSS

as the title says i am having a problem with CSS pages in DWcs6
i don't know how to enable it (the split and the design buttons are greyed out)
    any hints?

CSS files contain text only instructions for formatting HTML tags.
There is no Design or Split View for CSS files since there's nothing to see other than text.
Open a HTML or PHP file which is linked to the CSS and you can then see the effects of the CSS on the web page.

  • Help-New to Dreamweaver CS3 and CSS-background

I have struggled more with learning DW and style
sheets than I ever thought I would. So if you will be patient, I am
going to try to ask one question at a time until I can actually get
    something accomplished.
First, I would like my website to have a centered container
style. An example of a website would be:
    http://www.ortussearch.com/
I would like my center container to extend to the bottom of
the page. I have a small background gif that I would like to tile
for the center container and then use a solid color for the areas
outside of the container. When I was on another site, they gave me
the HTML code but I am not advanced enough to know how to use that.
At this time, I have used my background gif by clicking
background on the "page properties" in the property inspector and
it looks fine but it covers the entire page. Is there no way I can
size this to about 700 pixels in width using the page properties?
    Thanks for any help.
    DD

I should mention that the css previously won't center the
    #wrapper on
the page. If you want it centered, then you'll need to add
    this in the
    #wrapper definition:
    margin: 0 auto;
In the <body> of your document, you'll begin like this:
    <div id="wrapper">
    The other stuff goes here.
    </div>
It's advised to use additional divs or containers. So you
    might make
your next container #content or #masthead or whatever else
    you may want.
Play around with it and see what you get. These forums are a
    fantastic
resource - you might want to also do some reading up on CSS
    and HTML
    here:
