Dreamweaver4 Hangs at Splash Screen on First Use

I recently moved to a new computer with 10 terabytes of hard
drive space and 4 gigs of ram running winXP2 w/sp2.
The computer itself is a generic HP Workstation XW4200 with
an old ATI FireGL graphics card - fairly vanilla.
I installed Dreamweaver4 (yes, DW4 is old but I know it's
quirks and limitations well and
I got the "educational version" free at school so call me
cheap, but anyway..)
then tried to start it up for the first time.
Just past the registration screen it hung at the splash
screen for a loooooooooooooooonnng time (over 15 minutes) and I
figured it was permanently locked up so I shut it down, rebooted,
and tried again with the same result.
I uninstalled and re-installed the program, same result.
I figured maybe something in Windows was conflicting so I
took an hour to do a reinstall of a totally clean version of winxp
sp2 (with nothing else installed).
After installing Dreamweaver 4 for the third time it still
hung indefinitely.
Finally I started googling around and found an obscure
reference on a Linux forum about installing DW4 under wine and
having it hang on initial startup while scanning all drives and/or
looking for Internet Explorer.
So I booted up WinXP in Safe Mode, and set the compatibility
properties to run in Win98 compatibility mode, and tried starting
up dreamweaver.exe yet again.
The cursor goes into hourglass mode for 10 seconds as the
splash screen is displayed, then returns to a normal cursor except
when passing directly over the splashscreen.
Out of curiosity I started a small notepad window and dragged
it momentarily in front of the dreamweaver splash screen window and
when I moved it outside the splash screen window the image of the
notepad window remained --meaning the splash screen was too busy
doing something else to allow a window refresh.
This lead me to focus on a very busily flashing led light
signaling activity for my hard drive array.
It was very busy blinking away even though I shut down
notepad and nothing else was running except dreamweaver (I even
checked Task Manger to make sure no process/thread that involved
the hard drive...like a search indexing..was happening --but
dreamweaver was the only thing banging away at my RAID collection
of internal hard drives).
So I decided to let it run while I watched a TV show and 47
MINUTES later the rest of dreamweaver finally surfaced!!
Was it searching for Internet Explorer?
..or maybe indexing drives/directories for the Site
Manager..who knows?!
But after saving an initial default site and restarting,
dreamweaver took less than 15 seconds to load after that.
To all those running Dreamweaver 4 under WinXP with
multi-terabyte raid collections be warned!
I doubt Adobe will issue a patch around this issue at this
late date but I know I'm not the only one still running DW4 and
after searching for hours in Google I found little or no
documentation for this particular issue so let this thread be it .

Now then Joshua Weeman,
it appears you have fallen foul of one of the first rules: "Never buy top of the line hardware". Get the middle range and your'e in tried and tested territory. Same goes for software. FCP 2 is a beta to all intents and purposes, Color is a fresh port of Final Touch, and again, is a beta program. Spending loads of money on gear does not mean you will get flawless workflow, it just means you spent a huge wad. You can not, in all reasonableness, blindly believe the claims of vendors, even the fine folks at Cupertino ['send to' commands anyone?], they all tell fibs. All software has it's dark nasty little secrets, look up Captain Mench and his fine tutorials to find out more. With the system you have right now you are sorted for years of fun, time to start reading the manuals and the small print, All the information you need is within ten feet of where you are sitting and these fine forums contain anything that isn't.

Premiere Pro CC hangs on splash screen  "loading ExporterQuicktimeHost.bundle"
This happened before when I had CS6. I'm now using CC and haven't had problems until now. I again get the hang up while loading. Previously I trashed the loading ExporterQuicktimeHost.bundle file and this solved the problem.
I tried to contact support. I thought my subscription to CC included support, apparently not.
    Anyone else have this Problem?
    Brian

    Thanks for the response Kevin.
    I tried repairing permissions.
I recently installed OSX 10.8.4 but I've been succesfully using PP since then. PP is up to date v7.0.1
I have read the other forum posts on this.
Again, this problem cropped up using PP CS6, but I was able fix it using this procedure:
    1. Go to Applications
    2. Go to Adobe Premiere CS6
    3. Right click on the application and click on “Show Package Contents”
    4. Go to Contents –> Plug-ins –> Common
    5. Move the following files to the desktop: ExporterQuicktimeHost.bundle and ImporterQuicktimeHost.bundle
    6. Restart Adobe Premiere CS6 and it will successfully open up
    This no longer fixes it.
I desperately need to get back to work.
Even though I feel Adobe support should be included in a CC subscription, I'm considering purchasing Adobe Bronze support with a max wait time of 4 hours and only alloted phone calls for  $175
    thanks anyway

  • Premiere Pro CC - Hangs on splash screen / slow startup

    Hey everyone,
I recently asked another question about CC, but here's another one that's been annoying me since when I first subscribed.
Premiere Pro, in fact, any CC product I use, takes forever to load on startup. When it loads the splash screen it hangs (with no message) for a few minutes at a time before launching the application. I've checked the process and the software is using a consistent amount of CPU. I can only assume it's stuck in some sort of loop while trying to communicate with the activation server, but that's just guesswork on my part. The problem is exactly the same as this user here demonstrates: http://youtu.be/TeE6FBCzrqI
It's more annoying than anything, but for a subscription product it's rather bothersome. It's downright embarassing if a client comes over... and I wonder if it might be tied to some other compatibility issues I've been having.
I've been using CS6 in the mean time, but have to deliver a session through CC now. If anyone's experienced similar problems I'd really appreciate hearing your solutions. Running Windows 7.
    Thank you!

    Hi Kevin,
Thanks so much for your reply! I've reset the preferences in the past and did so again after your suggestion, but no luck. I even went into the AppData folder to remove the preferences sub-folder altogether. It still hangs and acts as "Not responding" for several minutes before startup.
I wonder if there's any connection between this issue and a second issue I'm having with CC not being able to play ProRes files. http://forums.adobe.com/message/5845690#5845690
In any case, I uninstalled every Adobe Product on my machine, ran the Adobe cleaner successfully, then re-installed Premiere Pro CC. Unfortunately, nothing seems to have changed.

  • Desktop Manager Will not Load. Hangs on splash screen when loading, then crashes

My desktop manager is not loading, and hangs whenever it is attempted to load. I have done a clean uninstall, removed rim registry entries, and did a fresh download and install 3 times with full shut downs between each attempt. I am running Windows 7 service pack 1 with an HP Laptop. It is an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC. Product Number LY080UA. I hope that is enough information, but I will give more if asked and informed how to gather such info.
When I right click on the Desktop Manager Icon, I choose to run as Admin. Once it loads the splash screen shows. After a little bit (4-6 seconds) a small Icon appears in my systems tab at the bottom right of my screen. This stays for a little while and then goes away. After this happens the Splash screen hangs, and get a black border around it. If I click on the Splash screen it grey out and says not responding, prompting windows to ask me if I want to wait for the program or close. If I choose to wait, it will sit there and do nothing. If I close it will prompt windows to "look for an error" but has not yet been able to return an answer.
When I log into safe mode, Desktop Manager loads, but does not work well as only a bare bones set of drivers are enabled. If I turn off all but the non-essential services off using services.msc it will load, but again the services needed for it to run and the services for windows to be fully functional are not on at all.
I have attempted to turn off all but the Desktop manager in the start up, using msconfig, but that does not help either.
I am at my wits end here, and would really like some help with this. It loads up (desktop manager) on my Desktop, but I am unable to log that mammoth box around with me while I travel.
Thank you for your time and efforts, I will be very grateful for any and all help.

I'm having the exact same problem here! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64. Please help! This was posted a month ago.

  • 10.6 -- All Office 2008 apps hang at splash screen. FontCache Tool runaway

Did an upgrade of 10.5 to 10.6. Nearly everything works fine. Can't launch Office 2008. All apps hang at their splash screen; usually at Optimizing Font Menu Performance.
Once an app is opened, in Activity viewer you'll find a process called FontCache Tool using >90% of the CPU (on my Core Duo MBP at least, YMMV). I suppose it's saying a lot about 10.6 that the computer is completely usable with that runaway process. Even after forcing the office app(s) to quit, Font Cache Tool stays running until it's killed manually.
I have yet to find out if FontCache Tool is an Apple or MS process. I think it's microsoft.
    This happens under multiple users.
    This happens after reinstalling Office.
This was an Office 2008 upgrade from Office 2004.
After reinstall, and installing Rosetta, office 2004 will run, but office 2008 will not.
    Office 2008 is 12.2.1.
I am running FontAgent Pro for font management, and so font book sees certain activated fonts as duplicates. (Validate fonts shows duplicate warnings but no errors). FontAgent Pro 4.0.3 is listed as Snow Leopard compatible. So is Office 2008.
I have yet to do a clean SL install, which I'm guessing will fix it, but I'm curious if there is a sub-sledgehammer approach, or if I am the only person with this issue.
Other probably irrelevant facts include that the computer is bound to both Active Directory and OS X OpenDirectory servers. Open Directory is running on Leopard 10.5 Server. It does have some managed preferences, including those for Office (e.g. to set default to .doc rather than .docx) but the situation persists even after removing those managed preferences.
Normally really specific problems are easy to isolate and solve, but I'm at a loss.
    Any help appreciated
    keppie

Hey i think i figured it out.
Had the same prob. 10.6 12.2.1 entourage hanging.
Renamed FCT, instantly prompted that a font was corrupt. Removed the corrupt Font: KufiStandardGK.ttf << this just happened to be my one corrupt font.
A little troubleshooting i did leading up to this, I read your post and my situation was the same. I use Linotype X to manage fonts. I disabled all but the minimum fonts (i moved them into a folder font_trouble in the same folder)
I also deleted every office pref/plist setting i thought relevant to startup which triggered the microsoft setup assistant (watched via the console app) and it ran through its check and then immediately the fontcachetool started and went awol on cpu time. Once i killed it--during the starting up of word and entourage... timing may be unrelated but i did them at nearly the same time.
Ps. Your post was extremely well written and I apologize for my stream of consciousness, less than stelllar response... hope this helps if not feel free to ping me for more details on what I did...
Good Luck.. All my office apps are running normally now.

  • CS5 Premiere, After Effects, and Encore hang on splash screen - Solution

I just installed Production Premium CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit system. The install went without a hitch, but when I attempted to start Premiere, After Effects or Encore, they would all hang at some place with the splash screen showing. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Adobe and they never solved the problem. They had me uninstall iTunes and Quicktime, upgrade my nVidea driver and upgrade to a newer version of Quicktime. None of this made a difference and at that point I realized they were not going to fix my problem. The first woman was an idiot and the guy I spoke to next was a lot better, but no solution. Premiere was hanging when loading the Quicktime plug-ins.
Then I had an Aha! moment. I shut off User Account Control, rebooted and then everything worked. I could also get the programs to work with UAC on if I changed the shortcut to "Run as Administrator" but then there would be a UAC prompt. By the way, I was running as a user with full administrator privileges.
I am astounded that Adobe has never encountered this problem before and did not have an immediate solution. Once again, Adobe Tech Support has continued to provide pathetic tech support.
    Steve

The plug-ins that were involved in the hang on the splash screen were:
    ExporterQuickTimeHost.prm
    ImporterQuickTime.prm
The splash screen would hang for 5 minutes on each of these and then if PPro started it would only be a plain white window with the Menu Bar and then there would be no further response.

  • AMT hangs at splash screen

    Hi CRM Mobile Experts,
I have a workstation installed with MSA and MSV. The same workstation also serves as the development workstation where the Mobile Application Studio and AMT is installed. The problem that i am having now is the access to AMT.
The very first time when i installed AMT without MAS, i was able to access the AMT with my userID and password and i also can see all the predefined roles.
Then, i uninstall AMT and proceed to install MAS with the AMT again and then point to the Mobile Repository Server accordingly. Now that after the installation of MAS (Mobile Application Studio), i am unable to load the AMT. When i clicked on the shortcut of the AMT application, it just hangs on the SAP splash screen.
I have the following configuration in my registry:
    security --> AMTARS
    dns: ars_db
    Owner: dbo
    user: arsadmin
    password: <blank>
Did i missed anything in my setup? Please advice why i am unable to load the AMT. I have also applied SAP Note 65916 and 657434.
    Please help!

    Hi Rohit,
It is pointing to an active server. I ran a data source check and here's the results:
Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver Version 06.01.7600
    Running connectivity tests...
    Attempting connection
    Connection established
    Verifying option settings
    Disconnecting from server
    TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY!
I'm still wondering why it's not loading the AMT!

  • Win XP Hangs after Splash Screen (PointSec Loaded)

I have a lenovo t400 laptop, that has Pointsec encryption (6.1.3) ,and WinXP loaded on it.
I ran the Think Vantage Lenovo update tool which downloaded and installed a number of updates - as I hadn't run it for ages.
Now when I try to start the computer it hangs after the XP splash screen is displayed. The screen simply goes black.
I have tried the various Safe Mode options (include VGA Mode, and start with last successful configuration) without luck. They also fail to boot.
    The flow is:
Power On, PointSec Authentication Screen, Win XP Splash screen, then a black screen
I have successfully got into the system using UBCD4Win with the pointsec plugin loaded, this loads a WinPE type environment via a USB stick and allows me to access the C: drive unencrypted (as I have authenticated with Pointsec).
I'm really stuck for ideas as to which of the update is causing the problem, and would love to hear some suggestions on how to fix this situation.
    Additional Info:
The last few lines in ntbtlog.txt is:
Did not load driver Direct Parallel
Did not load driver SM bios service
Did not load driver SM bus service
    Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\Cdfs.SYS
    Looking in:
    c:\Windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$
it looks like Service Pack 3 has been installed:
    The file: spuninst\spuninst,inf shows:
    NtServicePackVersionText = "Service Pack 3"
    NtServicePackPreviousVersionText = "Service Pack 2"
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Fixed!!!
The problem was the lenovo updates (most likely culprit being the video driver I presume).
Using UBCD4Win with the pointsec plugin I was able to
    * get  access to the decrypted c: drive
    * Manually rolled back the updates to c:\windows\system32 and c:\windows\system32\drivers
Original files were found in places like: c:\windows\system32\reinstallbackups\008\DriverFiles
    * Finally I had to roll back the registry updates that the updates did. UBCD4Win provides a tool to do this:  Registry Restore Wizard. It basically just looks in the System Restore Directory c:\System Volume Information and lists all the available Restore Points (thankfully the Lenovo updates mark a restore point before they run). You can also do this manually using the following instructions:
    http://hypography.com/forums/tutorials-and-how-tos/17193-xp-recovery-instructions-for-ubcd4win.html
This done the system booted successfully.
I most definitely will be staying clear of pressing the big blue button from now on. That was a real nightmare to fix.

  • Windows 7 Imag hangs at splash screen

I'm having an issue getting an image to complete successfully on a HP 635 laptop.
The image I'm using was created on a VM and it's used on other laptop/desktops successfully.
The process works find until the laptop reboots and the windows splash screen comes up. And at that point it does not proceed any further.  Shift F10 does not switch me to the command prompt so I can't check log files or make any registry changes that
might correct the problem.  If I power off the unit and go into command prompt safe mode I see that it load drivers until it gets to afcmx64.sys then stops.  I have tried renaming this file suspecting that there maybe an issue with it but the boot
up doesn't work as it complains that the file is missing.   I can however, install windows 7 from a CD without issue.
I have checked this form and searched the internet but have not found a match for my issue. If anyone has gone through this and has a fix for it I would appreciate you help.
    thanks
    Kris Da San Martino

    Hi Kris,
I assume you are using the latest version of MDT 2013 and Windows ADK 8.1 update1.
WinPE 4.0 and 5.0 can cause the Windows Splash screen to hang, due to outdated hardware support. If available, perform a BIOS update and try to run the deployment again.
Another viable option, could be driver selection and targeting. Please make sure that your laptop only receives the drivers that are intended for this particular model, and make sure no VMware or Hyper-V drivers are targeted to the machine. (this can also
    be seen in the bdd.log).
Deployments are especially susceptible to storage drivers, the numerous times I've seen the "iaStore.sys" error on the MDT forums is out of proportion, all due to bad driver management.
If you need so guidelines on driver management, please check this site: MDT 2013 Lite Touch Driver Management
    Cheers!

  • ZFD agent hangs after splash screen

    I've got a maddening problem with the latest IR4 Hp1 agent. I had a
thread going on about uninstalling/reinstalling in this forum.
I have a classic example on my bench. I have 3 identical machines. I
had just "fixed" the agent by uninstalling/reinstalling. 2 of them are
now broken again. What happens is you see the splash screen, and the
zen icon in the tray has the "off line" appearance. You can't get a
menu by right clicking. Applications don't appear, nor do start menu
entries, nor does Application Explorer. Running Naldiag will cause it
    to hang in the background.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the agent fixes this, however it will
happen again. I also deleted the workstation objects in the tree just
in case and let them reregister with the new agent.
Any suggested trouble shooting tactics to try?

Have you tried back-revving the agent to see if this is a
    version specific problem?

  • Install Windows 8 from Recovery disc in virtualbox hangs on splash screen

    Hello Lenovo Community,
when I try to install the Windows 8 copy I got with my Lenovo S440 in a virtual box environment
the installation procedure hangs on the windows splash screen. I never saw a Windows 8 installation
procedure before, so I booted my laptop from the installation media to check if it is corrupted.
This works fine. A loading dot circle is displayed under the logo after a few seconds and than after quiet
a while the lenovo wizard is shown... so it has to be an issue with the virtual box.
I attached a screenshot to show you where it hangs.
It'd be great to get some help ! Thanks in advance!
