Good day, everyone!
Ok, so I am about to buy a Mac Book Pro. My main interest is
to seriously lerarn Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Fireworks. I'll buy
the new CS3.
This being said, could you give some advice on whether I
REALLY NEED 1GB or 2GB of RAM?
I will be starting and learning, but want to go totally pro
and serious.

If you are serious, get as much RAM as you can afford. I
haven't done
much testing of CS3 on a Mac, but I'm using 4GB of RAM on
Windows Vista,
and get much better performance than with 2GB of RAM on
Windows XP.

Can someone share with me the technical way to do calculation of how much of RAM needed for a new Linux box with estimation of 500 users. I hope this calculation can also allow me to breakdown how much MEMORY needed for each session.

Hey guys, just purchased my Mac Pro about a week ago and I was looking to upgrade my ram. I ordered a 2 gig stick and it arrived yesterday but it won't install. I remember reading ram needed to be installed in pairs but I wasn't sure how true that was. Can anyone shed some light on this?

As long as it meets the minimum technical specifications, although the more above the minimum you have, the better the experience.

Sound Dropping Out in Monitors and Timeline (R3D and .wav files in 5.5) - More RAM Needed?

Hi there,
I have an HP desktop that I’ve edited two feature films on, the first shot on the HVX200 (edited with CS4) and the second shot on the Canon 5D (edited with CS5). About to edit a new feature, shot at 4K on the Red Scarlet, using CS5.5.
I THINK I know what needs to happen here, but basically, at anything higher than 1/8 resolution, the footage is playing back slow, and then, when I synch up with my .wav sound files, the sound is dropping out after a second (unless I scale to frame in the timeline only, in which case the render bar goes from red to yellow and the sound remains, even if the picture is still choppy). Basically married image and sound will not play back properly unrendered.
So, I guess what I’m asking is: does this sound like a RAM issue? Should I go for 16? I currently have 8. There’s a lot going on on this computer. (Specs are below.)
One final question, albeit a more minor one: why does the frame Fit properly in the Source Monitor but need a Scale to Fit instruction every time to fill the Project Monitor? Is there a way to make an entire Sequence Scale to Fit permanently?

There is still not enough ram in the listed PC, and the 530 is a poor choice. Nvidia list the memory type as DDR3, where you want a card with DDR5. You can get a suitable system for close to the price that is listed. You want to look at Harms hardware guide, and likely shop a custom builder.

CoreI7 or high end I5
Minimum 12 gb memory for HD editing
Minimum 2 physical drives (system & media)
gtx card with at least 1gb ddr5 memory.( I would shop for more memory for 4K footage ) The more CUDA core, the better.
I spent a little more than you or I really wanted to spend on my CS5.5 box $1400 However it works brilliantly.

2x 74GB 10K raptor drives raid0 system drives
2TB media drive
GTX 560Ti 1GB with 384 CUDA cores.
You could shave this system down to under $1k for something that works great.
The GTX555 seems like the base level card to me. A GT or lower spec card might be a gamble.
Look at gamer machine builders rather than prebuilt desktops. They let you choose parts. That is where to start shopping.

More RAM needed?

Hi there, I have an iMac (May 2009) with 2.66 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB 1067 MHz, DD3.
latterly the nefarious spinning wheel is appearing more and more often and I get Pageouts and swaps shortly after rebooting.
At the moment swap 1.6Gb/2Gb
Page outs 1.5M
I use a program that may use up to 1GB of ram, then I have Firefox and Thunderbird (big resource suckers) and Office for Mac (Word and/or Excel).
The performance of my computer seem to have been deteriorating in the last few months (still well usable, mind you), I wonder if it is the usage I make of it or there is something wrong with it (still under warranty).
If I need to expand the memory, can you give me some advice?

Besides, what memory size would you recommend? I wouldn't want to have an over spec machine with 8 Gb (OK, I know you can never have too much memory, but it doesn't come for free...).

Discussed to death...in short you can't.
You'll need to export to IDML, open in CS4 and export that to INX.
By the time you're done there's a reasonable chance that your layout will be unrecognizable.

Hi, I recently inherited a dual 2.0 ghz Powermac G5. The computer is in fantastic condition, to be honest it looks new, however, I decided that I want to do some upgrades like the ram, OS and probably add a hard drive. I recently read somewhere that Powermacs need to have ram memories installed in pairs, is this true? I would really like to know before making any purchases to avoid any problems.

If i start AFX it says "using 5% of 3GB" - but i got 5GB...the same number appears while i'm previewing my comp.

Trying to load new software, both of which tell me I need 1-2 GB of RAM. Where do I determine how much RAM I have, and can I simply buy and upload additional RAM to this model?

Yes. You buy RAM and physically install it. Depending on the model you may be able to do this yourself with an appropriate screwdriver or pay/get an authorised Apple Technician (or someone else who is capable of doing it) to do it for you. There's no upload involved.

I read a couple of forums dated months ago. This problem needs to be in an update immediately, goddammit:(

If this is the RAM leak that's been mentioned before that happens in CC 2014 when scrubbing the timeline with audio, the fix is in an update that's coming within a month or so. Personally, I would like them to release it only when they're ready so that the update doesn't cause more bugs.
In the meantime, you can work in CC instead of CC 2014 to do any audio scrubbing you need to do. (You can Save As CC, if you need to get a CC 2014 project to be compatible with the previous version.) This bug should not be interfering with any your work as the issue is not present in CC. The previous version of CC is available from the CC app as shown here: Creative Cloud Help | Install, update, or uninstall apps

Adobe Flash CS3 help needed

I need help very badly....

I purchased a flash website template for my local band to try
to elimate the pain of creating one from scratch. I never used
Adobe Flash CS3 before, but figured I could figure out enough
(through reading & forums) to change what I needed to
personalize my site. Well, I have spent countless hours learning,
and changing, and have come up with a pretty sweet website using
this template. I now have only 2 problems left that I can not
figure out no matter what I try.
One of my pages is set up so that fans can listen to and/or
save any of 3 songs that I have recorded in MP3 format. I have
basically 3 columns set up: the 1st column has the song name, the
2nd has speaker icons, and the 3rd column has floppy disk icons. I
want to be able to click the speaker graphic, and play the MP3
song, or click the floppy disk graphic and enable any fan to save
the file. I figure there has to be a fairly simple way to do this,
but I sure can't figure it out, and I'm starting to pull my hair
out. Please help....
Remember, I have just basic Adobe CS3 skills so a description
of what to do has to be fairly easy to understand....

8 Go ram needs 64 bits with SL 10.6.7 ?

I have a 13' MBP Mid 2009 and i upgrade it with 8 Go Ram.
Must i boot with the 64 bits mode to have full advantage of the 8 Go ?

OK...but, if there is no advantage (speed, or performance) for 64 bits mode, why Apple gives that option ? For what use ?
I believe 32 bits mode can't adress more than 4 Go. Normally, MacOS 64 bits must run fastly with 8 Go ? Probably i miss something...
Several reasons.
The 32-bit kernel man manage up to around 32GB of physical RAM, then it needs more address space for all the tables it needs to keep track of things.
At the current rate memory is doubling, high end Mac Pros will soon be unable to boot a 32-bit kernel, and in a few years laptops will start to have the option for huge amounts of memory.
While the 32-bit and 64-bit Mac OS X kernels can run BOTH 32-bit and 64-bit applications concurrently, the device drivers MUST be built to work with the bit size of the running kernel. Snow Leopard gives 3rd party developers a chance to develope and debug their drivers and get customers to field them long before Apple goes 100% 64-bit kernel.
Go look at Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> Kind to see the mix of applications currently being run on your Mac.

CS3 plugins needed: worldready and conditional text plugins to open files

I have CS3 Creative Suite and I created a digital portfolio that will not open on my new computer because it says a worldready plugin and conditional text plugins are needed. I called the adobe hotline but they said since it's CS3 they do not have support for my issue and that I would need to update to CS5. If someone could please direct me in the right direction it would be extremely appreciated.

You are trying to open a file saved in a more recent version of InDesign. If it was only those two plugins listed it's a CS4 file. The file will need to be opened in the correct version and exported back to .inx through CS4 (CS5 files need to be exported to .idml before they can be opened in CS4). Unsupported features will be lost and text may reflow du to differnces inthe text engins from version to version.
